Sel’n listened to all the speeches and when all was said and done the plan they came up with sounded a bit shaky. However he was not the leader of this expedition, and as such had no right to judge. He gave a shrug and walked to Kaao’s single foreleg. He leaned up against it and pulled his belt knife out of it‘s sheath. “Be careful. If you have problems we will be there as fast as we can.” The brown rider looked at G’tor. “Do you want my knife?” He questioned holding out the blade in case he accepted.
Kaaoloth rumbled and swung his head towards the jungle his nostrils flaring. I smell felines. Tell them to use caution. The wildling's call might have intrigued them. The brown remarked to the other dragons and his bonded his eyes beginning to whirl in anxious yellows. He did not like this. They had better acquire the wildling soon.

G'tor was a little surprised that Saeo managed to argue with the older riders. It took some courage to go against you're betters and she did seem to have the lost boys interests at heart. Though the more they talk about this Pepsi, the more interested he was in meeting him. He must be quick the wildling to have everyone so tense and cautious. He nodded to T'kal. It wasn't a good idea to send Saeo alone and maybe if Pepsi saw he was unarmed he wouldn't turn violent. A lot of things could still go wrong, but it was the best they plan they had right now.
<What do you think?> he asked his dragon. <I would rather I was with you> Ruskeath said nervously. <But I will keep the others informed.> "Alright," he agreed. "Ruskeath says he'll help too." He considered Sel'n's offer carefully for a moment but finally held up his hand. "Thanks, but I think you'll make better use of it than me." It was true. He had never been very good with weapons. Maybe he aught to get some training later if these outings became frequent. <Be careful> Ruskeath told him worriedly, yet again. <Kaaoloth says he smells felines.> <I will> G'tor assured him with a pat. <Stop worrying so much.>
"Alright, Saeo," he said, coming to stand next to her. He waved at the looming jungle that awaited them. "Lead the way."

She hadn't really expected the riders to be so willing to listen to her, and so when T'kal took a moment to re-adjust the plan with her concerns in mind Saeo could only nod obediently. Yes, that sounded a lot better. Dragons were not the kind of thing you brought along on a mission of diplomacy unless you were determined to make it fail. Size alone made them frightening, but when one knew that one was being chased, they were a needless source of anxiety. Corinth's message brought back a rather vivid memory of how frightening being chased by something could be.
Despite G'tor's proclamation when they set out into the jungle, Saeo didn't do much leading. Zesa was the one who knew where the wildling was hiding after all, and so she did little more than hold the queen aloft while she offered them images to navigate by. She looked nervously toward the brownrider as the cavern came into view.
"I don't think he'll be too much trouble." She murmured quietly, running her thumb over the hilt of her pilfered dagger, just to make sure it was still there. "He was just released from the infirmary a few days ago after a bad infection. If the wound hasn't re-opened or gotten infected again by now, then at the very least he should be tired and sore..."
She stopped when they were about twenty feet away from the cavern opening, and studied it nervously from behind the tangle of jungle foliage. A crawler heaved a rattling call from it's perch on a nearby tree-trunk. "Zesa and I will take it from here. If anything happens..." She paused for a moment to think about it. "Zesa will jump back here to inform you. I don't think he'll try to kill me...maybe just a cut or something to scare me off...he and I both know that I'm no threat."
With that shaky reassurance in mind, she moved from the brush and started toward the cave mouth. "Hello?" She called as she drew near, carefully laying one hand alongside the cave opening and peeking inside. It was difficult to see if there was anyone inside, what with the shadows being so dark...but Zesa seemed quite certain that this was the place. "Pepsi? It's me, Saeo...are you in here?"
(( Slight powerplaying here guys, just to get things moving. Let me know if I'm out of line. =P ))

