Name: Kaegan
Age: 32
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Rank: Senior Weyrwoman
Born: February 18, 2991
Children: Kai, Inanae
Physical Appearance: Averaging out at around five foot six, Kaegan is lean and has healthy olive skin that is speckled lightly by freckles, but not enough to be too noticeable. This woman usually wears clothes that are comfortable for both work and play, and for the most part consists of her favorite pair of black leather boots, riding breaches, and loose fitting shirts. But sometimes she has to dress up for special occasions... Her halo of curly crimson hair is usually pulled back with a black satin ribbon, and her almond shaped eyes are never covered, which allows people to see them to be hazel. Though green dominates the coloration more than brown. Kaegan's face is neither narrow nor wide and is settled perfectly between the two, and her body seems to be made more for speed and agility than of strength and brawn. For what use does a Weyrwoman need of pure brawn, when agility and wit is more useful. This doesn't mean she isn't powerful...
Kaegan has scars up her arms, on the back of her neck and on her back from being thrown into the fire. They are silvery smooth in appearance and don't exactly mar her figure, but they are noticeable in contrast to her skin, and she's not very self conscious of them anymore. For a while she kept them hidden by long sleeves and wearing her hair down. Now she doesn't mind if other people see's the scars, it reinforces the idea that she too has been affected by the war and that being a Weyrwoman isn't entirely a safe position to be in.
Personality: Kaegan is… not the woman she once was. Timid? No. She no longer backs down or bends backwards to compromise. She is still compassionate and patient with most of the people around her, such as friends and family, but she likes to adopt a professional attitude with those whom she needs to do business with. With the gaining of confidence Kaegan doesn’t give of a weak presence, instead she stands straight and tall letting everyone know its better not to mess with her. With some help, the Goldrider has become very good at manipulating people and situations to suit her needs and the needs of her Weyr. The Weyrwoman is a quick learner, but some things take a little more time than she'd like. After a while dealing with the Lord and Lady Holders was nothing to her, catching onto their games and personalities early on. Intercontinental politics have become an easy thing for her. And although not all the holds particularly like Selenitas, she still hopes she can sway them. Or at least, not make it worse.
Despite her new and perhaps, improved attitude, she is not a cold person. Her emotions are easily read when she’s not hiding them, and is all in all a friendly person. Kaegan likes to have people underestimate her, it really is the key to success sometimes. In the same realm of social connections, meeting people isn't hard for the woman nor is getting to know them. Formality is safe mask to hide behind at first, but to get under people’s exteriors, you have to let some kind of tendrils out for them to snag on. Something she can hide behind. One of the few things that have remained constant, has been her dislike of death. Needless to say she is glad that the Dragon War is over.
History: Kaegan was born and raised in Lemos Hold (her mother is the youngest sister of the Lord Holder), where the main exports included wood and stone, and to that account, there was an extensive forest near by. And in that forest was were the girl spent most of her free time that she was allotted after finishing her chores, though she would often slip away from her daily life to read and study in private. Through her life time at the hold, she was able to make friends with almost all of the people that occupied and lived at the hold, charming them with her attitude and antics. I'm not saying that she was put above everyone or skipped ranks because of it, only that she was considered family to most in the hold. Many people tried to persuade her not to join up with the Weyr as a candidate, but Kaegan had been waiting all her life for the possibility to be called so she had to refuse their wishes. For a while, Kaegan lived with a relative in Benden Hold, somehow avoiding the horrible side of the Hold.
But things turned out horribly wrong...
