Name: Bela
Age: 28 (2995)
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Rank: Greenrider
Appearance: For a woman, Bela is on the petite side. At five-foot-one she is anything but imposing, even having been described as "dinky" by her cousin on numerous occasions; certainly the description is accurate. She is built slender as well, with very little in the way of feminine curves despite being fully mature. Some would likely even use the word boyish in description of her. Certainly her athletic lifestyle has come back to haunt her, for she is more muscular than most girls her age let alone size and no part of her is breakable, despite being small. Her face is slender, bringing prominence to slightly large eyes, and her lips are full; these two features are among the most feminine parts of her appearance. Coupled with a nose on the smaller side, Bela would hardly be considered homely, though whether or not she actually qualifies as anything more than typical is in the eye of the beholder.
Brown-black hair frames Bela's face. Cut at uneven angles, the longest strands fall to her elbows, while the shortest shear around her eyes. To keep her hair from becoming a nuisance, she typically wears it tied back and out of her face, be it braided or a simple runnertail. The color is so dark that it appears to be true black in most lighting; only highlights of brown emphasize the concept that it is not. Her eyes are a direct contrast to the dark hair, as they are naturally a grayish blue, cool in appearance and lighter than most would expect. Bela considers them her finest feature, and the combination of her dark locks with the pale eyes against her naturally fair skin can be eye-shocking at first; certainly the contrast is vivid enough to merit notice.
Due to being from Southern Hold where shells are common, Bela wears an elaborate amount of jewelry. Vibrant colors and made of shells, pearls and beads, it is not uncommon to see her wearing at least one necklace. Her ears are pierced and often have shells dangling from them as well. Her color preferences are to the vivid, the eye-shocking, second glances needed and eyebrow-raising combinations. She likes to startle, likes to surprise, and if her tastes runs a little eccentric, so be it; as far as she's concerned, as long as it's pretty, it goes. Her clothing doesn't even necessarily have to match in most people's eyes. It's not as though she's trying to impress them anyway.
Personality: Fiercely independent is the best description of Bela. Perfectly happy to be alone, it is not uncommon for her to spend entire hours sitting silently in some secluded area working on something - be it studying, her chores, or making jewelry. She does not want nor require the company of other people, and excessive crowds (such as at Gathers) tend to agitate her. While she is fully capable of holding a conversation and being perfectly charismatic when she bothers to try, she tends to prefer to be approached, rather than doing the approaching. Inside, she's just as happy when she's alone as she is with people, after all. She's also very active, and it is not uncommon for Bela to take it upon herself to make typically boring chores more interesting; finding her washing dishes and singing, or conversing with a pan, is not at all strange. This can lead to the opinion that she's extremely eccentric (she does so love to talk to and name inanimate objects), but since Bela is not the kind of person to care what the common man thinks of her, she's never been particularly bothered.
However, she is not without a natural charisma. Coupled with her natural affinity for singing, it truly is a wonder the girl is not a harper; she is excellent at putting on a show and entertaining others if she tries. In the past this ability has been used to try and sell her jewelry as well as entertain younger cousins on birthday parties. Bold and brave, it isn't exactly strange for her to jump up on tables and start singing in front of an entire hold. Much of this stems from a natural arrogance and apathy toward the opinion of others. She believes she's amazing, so what does it matter what others think? Nevertheless, she's also impatient; while she is happy to entertain once or twice for a special event, she would never have had the tolerance for harper training and dealing with people on a regular basis. Between the fact that she would rather be left alone and her sarcastic streak (which sometimes comes slipping out when she's agitated; since her nerves can be fried by small talk this is not unusual), it takes a special kind of person to be Bela's friend - but to those she does actually make friends with, there's little she wouldn't do for a smile.
History: Bela was born one stormy evening, the first child of a fishing pair from Southern Hold; about a month premature, but still healthy. Bela barely survived the trauma of birth, but unfortunately her mother did not. Bellandie was an exceptionally small woman and due to complications, she bled out before Bela was even brought into the world. The birth was a bitter-sweet event for her father Darin, who was grateful to see his only child healthy and bitter at losing the woman he loved. Darin was a fisherman and his response to his lady's death was to spend an excessive amount of time at sea, the child herself often left with various babysitters who treated them very well. Even at a young age, it became obvious near immediately that Bela was on the dominant side for a baby; she would always cry exceptionally loud when she didn't like something, and make it clear she would not budge on her opinions. Stubborn from the very beginning.
