"Ah, but do you see the men eating from the same plate that a woman has eaten from?" Rosanna purred, deftly snatching of piece of the bread back from him to eat herself, it was her food after all and just because he grabs something doesn't mean she isn't going to at least grab some of it back. Munching on her own piece of bread, Rosanna handed Cotton another piece of meat, the green having devoured the first rather quickly for all her precision in eating it slowly, carefully and with obvious manners for a mandyr, even licking the juices from her maw and paws before accepting the next piece.
"He could do more than you know." Rosa muttered darkly, glancing at Armind to see him scooting away a bit, before she snorted at his observation of both their genders. "Of course she's female, what did you expect!? A he-she?" Rosanna growled at the lofty tone Armind took up, glaring at him briefly before deciding, that no it wasn't worth her time to start a petty little fight over something like that. Sniffing, the teen turned her attention back to the green mandyr, looking her over.
Well... she thought to herself, Now that I'm stuck with her I might as well make good use of her. Cotton peered up at Rosanna curiously as the trail of thoughts made their way across the mind of the little mandyr, but she simply made a questioning sound before going back to the meat before her. The little green was obviously small enough to hide herself well, so if Rosanna could just convince the mandyr to help her out... Well, the green would probably do as she asked, but it was almost like she was too well behaved to do anything wrong.
Double-edged sword. Rosanna mused, a smile quirking her lips as Cotton finished off the meat, her stomach bulging slightly and licked the juices from her hide once more, She's well behaved enough not to ruin something, but she may not like what's going on...

Terilyn nodded, not too worried. It was hard to be with all the interesting salamandyrs hatching, talking, moving around. Her eyes kept going back to them. She liked Darmori, too. In fact, she would not have been worried at all had she not felt the familiar presence of her father not too far away, and he was worried. But not upset. She just wanted to reassure him, really, but she couldn't do that if she didn't know where he was. Trusting Darmori, she wrapped her small arms as far around his waist as she could when he lifted her.
That was when a small creature landed on her head. (But Terilyn, though three, knew he had not chosen her even if she could not properly see him. The mandyr felt like he came from another person.) Hi likkle blue friend! she told him cheerfully. You are Passion? I am Bug. Does Passion know where Maman is? And she thought of how her father looked, so Passion could find him.
Teri's eyes went to Z'ves, resting on him a little uncertainly. She remembered that he was the scary one. (It was more complex than that, but she was three, and details escaped her.) But he did not feel bad right now. Or good, either. Really he felt like nothing. He wasn't lying, though. She could always tell when they were lying. Z'ves could find her father better than someone who didn't know Maman. So Teri reached out and took his hand, managing a tremulous smile for him. "Pease? Jus' wanted to see the babies. 'Rut said I could. But Maman is woowied. 'Rut tinks a likkle like PMS would be nice. Do you have a mandyr likkle?"
Armind glared at her. Grabby hands! He'd been eating that. Only, after she said what she was going to say, Armind actually wasn't so sure he really wanted to eat the bread anymore. Even if Rosanna probably was lying to him. A compromise, then. One more bite would not cootify him past redemption. (Hopefully.) So he wrinkled up his nose and took another bite of the bread defiantly...before setting it down beside him where she couldn't see it when he thought she wasn't looking.
Leaning back on his palms, Armind began kicking his legs slowly. "You're stupid. She picked you because she's a girl and you're a girl. Never said nothing about any he-she." The twelve-turn-old stuck his tongue out at the dramatic - and not terribly bright - Rosanna. She could be bright at other times but she so wasn't being bright today. Maybe it was that monthly curse thing his aunt used to mention. Armind wasn't sure what the curse was, his aunt never really would say, just that women got crazy at that time. Very crazy.
"He's far away. See. Can't hear you." Armind pointed at Z'ves, obviously not at all afraid of the man like Rosanna was. Then he squinted. "Hey. Does pinky have a baby? I don't remember him having a baby?" The question was born of curiosity rather than concern. The youngest of the candidates had never found any particular reason to be more wary of the bluerider than any of the other Wastelanders.

Imp snorted softly again, this time at the unmoving blue from the apple pie egg, if he didn’t want to find his and get some food then Imp couldn’t help him. The exploding candy apple egg was certainly enough to catch the bronze’s eye, what manner of baby made flashes of light like that? Another blue it seemed but at least this one had the right idea as he climbed up the side of the basket right away. Apparently the Banana pudding blue had decided to follow too. The other would soon get the message, Imp thought, when he saw his brothers getting food.
Imp chirped a greeting to a newly hatched green, another beautiful greenchild, however she seemed more interested in the violently rocking caramel egg than leaving the nest. Of course the bronze inside that egg took that very moment to stick a leg out and send his sister scuttling backwards. The hissing egg worried Imp slightly, was that baby in a temper tantrum already, or just going to be permanently grumpy? Ah his greenchild had found hers. Good. Another egg caught the bronze’s attention and he scuttled across to give the jellybean egg a tap. Time come out baby. he called.

Casiloy was freaking out, and in turn, that made Kaius freak out. Of course Kai’s freakout was much more suppressed. He only stared at the blonde boy incredulously. This kid was a freak! “ How old are you?” He said with some sarcasm dripping off his words. He was acting like a five year old, and Kaius was rapidly becomes more and more put off by Cas’ reactions.
The hatching was the furthest thing from Kai’s mind at the moment. The screeching, creeling and hissing of the mandyrs punctuated the background, but Kai couldn’t tear his gave away from the hot mess that was Cas. “ I…I…” He honestly didn’t know what to say to that and was completely confused for a second, until of course Cas got distracted by the rest of the mandyr eggs.