Saeo may not have been able to see him, but Pepsi saw her clearly; and heard her. She wasn't stealthy in the slightest, and he could hear her moving through the underbrush as she moved to his cave. What was she doing here? Surely the riders hadn't just sent /her/ to collect him... Ah, he was right. There was that sharding flit that had led them to him yet again!
He growled, feeling compelled to try and take out the little queen while she was still being held, but didn't act on it. "Am here..." He answered, still wary of her being just a distraction; but she seemed to be alone, and he had made sure there were no other entrances in to his cave... "Am not going back to Weyr either. Go away, leave me be! I not want stupid Weyr or dragon!"
He had pushed himself so hard, but he had still been found so easily... It wasn't fair! He didn't want to be in the Weyr, didn't want to have to deal with humans and their confusing ways. They may have thought he belonged with those of his kind, but he didn't! He refused to think he was even related to the people of the Weyr, to any of Pern! He was happiest out here... He understood it. Nothing he did out here caused people to yell at him; there were no rules he had to try and learn, no stupid words or community.
"Riders not make others stay at Weyr, should not force me to! Am happy out here, is better for me... Don't try to make me go back! I won't!" He hated them! Hated the Weyr and the people who tried to change him. He was surrounded by people there, yet he felt so alone there. He belonged out here, this was all that he knew... They couldn't take that away from him, he would fight!

As they all accepted his plan, T'kal nodded slowly, anxiety gripping his stomach. As self-elected - or rather, dragon-elected - leader of the Search party, if anything went wrong - if anybody was hurt - it was he who would be blamed. He who would take the blame. Honor allowed no less. The brownrider bit the inside of his cheek uneasily, watching Saeo and G'tor vanish into the thick foliage, Zesa curled around the Candidate's shoulders, her golden form visible far longer than the shadowy ones of the humans. T'kal glanced at Sel'n, exhaling quietly, unsure of how to voice his own nervousness. He wasn't there, and every instinct screamed at him that this wasn't good; that to send half a party virtually unarmed forward alone was foolish, but - how else would they do this? It was simply - simply - impossible. He closed his eyes, his face turned to the jungle, and then suddenly, warm breath washed over his back and T'kal leaned against Leweleth's muzzle, seeking reassurance.
Felines. Kaaoloth says he smells them, and so do I, the brown said instead, as tense as T'kalhis. Said brownrider's muscles tightened visibly at the thought of felines and he hissed in quiet anger at their own idiocy. Of course the wildling's call, or the arrival of the dragons, would have drawn those ever-curious, huge felines to them - and G'tor unarmed, and Saeo with a knife and likely as not little experience actually using it - or had she learned? - and of course, Zesa. The queen could be used, he supposed, to return to them if need be, but quickly enough? The brownrider sighed, shaking his head warily. "Should've given G'tor a knife..." he muttered quietly. I don't see what you're worrying about. You didn't give him one, and you can't now, so that's that. It's not done, so it can't be done, and we'll work with what we have. The brown's practical answer made T'kal smile weakly.
"While we're waiting..." he commented quietly to Sel'n, uncertain how he ought to act around the older brownrider - his social experience had been severely limited since his re-arrival at Selenitas - "How - how will we get Pepsi back to the Weyr? I mean, it'll help a lot if we can, you know, make him want to come, but should it come down to force - how? Leweleth says he can hang onto the boy and take a straight flight back to the Weyr, but I don't know...I don't want Leweleth to be hurt. I know the kid's small and he probably can't do much harm, but I still don't want to risk it..." His voice faded, and he bit his lip, looking questioningly at Sel'n as Leweleth crooned softly in his throat, snaking his tail around T'kal affectionately. I will not be hurt by the wildling, and we have a very capable dragonhealer in any case, the brown stated confidently.
~*~*~
Zesa had decided that the girl's forearm was an appropriate place to perch will directing the small group, and it was there that the golden fire lizard clung, tail looped lightly around Saeo's wrist to keep herself on as she ocassionally leapt into the air to check their location before returning, always leaning precariously in the direction that they ought to go to arrive at Pepsi's hideaway. It wasn't a far walk at all from the clearing, as was apparent when they arrived, Zesa leaving Saeo to glide to the mouth of the cave and then backflip to return to the Candidate, cocking her head expectantly as her gaze slid from Saeo to G'tor, waiting for one of them to do something. She had fulfilled her mission: Find the wildling, lead the Weyr to the wildling. Now what?
As the girl announced her plan, Zesa slipped to her shoulder, chirruping softly at G'tor, as if in reassurance that, yes, she was capable of making sure the girl wasn't hurt. Small she may have been, but wings and claws and beak could hurt, delicate though they may look at present moment, if Zesa intended for them to. She clung passively to Saeo's tunic as the girl made her way to the cave mouth and peeked inside, the golden queen peeking inside too. Yes, the boy's mind was quite distinctive and he was still here. The fire lizard crooned softly as Saeo spoke, as if to reassure the girl as she pressed tightly against the Candidate's throat, tailtip tapping lightly against Saeo's collarbone as her luminous eyes swept the interior of the cave until she picked out the shadowy form that must be Pepsi.
And yes, that was where his voice emerged from when he did speak. Or rather, growl. Distressed by the harsh noise, Zesa flared her wings slightly, though she remained soundless as her tail tightened almost imperceptibly around Saeo's throat. His words only served to distress the queen even more, and she fluted anxiously, touching his mind with images - they were not her memories, but those that fire lizards before her had passed down, and now she passed them to the boy. Dragons; he didn't want one? But - oh...how lovely Hatchings were, and how much each Candidate yearned for the eyes of that dragon to meet theirs...didn't he know the love, the unconditional trust, the irreversable, irrevocable linking of mind, soul, heart - ? He didn't want it? Everybody wanted it...and it was this that she sent to him. The image of the Hatching Sands, a clutch on the Sands, the Candidates in white robes, standing in a loose semi-circle, the heat, and the longing so intense it was nearly palpable...
How could he not want that?

