Killed in Siege of Selenitas
| - Wherling Kaluska - |
Name: Kalushka (Kali, Kalu, Kal)
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Hetero
Rank: Wherling
Month Born: January
Physical Appearance: Kalushka is a lady of short stature. She reaches the rather small height of 5’2”. The girl has a pale look to her, accompanied by a pale skin color. No matter how long she stays in the sun, Kali can not develop a tan. Beneath the pale skin and weak appearance are muscles developed from hard work and tons of running. Scars seem to be sprinkled all over the girl, mostly placed around her arms and hands.
Kalushka is adorned with stark black hair that reaches down to the middle of her back. The hair is straight, and Kalu considers it a boring style. The black strands of color frame pale blue eye the color of a cloudless day. Her eyes are full of life and reveal the strength her body disguises. Kalushka’s eyes can be as sharp as steel or as soft as a cloudless sky. The young woman considers her blue eyes her only good feature. If her eyes were any different color, Kalu would think that she was plain and ugly.
Kalushka has always worn bright vibrant colors with dark accents. The usual attire consists of a pale colored tunic, darker colored trousers, and old worn boots. Her clothing is always slightly larger then her own frame so that Kalu will have the full ability of motion she requires for her daily activities. Sometimes, on special occasions, Kalushka will where a dress or a tunic with a skirt. These are the only times she doesn’t mind showing her feminine side. If the events were different, Kal would come in her usual attire.
Personality: Her appearance says weak, but Kalushka’s spirit says strong. The girl is one born to be stubborn. Kal never backs down from a challenge, which has often gotten her in trouble. Her willingness to act like a boy has often place the girl in the mercy of her strict father, but the punishments can’t tame her wild spirit. Kalushka is a girl who can’t just stop. She needs to keep moving all the time. Being born in the South has given the child a spirit of exploration and freedom, and the Southern landscape has always overruled her father’s rules.
Kalushka is also very determined. Once she sets her mind to finishing something, like one of her precious carvings, Kali can’t be stopped. She feels the need to continue what she starts, whether it is an argument, a project, or simply one of her many runs. Although she can be wild and everywhere at once, Kalushka can also be a caring, gentle and selfless person. She feels the need to help others, to heal them, or just comfort them in times of need. While half of her heart is devoted to wild freedom, the other half belongs to the soul of a healer.
Whenever someone is hurt, Kalushka doesn’t pause in her decision to help. The girl sees herself as a way to help others and erase some of the hurt in the world. When Kalushka thinks about the North, she can’t help but be disgusted. She wants to know why the dragonriders there voluntarily inflict pain on the Northern inhabitants. The one question she has always asked is, ‘Why do the Northern people treat women like slaves?’ So far, no one but her father has ever been able to answer her questions. Only Kallun has ever given his daughter an insight to the life of a Northerner. Because of the things she has heard, Kalushka has come to hate and resent the ways of the North.
History: Kalushka was born into a family with mixed backgrounds. Her mother, Nushka, was born at Blossom Hold. Nushka was trained by a retired female Masterhealer who had come to the South to escape the North. Kalu’s father, Kallun, was born in the North to a Master Woodcrafter. Being one of the rare men who did not agree with Northern ways, Kallun traveled to the Southern Continent after he earned his Mastery as a Woodcrafter. The man came to live in Blossom Hold, and he soon fell in love with Nushka. The two married and quickly found that they were expecting. When Kalushka was born, the new parents teased each other about how she would turn out.
When Kal was six turns old, she cautiously wandered into her father’s workroom. The place was off-limits to the Holdbrat because of sharp tools and many other dangerous items. Despite previous warnings, little Kal explored the room. Picking up one of the carving tools and a chunk of wood, the youngster hacked away on the small chunk. When her father returned a few candle marks later, Kalushka proudly held up a very crude carving of a heart. The little project wasn’t more then a badly shaped lump, but Kali happily handed her toy over to her father. Kallun had become furious with his daughter, but when the child placed the carving in his hand, the man’s heart softened. Although Kalushka was scolded for entering the workroom, her parents still praised her for the little art piece she had created.
Soon after her exploration of her father’s work area, Kalushka became a big sister. A little boy the name of Jaliran had been born. The child grew jealous of her baby brother, and she quickly found another place to be besides her home. Kalushka joined in the activities of the Holdbrat boys and soon became one of the best of the group. The child was naturally athletic and often won the races she entered. As Jaliran grew, Kalushka began to feel more loving towards her brother. He always wanted to play with her, and the younger boy always had something to show his big sister.
At the age of 12, Kalushka had accomplished the art of woodcarving. She had already reached the rank of Senior Apprentice, and she was very proud of it. When she wasn’t helping her brother or father with the many carvings the family sold, Kalu was learning how to heal with the assistance of Nushka. The girl thrived in both of the arts she was learning. She loved to bring the wood to life in her carvings, and Kal enjoyed the pleasure of helping someone in need. When she reached her fifteenth turn, Kalu, along with Jaliran, stumbled across an abandoned fire-lizard clutch. Only two eggs were attempting to Hatch out of a clutch of five. The first to hatch produced a very dark green flit. The small female made an instant beeline towards Kalu while her sibling, a sea blue flit, jumped at Jaliran. To stop the fire-lizards from scratching them to death, Kalushka and Jaliran were forced to feed the two creatures their lunches.
