She was glad again, in the attair she was familiar with, and completely comfortable in. Skintight, stretchable, and black. Nris had her hair up in a tight bun, again, and there were knives sheathed on the outsides of her shins, her thighs, and also the insides of her forearms.
And she was swimming quickly, invisibly beneath the surface of the water. Narry a ripple betrayed her presence. After being awakened with news that the Weyr was under attack, the candidate had taken no time at all to prepare, running to her element and diving in.
She was a very good swimmer. And could hold her breath for a long time. Slowing to a near halt in the water, she carefully broke surface with nothing more than her nose. Taking a few clearing breaths, and then a series of deep ones, she sank downward again, before resuming her journey.
The attackers would have to cross the river, to get anywhere, she knew that. And more than likely, quite a few would not have the luxury of boats to do it. And as self important as dragonriders tended to be, they didn't often tend to be all that deft in moving water.
Indeed, she found her first victem. Or three, actually. Pulling a knife from her shin, she started a quick, small kick, blurring through the water with speed. The three people crossing the river were quite plainly not locals. And she swam past the one in back, hamstringing him as she went past. Both legs slashed deep enough to completely sever the tendon. It was not easy to do at all, but it worked. As the man crashed into the water with a cry, she circled around, and let the current carry her back again. She could see the legs of the others thrashing around in the water as they looked for thier opponent - but she wasn't up there.
She tugged the flailing and screaming man under the water, and held him down for the few seconds it took for him to drown. It wasn't easy at all, but considering the pain he was in, his retaliation was not at all very well directed.
Nris heard the other people shouting ... and then go silent when the corpse of thier companion resurfaced. She grimmaced, and swam upriver again, to avoid detection. While she waited out thier water thrashings, looking for her, she garnered herself a new breath of air. She didn't really need it - not yet - but in the next few moments, there was no telling when her next chance would be.
And then she allowed herself to be swept downstream again. Her goals were to not only kill, but instill terror as well. Which meant pulling this off without getting seen. They would not know it was a young woman in the water hunting them. She caught the legs of her second victem, and toppled them into the water. The last person fled the river, but was still nearby. She could hear them, still, muffled through the water.
A breif struggle with this one, and a knifing to the chest silenced him. Blood streamed down the water, as she let him go to also bob to the surface and float away. Drat. Her last one got away. But there was no way she was leaving the river to get him.
Swimming onward, upstream, still completely submerged, Nris went looking for another group to ambush and slay.
Unknown to her, though, trailing along in the water behind her, also submerged, Aslan was making pretty good time in following her. He had to dip upward more often than she was, but he was determined to follow his pet. And keep her safe. Never mind there wasn't anything he could do other than follow.