The older boy saw this as an opportunity to slop through the crowd. Of course, slipping for Kaius is a relative term. He was so tall that it was hard for him to hide anywhere. For this, however, he would try. His eyes passed over the basket. There were only a few eggs left. Maybe he should leave. He didn’t want to risk Cas’ attention anymore. He glanced to the door, wondering if he could get out before Casiloy noticed.
_________
Vellani grinned happily up at M’ta as the blue mandyr flew off of her shoulder. So, the little blue thing was useful at all. She resisted the urge to stick her tongue out at the man who obviously thought she was pretty useless. Flashing him another look, she took off into the crowd, making her way through after the blue flash that was Passion.
Of course the mandyr found the girl. She was with someone Vellani didn’t know. The gril regarded Darmori curiously for a second before speaking. “ Excuse me, sir. The kid’s dad is looking for her.” No doubt M’ta would be right behind her, but at least she’d get to say something.

“I'm seven and a half,” Casiloy responded, his voice dripping with sarcasm to match Kaius's. When he looked back, the other candidate had given him the slip. Oh well, Casiloy would be sure to find him later.
Casioly was having a moment. He had these moments sometimes, and always during a not so convenient time. These moments usually consisted of him zoning out, and using his mind to contact a dragon for advice. For some reason though, the dragons didn't respond. Didn't matter to Casiloy though, they were just messing with them.
Pft.
This time, however, Casiloy's 'moment' was just one of pure zoning out and sating his hunger pangs. He had been intently watching the clutch, but then he remembered that he was terribly hungry, and he did have two meatrolls...
Ducking his head to protect his snack from those around him, because he just KNEW that people were going to steal it, he took a big bite. Quickly the first meat roll was reduced to nothing but crumbs. Wasn't food so good? Even the eggs in the clutch were even colored like food.
Maybe he should learn to cook.
Casiloy continued to muse about his culinary skills while twisting his hips, admiring the way his jumper flared out around his legs when he spun. Smiling in amusement, he began to twirl in place, spreading his arms out, forcing those around him to shy away from him in fear of being hit.
Oh wait, the clutch! He had been thinking about food for so long and been enjoying his spinning that he had missed more impressions as well as various mandyr's breaking from their shell! Frowning Casiloy tried to steady himself, but was not able to stop from stumbling forward. He caught himself just as he was about to crash to the ground.
Shaking his head and clearing his vision, he looked at the clutch, forcing himself not to get sidetracked again.
Like that was going to happen.

The Apple Pie blue had seemingly finally decided that enough was enough. It was time for him to pick someone. Rather ironically it was Ghost’s hiss that decided it for him. A gold hmm? That could mean a veritable army of slaves if he played his cards right. Finally hefting himself to his feet he wadded down the table before plopping down again as close to his target as he could possibly get. Without all that much more effort anyway. Extending one overlarge wing the Apple Pie blue gave a soft snort and spoke directly to Mo’rya. Come you. I require food. Quite starving. Then to Ghost he gave a sweet and loving croon. There was his ticket to unlimited slaves. Yes he decided he had chosen quite well.
By this point the Cupcake egg had suddenly grown completely silent and still. But it lasted only a second before a chocolate brown head burst through the top of the shell. The almost skeletal looking creature tilting the appendage as he regarded his audience. Blinking the Cupcake brown proceeded to dismantle the rest of the shell around him before leaping over Harmony and knocking over the Caramel egg. The large egg toppled over under the weight of it’s brown sibling and shattered spilling out not one but two bronzes.
The Caramel bronzes blinked in confusion at the sudden freedom of movement. Intertwined as they were it took them a moment to sort out a mess of tangled identical legs and tails. All the while they proceeded to spat curses back and forth the most popular one being asshat. Thank you very much Shells. Harmony blinked at the metallic doubles for a moment before suddenly shoving her immense bulk between the twins. Enough. Through it all the Cupcake brown watched from his gargoyle like perch on the edge of the basket. Bobbing his head he uttered a sound that sounded bizarrely like human laughter.
At the single word from their dam one Caramel bronze hissed, while the other crooned in apology to his mother and turned to regard the crowd. Flicking out his frill spines one of the bronzes gave a creel and reached out for Kaius, gently brushing the boys mind with a feeling of confusion. Wait? Then in a more sure tone he commanded. Wait! Surely his would not leave without him? His brother gave a hiss of anger and lunged for his sibling. How dare he! He had wanted that one! However Harmony was almost at the end of her patience and with a swiftness one might not think possible due to her large frame she blocked the second Caramel bronze’s path and proceeded to pin him to the basket despite his creels of protest. Not faiiiiiiir!
Back in the basket the last egg was completely still until Imp tapped it. Suddenly the Jellybean egg shattered the small green inside it leaping at her sire with a squeal that sounded far to loud to have come from such a tiny creature. Got him she had!
~~~~
Darmori blinked down at Z’ves and his brow furrowed as the bluerider started to speak. He knew the little girl’s father? Still something about the whole thing bothered him and he kept his grip on Terilyn even when the little girl reached out to take the hand of this man who claimed he knew her. Well….surely she wouldn’t be so talkative with this rider if she didn’t know him. Right? Passion’s sudden appearance had the bronzehandler blinking, but before he could say anything to the blue some girl had addressed him as well. “Yeah I know her dad is looking for her that’s who we are looking for. Do you know him too?” The words trailed off in a sudden noise of displeasure as Teri was suddenly removed from his possession. “Hey!”
~~~~
Z’ves smiled charmingly when Terilyn took his hand. He ignored Darmori completely for the moment. Idiot that the teen was, he was of no consequence. It was his current little objective that had his undivided attention. “Don’t worry Poppet. We’ll find your daddy.” At that moment Darmori had become distracted by Vellani and it was an almost too easy to quickly ease Terilyn up and out of the handler’s arms. Especially with the three turn old leaning over to take his hand.