When the siblings returned to Blossom Hold later in the afternoon, both were tired and hungry, but they proudly showed off their new friends. Kalushka named her Green fire-lizard Jashta, and her brother gave his the title of Synaer. A few months after Jashta’s Impression, a competition was held among the young men of the hold. They all wanted to see who was the best fighter. Having never been trained to fight in any type of combat, Kalushka failed with flying colors. her companions had the idea that she was a great athlete, but after this competition, they teased her. Due to the teasing she experienced, Kalu became determined to find a way to beat them all.
After losing in the Fight Contest, Kalushka began to train herself on the proper techniques of fighting. She observed the lessons boys were taught, and rather then tell anyone about what she was doing, Kalushka trained away from the Hold. She preferred to keep her abilities quiet, just in case the other boys decided to hold another contest. When her sixteenth turn approached, Kalushka had already fallen into the rhythm of her life. She woke up in the morning and ate her breakfast. Then she hiked up to a clearing in the jungles near Blossom Hold to practice her fighting techniques. Kalushka would return to the Hold about midmorning to work on the commissions people had ordered, and then she took a break before performing her chores for the day. Kal’s day would continue on like this, riddled with different jobs and chores that must be completed. When the day of her sixteenth turn arrived, Kalushka was happily chatting with other young ladies of the Hold. During their conversation, a Blue dragon had appeared in the sky. Awed by the sight, Kalu did not notice the rider arguing with her parents. When a hand touched her shoulder, the girl whipped around and found herself looking up in the Bluerider’s face. He asked her if she wished to Stand for the upcoming clutch.
Kalushka accepted the offer and quickly found herself on the back of the lithe Blue. When the girl did Stand, she did not Impress. During every clutch she was a candidate for, Kalushka was left standing alone. Having been rejected countless times by the dragons, Kalushka finally gave up the idea of Impressing a dragon. She did not Stand for Fath’s or Aslath’s clutches, but she did sit in the Stands to watch the Impression of the baby dragons. Now, an old and dying Queen Wher has found her way into Selenitas. With the choice between Impressing a dragon or a Wher, Kalushka has chosen to Stand for the Wher clutch. Leading up to the first Wher Hatching of Sleenitas, Kal felt nervous and excited, but the event came and went without a change in the girl's life. She was left without a companion excepty for her silly fire-lizard Jashta.
Kalushka shrugged it off, forcing herself to look ahead with hope. The Queen Wher, Neisk, would eventually Run and clutch, providing the candidate with a second chance, but that time was a ways off. As her life continued, the candidate managed to Impress a blind salamandyr. He emerged from Adith's Egg and cried out to her for help. Besides the Impression of Blue Fog, Kalushka also had a few run-ins with WeyrlingMaster I'mny. Both were annoyed by each other, but with the possible Impression of a Wher, Kal hoped that she would neevr have to deal with the man again. When the Hatching finally came, the first to hatch was a dark green with bright neon green goggle-like markings around her eyes and a few speckles of the same color on her right shoulder. The candidate watched the Green with excitement and hope coursing through her body as the creature strutted before the candidates, and when it was time to choose, the beauty headed straight for Kalu. Her name was Kalushsk.| - Green Kalushsk - |
Name: Kalushsk [Black Feline Egg]
Color: Green *2D4D2E*
Age: Adult
Appearance - Kalushsk is quite definitely a beautiful wher, and she knows it. One of the few whers who rivals a Queen for beauty, and perhaps even other creatures as well, this particular green is a creature of grace and elegance. Her whole body is arching and perfectly proportioned, from tip to tail. With her short, narrow muzzle and delicately slanting head, Kalushsk's eyes are set a bit farther apart than those of most whers, they are not quite so bug-eyed as other whers and almost always appear to be more liquid, colors fading and changing smoothly. Her legs are slender yet well-muscled, and her chest is a bit narrower than that of most, with her larger wings making making her body appear even narrower. Her tail is exceptionally long and almost whip-like and helps her keep her balance well.
While Kalushsk is anatomically beautiful, her coloring isn't quite so perfect, though it is definitely intriguing. The majority of her body is a dark green, relative to that of shadowed leaves, and makes her appear very nearly black in the night, making it hard to locate her. While she is quite capable of sneaking around in the dark, unnoticed, parts of her hide aren't quite so suited for the night. Most apparent in her coloring are the "goggles" of a very vivid, almost acidic green that encircles each of her eyes, the uneven circles connected by a thin band of green. A few speckles of this color freckle across her right shoulder, almost seeming to glow in the darkness, though they are just as visible in the day.
Personality - This particular green has the demeanor of a Queen, and a self-centered one at that. It is always Kalushsk who comes first, and Kalushsk's needs are greatest. She is most proud of her looks and always flaunts them, demanding cleaning and oiling as often as possible. She is quite aware of the males of her species and will develop into quite the flirt, constantly flicking her tail in the face of any blue, brown, or bronze who approaches her. Strangely enough, she also does this to dragons, and sometimes doesn't even seem to think that there is a difference at all between whers and dragons.
