Name: Sel’n (Previously Selarin)
Age: 41
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Bi-sexual (preference leaning towards men)
Rank: Dragonrider
Birthday: May 10th, 2976
Family
Mother: Selna of Green Bryth (59)
Father: M’rin (Previously Mavrin) of Bronze Arechyth (70) (Deceased)
Physical Appearance:
Sel’n stands at 6’ 2” and has a easy air about him. He is muscular with a lean and wiry build, more like a runners build than anything else. He has dark blue eyes, which are normally devoid of expression, and black hair that is of medium length and grows in unruly waves. In recent turns his hair has begun to gray giving it a salt and pepper look. His face is gaunt and a bit narrow but not unattractive. He is always clean shaven and dressed well, his preferred clothing being his flight gear but when not in flight gear, a simple dark colored shirt and breeches of a neutral color like brown. He takes pride in his appearance and is always clean.
The brown rider has only limited of his left arm after the tendons and nerves were severed in a fight with a bronzerider during Senior Queen Grenostith’s rise in 3008. Although the appendage has regained enough strength to do simple things like dress, bathe, ect, more strenuous things like lifting large and heavy objects or using the arm in battle are mostly past his ability. This handicap has caused him much frustration due to the disadvantage it puts him in. The frustration and pain driving him to drink on occasion.
In the years since coming to Selenitas Sel’n has gained a few new scars. During the siege Sel’n was stabbed in the thigh and although the injury has long since healed he still has a jagged scar as a reminder. Besides that his most prominent scar is a long messy ropelike one across his abdomen, gained when he was kidnapped for organ harvesting in 3013.
Personality:
Charismatic, fun loving, highly ambitious, and a bit of a flirt. That was who Sel’n used to be in his younger turns. Life and misfortune have drastically changed the brownrider into the man he is today. Sel’n now is primarily a loner by choice. A no nonsense sort of person. Mildly depressive and certainly pessimistic. He strives to gain respect but does not resort to violence to achieve it. The brownrider is certainly not one who likes to be disrespected and especially not by riders much younger than he himself. However when he is Sel'n is more likely to ignore it rather than retaliate. He has come to the conclusion that arguing is a waste of time. When speaking he is often blunt and prefers not to engage in long conversations. The only time this isn’t true is if he actively likes the person (a rarity). Someone he respects or likes is often welcomed a bit more warmly and even sometimes encouraged into conversation. On the occasion even a spark of his old playfulness rises to the surface, however you should count yourself lucky if you experience such.
Sel’n has a deeply ingrained desire to be useful, whether it is teaching the young, fighting thread or managing something else, the man always does the best job he can. This almost unconscious need to be useful usually means Sel’n strives to be active in weyr life. He often participates wherever and whenever he is needed. If something needs done and Sel’n is available he will be all to happy to accept the job no matter what it entails. In fact he is often at his happiest when he is busy.
His intimate relationships are almost always kept short and sweet and he does not linger long after dragon rises. His preferences swing more towards males than women, which is a perhaps a bit odd considering his dragon’s color. Sel’n tends to avoid those bedmates who try to form any emotional attachment to him. He basically has a deep fear of commitment to anything other than his dragon. Perhaps he feels he is incapable or unworthy of love and acceptance, or maybe there is another cause that no one has yet been able to touch on.
The man is also a bit of a drunkard. Liking his wine a little bit too much. He frequently uses it as a crutch to temper and lighten his more depressive moods and it will not be uncommon to see the man with a glass of wine. Or an entire skin. Thankfully he does not often drink so much in public preferring his deeper binges to be in the privacy of his weyr or with his few and far between friends.
History:
2976-2988 Birth, Childhood
Selarin was born in Fort weyr. His mother Selna of Bryth was an extremely promiscuous greenrider who frequently used her children to try and control their fathers. However after spending a mere three months with the infant Selarin she gave him to a wet nurse. Solely because it was obvious that the man she knew to be the father had little to no interest in yet another child. Selarin’s father M’rin of Arechyth was a bronzerider who would not acknowledge his child’s existence due in large part to the identity and ways of his mother. Because of this Selarin was raised like the majority of weyrbrats, by the creche and lower cavern staff until he was of age to become a candidate at twelve.
