Cadil sat at one of the tables set up in an area of the Gather, his hands folded neatly in his lap. He was dressed in a fancy gather gown and there was makeup painted across his face. Cadil looked like the perfect young lady, except that his young lady was about to dig into as many pies as she could handle.
He looked up and surveyed the tables. Each one was piled with pies, and there was also a bucket beside each in case the participants overdid it. Grinning, Cadil picked up the cloth provided and tied it around his neck, protecting the front of his dress.
Next he looked over the other people taking their places at the tables. Who would be his competitors?

The undeniable smell of pie had drawn C'ryl's attention. He meandered over to the table that held the source of the scent. Oh it was good. Piles of pie. Everywhere on the tables. The only thing that could happen in a situation like this was...
"Contest," he said aloud. He looked around to see if there were any competitors.
Nearby sat an adolescent woman. Her face was done up and she sat in a pristine fashion. The only thing to hint that she was here to gorge herself on pie was the cloth around her neck to protect her dress. C'ryl almost laughed out loud at the though of a woman downing as many pies as a man. Or at least trying to. He'd never seen such a sight in his life and took his seat across from her.
"You might ruin your makeup with the pies. Are you sure you can handle it?" C'ryl said, offering her the chance to back out before he beat her in a contest, or so he hoped. After he spoke, however, the brownrider noticed that there was something odd about this "woman". She wasn't...developed...like other girls her age.

Star had escaped from G'tor. He was being so boring. What was so interesting about cloth and metal things? They didn't taste good at all. So she had left, gliding and between around the Gather exploring all the new exciting smells. The large food tent smelled particularily good, but something else caught her attention. Pies! Piles and piles of them! G'tor never let her have pie! He said it was bad for her, but what did a human know? They smelled great!
Star glided down and landed on the edge of one of the pies, still out of site of the humans. Surely there were too many for the silly humans to eat. Greedy eyes fixed on her goal, Star dove through one of the gaps in the lattice crust. The crust was no good. It was dry and bland. But the filling, oh! Star slurped up berry juice with gusto. This was delicious! Sweeter than any meat and gooey like blood. Star disappeared beneath a sea of purple pie as she devoured the inside of the pie.
To the casual eye, this pie looked no different from any other. But inside it held a little, white surprise.
((OOC: Whoever wants the Star pie may post finding her. ^_^ Might be disqualified for it, not sure. If you'd like to claim Star ahead of time, let me know or put a message in next post.))

Pie. She wanted a pie ... mmmm, pie. Nothing to soothe the soul like a nice pie, with a hearty dollop of cream on top! Dorava was poking around, attracted by the scent of warm pies, when she came across the contest area. She just looked at it for a moment, before a big grin split her face. "Oh, my! A pie eating contest, eh?" She asked, interested.
She didn't have any delusions ... she knew she didn't have the capacity to win. But hey ... she could eat all the pie she could hold ... and not pay for it! Not to mention it would be a fun thing to do. Or, maybe, did she? It depended on who all joined in. She was a stout girl, and could hold her food. Though her new, red-and-blue dress might constrict her a little bit.
Val twirled up her arm and latched himself around her throat as an impromptu necklace, his little eyes watching with interest as a tail whiter than his own dissappeared into a pie... Pie, pie? He queried, obliqulely.
"Yes, Val. Pie." Dorava replied, not even beginning to understand that Val had been talking to another 'mandyr. She slid into a seat at the table, and grinned at the others there. "Are you ready?" She asked, brows lifting slightly, never noticing as Val unwound from her neck and went scampering across the table toward the pies...

Cadil gave a breezy shrug, smiling at the brownrider. "I'm pretty sure." He gave a dismissive wave of his hand, displaying fingernails painted red. "I have more makeup with me, anyway," he added, pointing to the purse he had slung over the back of the chair.
He grinned when another competitor sat down. He recognized the Healer vaguely from the Weyr. Cadil shot C'ryl a triumphant look--see, he wasn't the only "girl" entering the contest! "That's a pretty dress," he complimented the greenrider, eyeing the red and blue gown. He watched the 'mandyr curiously as he spoke. It seemed like Val knew exactly what was going on. Of course, the white tail escaped Cadil's notice completely. "I think I'm ready. Are you?" Cadil asked with wicked little smile. He looked up at the man in charge of the contest. It looked like they were getting ready to start.
The man blew an airhorn, marking the beginning of the contest. Cadil snatched up the first pie and started to dig in, all ladylike politeness quickly vanishing.