Quickly swinging her onto his hip the bluerider gave a glare to Darmori while speaking still to M’ta’s daughter. “A mandyr little you say? Sure I have one. He’s back at home. Would you like to meet him? His name is Lance. I bet he‘d just love you.” With that Z’ves took a step back from the table, mostly because the bronzehander looked much like he was considering pouncing him. Darmori might have too. If not for the fact that the bluerider had Terilyn held so close. What nobody else in the crowd seemed to notice though was that the Banana Pudding blue was watching this all with rapt attention, his frill spines slowly extending as he scampered across the table.

Apple Pie Blue Name: Age: Hatchling Born: June 3016 Color: Base 1B3F8B Stripes 9370DB Species: Mandyr Looks to: Mo’rya
Physical Appearance:
This male is on the larger size of the blue size spectrum. Not nearly as large as even a small brown but large enough to outsize most normal blues. Although in length he certainly isn’t impressive in girth he is. He’s downright tubby. In fact calling him fat wouldn’t be a gross overstatement at all. Every part of him is large and thick covered by a layer of fat. His bonded may want to try and get him to exercise a bit to lower his weight. He’ll never be what you would call skinny though. Nope in fact he’ll always be pleasantly plump. He sports overlarge wings that seem to hold no function other than to soak up sun when he’s lazing about. Oh they might work if he ever had to use them but why should he have to use them? Should he ever be tossed off a ledge or treetop however his can take comfort in the fact that the huge wings this blue inherited from his mother can, at the very least, be used as a parachute. Behind his head he sports the same thick spines his siblings do. However he seems to be given the gift of a membrane spanning the tines. However the membrane is only present to about halfway up each tine giving him a half frill.
His hide is a bright and shiny royal blue that darkens from his head to his rump where the color almost appears black. His frill and wing membranes are completely a soft lavender color and speckles of the same shade are dispersed in various clumps all over his body. His tail is rather short actually and thick bearing lavender rings from base to tip like the rest of his siblings. Overall if he isn’t exactly ideal in body tone at least his coloration is interesting?
Personality:
This blue is extremely lazy. He doesn’t seem to want to move much at all. In fact he’d probably make a good paper weight. Wherever he is set he doesn’t move much more than a few feet in either direction. He has an obsession with being with his at almost all times though. Otherwise how is he supposed to get fed? Or oiled? Or loved adequately? For all his laziness though he is extremely intelligent. Capable of near full grammatically correct sentences and solving most simple puzzles. He’s actually quite good for conversation if you can keep him awake enough to converse. He’s adept at getting other creatures to do his bidding for him. Firelizards, other mandyrs, humans, even small children. All he will attempt to manipulate to get him this or that. He does however have an obsession with keeping things in even numbers. His food must have an even number of pieces. He must consume an even amount of whatever is provided. He must have an even number of slaves and talk to an even number of people throughout the day. If for whatever reason something ends up at an odd number he is prone to fits until it is fixed. His fits often include trying to bite whatever offender brought on the odd number and afterwards explaining exactly what they did wrong and how he wants it fixed. Let me tell you for a fat thing he can move pretty quick when he wants to!
This blue doesn’t much mind others. They are all possible slaves or opportunities. Whether they be human, flit, mandyr, dragon, or wher they all have their own possibilities. So who is he to judge? Let there be no mistake he isn’t immobile by any means. He just doesn’t see the point in putting in effort when someone else can do it for him. He’ll hitch rides as frequently as possible, often just hanging on his in some way shape or form. He will occasionally get the urge for company rather than sleep and then he is rather prone to choosing humans or dragons to converse with. Most other mandyrs simply do not match his intelligence level. In matters of mating he is solely uninterested. More because he is lazy than anything else. Females are just not worth the effort on his part. If they want to run to him fine. But don’t expect him to chase.
~~~~
Caramel Bronze Name: Age: Hatchling Born: June 3016 Color: Base 808000 Stripes EEC900 Species: Mandyr Looks to: Kaius
Physical Appearance:
Nose to tail tip, color pattern for color pattern this bronze is identical to his egg twin and it will be near impossible to tell them apart based on looks alone. Small for a bronze he will end up somewhere about the size of your average large brown. He’s not an overly muscular bronze either. No in fact he has a rather lean frame, but don’t that that fool you the wiry muscle he sports can be clearly seen. He’ll be rather strong despite his appearance and easily be able to match stamina with even some of the bigger bronzes of his species when he chooses to try. His wings are of a decent length and width. They will never be able to support extended flight but for short bursts and gliding they are more than enough. His tail is about average in length and very strong. He will be fond of using it much like an extra appendage to ease in climbing or to grab things. Behind his head the bronze sports the same sharp tipped spines his dam is known for.
Far from the brilliant orange or copper bronze shades some bronzes are born with his male is green bronze. The shade having quite a few greenish undertones. In fact the metallic sheen present on his hide in the sun also bears that same greenish cast to it. Accenting the green bronze are veins of gold elegantly painted along his back and swirling around both eyes. The tips of all four feet are the same glimmering gold as are the bands that fall in rings down his tail. Very much making him look like he has adored the appendage with rings of various sizes.
