Name: Janisi
Age: 23 (September)
Gender: female
Sexual Orientation: homosexual
Rank: Green rider
Physical Appearance:
Straight black hair and a sallow skin tone mark Janisi as having an oriental distant ancestor or two. She’s of average height and has filled out to a slim figure with longer than average legs and smaller than average breasts, which she is secretly very disappointed in.
Janisi’s face is nothing spectacular, all the usual features in the usual places. What distinguishes Janisi is her expression, a sort of half smile as if she’s vaguely amused by something. This impression is reinforced by a twinkle of good humour in her dark grey eyes.
Janisi is not much into clothes, usually opting for comfort over appearance. Still, she is always clean and tidy down to her shoes. She prefers nude or soft colors, even in her gather finery but is usually seen in brown or gray trousers and tunic, black belt and boots. Her only real vanity is her hair, which she wears down as often as possible with small jeweled combs holding it away from her face.
Personality:
The person who can laugh at herself will be endlessly amused, and Janisi is that person. She’d much rather have people laughing with her than at her, and rather at her than anyone else. She seems to have half a hundred silly tales of things she’s done that can be trotted out to distract anyone.
She’s forever thinking the best of everyone and giving people the benefit of the doubt even when they hurt her. In fact she tries to think of good things about people who upset her so she can forgive them.
Janisi has began to accept weyr life more wholeheartedly, though it took much getting used to. She has become a bit of a flirt, and her attention is usually concentrated on the more flamboyant female green and blue riders. Though she has a few special friends that help her out when a male rider's dragon catches Storith, she isnt interested in a relationship.
When she isnt tending to her duties, Storith, or training she likes to help out in the kitchen. Her sense of humor is quite welcome among the ladies there and she is sweet on one of the cooks, though the feeling is likely not mutual. She still enjoys the company and the cooks enjoy the help. Janisi isnt a master chef, but she is great with the basic things and can make a pretty good soup.
Janisi is very serious about her duties, but always tries to keep the mood light and enjoy herself! Storith and Janisi both love to play in the rain. When the weyr is blesses with a gentle one, that is.
History:
Janisi was born in a small and very strict hold in the north. she was the oldest child of her father’s second wife and in effect the oldest child in the family since the youngest of her half siblings was seven years older than her.
Janisi was put in charge of her younger siblings as soon as she was considered responsible enough to watch them while they worked on simple tasks. What even the children did was separated by gender, girls did ‘women’s work’ such as carding and spinning wool, sewing and cooking while boys were expected to learn to tend to the holds animals, and start hunting and tracking as soon as they could.
As Janisi grew up she grew restless, the simple life and the simple work she was allowed to do never quite satisfied her, although it seemed her mother and sisters, and the other women around her were all quite content. Since she the oldest of the children who still lived at home Janisi was sometimes sent to carry messages to other small holds in the area, as she was under her father’s protection while she undertook these tasks she never had to worry about her safety.
It was at one of these other holds that Janisi met another young girl about her age called Erria, now these two young sheltered girls fell in love, or at least in lust but from their point of view it was love, but really had no idea what they’d gotten themselves into. Their experience of relationships in their homes was that when a girl reached the mature age of fifteen, which they were both approaching, her father would pick out a husband for her, possibly taking advice from her mother. It was also know to the two that sometimes if a girl expressed a liking for a particular suitor to her mother then that would be mentioned to her father.
With this hope firmly on her mind as her fifteenth turn approached Janisi timidly approached her mother on the topic of marriage. At first her mother was quietly happy that her daughter had a sweetheart, as a pairing between two youngsters who at least liked each other was favoured. However this quickly turned to horror and disgust when she learned her daughter’s favoured suitor was female!
Her father was informed as fast as human speed and volume would allow and Janisi quickly found herself head and shoulders deep in some kind of trouble although she wasn’t exactly sure what she’d done wrong, why in the world would her mother object so strongly to Erria?
Janisi’s father was not a cruel man by nature but he was strict, when he was told about Erria he decided to set an example to his other children about improper behaviour. Overnight Janisi’s family started acting as if she was dead, or had never existed, no work or food was set aside for her, and anything she said or did was studiously ignored by all but the youngest children.
Upset and confused by this sudden change in behaviour Janisi hung around the hold for a while, taking food from the kitchen and working anyway. When a neighbour with a son about her age stopped by and asked after Janisi on his son’s behalf her father’s answer: ‘I have no daughter called Janisi’ shocked Janisi into taking some action. Deciding that she couldn’t possibly get into any worse trouble, she stole food, clothing, a small amount of marks, and one of the oldest runnerbeasts and left.