Kaegan was taken to Benden and had indeed impressed a Dragon as she had always hoped to. But at the moment if Impression, her life would take a spiral of misery and despise. Although she was surprised if not shocked that she of all people would impress a Queen, the young woman did not know that the Weyrleaders of Benden had in store for her and her new queen. It was only after she had spent a month there did she learn how brutal they were, and how violent they were with weyrlings. Not only that but how everything there was patriarchal, and queen riders are basically slaves just to have clutches. Sickened by the fact that the leader' tried to use the crude drugs on the weyrlings to enhance clutch sizes, Kaegan knew she didn't want any part of the proceedings, for her or for Millieth. There was one good part to her life at Benden, the Weyrwoman had been fortunate enough to find someone to love. Although he was powerless against the higher ranks, the Brownrider was a shield against most other men. J'em of Airteth was one of the nicer riders of the weyr, and one of the men who someday wanted to rebel against C'leon and his horrid reign. The two of them had grown very close over the months they had been courting, but even that shred of happiness was torn away from Kaegan. J'em was sent on a mission that Kaegan later found out was impossible, the Weyrleader had picked her beacon of hope on a suicide mission. Falling back into the darkness as the love was finally extinguished from her life by the man she had hated, the Junior Weyrwoman was no longer protected by J'em. Almost one year to the day of starting her stay at Benden, and even though she and Millieth had only just learned how to fly "between", the duo decided it was finally time to go into hiding. Selenitas Weyr was the safest place the Weyrwoman and her Queen could think of.
Kaegan was surprised at the willingness of the new Weyr to take her into their ranks, and she felt that it wasn't just because of her Dragon's color. Slowly, the teenager began to realize that Selenitas was absolutely nothing like Benden, although her fear of men and of being hurt still remained, it would take a while for her broken soul to heal. The first person that Kaegan began to trust was a man named F'rah, he was a brownrider and the residing Weyringmaster, although it was surprising she was able to become so trusting of a man. Next was a woman named Kalierre, she was the healer who had looked after Kaegan's sprained shoulder, and the Goldrider came to see her in the infirmary often. Even if it was just to say hello... after that, her circle of friends began to expand as she grew more bold.
Fath's clutch served to remind the GoldWeyrling how horrible Benden drugs could be, she was saddened by the fact that the most of the young dragons were disabled. If the clutch wasn't enough, Aslath rose a few months after Kaegan's initial arrival to Selenitas. Her maiden flight brought a man she had never wanted to see again to Selenitas... C'leon and his Bronze had come to chase the Queen. Fortunately for the whole weyr, he had lost to Salenth, but Kaegan knew the Bendenpair wouldn't give up. Although since that day unexpected day, Kaegan has been getting a lot better about socializing, even her fear of men began to dwindle slightly. Thread began to fall, making the Dragonriders across Pern stop for a brief moment to flame it, but not everything was as it seemed. Benden had sent a secret contingent of men to Selenitas, they were successfully able to kill off some of the Senior Weyrlings, but fortunately for the Weyr not all of them were killed. Soon after that Millieth's turn to rise inched closer, forcing the Junior Weyrwoman to try and come to terms with her wary attitude toward men. Although with the possibility of Rising, came the unexpected Weyrwoman's change of attitude toward her. It became rather sisterly, Shmee often took time out of her day just to say hi, and Kaegan began to view the Weyrwoman in a different perspective.
Millieth rose with a clamor, challenging the males of the Weyr to her golden challenge, the position of Junior Weyrlingmaster rides in the balance. The Gold was caught by a mysterious Bronze who later turned out to be a renegade Benden pair, and soon clutched a group of twelve. Because of the horrible drugging that Benden had put Millieth through, a few of her babies where born with disabilities... but nothing even close to those of Fath's last. Although the hatching was interrupted by the frightening news of her Senior Weyrwoman's abduction, leaving her in charge of the weyr along with the two Weyrleaders.