Personality:
When it comes to personality this is where he and his brother differ widely. Extremely intelligent this male has a vocabulary on par with most queens. While his grammar will never be perfect he nonetheless speaks with poise. He speaks only when he deems it important and is never loud or obnoxious. No he’s most often quietly contemplative. He carries himself with a regal grace. He knows he’s bronze and obviously doesn’t feel the need to flaunt it. In fact he is quite pleasant to nearly everyone he meets. There is something of a commanding air to him but he isn’t overbearing about it. Instead he’s quite polite and gives requests that most seem perfectly happy to comply with. After all he asked nicely didn’t he? He’s very loving to his bonded, and any family his bonded might acquire also neatly fall under his ‘protection.’ He’s not the type to walk over anyone. In fact he’s more liable to try and help someone out rather than push them back in the dirt. He seeks to endear himself to the mandyr population. To gain loyal subjects. His goal is obviously to become their king. To be worshiped and loved as is his apparent birthright. Brother be damned.
Firelizards are outright ignored as creatures of low intelligence that are obviously on a level below mandyrs like himself. He doesn’t hassle them but nor does he acknowledge their existence in anyway shape or form. They are like shadows to him and that is all. To other mandyrs he is polite and friendly. Perfectly willing to listen to their problems and perhaps make things a bit better for them if it is within his power. Helping them ensures that in the future the bronze can call upon them to do his work. It’s all in careful planning and preparation. The only mandyr that seems exempt from his good graces is his brother. From birth the twosome have been at each others throats. Despite his good manners his brother can easily throw this bronze into spectacular rages and it will be very common to see the two bickering back and forth with the occasional escalation into violence. Despite this the twins will never seek to actually kill each other. Although the threat will most certainly be made. Perhaps it is good for the mandyr population that the two seem to thwart each other at every turn. In matters of mating this bronze will chase the occasional green but will by no means be faithful to her. No he needs a queen for true kingship. Should he ever catch one he will most definitely seek to mate for life. All he needs to rule his kingdom properly is a golden one at his side.
He'd been delayed. Though he had, in fact, seen his daughter briefly when Darmori stood up, she quickly vanished from sight again. Far too many tall people and him far too short. Or just a bad angle. Whatever the reason, it didn't matter. Vellani was proving useful after all, if only in clearing a path for him. At least until a retreating boy practically ran him over.
M'ta growled softly in his throat and jabbed his elbow into Kaius' side without remorse. "Get out of the way, you monstrous dimglow. I'm not so short as to be completely invisible." And as if the brownrider wasn't grumpy enough...he thought he caught a glimpse of someone ahead who he very much didn't want to see. Forgetting the kid, he pushed ahead, finally applying his shoulder to the press of bodies in a bruising push toward one of the tables near the hatching eggs.
Terilyn smiled in relief at Z'ves' words, her misgivings fading. But Darmori wasn't the only one who Vellani managed to distract. The child wrinkled her nose at the girl at being called 'the kid', but then her eyes went eagerly to the space behind Vellani. The still empty space behind her. The child's face fell...and then she squeaked in surprise at suddenly being pulled through the air.
The little girl naturally clung to the man now holding her, blinking up at him. Well, he'd said he'd take her to her father. Terilyn rested her cheek against him. "You do? Can I talk to him? Maman says to only talk to some of them. Why's Lance at home?" the girl continued inquisitively, feeling more and more comfortable with the bluerider. That was, until she felt something very bad, the child cringing at the feeling. But it was not coming from Z'ves.
Vellani was pushed aside with a singular sort of purpose, into the table and, yes, inadvertently into Darmori as well. But M'ta paid no heed to that; she'd been in his way. The brownrider had his hand on his dirk. Whether it was 'Ruth or his own common sense that kept him from drawing in the middle of the crowded dining hall with other Wasteland riders about was only known to the man himself. Certainly the expression in his slitted, dark eyes made it clear enough that it was a close thing.
"Put. Her. Down." The statement was soft, and more dangerous for all its quietness. In truth, the dirk was a red herring, for it was the other hand that contained the true weapon, hidden by palm and wrist. But he did not want to bathe his daughter in blood lest he had to. He'd protected her from at least that much so far, if nothing else. "You were told not to touch or speak to her."
When the twins poured out of their shell, the candidate cocked his head. He didn't know that mandyrs could be twins. Was that unusual? And then they started to fight, though brawl might be a better word for the two tussling bronzes.
Casiloy refused couldn't help but let out a chuckle of mirth at the site of the fully grown Queen Salamandyr pinning her newly hatched son down in the basket. Good thing she had sense enough to do it to, the little bronze looked like he wanted to rip his twin's throat out.
Its ok little mandyr, Casiloy thought, assuming his communication talent applied to salamandyrs as well, You're mother will let you up once you cool your temper.
Where had the other bronze gone? Casiloy's eyes scanned the crowd, only to have his smile widen as he saw the first bronze twin chasing after no one other than... Kauis. So the candidate had managed to impress a mandyr after all. Well mister goodie good would be horrified to realize that candidates were not supposed to impress Salamandyrs.
Turning back to the clutch just in time to see the newly hatched green tackle her clutch father, squealing with joy. This was certainly one peculiar clutch.
Fortunately for Kaius, it seemed that he had successfully evaded Casiloy. He didn’t hear footsteps behind him or the boy’s flamboyant voice. Sure Cas was a little…a lot strange, but Kai had no idea that he would act like that. He was just confused about it. Wait. That wasn’t because of Cas…wa…
Wait?
What the hell? The boy froze in his tracks. His first thought was that Cas was chasing after him. Why that damn little…
Wait! It was much more insistent this time and Kaius whirled on his heels just in time to see one little bronze mandyr fly at the other. What? Which one? Suddenly, the mother was in the fray, leaping into the battle and knocking the offending hatchling to the basket. Pinning him there. The free bronze, who had readied himself for an assault, rose up and cackled lightly at his brother’s predicament. Funny. Merriment invaded his tone and before his mother could turn and discipline him, he turned and glided off of the table, grabbing onto the back of Vellani’s shirt in the process, using it to anchor himself before scurrying up to her head, peering into her eyes quizzically for a second. Sorry lady.