2989-2999 Candidacy, Stolen eggs, Impression, Weyrling
Selarin stood for clutch after clutch from the age of twelve. Turn after turn the boy was left standing. Finally the young man was beginning to despair that he would never be worthy enough for a dragon of his own. Finally however, like all dry spells, something had to break. It was not a Fort clutch that bore Selarin’s dragon though. Rather his brown was one of hatchlings from the Benden clutch that was stolen by Fort in 2996. He impressed brown Kaaoloth at age twenty, the golden hued Benden born brown stumbling his way across the sands to flop at the feet of his Fort born bonded. After impression Sel’n’s weyrlinghood was a tad abnormal. Military style training and strict rules and regulations were chained to the class. The weyr was embroiled in what would turn into a turns long, seemingly unending, war.
3000-3010 F’ur, Wingleader, Grenostith’s Flight, Demoted, Death of Fort Weyrleaders, Defection from Fort
Sel’n took to his life as a dragonrider relishing the structure and uniformity of it all. It gave him direction and purpose. Wanting to prove himself the young driven brownrider found himself rising in rank. Eventually he joined a fighting wing and met a young bluerider named F’ur. The two became very close and eventually became lovers. Although, because of Fort’s extreme disapproval of homosexual pairs, the two were forced to carry on their relationship in secret. Their relationship lasted for three turns before F’ur was reassigned to D’loro’s fighting wing and Sel’n remained were he was. Sel’n became rather jealous and distant with his secret weyrmate and in the end it proved to open up a large rift between them. Things came to an end when Sel’n started a rumor about F’ur. It was an attempt to maybe get his weyrmate demoted. Not hurt him. But in the end his lover ended up with a trip to the interrogators Fort was well known for. And Sel’n ended up losing the man he loved. Still that same ambition that drove the man to betray F’ur drove him on past the bluerider’s leaving.
That ambition eventually resulted in Sel’n and Kaaoloth becoming a Fort Wingleader at 30 turns of age. The man had no desire to climb the ladder higher and was content with his station in life. Kaaoloth it seemed had other plans. In 3008 Fort Senior Queen Grenostith rose and Kaaoloth rose to chase. Trying to prove himself better than the bronze pursuers the brown foolishly antagonized a bronze opponent. Kaaoloth became embroiled in a violent confrontation with the bronze mid-flight and injured his left foreleg so badly that it had to be amputated to save the beast’s life. Sel’n was also injured dueling with the bronze dragon’s rider. Due to this fight Sel’n and Kaaoloth were swiftly demoted. He and his dragon were often sent on senseless errands and given the most demeaning tasks as punishment for Kaaoloth’s reckless actions. Despite this Sel’n couldn’t blame his dragon. Kaaoloth was just too important to him. Sel’n could not, and would not, bear any ill will against his brown. So the pair struggled on. Trying to redeem their names in some fashion.
When Benden invaded the weyr in 3010 Sel’n fought to defend his home, and Kaaoloth despite his injury, rose to the occasion as well. Both halves of the pair more than willing to prove their loyalty to Fort’s Weyrleaders. However the collective efforts of Fort were not enough to save their beloved leaders and the pair lost their lives to Benden. Weeks after the death of the Weyrleaders, Sel’n in a deep depression became fed up with his lot in life. With Fort’s leadership tentative at best, and Sel’n in a bad place it was all too easy to convince Kaaoloth to leave their home for good. Sel’n and Kaaoloth left under cover of darkness.
3011- 3012 Arrival at Selenitas, Weyrlingmaster, Posioning, Seige, Fort holds Main Hall Temporarily Hostage
Living as rouges, of a sort, for around a turn after they defected from Fort, Sel’n and Kaaoloth used southern beaches and forests for food and warmth. They avoided any riders they happened to glimpse and were generally comfortable. Still they had a nagging need for companionship and purpose, finally they decided to try their luck at Selenitas both wishing for a better future. In 3011 they joined Selenitas weyr. At first they kept to themselves as they adjusted to life in their new weyr. As they began to accept life in their new home they became more involved in the weyr. Sel’n even going so far as to take the position of Weyrlingmaster alongside brown rider I’fael. Things where peaceful for awhile and then suddenly disaster struck.