Her reign as Senior Weyrwoman hadn't been as bad as she thought it would be, a few brawls to break up, a lot of paperwork, wasn't to hard... that was until a commotion near the hatching arena drew her from her paperwork. Thinking it was just another brawl starting up, Kaegan quickly made her way to the place that births life. But it was only after she entered the arena did she realize there was something horribly wrong, and her first sign was the man standing on the Queen's dais. C'leon and his Benden Wings had invaded Selenitas, and Shmee was there at his feet, abused and weak looking. Fear had rooted her to her place, but that didn't stop two Wingleaders from bringing her to the man she had thought she had escaped for good. C'leon's reputation was with him, and in no time, he was busying himself in punishing her cruelly, successfully breaking two ribs in the process. The Benden Weyrleader had plans to kill Shmee and Kaegan, throwing them into the fire after a speech, the two weyrwomen languished. After an impassioning shout to the inhabitants of Selenitas, Kaegan passed out in the arms of Shmee, ready and willing to die and escape the pain. Luckily for the weyrwomen, K'nam lead others into a resistance against the Benden Wings, saving Kaegan and Shmee from the fire. The two weyrwomen were then taken care of in the hands of healers as the battle waged on in the hatching arena.
Kaegan eventually healed physically, but the silver scars on her arms from the burns would always be there to remind her, but mentally she was once again returned to her fear of men. There were a few exceptions of course, F'rah and his brother had always been close to her, but K'nam was a recent addition to her trust circle. He had been with her throughout her healing process, afraid to leave her side... although there might be something more in emotions where the bronzerider is concerned. Aslath rose and was caught by S'rei's Salenth. In this clutch of sixteen a new Queen was born. Hepaticath impressed to a candidate of named Savitri. These two would eventually grow together and become Junior Weyrwomen. At the end of the Turn 3010, a plague passed through Selenitas and effected the Firelizard population. Kaegan herself was lucky that neither Azaran nor her newest addition (a Salamandyr she had named Dash), caught the plague. But many of her Riders lost their little loves...
Millieth rose and was caught by N’tia’s Kirayuth, and clutched eleven eggs that soon hatched and Impressed. Yes she was still afraid of men, but this one seemed different. Maybe because they both didn't like the opposite sex that much. In the time span between Millieth's last rise and Aslath's next one, K'nam passed away. Leaving Kaegan just a little distressed. Gold Aslath rose and was caught by T'rid's Corinth, marking the next Senior Weyrleader. The Queen clutched twelve eggs, those too all hatched and Impressed to a new generation of Riders. Months later a profound loss struck the Weyr. Aslath Betweened. The death of her Rider drove her to suicide. When Shmee was found in the main-hall, it was determined that the wine she had been drinking had been poisoned. Which in turn lead to the temporary ban on all wine, specifically and most importantly ones from the Northern Continent. Because of the Goldrider's death, Kaegan was promoted to the temporary position of Senior Weyrwoman. The prospect frightened her. She had been perfectly happy picking up Shmee's slack as a Junior Weyrwoman. But they wouldn't know until Millieth or Hepaticath rose again. Much to Kaegan's dismay, Millieth rose again before the other Gold. After a long flight, she was caught by K'roi's Gareth sealing her into the position of Senior Weyrwoman. It didn't help that Hepaticath thought that she should have been the Senior Gold, if only because she wasn't a foreigner. Tensions ran a little high between the Selenitas Golds for a while after that. This time Millieth clutched thirteen eggs.
In early 3012, Benden suddenly and without warning attacked Selenitas once again. The battle dubbed the Seige, was violent and bloody. The infirmary was burned to the ground and groups of Riders were fighting around the entire Weyr. Kaegan had been captured by C'leon and was tortured per way of his revenge. He broke every finger on her left hand before pinning it to the wall with a dagger. Pain and fear drove the Weyrwoman into a hazy sort of coma in which the severe damage of her hand no longer registered on her nervous system. Dragged out into the rain of the night, she barely remembers watching R'non beaten then drawn and quartered or when Goldrider Arga killed Y'lin. What she does remember is driving a knife into the back of the soulless creature C'leon... and that it had given her enjoyment to do so. After that everything until she woke up in the infirmary was just simply, not there. Apparently Fort involved itself, but the full extent was unknown.
