M'kai brushed red hair out of his face, shivering slightly despite the still-warm weather. Already pale-skinned, he was significantly whiter than usual, and his eyes had deep circles beneath them. One of the last taken by the plague, and one of the few to survive being as sick as he was, M'kai had been out of commission for months now. He didn't even know how long he was sick for, and then afterwards the Healers wanted him quarantined, just in case. They had finally given him the go ahead to return to real life only hours ago, and he'd spent his time getting settled back in. He still had to meet with a Weyrlingmaster to figure out what to do about his training- he was hopelessly behind now, but he was putting THAT particular conversation off as long as he could.
At least Ahth had the room to himself for a while, Futh chimed in, not a hint of sarcasm in his voice. The Blue was truly happy that his roommate hadn't had to deal with them; Ahth made it no secret that Futh was not his favorite creature. Pretty much anything made Futh happy these days, though. M'kai's survival was enough for him.
M'kai scraped half-congealed food off the plate in his hand into the bin below, adding the mostly clean plate to the growing stack next to him. He'd seen the note about chores up in the Weyrling Barracks, and found the Headwoman before he found F'ur. She'd placed him here, out of the way, before M'kai even realized he was going to be doing chores. Some other unfortunate came to remove the stack of dishes as M'kai added a bowl and spoon- a drudge, or a candidate maybe. He was so disconnected he didn't even know.
The blueweyrling glanced up, not even noticing the knife that followed food into the trash bin. He could only see a sliver of tables from here, but the ones he could see were emptying. Anyone who came to drop off a plate entered his field of vision for a moment or two, and M'kai was doing his best to watch, in case someone he recognized came through the line. F'ur, maybe, so he could talk about lessons. R'wgin certainly knew M'kai was back by now, although the Blueriders hadn't crossed paths yet. Best of all would be Crystoph, whom M'kai hadn't seen since before Futh's hatching, eight months ago. He had pretty much given up hope of running into his brother, though- if Cry hadn't turned up for the Hatching, he wasn't turning up for anything. Maybe he was one of those who were slowly dissapearing, or maybe he was dead. As much as M'kai hated to admit it, he couldn't do anything until Futh learned to fly, and he might have to wait even longer on that now.
Yes, Cry would be the best to see in line.

Crystoph picked at his food absently wondering idly what Xerxes was up to. He rather liked the younger boy. Yes Xerxes meshed well into Crystoph’s tiny circle of friends and he intended on trying to keep the candidate there. Xerxes had been claimed by Crystoph which was strange in itself because the red head hadn’t let anyone into his family since Meagan. None of the other lads at Benden had held his interest and he wasn’t sure why Xerxes had. Perhaps it had something to do with the day on the river. After all once someone saved your life you could hardly forget them. Well like it or not he was bound and determined to do his best to protect the boy. If anyone messed with Xerxes by proxy they where messing with Crystoph.
Flicking a piece of tuber he watched idly as a small flit picked it up and fluttered off into the rafters. There where an awful lot of the menaces around now. Actually Crystoph was rather glad he hadn’t impressed that day on the cliffs. It was his loneliness that had pressed him to try and now that he was no longer really lonely he didn’t desire a pet at all. More trouble than they where worth even if the things where sharding adorable when they hatched. Sighing the candidate pushed is chair back and rose to join the line dropping off dishes for the drudges.
Idly he handed the plate over to a hand that looked frighteningly familiar. So familiar in fact that it stopped Crystoph cold, causing the person behind him to mumble something decidedly unpleasant in his direction. The rider behind the candidate was ignored however as Crystoph stared at Mikail. That was his face. His brother…he was alive. Two emotions warred for dominance anger and relief. Unfortunately first the anger won out.
“YOU SHARDING WHER FACED…” Before he could gather up something more intelligent to say he had leapt across the small space separating him from his brother and tackled him to the ground. Crystoph reared back a fist intending to hit his brother when someone grabbed him roughly from behind. “Let me go!” The red head yelled struggling in vain against the muscular rider who held him. The brown rider kept his hold on Crystoph while the drudges hurriedly fluttered to M’kai’s side. Only in that instant did a shred of remorse wind it’s way around Crystoph’s heart. His brother was so pale.
The brown rider roughly jerked Crystoph towards the door intending to shove him out into the night. Strangely the candidate didn’t resist, although he could think up one or two ways to break the hold the rider had on him. Emotionally he was numb right now and so he didn’t even react when the rider let go of him to stand awkwardly close by. In case Crystoph intended to make a break for the kitchens again. Mikail had been alive and he hadn’t even come looking. Why? In actuality, Crystoph had been under the impression that maybe his brother had died. That was somehow better than the realization that maybe he just hadn’t cared.

