Name: Syrialenai
Age: 43
--December 2979
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Rank: Lady Holder
Family:
Mother: N/A
Father: N/A
Siblings: 2nd daughter of 6 children
Children: Syrinoar, male (25), Aleyre, female (24), Minoasyr, male (22), Enatyre, male (16), Nainoa, female (13)
Physical Appearance: In her youth, Syrialenai was a glowing girl. He hair was a beautiful butterscotch blonde and she had sea-green eyes. Now, her hair seems more silvery gray than the golden it once was. Her body too, once supple and strong, has faded to being thin. Her face is a bit on the long side, smile lines from years of having to be polite to other Lord holders reside on either side of her mouth. She’s not very tall, only coming to about 5’2”, but she’s willowy. Her arms a bit long, and her legs matching them. Her hips and abdomen show inerasable evidence of bearing her five children, however, though she lacks a defined paunch.
In attire, Syrialenai prefers gay colours. She’s a wardrobe fit for a Lady Holder, however she often wear darker colours that fit the northern climate. She more uses her bright preferences to highlight her often dark coloured attire, though in the warmer months its not uncommon to see her don a brighter array, occasionally even braving white on particularly hot days. Syrialenai also has a repertoire of practical clothing to match her affection for gardening. Worn hide pants and work shirts are not worn in public, however, since her husband is of the mind that ladies should be ladies. Good for little else than looking at and bearing children.
Personality: If there was ever truth to the whole “the meek shall inherit the earth,“ phrase, Syrialenai would be among those ranks. She’s quiet, keeping most of her words to herself. The harshness of her husband Tyreminoar against her speaking quelled her once opinionated streak. Instead, she has become an observer, adding comment only when allowed, and then, only when the words are important. The abuse of her husband influenced Syrialenai into a kind a loving mother. All of her children have a room in her house if ever they need it. She has tried her best to prevent her daughters from experiencing the heavy hand of their father, and each has been taught in the ways of being a proper lady. Whether they abide by it or not, is up to them.
Syrialenai, though quiet, is intelligent. She can pick up quickly on what others don’t say, just as much as they do say. If she is asked her opinion, she will hardy ever give an “I don’t know,”. She’s not one to lie, but if asked if she loves her husband she would give the dutiful “yes”. Syrialenai had an infatuation with Tyreminoar in her youth. He was handsome and attractive to her. However that fantasy quickly faded when she learned of his demeanor. She dies not love him, but she is dutiful and loyal to him. She does not question him about anything, preferring to leave him alone. In a way, she fears him, especially when he is in a rage.
Beyond her duties as Lady Holder, Syrialenai took up gardening as a hobby. She’s a private, tiny collection of flowers and vegetables that she grows in pots that have broken from the kitchen. She is very careful of them, ensuring that they do not endanger the Hold with Thread falling. She understands that if only one leaf ever shows up even singed by Thread, the entire collection will be burned.
History:
2979 - 2996
Syrialenai was born as the second daughter of a family friend to the Benden Lord Holder at the time. Her family was well to do, and so she was raised with all the proper manners she would ever need. All the same, she never had much reason to want for anything, and her friends were limited to the daughters of other affluent families. What she saw of Tyreminoar was enough to strike her teenage fancy. He was handsome, attractive, and strong, and the Lord Holder’s heir! What girl wouldn’t dream of being his wife? That dream became a reality when she turned seventeen and was arranged to be married. It was then that the dream ended and the truth of Tyreminoar came out. He was harsh and brutal, and where she had once been able to speak amongst her family she found she was hardly permitted words at all. Despite this, she still loved him, and learned to adapt to his ways.
2997 - 3006
Life seemed easy enough. Syrialenai still lived well, wanted for nothing, and enjoyed all the perks of being the wife to the heir of the Hold. The first few turns were easy enough. Her husband seemed more focused on other things, and children were not of too much important. At 22 she gave birth to their first child, a son named Syrinoar, and it seemed from then on she was nearly kept pregnant. The following turn, she gave Tyreminoar a daughter named Aleyre, and at around 24, their third child came into the world, a second son named Minoasyr. With three young children to raise, and nearly nothing else to do, Syrialenai focused all of her attention on her brood. During this time, in 3004, Tyreminoar became Lord Holder of Benden under suspect circumstances of which Syrialenai chose to turn a blind eye. She did not want to know what happened, and it wasn’t like her husband was going to let her know, anyway. Besides, she gave birth to her fourth child (and the first after six years), another son named Enatyre.
3007 - 3013
After Tyreminoar’s rise to power, he was kept distracted from his wife more than before. During this time she spent a great deal of her days with his mother, the former Lady Holder. Spending so much time with such an experienced woman, Syrialenai learned the ways of an efficient Lady Holder. She learned how to handle her husband, and how to been seen but not heard. This did little to foster romantic love from Syrialenai towards Tyreminoar, it made his harsh ways more tolerable. It also made keeping to herself easier, and her quietness nearly became total silence save for when spoken to directly or when speaking to her children, of which she had a fifth and final child, a daughter named Nainoa.
By way of this, and a Lord Holder’s wife being kept away from “common riff-raff” (as the former Lady Holder put it), very little made its way to her ears. She heard about Thread beginning, Benden Weyr‘s involvement with drugs in dragons (since, by proxy, the Hold stood a chance of being cast in a poor light as well), and the odd clutch or two, but most of what she heard were rumors, of which she quickly considered useless.
3014 - 3020
The death of the former Lady Holder, Tyreminoar’s mother, was a source of great grief for Syrialenai. She mourned with the rest of the Hold, but took the lessons she learned from the woman and moved on. With her role of Lady Holder now fully realized, she began to take a little more note to what was going on. Despite still being sheltered, Syrialenai made a point of learning a bit more about the world in which she lived.
Again, by proxy of name, she knew a little more about Benden Weyr, and that they had some sort of affiliation with another entity that was somehow important in the war that she knew was going on, but never saw or experienced. By paying attention to rumors and gossip spread by her attending ladies whom were allowed to associate with more common people, she learned that it might be another weyr that wasn’t Fort. Until then, she wasn’t even aware of another prominent Weyr, and only of defects in the Fort regimen (learned from one of Tyreminoar’s ravings about “Benden Weyr setting a bad name for his Hold”).
Her husband became less harsh when the war ended, with their beholden weyr no longer “giving Benden Hold a poor rap”. Syrialenai knew of a Summit, but was told it was for men only and so she remained to tend her youngest children. When she learned of her restrictions being lessened, Syrialenai chose to remain to her ways. She didn’t dare try something new, for fear of upsetting her hidebound husband. However, she did meet and was quite stricken by a young harper named Matteo though she chose to keep it secret from her husband lest he see the harper as threat to him for his wife.
[I[3021 - Present (3023)[/I]
With her new freedoms, Syrialenai found that knowledge came to her more easily, especially with her secret affiliation with Matteo. She was able to pay more attention to the news of things, though she remained sheltered to some degree. She knew about some of the weyr happenings, but only of Hatchings, and never of any names of them. She knew her Golds and Bronzes, “as any good Lady Holder should,” (by way of Tyreminoar’s mother) but never of really anyone else. She smiled more and held small, quiet conversations with prominent persons in public, and found she was enjoying herself more. She even began to feel affection for Matteo but denied them to herself to prevent an upset. After all, she is a Lord Holder’s wife and the mother of his children. A crush on a harper is nothing compared to a long marriage, right? Nonetheless, Syrialenai developed small feelings for the man. However, she is still very wary of her husband, and is still stand-offish to because of this.