Months later Fort itself attacked Selenitas in a surprise raid. Although not a true attack in its most literal sense, they had come to claim defectors that they believed had come to Selenitas seeking refugee. In a startling revelation, both Weyrs found out that the defected wing had gone to Benden. Not only that but J'lorin of Illumiath was the Weyr's new Weyrleader. Fort then left Selenitas to clean up the death they had brought in their wake, the bad blood between the two weyrs only deepened. But to every storm cloud there is a silver lining. Gold Hepaticath rose and was caught by Ka'rys's Ciceroth. Thirteen eggs were laid and preparations for the eagerly awaited Weyrlings began. But as if the world wanted to say that bad times were not yet over, there was an attempted theft of Hepaticath's eggs. Little was known about which Weyr was behind the plot, but it was apparent they wanted the Queen egg. Said egg hatched and impressed to Meira, who's Wher had been killed in the last attack. Jingth and her rider became Selentias's third Queenpair. Not only that but an ex-Greenrider Impressed again, marking him the first ever to reImpress. The entire Weyr was awed and shocked at the same time.
A Gather could not have been so well placed for the Weyr's moral. During the festivities, T'rid disappears and Cornith Betweens. He becomes the first of the disappearances. As if the disappearing people were not enough, a fever swept through the Southern Continent, killing a percent of the population and taking Weyrleader K'roi with it. At this time Kaegan was carrying a child (K'roi's in fact), the conception was an accident brought about by her Salamandyr's runlust. Being so busy she let going Between slip her mind. When she found out she was pregnant the Goldrider couldn't bring herself to abort the child and decided to carry him through term. Her son was born June 19 of the Turn 3013. Although soon after Millieth rose once again, this time being caught by S'rei's Salenth. The Bronzerider was approached by Benden's new Weyrleader and offered an alliance. After much thought was put into the decision, Selenitas made a tentative alliance with the Weyr that had once done it so much damage. This of course, would not be good news to Fort once it reached their ears.
Millieth's clutch of fourteen hatched in the very begining of 3014. The Turn started out well, until the River was poisoned with fellis. Numerous Dragons and dagonic lifeforms died from the poisoning, and Junior Weyrleader succumbed to an brutal attack, loosing most of his memory in the process. There was a scramble to identify the source, but none turned up. Hepaticath rose and Ka'ry's Ciceroth caught her, much to the amnesiac Bronzerider's consternation. Apparently he was not happy in the least about winning again, especially since his memories were hazy about every thing after a certain point a very long time ago.
High Reaches Weyr was destroyed by Fort Weyr in the attempt to irradicate any loose ends they had left in the open. The riders who managed to escape flee to Selenitas in hopes of gaining sanctuary. Fort, finding out about the riders who left the destruction alive, attacks Selenitas after the Weyr refuses to give up the refugees. But Selenitas, with the team work of their wings, holds their own and repulses the Fortian attack. Less Selenitasites died in this attack than in any of the others. Because of this attack, the Wings were redesigned by Weyrleader S'rei structuring them into different classes. Miles, a wing for training. Immunis a Threadfighting wing. Centurio a wing who divided their time between Threadfighting and training for battle. Ephemerae a wing soley devoted to fighting. And finally Legatus. Little is known about that wing other than its highly specialized and the riders are hand picked by the Wingleader for certain skills and purposes.
Selenitas should have taken the freezing winter and boiling summer as a portent for the Turn 3015. The Turn began as others of its kind had, offering promises of hatchling and new riders. Jingth had Risen and clutched, caught by Brown Dsoleth and his Rider, the clutch was small but worthy. But neither the Weyr, nor, the new Weyrlings had time to rejoyce. For soon after Selenitas was attacked by an unknown force. Swiftly the Weyr was taken. Kai, Kaegan's son, was one of the first people to be captured. He was used as an assurance for Kaegan's cooperation. For no matter how much she had grown, in spirit and defiance, the safety of one's son struck chords with every mother. She had no choice, perhaps just maybe, if there had been a way to repulse the attack despite Kai... she might have taken that route. But as it stood, none of her Wings could stand against the Military proficiency of the Wastelanders. In the end, she was forced to get Millieth to sound the surrender to all of Selenitas Weyr to avoid a mass slaughter. Many good Riders died that day and many, thank Faranath above, escaped. Including her Junior Weyrwoman and the Legatus Wing. If the Goldrider and other evacuees could be in better hands, she knew of none.
