Killed in Siege of Selenitas
Humans:
Name: C'lryn
Age: 19 [Born in August]
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Rank: Senior Weyrling (bronze rider)
Physical Appearance:
Light golden brown hair falls in straight layers to this weyrling's chin, bleached in the Southern sun. It’s cut short, a change from his candidacy when it was chin-length; now, it’s got just enough length for someone to run their fingers through it, which he often does, making the hair stand up in tufts and spikes as a result. Depending on the amount of time that he spends outside, his hair will sometimes take on a paler golden sheen, with a few strands here and there bleached nearly to white-blond. No matter the season though, it always gleams and looks silky smooth to the touch, remaining straight as a board always. When it's long, it has a tendency to fall into his eyes, which are hazel in color and framed by thick, if not long lashes. His eyes are long and somewhat narrow, making it difficult for people to see their color until they're close. His eyebrows are a tad on the thick side, though nowhere near enough for him to be considered unattractive because of them.
Build-wise, he's just reached the 6’2 mark. He's broad in the shoulders and just about everywhere else too. There isn't much, if anything, that's 'soft' about his body, which is definitely more on the compact side and not so gangly or scrawny as some other lads his age. His limbs are of an average length, neither long nor short, and his skin is light olive in color, clearly hereditary though it darkens when exposed to sunlight. His features are strong in somewhat long and narrow face, and when he isn't smiling, it can be easy for him to look broody and almost menacing. Despite his overall strong appearance, he moves with a certain fluidity and sureness that can almost be called 'grace'....
Personality:
In spite of whatever one might think of him upon first sight, C'lryn is neither brooding, nor aggressive. In fact, the truth is nearly the opposite of this. Oftentimes C'lryn comes off as a dumb brute who doesn't have much to say about anything. However, upon getting to know him, one finds that C'lryn is not the typical rash youngster. While he certainly has his ideas and goals, he's not usually the type to push them on anyone. In fact, he doesn’t really seem to care whether or not other people like his ideas or observations, and this much is usually made quite clear… if not with words, then certainly with action. This very laid-back young bronze rider uses coercion always as a last resort and only in dire situations. He also has the capacity for great patience, the patience to wait things out until just the right moment before setting things in motion but there are times when even his patience wears a little thin.
He's a rather outgoing individual, but he's has moments where he’d rather be left alone to think or simply to enjoy the company of his dragon or other critters. Whether or not he actively seeks company depends mostly on his mood and the happenings of the day. If asked for help, C'lryn will give it to the best of his ability, whether it be for a drudge or for the Weyrwoman herself. He has his moments of conceit, but what young man doesn't? Every now and again, he'll achieve something he just has to brag about, even though it has caused issues in the past. This part of him, however (the haughty part), believes that he's earned the right to boast of his achievements, and if anyone else doesn't like it, they don't have to listen. It's not very hard to anger him, but his is rarely an apparent anger. C'lryn tends to act on impulse at times, acting immediately upon a stimulus. If this is not possible, however, his more rational mind usually prevails and he rethinks the actions he had been about to commit... usually resulting in him being glad for the opportunity to cool off and think things through.
Like many lads, C'lryn does have a flirtatious side. As a suitor, he's flirty and fun, lots of smiles accompanied by gentle teasing and compliments. He prefers to woo his women, though he won't protest if they choose to 'woo' him instead. He seems to have something against shy people, feeling the need to at least try to draw them out of their shell a little, to put a smile on their faces and maybe even make them laugh. He enjoys making other people laugh, be it on purpose or accidentally. Perhaps one of his best traits is his ability to laugh at himself when he’s done something silly or if he’s somehow just made an ass of himself… something many bronzers’ egos simply won’t allow them to do.