Senior Weyrwoman Shmee was murdered. Poisonings began to run rampant at the weyr. Sel’n blamed the current Weyrleader, Bronze rider T’rid for their predicament. Soon the tithes where cut and the poisoning all but stopped, but Sel’n stayed vigilant. Things began to settle down again after the poison scare and for awhile the only thing the brownrider worried about was his unruly Tidal weyrling class. Two riders in particular made his life a quite a bit miserable, R’wign of Checkoth being the main instigator with M’ta of Behruth running a close second.
All to soon it seemed Millieth rose again, making Kaegan the Senior Weyrwoman in Shmee’s stead. The event and upcoming hatching should have been joyous. But good things at Selenitas seemed to be heralded by tragedy. True to the pattern of sorrow, came the Siege of Selenitas. Sel’n became involved in the battle at the weyrling barracks, in an attempt to protect the young riders he had grown to love. The battle was a rollercoaster and during it Sel’n earned injuries to his arm and thigh. Eventually Selenitas triumphed, due to the death of C’leon and orders to withdraw from Selenitas by Benden Senior Queen Baith. The sudden retreat confused and worried Sel’n however. The attack and sudden withdrawal made no sense to him The wound in his thigh pained the man for awhile after the Siege and he walked with just the trace of a limp for month’s afterward. With the weyr recovering Sel’n threw himself into teaching Millieth’s newly hatched weyrlings. He planned to introduce dragon fighting lessons to the young ones. His reasoning? Fort and Benden where still out there. It was only a matter of time before the weyr was again attacked.
True to this prediction another attack did come but not it was not of the scale of the Siege. Fort simply took over the main hall and demanded a wing of their riders be returned to them. Upon receiving news that the defecting riders where not present at Selenitas, the wing withdrew leaving a small trail of death in their wake. The attack angered Sel’n and only served to make him more paranoid. Perhaps this fact was fortunate however because his paranoia would soon play a role in saving his life.
3013 Attempted Egg Theft, Start of Disappearances, Plague, Accidental Death of a Weyrling, Abduction
Not long after the Main hall was attacked Hepaticath rose in her maiden flight and it was rumored that a queen egg graced the sands of the latest clutch. The rumor seemed to carry father than the weyr itself and not soon after the eggs had hardened enough to allow a possible touching a small group of foreign dragons infiltrated the sands. Their objective was clear. They intended to steal the queen egg. The battle that ensued on the sands was short and swift, but still devastating. All the attempted thieves lost their lives as well as few Selenitas dragons who sought to protect Hepaticath’s eggs.
Despite the drama of their hardening the eggs hatched weeks later. The clutch held a few surprises. Gold Jingth impressed to Meira, a pregnant wherhandler who had recently lost her wher in the Fort attack on the main hall. Still more surprising was K’lir, a greenrider who lost his dragon Calistoth when the unknown dragons invaded the sands, re-impressed to a different green named Baoth. This impression was the one Sel’n was most surprised by, for he would rather die than go on living without Kaaoloth. The older rider couldn’t imagine being bonded to another other dragon.
Soon after the hatching mysterious disappearances began to pop up all over the weyr. It started at a gather with former Weyrleader T’rid’s bronze, Corinth, being the first to between suddenly in a cry of sorrow. T’rid’s body was nowhere to be found despite numerous searches. Soon after many other riders and dragons began to disappear without a trace. Sel’n found these disappearances particularly worrisome and his paranoia hit an all time high. Things only got worse however. Almost coinciding with the disappearing people, a plague hit the weyr hard. The sickness was particularly memorable for Sel’n due to the fact that he inadvertently killed one of his weyrlings.
