Renisa was in her home sitting on a chair mending clothes that we're in a large basket. She had been home the last few months after her husband died in a tragic logging accident and she looked around with a sigh. It had to be more in her life then this just doing household chores and to be married off again. While she went to mending her father's shirts and smiled at the open holes in it. Her father's shirts we're always getting messed up and it made her smile at least some things didn't change.
While she was mending there was a knock at the door and she went to answer it just to see a random person shouting, "Dragonriders are here,". She was curious after all she had only seen a few dragon riders in her entire life and thought it would be a good change of pace. Renisa got up as she smoothed out her brown dress and apron then followed the stranger out into the hold square. While she saw a crowd was already there and she stood behind a bunch of other people.
The people included everyone in Southern Hold and it seemed that she would never get a look at the dragon riders. She remembered how the riders kept well clear of the hold usually. Reinsa didn't really mind them they had a deep responsibility and it wasn't as if no one had ever messed up before. The drunk holders caused disturbances before and no one got that angry with them. She got on her teepy toes to look over the large crowds yet couldn't see anything. Renisa hated these times that she was this short and then looked onward what a wonder to see real dragons it would be.

Peppeth circled down slowly, landing lightly on the ground in her partner's wake. Quite a crowd was gathering, making the small green bouncy with excitement. So many people to meet and play with her! Farryl smiled softly at how easy it was to please her dragon. Most of these people were probably here for curiosity, not to be Searched, but that wasn't going to change Peppeth's mood. Purring like an over grown kitten, she surveyed the gathering people as best she could. It was hard with so many minds, but one did stand out to her. It seemed so sad and lonely. Surly they would love to come and meet a little hatchling of their very own!
Over there. Farryl had slid down to the ground and Peppeth nudged her in one direction. Where? It was impossible to make out anyone specific in this mess. There! Peppeth insisted eagerly. Farryl rolled her eyes. She made it sound so easy. Letting her partner speak with the crowd in general while she slipped into it. A few people tried to stop her and get her attention, but most moved out of the way. They were more interested in Peppeth than her.
Finally, Farryl reached the one she thought Peppeth seemed to like. Reaching out to tap the young woman gently on the shoulder, Farryl smiled at her. "Farryl," she held out a hand along with the introduction. "Care to meet Peppeth?" Farryl didn't really expect her to say 'no'. Not many young people, except maybe those grumpy Lighthouse ones, would refuse meeting a dragon up close. Farryl just hoped this one was willing to come with them voluntarily. The Wastelanders weren't above taking people by force.

Renisa watched as the pair landed and just smiled at the amazing green. She had never really seen a dragon before and watched as the rider got off the dragon. The woman walked through the crowd and she came to stand infront of Renisa. "Yes, I would love to meet her," said Renisa sounding as if a small child with the excitment in her voice. While she smiled a bit because this day was turning out to be much more then she had ever thought.
She followed the woman as she passed others and heard whispers. The crowd was weary of the dragon riders after waterlanders took over and kept their distance. Renisa didn't care what she heard from rumors and would make up her mind after meeting them. It was a day to meet a dragon and could one day tell her future children that she meet a dragon what a rare opportunity. "She's so beautiful," said Renisa as she looked at her for a moment and just stood there afraid to go any further.

The woman didn't give her name, but she was coming so Farryl nodded with a smile. She led her back through the crowd, ignoring the looks. These people were probably tired of Wastelanders coming and taking their children. Farryl only hoped that this one didn't have a family tying her down. They approached Peppeth and the dragon lowered her head until it was practically in front of Renisa, purring loudly. Yes, she told Farryl. This is the one.
Farryl nudged the woman closer. "You can pet her," she suggested. She reached out to demonstrate by rubbing Peppeth's nose. "She likes you," she added with a smile. They could take their time for the moment, let the young woman get used to being close to a dragon. Then Farryl would bring up the idea of riding one. Peppeth shifted happily. She is coming with us, right? she asked. We'll see Peppeth. We're not Wasteland and I won't force her. Oh I hope she will!