At first she had no real idea where she was going, only a desire to leave. Eventually her small store of marks, plus the pittance she got for selling her runner, got her passage on a trader’s cargo ship headed South.
When the ship landed at Hyphen hold Janisi had no choice but to look for work immediately since her purse was very lean indeed. She took a position as a general worker, cooking, cleaning, and the like, which she remained in until being Searched.
when she was new to the Weyr, Janisi was constantly either lost, scandalised, or fascinated, sometimes more than one of the above. Despite these constant issues Janisi Impressed green Storith when standing for the Tropical clutch. Her life has changed, as she guessed it would, but never would she have guessed that a major change would be the addition of the phrase 'Storith, where did this come from?' to her most commonly said things.
Janisi managed to survive weyrlinghood, though she often feels it was an accident considering the string of weyrlingmasters her class had, though Storith’s first Flight nearly made her drop dead of embarrassment.
3010-3012 Werylinghood
Storith and Janisi's weyrling was marked by tragedy. The entire clutch, and clutches after this one were all in the midst of disaster.
First, the Siege of Selenitas by Benden and then Fort had the pair scared for their lives, especially as the casualty count kept rising! Finally, the Gold sister of Storith, Hepaticath, rose for her maiden flight, marking the end of the weyrlinghood.
3012-3017 Disasterous times
But adulthood wasnt much easier, as the pair attempted to settle into their new duties and title. Janisi was heartbroken when she learned of Hepaticath's eggs being stolen, then rejoiced wholeheartedly when the 13 eggs hatched!
The greenrider was nearly killed with the fever in 3013. When she recovered, Benden and Selenitas had formed and alliance, and she hoped for a period of peace!
Janisi was exceedingly proud when her Weyr was able to fight off another invasion, which came on the heels of the destruction of High Reaches.
It seemed the peace was not to last, as Wasteland seised Selenitas and killed Hepaticath's rider, and Hepaticath betweened. Janisi wondered if she would ever get over that acute loss! Storith wouldnt eat for days after, and remained week and off color for two weeks! Janisi hated the Wastelanders and avoided them at all cost. She was disgusted with Kaegan and Millieth for giving into them, no matter what the consequenced would have been. As time passed and the wasteland numbers dwindled, her anger cooled but she will still have nothing to do with them. She would rather let them be holdless than accept their presence in her weyr!
Janisi and Storith attend the Hyphen Hold's gather and Janisi wonders what new problems this Burimyu will cause for her home.
Finally an earthquake destroys the Weyr and forces Selenitas and Burimyu to work together. Storith and Janisi are doin all they can to keep up their spirits and settle into their new home.
Dragon:
Name: Storith
Color: Green
code 05d000
Age: 7 turns
Physical Appearance:
Dainty in bone size and figure, this green has short appendages, including legs and tail. Although her wings are the widest thing on her, its her personality that shouts out the loudest. Storith is a bright tropical Green with blue tinted stripes that fall down her sides like tiger stripes. Quite a bit smaller than the average green, this female is destined to never be very large or even intimidating. In fact, Storith's appearance looks more like a cute child than that of a powerful dragon.
She will never be the fastest Green in the air, but her ability to make a vertical takeoff might help in certain situations. Her thread fighting ethics are not effected by her 'look at me' attitude, she knows why she's here (other than having attention doted upon her), and will always be ready to fight the cursed strands.
Personality:
Storith is like a child. Demanding near constant attention from her Mine and basically anyone, this green loves to be praised for her good actions. When trying to get someone's attention, Storith will often say "You know what?" even if there's nothing that the person needs to know. This female craves to be watched and admired, but if anyone should insult or hurt her feelings in any way, she is likely to sulk sadly until someone counterbalances the hurt with love. Storith is also prone to whine to get what she wants, and it will undoubtedly get on the nerves of other dragons and even humans. Not only does the Green act like a child, she also gets into trouble like a child. She can sometimes be found escapading around the Weyr, bothering and annoying all the dragons she can lay her grubby little claws on. Storith will also try and test the limits of her rank as often as she can, so whoever her mine is has to pay constant attention to her.
This female has an odd attraction to shiny items, so don't be surprised if you find her hoarding things from goblets to jewellery, and most of her collection won't necessarily be hers. Her take on rules of possession are as uncertain as a child's would be, and her views on normal rules are strained, but she'll eventually slide into the normal ways of the Weyr.
The past seven years have been quite hard for the greenrider pair, but Storith keeps her spirit up with the help of her beloved! Having just experienced the destruction of the only home she has ever known, Storith has been a bit off-color but is recovering from the shock. She should be top notch in time for the next hatching!