D’nar of Bronze Olanreth fell ill to the plague and in a fevered rage, attacked Sel’n near the barracks on day. As he grappled with the young man, the bronzeweyrling’s confused dragon charged Sel’n with the intent to kill the older man and protect his bonded. Kaaoloth rushed to intervene and grappled with the young bronze. After a struggle the half grown Olanreth eventually was able to clamp his jaws around the older Kaaoloth’s neck. If Sel’n didn’t do something fast Kaaoloth would die. Unable to stop the enraged young man Sel’n stabbed at D’nar, intending to try and save Kaaoloth. The blow was intended injure D’nar and shock Olanreth into releasing his Kaaoloth. However Sel’n didn’t account for D’nar driving forward in a final attempt to end the fight. The blade unintentionally stabbed the young man deep in the chest and D’nar slumped to the ground. Olanreth released Kaaoloth to let out a high and painful keen and leapt between. As Kaaoloth struggled to his feet Sel’n slumped to the ground next to the dead bronzeweyrling in shock and despair. He had just killed one of his own students. A deep depression followed the incident and, although he knew he had really had no other choice, it pained Sel’n deeply. In a deep depression the man resigned from his place as Weyrlingmaster. He needed to take a break and try and recollect his shattered nerves. Not soon after he and Kaaoloth took a walk on the beach.
The last thing the man remembered was the sand beneath his feet. Weeks later Sel’n woke up in the weyr infirmary with no recollection of what had befallen him. His abdomen had a very new and large scar and he was in quite a weak state. Questions to the healers got him no clear answer, and in reality Sel’n wasn’t sure he wanted to know. Kaaoloth’s terror upon questioning was enough to make the rider drop the subject quickly. What could rile up his brown so bad that he refused to even comment or remember the event? Kaaoloth had never been shaken. Even after the fighting at Fort. How long had be been ill? Quite a long time it seemed if Kaaoloth and Vanity’s obvious enthusiasm to his waking was any indicator. It seemed his mindmates had been just about catatonic during his infirmary stay. That neither had jumped between was a small miracle. Sel’n really hadn’t been expected to survive it seemed. Vanity and Kaaoloth where pale imitations of their normal selves. Both where underweight and pale. The first thing Sel’n was going to do upon release was make this up to them. The next, try and piece his shattered life back together.
3014 River poisoning, Fort attack, Fellis addiction, Demoted from Weyrlingmaster
As he recovered from his hazy abduction Sel’n once again picked up the reins of Weyrlingmaster. Not long after life again started to settle a little the Selenitas river was poisoned and quite a few lost their lives. It was obvious that the little scenario was leading up to something big and true to that thought only a few weeks later Fort attacked and wiped out High Reaches, the riders fleeing to Selenitas for protection. Needless to say Fort followed the escapees with demands that Selenitas turn over the High Reaches riders as well as Sel’n to them. It made absolutely no sense to the brownrider. What did Fort want with him? He defected turns ago. None of it made any sense.
Sel’n ended up at the hatching grounds fighting Fort alongside his comrades. It seemed that Selenitas had decided not to cave to Fort’s demands and instead stand up to them. The battle wasn’t very long but it was harsh, many becoming injured, the hatching grounds themselves being caught on fire. Kaaoloth in fact ended up badly burned when the pair betweened in the path of dragon fire to rescue a band of silly weyrlings who had decided to try and escape the grounds on foot with parties to injured to evacuate between. In the end Fort was repelled and the reason for the attack became known. Fort had been behind the disappearances. Using people as live experiments for organ transplants and Sel’n had been one of a few who had managed to escape his abduction.
Feeling in part responsible for the attack, as well as being injured himself and dealing with Kaaoloth’s pain on top of his own, proved to be too much for Sel’n. The man took to using fellis at first to help his own pain and then it quickly became a crutch. The older rider started to become lax in his duties and the drug started to control his life. Finally Kaaoloth had had enough and with his brown threatening to between Sel’n looked to his friend Kalierre of Phremath for help. The healer helped the older man to overcome his addiction but due to his reliance on the drug Sel’n was stripped from his position as Weyrlingmaster and placed on another wing where he could be closely monitored.
3015 Wingleader of Miles, Wasteland Takeover, Finding S’rei, Cave in, Burimyu
Eventually Sel’n overcame his addiction to fellis and was given his own wing. He and Kaaoloth again became Wingleaders of the Miles wing. The wing served as a first step for the newly graduated weyrlings as well as a type of shape up wing for those rider’s who needed a kick in the ass so to speak. Sel’n and Kaaoloth led their wing well and life again started to fall into an easy rhythm. That is until prisoners from Benden were delivered to Selenitas.