Meetings with Ja'kin, the Weyrleader of the Wastelanders, lead to compromises and concessions. New rules were formed and some of the old ones were defended to the best of Kaegan's abilities. Not a master manipulator like some Goldriders in the past, Kaegan did her best to preserve what she could of what Selenitas had been. With S'rei, Meira and Ka'rys gone, the Weyrwoman had to stand reletively alone against Ja'kin when it came down to it. Needless to say none of the Selenitasians were terribly accepting of the Wastelander's new rule, but to survive, they had to. With no news of the escapees, Selenitas had to move on. Millieth rose and was caught by Ja'kin's Demotaeth, further sealing the union between Wasteland and Selenitas. But her clutche's hatching was bittersweet. The eldest Queen of Selenitas produced a shimmering gold egg in addition to the multicolored ones of its brothers and sisters. When the day came for these eggs to hatch, the air around the arena was tense enough to cut with a knife. Neither man nor rodent was not aware of it. As with every hatching, there were those Dragonettes with mutations, and those that had none. But the (mostly) unexpected happened at the end of the hatching. The four who hatched out with debilitating mutations were suddenly and viciously culled. The violence of the attack from the Wastelanders called both Selenitas dragons and humans into a rage, including the raging Golden Mother. Kaegan fought Millieth, knowing something like this was going to happen, reining her in and putting a stop to the fighting. Too late for the hatchings and a severely injured Behruth, the Queenpair managed to call the Dragons and their riders off before more death could be bestowed. Shaken and horrified, Selenitas moved on as best it could. Taking solace in the fact that the new Queen survived, though she had bonded to a... peculiar woman. Kaegan had managed to warn Caden before everything unfolded, that the Wastelanders probably had plans to manipulate her... it was all she could do. For now.
Hyphen held a Gather, but not even the festivities could stave away misfortune. Reports and stories told Kaegan of the Wastelanders finding and executing some of the Riders, her Riders, that had escaped during the original seige. Ka'rys's name was prominent among them. Kaegan feared for the survival of the Legatus Wing and the rest of the exiles... but there was hope. Ka'rys's wingsecond was a compitent Brownrider who, as far as she remembered, had been loyal to the Bronzerider. Perhaps almost to a fault. Meira was bright, if she was alive she would help and as would S'rei, if he were alive. She prayed they would remain safe, long enough to somehow return to them. Kaegan proceeded to control her portion of the Selenitas domain, nothing that could even remotely be considered Domestic escaped her grasp. Reports of stolen tithes kept her hopes up, despite the response of increased patrols.
What she had not expected, now almost a Turn to the day that Wasteland took over, was Ja'kin stepping down as Weyrleader. Whether it was politics or personal reasons, she did not know... but now she was facing a whole new type of predator. H'nes. If they could achieve the uneasy truce that she and Ja'kin had been able to form over the Turn they had worked together, she would count herself lucky. Turning her eyes to the future, Kaegan can only see a distant, clouded path before her.
3017-3019
The Earthquake at Selenitas happened, then the rejoining of Selenitas and Burimyu. Within all the chaos, Kaegan made sure that the Weyr and all its inhabitants were well taken care of, and drafted up new tithing plans now that they were located at a secret location. Nitrath's first clutch hatched soon after Kai turned five and the incident that had occured was quickly delt with and settled. When the final leg of the Dragon War began, the Goldrider decided that it was finally time to start training in combat. After all the fighting in the North was over, Kaegan and Millieth attended and took part in the Summit. The Goldpair tried to fight for more Weyr rights but in the end, all of the backers were outvoted. They returned home quite upset and very unsatisfied.