While Kalushsk believes herself to be the most important, her handler comes next. This green is undeniably loyal, protecting Kalushka whenever someone even seems close to hurting her bonded, be it physically or mentally. She is also not adverse to revenge, and seems to take pleasure in it when she does, often resorting to fangs and claws to get the job done. She can be tender at times as well, if not a bit protective, and often guards others with a sense of ownership. Regal to the last bit, Kalushsk believes herself to be the Queen of All, and observes golds, both dragon and wher, to be part of her property, even if they don't know it.| - Green Flit Jashta - |
Name: Jashta
Color: Green
Age: Adult
Physical Appearance: Jashta is a sturdy little Green. She has a short muscular frame, and she was not blessed with the lithe agile bodies Blues and Green are known for. Her coloring is a dark evergreen tree color. Swirls of a lighter color decorate her body as accents. The patterns give the green a painted look that resembles windy days.
Personality: Jashta is an outgoing, demanding, selfish little creature. She believes that everything that belongs to her humanpet is actually her property. The Green is territorial and often attacks anyone who enters Kalushka’s quarters. If the flit isn’t attacking you, she’s demanding to be rubbed, oiled, bathed, or simply pampered to death. Jash refuses to believe that any creature, dragon, wher, salamandyr or flit, is better then her. Jashta will not acknowledge anyone who doesn’t treat her properly and will bite a person if he insults her. Kalushka is the only one in Selenitas Weyr that can treat Jashta anyway she wants. It is only everyone else who must treat the Green as befitting her supposed rank as a Queen.| - Brown Fire-lizard Eulo - |
Name: Eulo [As in Eulogy]
Color: Brown
Age: Young
Appearance: Pale is this fire lizard, his hide a soft, tan brown shade that fades gradually into darker, chocolate brown along his tail, the tip of his muzzle, and his legs; these 'markings', especially the one on his muzzle, makes it look rather as if he went wading in mud and dipped his tail and face in, and then jumped out again and let the mud dry. It's only emphasized by a few freckles of the same color along his flanks. His wing membranes are, surprisingly, darker than his actual body, and are an appealing shade of light, milky brown. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and while some might find this coloration beautiful, others will undoubtedly veer away from it. Likewise with his frame; some will take a liking to it; others will find it unattractive. For this brown is small, some of the larger blues even matching or surpassing him, with a long, whiplike body, lean and with a fragile appearance that is heightened by his pale coloring. Long wings that are more skinny than slender are almost double his length, giving him a rather gawky look when he's not in the air. His neck ridges are soft and blunt, adding a rather feminine touch to this brown's body, and his eyes slightly larger than normal.
Personality: Quiet and aloof, this fire lizard rarely lets his emotions overrule common sense - in fact, he rarely lets his emotions show at all. With an eternal air of detachment from whatever the given situation is, he keeps sense uppermost in his mind, and reacts according to that. Exceptionally intelligent for a brown, he rarely interferes with his Bonded's life, or anybody's at all. With an independent streak, he often goes off by himself, along the coast or the river or the jungle, though he always returns soon enough that nobody will worry about him. He's never the type to let out unnecessary noise - in fact, he's quiet to the point where most who meet him in his Bonded's company might mistake him for mute. Neither are tongue-lashings or scoldings the way of this fire lizard; if he's irritated, he leaves. That's all. Rare it is that he sticks around when something irritates him. Mostly speaking through emotions and images, he's eloquent in that he usually gets his point across with little effort. For this fire lizard, females have little temptation for him, and it's rare that he'll ever Chase in a Flight, or socialize at all. If he's with His and they're in a situation with fire lizards, he prefers to watch, silent, and should anyone invite him to join the fun, he'll decline, not because he's haughty but simply because he has no interest in other flits. However, one of the few things that endlessly amuse and astonish him are Salamandyrs: this brown has a fascination for the creatures that is incredibly obvious. While he never interacts, truly, with them, he does seem to enjoy examining them, very intently...| - Blue 'mandyr Fog - |
Name: Fog *AFEEEE*
Color: Blue
Age: Adult
Physical Appearance: This salamandyr is an odd one, pale ice-blue, and completely blind. Milky eyes stare from the silvered skin, blank and devoid of the brilliant colors others’ eyes bear. Small, it’s easy to mistake him for a white—until he speaks, or he is seen against a true white. Rather, he’s a runt, one who would never survive in the wild, and must be carefully tended if he is to have any chance of survival, even in captivity. Other than his obvious disability, this blue is a very pretty creature, with surprisingly large wings for a salamandyr, though it is a pity they are wasted on a ‘mandyr which will never fly.
Personality: Gentle and demure, this blue is afraid of almost everything, and will freeze in place and tremble at loud noises, his claws digging into whatever surface possible. He prefers to always be close to his chosen Bonded, usually riding on the shoulder or on the sleeve, long nails hooked into the cloth. This blue rarely speaks, preferring instead to reply with chirps and quiet noises, only crying for His when terrified, or hungry.