Sel’n didn’t much trust these prisoners but in time the small group of them seemed to be fitting into Selenitas well enough. That was when it happened. The prisoners had actually been part of a rebel weyr called Wasteland. A few months after the prisoners came the rebel weyr attacked and invaded Selenitas in the early morning hours. The invasion was swift and there was little room for escape. Sel’n, remembering a earlier conversation with the Weyrleader S’rei, was forced to abandon the majority of his wing as he betweened to Lighttower Hold in an attempt intercept S’rei and prevent the bronzer from returning to Selenitas. Thus saving the man’s life.
The two men ended up traveling together for a few months and eventually got trapped in a cave in, due to Sel’n’s awesome shrieking powers, from which they were rescued by the exiled riders from Selenitas. It seemed the exiles had rediscovered an old weyr and had been living there secretly for months. And so Sel’n and Kaaoloth came to reside at Burimyu.
Current
Sel’n and Kaaoloth fit themselves in well enough at Burimyu, working with the other riders to stay alive and keep the abandoned weyr going. They managed to escape with the rest when Selenitas discovered the exiles presence at the Hyphen gather and since then the brown pair have been laying pretty low and striving to make themselves useful. When finally Burimyu’s single queen Jingth rose and was caught by Brown Chaoth the pair were approached by the Burimyu council and given the title of Weyrlingmaster again. As the eggs hardened on the sands Kaaoloth and Sel’n looked forward to the day when they would hatch and they would once again be responsible for teaching the new weyrling pairs. Their happiness however was overshadowed by tragedy when Senior Queenrider Meira was attacked and killed by some unknown predator. Jingth, bound by the eggs on the sands, could not follow her rider in death until the day her offspring finally broke shell.
Finally the day of the hatching arrived and with each new rider pair born hope and yet sorrow has settled itself in Sel’n’s heart. The rider vows to do his best by Jinth and the weyrlings he and his brown are now charged with. But he can’t help thinking that the fate of their new Queenless weyr seems pretty dark…
Dragon
Name: Kaaoloth
Color: Brown B28B00
Age: 21 turns
Physical Appearance:
Kaaoloth is a very large brown, easily as large as a small bronze. He is very bulky and muscular which makes his ability to perform aerial maneuvers moderate at best. His wings are very large and strongly muscled, able to support his massive frame. He is missing his left forelimb having critically injured it in a fight with a bronze during Grenostith’s 3008 flight. The wound was too serious to save the limb and the appendage had to be amputated to save the browns life. Due to this Kaaoloth prefers to spend nearly all his time in the air as he is uncomfortable and clumsy on the ground. When on the ground he likes to keep his wings partly unfurled to maintain balance and walks with a strange hopping gait. Despite his deformity Kaaoloth’s mental state hasn’t suffered a bit.
His hide is a rich golden brown which darkens slightly at his underbelly. Other than that slight darkening he has no noticeable markings.
Personality:
Kaaoloth is a stubborn and headstrong dragon. He has his own opinion about things and isn’t afraid to show it. The does have a temper but does not often display it unless someone greatly displeases or hurts his Bonded. He rises to chase quite often, and in mating flights he is fierce and pushy, seeking to take advantage of any weakness he sees in his opponents. Kaaoloth favors queens and more violent greens although he will chase the occasional mild mannered green if he hasn't chased in awhile.
Despite Kaaoloth’s injury he strives to be useful to his weyr and has a strong sense of duty. He is fond especially of the young hatchlings in the weyr. In fact he would very much like sire his own some day. In the browns leisure time he prefers to be in the air due to his discomfort on the ground. Although a bit of sunning is also a favored activity. Despite his origins as an original Benden clutch egg he is fiercely protective and loyal to his Fort born bonded. Kaaoloth loves Sel’n above everything else in life and always does his best to improve the riders lot in life. He puts his bonded’s comfort before his at all times.
Kaaoloth has a strong dislike for bronzes due to their pushy and bullish behavior in Fort and seeks to avoid them at all times. Since coming to Selenitas however he has grown to accept the presence of most bronzes, and regards them with much more acceptance then he did before.