With that, he raised his head, scanning the room for his. WHY did he have to be so far away? Oh wait. He was coming…good. Nobly, he waited atop the blond girl’s head until Kaius came near enough. Then in a startling display of acrobatics, he leaped from Vellani’s head to Kai’s shoulder. Of course he was a baby and he wasn’t the most steady on his feet and he very nearly fell down behind the tall boy, if it hadn’t been for his claws leaving a long scratch down the candidate’s back, he would have fell.
Kaius issued a hiss of pain, but lowered his head to make it easier for the mandyr, who was creeling pleasantly in his ear, extremely pleased with himself for finding his. Silly mean brother. He crooned, casting a triumphant glance over at the table. Minebrother is so ugly, thinking to take mine. Another low cackle and he scrambled up on Kai’s head, claws getting caught on the candidate’s hair. Not pretty like me. Not king. Once atop the candidate’s head, he sat there, immensely pleased with himself that he had chosen one of the tallest perches in the room in order to better look down on his subjects.
Poor Kaius endured all this, blinking and trying hard not to move his head too much so that the little bronze wouldn’t fall, and he wouldn’t get wounded anymore. The boy laughed, his head bobbing and causing the mandyr to dig his claws into the scalp. “ You think you’re a king? Maybe that should be your name.” The mandyr creeled like that was the best idea in the world and leaned over to look into Kai’s eyes. Yes! King me! Hungry now though. He clambered down to Kai’s shoulder, wrapping his long tail around the candidate’s neck as an anchor. Feed please?
Kaius sighed lightly. It seemed that he was going to be waiting on this hatchling hand and foot. But her couldn’t help but smile. “ Sure.”
__________
Ani nodded at Darmori, turning to point behind her when someone took the girl from the handler. Narrowing her eyes, she uttered an indignant “ Hey!” Before being shoved aside by the weyrlingmaster. She landed against the other teenager she had been talking to a second ago, grabbing onto him so she didn't fall. Righting herself, she blushed strongly when she realized who she had fallen into. " Sorry..." She muttered, her legs feeling like jelly and causing her to fall backwards. Then she thought of M'ta and didn't feel like falling anymore. Whirling around, she faced him. If she had fur, it would be bristling indignantly. She’d offer another hey, but it seemed no one was listening to her.
“ You flitter brained…” It didn’t seem to her to be a bad idea to curse out the weyrlingmaster, but suddenly, there was a great weight on her back and something scuttled up along her shirt, digging sharp little claws into her back. “ HEYOWWWGETOFF” Then it was on her head and the bronze hatchling was looking into her eyes. Sorry lady.
She was confused, but before she could think any more on it, the hatchling was gone, flinging itself towards the tall boy who had been behind her early. Poor Vellani was nearly on the verge of crying. WHY did these mandyrs insist on hurting her so?
It was almost more than a girl could take. Almost. She cast Darmori a sad look. " Why does this happen to me?" She visibly wilted.
__________
K'ian had been watching the hatching with half lidded interest. He wasn't exactly sure why he was here anymore, except to keep order. The bronzerider realized with a sigh that there wouldn't be much order at a mandyr hatching. Not with kids and shells and mandyrs flying every which way. It was best for someone as tall as him just to stay out of the way if they didn't want to get a face full of mandyr. There was something of interest though. Z'ves and a little girl. K'ian watched, his jawline set as the blue rider coaxed the girl off of the boy's shoulders and started walking away with her.
Sighing, he started walking that way, his steps only speeding up when M'ta closed in on them, pulling his dirk. K'ian's hand slipped to his belt, his own blade waiting there invitingly.
" Is there a problem here?"
Shells puffed his chest up huge, mantling his wings regally when the two bronzes hatched. Asshat? he asked the room at large, strutting back and forth across the edge of the table. Asshat sasshat, Harmony shinies big brain-places. Good words yes times. Imp idjet fatface, but Harmony loverlove, perfect shape pretty. Yes yes. Of course, as soon as the Bronzes hit maturity, Shells would feel the need to tear them down and assert his dominance as he attempted to do over Imp, but for now they made a good tool for flattery of Harmony.
Piden left his Bronze strutting and chattering, killing two birds with one stone. Bird #1: if he left Shells behind, no one new would associate the awful pest with him; Bird #2: he had found a maiden who needed rescuing. He'd vaguely watched Vellani's progress - she was screaming almost louder than Shells, after all, and that took skill - but if she was about to cry on Darmori's shoulder, she must be more distraught than she looked. There were plenty more attractive, elligible, and less crazy men to cry on the shoulders of. Take Piden for example.
So he slid in between Darmori and the blond Candidate, wrapping an arm around each of their waists. "What could Darmori possibly be doing to you, lovely? Care to explain, Bronzehandler?" Sure, he'd actively misinterpreted her words, but it seemed like a better entrance to the conversation. Meh, he wasn't worried about it.
--
Ugh, they'd laughed at her. Almost. X'vier had gotten the closest, but she didn't feel like decking him, especially with Saint K'ian around. Well, nothing she could do about it today, and honestly she was a bit distracted. Sunshine, cuddled into the crook of her arm now, turned purpley-blue eyes on the Greenrider, crooning along with the Bronzerider's suggestion. Yes yes, no fainting Beautylove! Baby loooove, my Beta loooove... Lifting her arm to inspect the creature, Elisabeta snapped, "No more singing. Come on, let's plug up your mouth with something and see if it shuts you up." Yes yes love love!