History:
Born at Selenitas, C'lryn has never even been outside the Weyr. The son of a drudge and a bluerider, he had been fostered out almost immediately after his birth. From there, he spent his days in the nursery until he was fostered by a female greenrider. She raised him by herself, having no weyrmate, but she did a fine job, taking in all the considerations. The boy was well-cared for and happy, and in her spare time his mother took him for short rides on her dragon, though they always remained in the skies over the Weyr. It was these thrilling experiences that made C'lryn decide that he wanted to become a dragonrider. Oh, everyone wanted to be one, deep down inside, but this particular lad was more determined to make it happen.
He also had a soft spot for flitters, but it seemed that he was never in the right place at the right time to Impress one; odd, considering they were rather abundant at the Weyr. As a boy, he was very active and had a vivid imagination, always running about claiming he'd seen this and that. He also had a penchant for gathering up the other weyrbrats for imaginative games which the adults assumed he'd heard of from somewhere when in truth he'd made them up himself. While his childhood was as normal as one could hope for, C'lryn grew up, as children are wont to do. As he did, his thoughts turned less to games and imaginary creatures lurking in the shadows of the lower caverns. Instead they turned toward the outer world, curious about it.
The war was not lost on him. It wasn't something he understood, but he knew it was there. And as he became older and learned more of the situation, the more he thought it petty and stupid. Did the Weyrs even know what they were fighting about anymore? How could they afford to waste precious dragons and their riders on something so stupid when they were clearly needed for Thread? But he was merely a lad without understanding of things, or so he was told. Nobody was going to take him seriously. It was something that chafed him greatly; C'lryn wanted to be taken seriously! But he had no idea how to go about earning the respect that he so desired. For once, he was at a loss.
But his thoughts turned to other things still when Fath's last clutch turned out such horrifying dragonets. He had been contemplating standing for a clutch, but when he saw from the stands what had hatched out of Fath's, he was glad that he had decided to wait. While he would never say anything disrespectful to or about any dragon, C'lryn was among the majority who were alarmed by the turnout. Still, like all things, that Hatching passed and everyone moved on. Aslath's Flight caused a stir of excitement within the boy; the queen was young and healthy, she'd been caught by a strong bronze; if ever there was a time to stand for a clutch, this was it.
And so, he became a Candidate for the Precious Stones clutch. Like everything else, he took this in stride; there was no guarantee that he would Impress, after all. He could save his excitement for after the Hatching. It proved to be a wise choice, for there was much to rejoice about when bronze Minoath chose C’lryn to be His. The pair was a perfect match, both friendly and easy-going. Minoath had his quirks, as does every dragon, but C’lryn loved everything about his bronze. However, there was about to be a new love in his life. He got lucky at a random flitter hatching and not only Impressed, but managed to Impress the gold as well. Rather shy and un-queen-like, the little one was promptly dubbed ‘Darling’. The name fit extremely well and it didn’t take her long to prove it. She immediately became very dear to her bonded, second in his affections only to his dragon. Even Minoath found himself growing rather fond of the quiet and somewhat timid little gold. She was truly unique.
It wasn’t long after this that C’lryn found himself attending another Hatching, but this one was very different: it was a salamandyr clutch. The unusual creatures had caught his fancy, and he had really only attended to get a closer look at them. But it seemed that luck was on his side; whether it was good luck or bad, C’lryn has yet to decide. A nearly fluorescent little green attached herself to him… quite literally, by sinking large fangs into his ear and rather effectively piercing it. And it didn’t get any better from there. Bite soon proved to be a nasty creature, with a foul temper and even worse language. Any attempts that C’lryn (or anybody else for that matter) made to gentle the green and teach her some manners not only proved unfruitful, but seemed to have the opposite effect, sending the ‘mandyr into rages, or, at the very least, causing her to simply wander off without the slightest bit of attention to her human thing. Bite was very intelligent for a green, but seemed to use it for vile purposes… like picking up new insults, each one worse than the last. To this day, C’lryn has no idea where Bite picks up her new vocabulary; certainly nothing so vulgar as ‘dunghead’ has ever come out of HIS mouth!