Despite ger father working a lot, Bela maintained a surprisingly good relationship with him, and after his period of mourning passed (all while they were too young to see) it became common for Darin to bring back excessive amounts of shells for her to play with. Bela learned from one of the hold ladies how to make different jewelry with it, and from the age of five turns became something of a little saleswoman; often was it that she would go around trying to peddle her creations, and since her color combinations and preferences were unusual, she made a surprising amount of profit. One of her cousins would frequently sell her creations at Gathers when she was too young to go, and Bela used the marks she saved up to help her father buy new fishing equipment.
Most of Bela's free time, when she wasn't making jewelry, was spent swimming. She became a powerful swimmer very quickly, too. Her independent streak kept her from spending much - if any - time with the rest of the Hold. Only Bedarin, her cousin and best friend, was welcomed around her and it was not uncommon for her to swim while he sat on a boat nearby and watched her go - back and forth in the waves as if she owned them. Some might have described her as a fish out of water; whatever it was, she was definitely at home in the seas, more so than she ever was with people. Just because she possessed a natural charisma for selling things did not mean she enjoyed crowds. Far from. She was at her happiest when she was alone or with her cousin, be it sitting in the shallows near the Hold or swimming. She was lucky, too, for by the age of sixteen, many of the hold girls were Joining; she, on the other hand, had no such aspirations, and to her good fortune, her father did not push. She made enough marks selling jewelry to get by.
Fate had other plans for Bela, it seemed, for one spring morning she left for a Gather at Blossom Hold to sell her jewelry. There, a Searchrider arrived from Selenitas, talking of a queen flying and a clutch soon to hatch on the Sands. Candidates were needed, he'd said, and from the table where she worked on a particularly fancy necklace, Bela caught his eye. She was one of many to be asked to come back to Selenitas. Leaving meant leaving behind Bedarin (who, to her surprise, was due to be joined to the daughter of another fisher with whom Bedarin worked frequently), and the decision was a hard one. Only knowledge that if she failed to Impress, she could always come home, kept her secure, kept her calm. She agreed with a hint of trepidation, and packed at least two bags worth of her belongings; one of clothes, and one of jewelry to sell when she got to the Weyr. Against her better judgment, and because she (despite the fact that her home hated them) dreamed of Impressing a dragon, she left with the greenrider for Selenitas.
Impressed Zemtinth, was rather aloof from her class. Hid during the Benden Siege. Made life interesting for herself between big events (up to adopter interpretation). Avoided the plague. Wary of alliance. Nearly lost Zemtinth to river poisoning due to almost realizing too late that others were dropping like flies. Hid during Fort attack as well, got chewed out for doing so later, didn't really care. Made herself a pain in the ass for all Wastelanders when they took over. Flipped her shit when dragons were culled. Forced into legit training finally. Earthquake nearly killed her, was knocked out for a couple days after it. Glad for merge of weyrs. Didn't fight in the great war, assigned to Inverness. Incredibly pissy about that still. (Adopter needs to expand on this paragraph <3)
FOR REFERENCE: Zemtinth's hatching (Blooming Flora Clutch, 3011)
Unnoticed because of the hatching of her brother, the Cyclamen Green had snuck among the remaining eggs. No one had noticed her, not even her mother! Oh wasn't she so very crafty, not to get caught! Peeling off from the eggs as her Bluebrother Impressed, waiting for most eyes to be on him, she dashed over to a thick group of girls and shrieked at them. The girls of course in response, screamed. They had not seen her coming, stupid girls they were! But Her's was not stupid. Oh no, no, no! Zemtinth would not pick a prissy sissy girl! Leaping forward and making the girls scatter to one side, the Cyclamen Green circled Bela before pausing with a clawed foot in the air. /Belamine. You can take me to eat now. I had to show those weak ones what they're up against. You are not weak, be happy that you are not./ This green looked as though when she grew up, she wasn't somebody to trifle with. This means you get to write Zemtinth based on this description!