The great green dragon came closer to her and she was almost scared. When she was sort of nudged forward by the rider and said, "She's so beautiful," as she tentatively held out a hand and rubbed her on the nose. "Oh, your so beautiful green dragon my name is Renisa," said Renisa as she looked at the dragon and continued to rub her. The people we're still watching as she heard shouts and turned to her parents. "Renisa what are you doing get away from that dragon," said her father as he came up to her and with her mother standing behind him.
"Father," said Renisa as she didn't move and was a bit taken back by her father's tone. "Get away from them their not safe Wastelanders have corrupted the weyr," said her father and came up dragging her by the hand. Renisa was not one to be bossed around because of her losses and then took his hands off of her by jerking away. "I don't care this is a rare chance to meet a green dragon," said Renisa as she continued to pet the dragon her stubborn nature showing. She had been bossed around for turns now and it was getting old. While her mother just looked on always letting her father do the talking for her.

"Her name is Peppeth," Farryl supplied gently. The girl, Renisa, seemed nervous, but she clearly loved the dragon. Peppeth crooned under her touch, enjoying the attention and compliments. Farryl beamed with some relief. Maybe this would go well after all. Clearly she had spoken too soon. Farryl sighed as the man and his wife arrived. Wasn't this girl old enough to make her own choices? Not that she could blame them. Selenitas was hardly the safe haven it used to be. Someday they would fix that, Farryl thought with determination.
Glancing over to her partner, she was almost relieved to see they were busy with another group of potential candidates. If this man hated Wastelanders so much, he was going to hate meeting one even more. Farryl offered the father a polite nod of her head. "I assure you, sir," she told him, keeping her voice even. "Peppeth would never hurt anyone. She only wanted to meet Renisa. Whether she goes or stays is up to her."
Peppeth herself shrank back from the man's angry words. She didn't like it when people were angry. She wasn't doing anything wrong, was she? Farryl-mine. Why does he hate me? Am I bad? Farryl laid a hand on her neck, resisting the urge to snap at the man for making her sweet dragon upset. He's just frightening, she explained. It's not you at all. Peppeth didn't really understand, but she relaxed a little under the soothing touch.

Renisa listened to the exchange between the rider and her father then her eyes went wide upon hearing she had a choice. She said, "I I want to go," as she looked at her father who had a angry look and her mother's disappointed look. When she turned to them then said, "I need a new life and the opportunity to ride this," pointing to the green dragon. "I'll be back in a moment," said Renisa as she looked at her family and then ran back to their house where she got a cape with hood. A few belonging that included a dress and pants we're gathered in a small bag then came back out.
"Good-bye," said Renisa as she hugged her mother who had tears coming out of her eyes. Her father at first refused to say good-bye yet finally hugged her bye. "I'm ready," said Renisa as she was ready to into a new future and at least get away from bad memories. Renisa didn't look back at her family and then waited for directions from the rider. She didn't really care what color she got it was just a chance to get away. A dragon would change her life and give her purpose just not a baby maker. If she was going to die for something then at least it would be in flight not on a child bed.

Farryl was surprised. She hadn't expected the girl to agree so quickly. This had been one of the easiest Searches in quite a while. She was sure there was a story behind Renisa's reasons for this, and her father certainly didn't look pleased. He didn't fight her though, which was a relief. "If you're sure," Farryl nodded, giving her parents a reassuring smile. Farryl climbed up on Peppeth's back and reached down a hand to help Renisa. Not that she should likely need it. Peppeth was hardly difficult to mount at her size. "Off we go then!"

Renisa was on the back of the dragon with her small package and waved good bye to her family. She would be going to her new life and was thrilled beyond belief. The young woman didn't care what color dragon that she got and just wanted to ride a dragon. Her desire to fly in the skys and fly against thread astride a mightly beast. A young girl had left that day and would return hopefully astride a mighy beast.
The young woman held her breath for the in between darkness that was coming up. She would have to get used to this because it would all be rountine one day. Renisa smiled as she thought about hatching day and hoped that the other candidates we're friendly. A new person in their midst might not go over that easily compared with others that had been there a while. While she was nervous about the poltics of the weyr and would keep quiet till getting her footing.