Are you done soon, M'kaiMineLove? I am not hungry yet, but I would like very much to be oiled. And my couch is dusty. Futh hated dirt of any kind- he was probably standing on the floor staring at his bed rather than sleeping in it. The poor Blue had been highly distraught when His was sick, very worried about the germs that might be going around in the hospital wing. M'kai glanced down at the plates, his eyes going very blank.
I'm done when I'm done, Futh. I'm sorry, I- M'kai never got to finish his thought.
About six things happened at once. Some was shouting, very near him. Maybe at him. The person's dishes had crashed to the floor, shattering, and a splash of sauce now dripped off M'kai's pant leg. Futh was in his head, asking Mine? Mine!. M'kai realized he was on his back only a split second before his attacker was dragged off, probably outside. Firelizards were screaming in the rafters, and a circle had formed around the momentary fight, which was now breaking up in rising murmurs.
His head had cracked back against the floor when he landed, but there was another reason that it took M'kai a full ten seconds to move. In the split second before he had been tackled... that was Crystoph. It had been. It had to have been . No one had any reason to attack M'kai, not that he knew of anyway, but Cry would lose his temper, no matter the reason. Prone, M'kai tried to process, considering any alternate solutions he could find.
People drew back as he got up, whispering and huddling like people do when there is violence. The flits that hadn't left were as far as they could get already, but still peering his direction. Followed by what felt like hundreds of eyes, he stumbled outside in a half daze. It had to be Crys. It had to be.
And there he was, M'kai's mirror, his hair slightly disarrayed. The Brownrider who had no doubt removed Crystoph from the Hall was still hanging around close by, but M'kai didn't even see him. He stared at his brother for half a beat before throwing himself at him. The browrider darted forward with a shouted "Hey!", trying to seperate the two. Without breaking momentum, M'kai slugged the rider between the eyes, taking Crystoph down in a pile of pale limbs.
Even he wasn't sure if he was trying to hug his brother or strangle him.

Crystoph saw M’kai coming and was able to angle himself so that the brunt of the fall was taken by his own body rather than Mik’s. Angry the twin might have been, but he still cared deeply for his brother and it was obvious by his body tone that M’kai hadn’t been well in his absence. That fact alone put a significant dent in the candidate’s anger. His brother had been sick. Very sick from the looks of it and Crystoph pained for him. Still M’kai had had Futh while he was ill. Crystoph had really had no one and that realization kept his anger from all together disappearing. He was still sharding pissed.
The brown rider however had not been so lucky, and he staggered backward hand coming up automatically to check his face. Out of the corner of his eye Crystoph watched the rider. When it became apparent that the pair had a little time until the man recovered sufficiently to retaliate, the red head turned to his twin. M’kai had lost quite a bit of muscle mass and it was easy enough for his brother to bat away the arms intending to encircle his throat, or was it shoulders? Catching M’kai’s shoulders, Crystoph shoved his brother over quickly sufficiently pinning his squirming brother underneath him. He put enough pressure on the other boy to all but stall his movement.
As the candidate looked into his brothers grey blue eyes he paused for a short moment. Those yes where so familiar. Anger, sadness, worry, and hopefulness, the exact same emotions Crystoph was feeling for the most part. Slowly the red head leaned down so his hair fell in a curtain around his other twin, sufficiently blocking out everything but him. His brother needed to listen. “Look Mik. We can’t do this here. That brown rider is pretty pissed. When I let go we run. Meet me about a mile from the docks and we can hash this out.” Without another word the candidate rolled off his brother and with a quick glance at the now recovered brown rider, he dashed off. Mik would follow he was positive of that.
((If you want we can move this to another thread. The Nov chores are already done so I figure we should move so the admins can get rid of this board. <3))