A flush of red coloured Syrene's pale cheeks with embarrassment, fingers forgetting about the spoon they held in favor of twitching in agitation. What did Ae'on's stupid little friend just say? She certainly was not looking at Ae'on's ass. The last thing she would willingly look at without having her eyes pried open and her face stuck right there was at was his ass. What's worse, the false and embarrassing messages were being broadcast to everybody. This realization only served to turn the spark of her blush into a wildfire. "Idiot boy," she seethed in address, cold eyes drilling into the Healer as if it would make him keel over and die, "shut your mandyr up before I kill it."
Her meal was all but forgotten now, and with the increasing drama of the room, she would probably never get back to it. The eggs seemed to be hatching at a faster rate now; the sounds of their shells cracking always caught her attention, even for just a moment. Her stare was prolonged when the Caramel Egg broke open. Was that two salamandyrs that came out of one egg? She hadn't even known that was possible.
Ah, it seemed the first hatched blue had decided to go and find his at last. Imp knew he’d get the message eventually. Imp tapped the jellybean egg again as a brown started to destroy the cupcake egg, then he was distracted by the caramel egg. Two? Imp watch the thrashing hatchlings for a moment, yes certainly two bronzes from the single egg. Imp puffed up a little more, although the pair were not models of ideal behaviour at all. The minor annoyance of Shells was ignored, as he had been all along, the younger bronze was just jealous that he didn’t have a mate and babies of his own of course.
Any other thought was pushed aside by surprise as the still jellybean egg suddenly exploded and a green leapt from within with a squeal. The bronze fell back a step then brought his tail around to give his daughter a poke in the ribs. Wasn’t she just adorable?
Oh! Mo’rya blinked as a silver flash from the clutch dazzled him, when his vision cleared he saw that it wasn’t a silver hide that was in that reddish egg, nor was it bronze, but a wonderful silver blue. Well that was one baby he could live without, it looked about as evil as… Evil. The other two blues in the clutch looked so much more friendly. Did being pale make blues grumpy? Unlikely, Lketh was the palest it was possible to be, since he had no colour to his hide at all, and he wasn’t grumpy at all.
The pale, hissing salamandyr vanished among the legs of other people and one of the other two blues climbed out to the edge of the nest, and as if to replace the grumpy blue a yellowish green burst up out of her dark egg. The clutch certainly seemed to be making a lot of noise now, from the large egg, which was hissing, to one the started whistling loudly as the green clambered out of the basket. What would that salamandyr be like? The bronze in the caramel coloured egg was certain to be grumpy.
The first blue to hatch was moving now, maybe he’d finally spotted whoever he wanted, or he was just too hungry to continue his lazing. Come you. I require food. Quite starving. Oh…
Ghost chirped softly and gave her bonded a mental nudge, time to go and get their baby, quickly before it learnt any bad language from that bronze. Mo’rya snorted, anything his pet, whichever one it was, was going to learn was already learnt. Eggshells weren’t all that thick. Still Mo’rya climbed down from his chair and began working his way through the crowd. How he was going to work out which baby to collect he didn’t quite know, he didn’t even know if the gold would let him just come and take one, even it was apparently his.
At last, through some treading on people’s feet Mo’rya reached the front of the crowd and the table. The large blue at the edge stood up and fanned his large wings once. Good. Require food this instant. Quite starving indeed. The creature informed him, and since both parents seemed to be occupied with other hatchlings Mo’rya reached out to scoop his new salamandyr off the table, only to be distracted by a hiss of pure rage from Ghost.
The normally shy gold almost shook with indignation, her red eyes fixed Z’ves. How dare that one hold a baby?! He was one of the baby killers! Make him let go right now! Ghost might not recall exactly what happened at Epifayrmuth’s hatching but those involved were all marked in the queen’s memory as Bad People.
Mo’rya looked at the situation that had so upset Ghost and decided firmly to keep out of it, or at least out of reach. ‘Come on, don’t fight in front of the little girl, wait until she’s in bed.’ Mo’rya was not one hundred percent helpful, but a reasonable voice did seem to at least stop Ghost from getting in the middle of things. Mo’rya took the chance to grab up his salamandyr before the blue’s parents noticed. ‘You’re going to be called Wit.’ He told the blue before he could pick his own name like some of his siblings had done.
Yes it seemed one of the hatchlings was singing to his newly bonded, and it still seemed odd to J’on. From the greenrider’s perspective nothing happened for a while, though he could hear hissing and cracking eggs, and of course the sounds of people who now had salamandyrs whether they were willing or not. A silver marked blue came to the edge of the basket, and went again, in search of someone no doubt, and a second blue climbed up as well, though this one was an indecisive type it seemed.
J’on barely noted the people shuffling out the way of, something, a few of them squeaking. In fact he barely had time to register that something had gotten inside his clothing before he squealed embarrassingly loudly. Mine. the word accompanied the sudden pain as a salamandyr exited his shirt.
‘That hurt you know.’ J’on complained, reaching inside his shirt with one hand to check the damage, his fingertips came away spotted with blood and the greenrider sighed. How was he going to explain this to J’ash? Well, no use in denying the Impression, he was stuck with this blue now, even though he should have been safe back here. J’on offered the blue some food, and got a second bite, this one to the web of skin between thumb and forefinger, for his trouble. Not want that! Fugly asshat. The blue shifted sp his hide flashed silver again as he expressed his ire. Want that. the salamandyr stabbed a claw at some discarded fish on a plate. Stupid slave, must he explain everything?
‘Seriously?’ J’on questioned, but leaned over and stole the fish anyway. ‘I guess I’d better call you Flash.’ The greenrider said as he shredded the fish for his new pet. ‘I can’t name you for a personality trait after all.’