The voice was off as well. C'ryl pushed it from his mind however. He hadn't spent long in the south and he had met next to no women so who was he to judge what was normal or not? Though the grin she shot him as another woman sat down made him chuckle slightly.
As the horn blew to start to competition C'ryl grabbed the nearest pie and dug into it as if his life depended upon it. He had already lined up two others for when he was done with his first. His strategy? Start with the smallest and work his way up. Hopefully any other competitors would start with their biggest pies and fill up faster.
As he neared the end of his first pie he dumped the last remnants onto the second and reached in. What he pulled out was definitely NOT pie.

Val hurried across the table to where he had seen Star's tail vanishing through the lattice, and then jumped onto the same pie. He wasn't quite as small as she was, but still, he tried. What was she doing?? Worming through the same hole she had, Val's own white tail soon vanished into the thick, syrupy goopiness of the pie.
Oh! Sweet! Nibbling his way along as he looked for Star, Val was quite happy with his new discovery, even as the berries started staining his white prosterior a different shade of purple-blue. Pretty love! He commented, happily.
Dorava nodded at the other two, and then jumped when the horn blew. Oh! Now she could eat! Feeling quite hungry for pie, she snatched up the first pie her hands came to, and started digging in with her spoon. Naturally, she started in the middle and ate her way outwards, liking the filling much better than the edges. But, aware that eating the crusts as well would fill her up faster, she was also aware that eating the crusts too would also keep her from getting sugar-sick quite so fast. So she polished off every bit of pie in that pan and then started on to the next, leaving a remarkably clean dish behind. Dorava ignored the other two participants, as she ate, at first focusing on filling that empty void in her belly as much as eating any pie. She did slow down somewhat as her hunger was sated, however.
All of a sudden, the crispy roof of the delectible haven that was the goopy innards of mandyr pie were breached and sunlight poured into the syrupy heaven. Val screetched in protested, just knowing it was Dorava fishing him out of his new passtime! Nononononono! He started, flopping around in the busted pie like a fish out of water. Completely stained, he looked exactly like a moving chunk of animated pie. The berry stuck to the top of his head and on each foot didn't help any!

Star wormed her way deeper into the pie. She could hear the silly blue nearby. She flashed him a greedy picture. The pie was hers! He could find his own! All at once her food shifted and something much larger was digging into it. What was this?! Didn't they understand this was her pie! Star raised her head just enough to glare at C'ryl. He probably couldn't see her yet, since her head was now purple and covered in berries. That, and it seemed he had the silly Val. Served them both right.
Star sent the new usurper a wave of greedy defiance. He had better stay away from her pie! Or else she would eat him! Picture of giant star went with the emotions. She was growing rather fond of that image. It was effective at scaring stupid humans. Star dove pack into her pie, slurping greedily. She was already quite fat and getting drowsy.

The squirming creature covered in berries in C'ryl's hand was absolutely unhappy with his predicament. When it finally stopped swuirming enough he decided to lick the creature in good humor and set it down. Looking back to his pie he saw bits of the crushed crust moving and received an image of a very large one of a similar creature accompanied by feelings of greedy defiance. Ah well, there were more pies than this one.
Though if he needed to, he would come back to that pie, lizard or not.
C'ryl pushed the pie away rather abruptly and with the weight not being balanced out the pie flipped over. It wasn't a hard flip and the pie remained on the table but the brownrider disregarded iy. He grabbed another pie and dug in. He didn't know how they would count the pies since he had gotten maybe a bite or two out of the prior one but he didn't care.
This was a competition and as long as he downed more pie than the others he was happy.
