Compared to the climb down the cliff survival tactics were almost (but not quite) a relief even if it was mostly a case of repeating some actions over and over, sometimes Mo’rya wondered if his teacher would ever be satisfied. Probably never on the first go, not unless there was some kind of bizarre miracle anyway.
Epifayrmuth was enjoying his part of the lesson somewhat more, gliding practice was fun, if intense, and every time his wing membranes filled with air the bronze felt a sense of rightness to it all. This was how dragons were supposed to move around! His pleasure in his ability to glide, and his confidence in himself certainly worked to the young bronze’s advantage in this exercise though he still had to concentrate to make sure he only sent the images he was supposed to. He was going to get it right, he was determined.
At any other time the bronzepair might have observed more of the reactions of the other pairs to the announcement that they’d be making their first glide together, but since M’ta had given them only one minute it had to be said that Mo’rya and Epifayrmuth concentrated solely on getting their equipment on right first time. After they were sorted out there seemed to be very little point in looking around, especially since there was an inspection coming up, at his dragon’s suggestion Mo’rya moved to double check every buckle, which was more than enough to keep him occupied until M’ta got around to inspecting their straps.
Once that final ordeal was over Mo’rya laid on hand against his dragon’s neck. Are you ready for this? he asked the bronze, who turned to nuzzle his bonded affectionately. I would be more ready if you were properly in place. The dragon replied calmly, his eyes whirling brighter in response to Lketh’s obvious pleasure. Climb up, strap in and let’s go. I have a great deal to live up to since everyone’s been doing so well.[/color]
Mo’rya shook his head, amused by Epifayrmuth’s comments but he did as the bronze wanted, eagerly even. Odd that he wasn’t afraid of flying, but maybe it was just that he had no experience of the hazards of flying and he knew he could trust Epifayrmuth. Of course they’re doing well, dragons are supposed to fly! Besides we could use that, I’m sure Er’ani will point out it proves Behruth’s a good teacher for you even if he can’t do other things. The boy commented as he settled in place. Epifayrmuth expressed agreement with emotion rather than words, a sense of yesness that spoke louder than a simple word.