Shortly after Impressing, C’lryn met a fellow weyrling: a greenrider by the name of Rielana. They became fast friends, as Rielana always seemed to be bored and C’lryn was always willing to entertain. But friendship became something more as their dragons matured. When Rielana’s Jeminorth took to the skies the first time, Minoath rose to the challenge. He was chosen by the green and this seemed to be the turning point in the relationship. Right after graduating from weyrlinghood, C’lryn asked Rielana to share a weyr with him. His proposal was accepted rather enthusiastically, and the two began a new life together.
Dragon:
Name: Minoath
Color: Bronze
Age: 2 Turns
Appearance: For a bronze, Minoath is on the large side, though he is built stream-lined and smooth rather than bulky. This longer and leaner build will rob him of the stamina that most bronzes of his size can boast, though it will grant him more agility as well. Indeed, his build seems to promise quick twists and turns that most bronzes can't accomplish, let alone larger ones, though it will take more practice for him to learn these ricks than a brown or blue would. He is built long and lithe, muscular and visibly so, with an elegance to him that will earn him a few glances. No doubt he will always be a handsome bronze, especially since he is not overly muscular as many of his color seem to be. As far as hatchlings go, he is built perfectly proportioned, save for slightly larger eyes than most bronzes possess that he will never outgrow, but as he ages, he will almost seem to outgrow his tail and at adulthood it will be shorter than that of most dragons - noticeably. The bold might tease him for this, though most would add it up to a unique feature for Minoath, something that sets him apart.
Minoath will never, ever be mistaken for anything but what he is: bronze. His hide is rich and dark, an antique color that leans toward copper in places, the more reddish tones blatantly visible. Some bronzes will possess an almost green sheen as they grow, but not Minoath. He will always be a bright and vibrant color, with a nearly golden sheen whenever light dances off his hide just right. His bronze hide varies in intensity, from dark spots on his face to lighter blotches down his sides, blending evenly enough that the entire appearance seems perfectly natural. However, to compliment his larger eyes, he almost seems to possess dark rings around both, drawing attention to them at every turn. Combined with his naturally impressive appearance, Minoath is no doubt a bronze to be remembered.
Personality: Most bronzes seem to possess a natural sense of pride and self-esteem that gives them the appearance of arrogance. Outwardly, Minoath will seem strange for his color in that he is very relaxed, easy going, more likely to lay around and observe than involve himself in much, and teasing likely rolls right off of him. But do not be fooled - he is as much a bronze as any, and the reason that taunts and teasing does not bother him is simply because he is that confident. Why should he let such comments bother him? He is intelligent enough to recognize jokes, and relaxed enough to take them as exactly that. Confidence is not something this bronze lacks in any way, and he will rarely if ever show anger or agitation. In fact, he will seem very quiet for a dragon, as though introspective. No part of him will ever come off as shy or insecure, though. No, he will simply be contained, self-assured and distant from most everyone, at times even His, though he will speak to him far more than most. Even when it comes to roaring and crooning, these sounds will be few and far between. Noises don't interest him very much.
Despite being quiet, Minoath does possess a natural charisma and a smooth eloquence when he chooses to speak, which further emphasizes that he is indeed a bronze. He has a natural aptitude for drawing attention to himself with few words, and he is naturally persuasive. Charm rather than force will win most people over with him, although Minoath is more than capable of being forceful when he needs to. He is a natural-born leader and is good at analyzing situations that most dragons wouldn't care about or pay attention to. He will never be considered an introvert or a dragon likely to philosophize (and really, who wants that?), but Minoath will be good at scoping out situations and making decisions, especially under pressure - mainly because pressure does not affect him at all. But his leadership does seem to have more of a demand to it than some would like; while he is not vicious in his commands, he leaves little in the way for others to argue with. But... considering how charming he can be, it is unlikely most dragons will want to argue with him. Especially seeing as he reasons things out first.