Pets
Cunning Blue
Name: Loki
Species: Salamandyr
Hatched: October 3017
Looks to: Sel’n
Color Codes: 00ffff-Primary ; 283A90-Secondary
Appearance: Camouflage blue. So perhaps it’s a little strange that the blotches that resemble camouflage are the color of the sky, but maybe genetics were not quite so random as all that considering he has not one but two pairs of transparent wings that frankly are that of an insect rather than a draconid. There are no bones supporting them, and they can be flapped at such a rate as to fly at dizzying speeds, though they will take some time to learn how to control and are especially prone to tearing. This blue’s body is built to best utilize these wings, small and long with a thin tail that can be used to help guide him. His forelimbs, too, are a bit longer than normal and can be used to better grab and carry things while in flight. On the ground he is quite lacking, however; his muscles simply aren’t made for the landbound scurrying of his brethren.
Personality: This blue is nothing if not sharp. He tends to speak very directly in just one or two words, but that’s all he needs to get his point across and demonstrate a clear grasp of whatever situation is at hand. And if half the time his utterances tend to be either sarcastic or mocking? Well, at least he treats everyone with equal disdain. That’s not to say he can’t be sweet when he’s in the business of catching flies (with honey), but you can be fairly certain that if this male is being nice he’s probably after something. That said, he’s remarkably willing to fetch anything people ask for (and some things they don’t), especially if they’re just making the comment idly and the words can be misconstrued in funny ways. Something of a prankster, he.
That isn’t to say that this male is cruel. In fact, he tends to take the side of anyone or anything that is being bullied and put his not inconsiderable wits to the task of making the aggressor wish he’d never gotten up this morning. He also Chases females who don’t seem to have that many chasers. Yes, it’s a Chase out of pity given the blue doesn’t actually have a strong drive to mate, but she doesn’t have to know that. Also, perhaps due to his somewhat perverse nature, this blue will occasionally Run. It’s not a joke, so obviously he experiences the biological need (if somewhat less often than his green sisters) but it is rather hard to believe that this blue who so does enjoy throwing people off just coincidentally happens to be one of the only – if not the only – blue who regularly Runs, too. Or Rises, in his case. Still, despite the difficulty presented to Chasers, he will only take a flit for a mate if there’s no other option.

~ DIED IN SELENITAS EARTHQUAKE~
Name: Vanity
Species: Salamandyr
Color: Green #00AB18
Gender: Female
Age: 5 turns
Looks to: Sel'n
Mated to: Bronze Lust of Kalierre
Physical Description:
For all appearances, this salamandyr is a very normal green. Built slender and delicate, she's conventionally pretty as far as her physique goes. Complete with dainty wings that are blatantly more for show than functionality, this little female is everything one would expect a salamandyr to be. Even her eyes, which are slightly wide for a 'mandyr, add to the allure, giving her an almost innocent appearance. Her coloring is rich, yellow-green with darker splotches that add depth to her appearance. Numerous hunter green spots line down her back, allowing for perfect camouflage in the wilderness. Leaves and tree branches are the ideal hiding place for this female. Her underbelly is a blurred, messy green color, like grass stains. When light hits her hide just right, she reflects like an emerald, multifaceted and vivid, with varying hues of green that only emphasize her picture-perfect appearance.
Personality:
Literally the perfect proof that looks can be deceiving, one will never meet a green with more ego than this salamandyr. Perfectly content to boss around other creatures (regardless of color - she's fearless), there is no missing her presence in a crowd. She's rather loud, and perfectly happy to broadcast what she has to say. Part of what makes this a less-than-endearing trait is that she's verbose, particularly for a green, able to form out close to full sentences when she gets focused... and her statements are usually quite condescending. There's no denying this green is intelligent, she'll be the first one to tell you so. In addition to being clever, she's excessively vain and it won't be unusual to find her preening. Other females are unwelcome simply because they might contest with her beauty, and she likes reflective surfaces best so that she can admire herself. Woe betide the fool who doesn't worship her every movement.

” Not all human souls but only the pious ones are divine. Once separated from the body, and after the struggle to acquire piety, which consists in knowing God and injuring none, such a soul becomes all intelligence.”
[/i][/size]Appearance: Camouflage blue.

DECEASED