The Cupcake brown watched his mother and errant sibling for a few more minutes before slipping from his gargoyle like pose to leap down onto the table surface. Once there he tsked audibly and tilted his head completely sideways, blinking his eyes as he watched the humans interact. Which one of them did he want now. He needed one yes? With a croon he finally decided and made to scamper across the table, only for his long legs to get tangled up. He faceplanted spectacularly and with a shriek of displeasure started to throw a miniature tantrum as he tried to untangle his legs. Nooooooooooooooo!
Back in the basket Harmony glared down at the remaining Caramel bronze twin. He had finally settled down and had begin to regard her with something resembling apology. It would have to be good enough. Licking him affectionately between the eyes she removed her forepaws from her son, letting him regain his footing and exit the basket. The remaining Caramel bronze frilled his spines defiantly at the newly named King before regarding the rest of the choices with clear disinterest. None of them were right….oh wait. How had he missed her?
With a sudden burst of determination the Caramel bronze scampered across the table and, flinging himself off it, glided to the table his new slavething had claimed pretty much to herself. She had the right idea she did. Hissing at Syrene he snapped. Idiot girl! Attention Slavething! Food. Quick quick. Yes slavething. Feed him. Now. However after his words his tail slipped around the bluerider’s finger giving it a light squeeze, his rainbow eyes regarding her almost affectionately.
The Jellybean green gave a chirp as her father poked her and giving another little squeal she cavorted around him for a moment. Stopping rather suddenly she gave a final look back to her mother and the bronze and clambered over the basket and to the table top. Hungry. Food needed. But first…oh dear what was brother hers up to? Regarding the Cupcake brown with narrowed eyes she crouched and started to slowly stalk in his direction.
~~~
Darmori was about to reply further to Z’ves when he suddenly found himself near tackled by the girl he had just questioned. Steadying her automatically as she collided with him he gave her a confused look especially when the bronze hatchling used her as a temporary springboard. There was so much happening the bronzehandler was becoming a little confused. All he knew for certain was that he wanted Terilyn back. Why he didn’t know but maybe it had something to do with the intense protective and maternal feelings coming from Harmony. Whatever the reason it did not sit well with him that that bluerider had her. Not that he could do anything about it right this second with a near crying girl wailing at him. Oh dear. Oh dear. What should he do? Reaching over Darmori started to pat Vellani on the shoulder, in what he hoped was a reassuring manner. “I don’t know? Maybe you have bad luck?” He was saved from having to figure out what else to do by Piden’s sudden appearance.
Blinking in confusion at the other bronzehandler he stammered. “Wha? I didn’t I didn’t do anything to her.” Did he? He didn’t think he did… As M’ta arrived on the scene and people started putting hands on weapons Darmori gave a soft groan. Just what this hatching needed. Violence. The teen didn’t really completely understand why the Wastelanders were here but he knew things at Selenitas were not as light as they had been at times. It made him more sad than anything else. Native though he was Darmori wasn’t as angry as some although he would profess to disliking most of the Wastelanders. Especially Z’ves at this point.
~~~~
Z’ves smiled again at Terilyn, choosing to ignore most of the others, as he patted her lightly on the top of her head. “Sure I don’t see why you couldn’t talk to him? He’s a blabbermouth. He’s at home because he’s annoying.” He finished just as M’ta burst through the crowd, looking much like an angry mother canine. Look she was even threatening to show her teeth, what with his hand on his dirk and all. She even growled for him. The bluerider gave the short Weyrlingmaster a wide grin as he tightened his grip on the three turn old. “Well hello there Mmtuh!” Oh how amusing this all was. “Hmm was I?” The Wasteland rider tilted his head. “You know….I don’t quite recall that information.” He would have gone on if K’ian hadn’t taken that moment to step up his hand also on his weapon. Really?
Z’ves gave the bronzerider an amused look before looking back towards M’ta. “No problem enforcer.” Running a hand through Terilyn’s hair he smiled at M’ta. “Come now boys can’t we settle this matter civilly? I think I have a few ideas. For…” Just that moment a flash of teal obscured his vision and the bluerider gave a yelp at the flash of pain followed. Instinctively Z’ves’ hands flew up to protect his eyes and strike at the menace that was assaulting him, unfortunately this caused him to drop the three turn old he was holding onto so tightly.
The Banana Pudding blue had narrowly evaded the bluerider’s grab as he finished his strike. Leaping from his perch on Z’ves head he landed on Terilyn’s and frilled out his spines with a surprisingly loud hiss. No touch. Not yoursssss. Mine’sssss. He warned the room at large before carefully leaping off said girl to cling to M’ta’s arm. From there the mandyr regarded the Wasteland bluerider with a narrowed gaze. His.
Caramel Bronze Name: Age: Hatchling Born: June 3016 Color: Base 808000 Stripes EEC900 Species: Mandyr Looks to: Syrene
Physical Appearance:
Nose to tail tip, color pattern for color pattern this bronze is identical to his egg twin and it will be near impossible to tell them apart based on looks alone. Small for a bronze he will end up somewhere about the size of your average large brown. He’s not an overly muscular bronze either. No in fact he was a rather lean frame but don’t that that fool you, the wiry muscle he sports can be clearly seen. He’ll be rather strong despite his appearance and easily be able to match stamina with even some of the bigger bronzes of his species when he chooses to try. His wings are of a decent length and width. They will never be able to support extended flight but for short bursts and gliding they are more than enough. His tail is about average in length and very strong. He will be fond of using it much like an extra appendage to ease in climbing or to grab things. Behind his head the bronze sports the same sharp tipped spines his dam is known for.