3020-3023
Between dealing with a Weyr, training in weaponry and a young rambuncious boy, Kaegan somehow survived. Fortunately she didn't have to help setting up Inverness, at least for the most part. She sent provisions, supplies and Riders when they needed them the most. In the last four turns she had been practicing hand to hand, knife fighting and archery, but Kaegan was forced to quit the more strainous things when she broke her arm... right after Dash won one of Mouse's Runs... and then a few weeks later found out she was pregnant. Having been born Holderfolk, the Weyrwoman wasn't able to bring herself to abort the baby. Though she continued to train until it wasn't safe for her pregnancy, switching to less exhausting things that still kept her limber. Kai, strangely enough, was excited that he was going to have a sibling. He wanted to be like Riaren and Teri.
Fortunately for her once Inanae was born, K'ian of Bronze Romeoth wasn't adverse to helping out. In fact, he seemed to want to help out as much as possible. It was nice, having someone else to switch off of taking care of the little one instead of having to raise her fatherless like Kai had been. Kai at first was disappointed that Inanae was a girl, but after a while he took to his little sister very nicely. Though he disliked it when she tries to follow him around everywhere. Kaegan picked up her training after Inanae was old enough to get a good nights sleep.
Now she's leaner and meaner looking that she used to be, openly carrying a knife on her belt on occasion and hiding others around her person (of course, not when around her little girl). But she was in for another surprise when K'ian's unknown son Ranthian appeared in 3023. Giving Inanae another half Brother.
Dragon
Name: Millieth
Color: Golden (Queen)
Age: 17
Physical Appearance: Dark Gold, almost an antique you might say, Millieth looks like a polished piece of jewelry. She is a large Queen, her length balancing out to about 41 and a half feet in length, but she certainly isn't the largest female Pern has seen. Unlike most other dragons, Millieth has a completely undesturbed hide, no anomalies in the metallic coloring. Even her wing membraines are the same color as her body, making it seem as though everything was solid as a newly dug nugget. She proudly keeps up the image that those of her kind are beautiful, but undoubtlably deadly, and one look at her gleaming teeth or off white talons would remind anyone of that.
Huge, long wings support the Queen's frame, beating any Bronze's wingspan in size. And if size was everything, Millieth would win any contest against a lower color, and even maybe one or two Golds. Not the skinnest Gold of the lot, since she tends to love her plump bovine, Millieth is a little bit on the chunky side. The small layer (by dragon standards) of fat only slightly covers up the thicker armor of muscle underneith, the one that allows Queen's their extended amount of endurance. Unfortunately for Millieth, because of her history of drugs, the side effects cut into her flying endurance, though the muscles are otherwise untouched. But coming from a fighting Weyr, gives the female an upper advantage in flying formations and fighting if need be, it was a loss for Benden when she left.
Personality: Millieth has a slightly impatient streak, and coupled with her younger age its not a mix you want to agitate. In fact, at the hatching in which she had impressed Kaegan, the young Queen fought off a green clutchmate who intended to impress her mine. Successfully proving her dominance over her sister, Millieth got Kaegan all to herself. Growing up at Benden did not make her feeble willed, but increased her possessiveness and protective nature toward her Mine. The Queen will never trust anyone from Benden and certainly will never let anyone from that sharding weyr fly her. Kaegan is the most important thing to Millieth, and if anyone even dares lay a hand on her, they will be facing the wrath of a very large and very angry Gold.
Although the Queen can be rough and constantly irritated, Millieth also has a quieter, nicer side which is reserved only for Kaegan and those she truly cares for and trusts. If Millieth and her rider ever find someone they both can care for indisputably, you can be assured that Millieth would be over possessive of all three.
Firelizard/ Flit:
Name: Azaran
Color: Bronze
Age: 16 & 1/2
Physical Appearance: Azaran is a shiny, almost brass colored bronze, although his hide is darker by a few pigments. Has a long scar that curves down his hindquarters and down his tail where a knife got him when he tried to protect Kaegan in one of the seiges.
Personality: Zar has a stronger personality that that of his Mine. He is strong, snappy and very outspoken for a firelizard...

Kaegan has scars up her arms, on the back of her neck and on her back from being thrown into the fire.