Far from the brilliant orange or copper bronze shades some bronzes are born with his male is green bronze. The shade having quite a few greenish undertones. In fact the metallic sheen present on his hide in the sun also bears that same greenish cast to it. Accenting the green bronze are veins of gold elegantly painted along his back and swirling around both eyes. The tips of all four feet are the same glimmering gold as are the bands that fall in rings down his tail very much making him look like her has adored the appendage with rings of various sizes.
Personality:
When it comes to personality this is where he and his brother differ widely. Very intelligent his male will have a quite extensive vocabulary. Grammatically he isn’t he best but then it’s rare for a mandyr to grasp the concept of grammar fully. He makes up for his grammar fails with volume though. He’s extremely loud and a bit obnoxious. This bronze seems to have been born spoiled. He’s prone to throwing ridiculous fits and destroying things when he doesn’t get his way too. He demands things, he does not ask for them, and they had better come promptly too. Completely narcissistic he seems to think that everything in the world was born solely to serve him and his needs. He walks over others without a care to their feelings. And has no trouble with clambering over others to get to the top. You see he thinks he deserves to be the king off all mandyrs. All of his brethren are obviously put here to serve him. Just waiting for their leader to appear and show them the right path. He does love his bonded, but widely broadcasts that he only tolerates them. Shows of affection to his chosen are rare and only done in private. Instead you will often see him scolding or biting them instead. He’s fond of calling his chosen slavething in fact.
To firelizards he is a terror, seeking to cause them trouble at every turn. Even the sight of one can cause him to fly into a fit at times, especially if he is in a bad mood. All other mandyrs besides the golds are treated with thinly veiled contempt and a better then thou attitude. He will often attempt to boss other mandyrs around and any attempts to disobey him are meant with scolding and verbal abuse at best and at worse outright attempts at attack. The only mandyr he will admit to actually hating though is his brother. The twosome are often in fights, mostly verbal. This bronze seeks to constantly undermine his brother and is not above using their similar appearance to try and frame his egg twin for things. He obviously takes sibling rivalry to extremes. In matters of mating he will deign to chase the occasional green but it is a queen that he needs to cement his leadership role. If he ever manages to catch a gold he will be very faithful but she may or may not want to keep him around considering he will also do his best to try and bend her to his will.
Banana Pudding Blue Name: Age: Hatchling Born: June 3016 Color: Base 008080 Stripes AEEEEE Species: Mandyr Looks to: M’ta
Physical Appearance:
This blue mandyr is larger than average. In fact he will measure nose to tail tip about the same size as your average brown mandyr would. In musculature he takes after a brown too. He is by no means your typical light weight blue in build. A large, and maybe just a just a tad wide, frame is packed with decent muscle even his tail is slightly thick. Upon hatching this muscle is padded with a thin layer of fat, not too much but not too little. The male may be the ideal weight now but he is extremely prone to gain weight if not watched very carefully. Especially because he has a great love for food. Something no doubt inherited from his dam. His will have to make sure he is kept decently active to keep the weight to a manageable level. Fortunately this shouldn’t be too hard normally. His wings are large and very strong easily capable of holding him aloft in limited flight. He will never be able to fly like a firelizard but he can surely use his wings well enough. Behind his rather square shaped head are the same bony protrusions his mother and her offspring are known for. His particular spines are a dark black and tapered to wicked points. Thankfully they are mostly kept laid back in a relaxed position. Unless of course they are in use.
If this blue’s build makes you question his true color his hide banishes any notions of him being brown. The base color of his hide is a quite pretty shade of teal. The color seeming to have an almost metallic quality in bright lighting. The color lightens slightly on his wing membranes but other than that it is fairly uniform. Like most mandyrs he sports a couple markings that make him unique. One large splotch of pale turquoise covers his left eye and twin racing stripes of the same shade run down his back to his tail. Like the rest of his siblings his tail also has ‘raccoon’ bands running from the base to the tip in the same pale turquoise color that makes up the stripes lining his back.
Personality:
This male seems to have been born to play. In fact he’s almost puppyish in the way he chooses to act about eighty percent of the time. Go, go, go till he drops. When he is a little thing this might not be much of a problem because he’ll tire quickly, but once he gains age and stamina that will be a different story. The mandyr is incredible loyal. Loyal to his bonded, their family, and any friends he might happen to acquire. He’s also very sweet but don’t let his seemingly completely gentle personality fool you. When his bonded or family is threatened he becomes very aggressive. To the point of biting and even impaling with the spines he was born with. He’s also extremely intelligent and knows just where to strike and with deadly precision too. The eyes are one of his favorite targets. He’s also very verbose and fond of speaking, seemingly for absolutely no good reason other than he can. He’ll acquire a rather extensive vocabulary pretty quickly in fact but his pronunciation and grammar will always remain quite terrible. That’s okay though he doesn’t mind one bit.
He’s quite set in his ways really. To the point where. When this mandyr makes a decision he is impossible to reason with otherwise. Whether it be what he wants to eat or whether or not he likes a person, his mind rarely changes. Not even if you reason with him for nights on end. There is however one thing that his bonded might have a tiny bit of success on occasion bribing him with. Food. He seems to have inherited his mother’s love of food and the only thing he loves possibly as much as playing is eating. To other mandyrs, dragons, whers, and even firelizards he is polite and he is always willing to make a new friend or two. He doesn’t usually pay much attention to non draconics unless they show interest in him first. Humans are regarded with curiosity but unless they mean something to his he isn’t too keen on interacting with them all that much. In manners of running he is normally primarily uninterested. Oh he’ll chase the occasional mandyr or flit but only if he sees her as special enough. Even if he succeeds in catching her however he seems less than interested in anything besides a friendship. Most likely because she’ll cut into his play time.