Kaaoloth rumbled as he caught a shadowy movement from the corner of his eye but it was just a bronze flitter who blinked between before the brown could hail him. The dragon kept his eyes on the jungle scanning the foliage for movement as his nostrils flared to better take in the scents surrounding them. What was a flitter doing in this area? Sel’n raised his head to regard the younger rider, listening carefully as he spoke.
“Hmm I can see your point. If we can’t get him to come willingly perhaps we could tie him up before having one of the dragons carry him.” He let the other rider contemplate the idea as he took a appraising look at their surroundings. “The thick vines growing in this place should be a sufficient replacement for rope.” Sel‘n said as he pointed to one of the hanging vines. “Let us hope it doesn’t come to that however.”
Kaaoloth snorted and lowered his head to nudge his rider. Sel'n patted the brown muzzle before turning again to speak to T'kal. “Kaaoloth says he saw a flitter a few moments ago. He doesn’t recognize it from the weyr. Are wild flitters common in this area?” The rider hated to think the flitter was a spy but one could not be too careful. A faraway roar distracted him for a moment and Kaaoloth growled low in his throat. They are getting closer Selmine.

G'tor watched with apprehension as Saeo and Zesa disappeared into the cave. He wished he could go with her, if only to keep a closer watch on her, but he respected her request. The boy would likely take him as a threat no matter how nonthreatening he behaved. Besides, he trusted Zesa to keep an eye on both young people. G'tor held his ground, keeping on eye on the cave, and the other on the jungle around. The shade under the trees and the stillness made the whole scene very unsettling indeed. He was beginning to think that Pepsi would be the least of their problems. Maybe he should have taken that knife after all.
Ruskeath was also watched the jungle anxiously. He did not like being separated from his bonded, even in the cause of a rescue. Even keeping in constant contact did little of relax his fears. <Felines are growing closer,> he warned urgently. <Please hurry.> <I know,> G'tor answered seriously. Ruskeath posed himself to rush to the rescue, even as he relayed the events to Kaaoloth and Leweleth. <Saeo and our small cousin have gone to speak to the wildling,> he reported. <Mine waits outside. No sign of an attack.> He hoped it would stay that way.

He was growling at her? Well, Saeo couldn’t say that she had expected a warmer welcome...but it was still an unsettling sound to hear coming from a human being.
“Pepsi, you can’t hide out here in the jungle forever.”
The girl told him, crouching down to get a better view of the shapeless, dark cave interior.
“You’re a person, not a...well I can’t even say feline, can I? Felines at least live in groups...people are not meant to be on their own, and even if that wasn’t the case, it’s dangerous out here. You’ve seen how desperate the predators are getting in this drought. They’ll be going for the weakest links they can find, and you’re foolish if you think that a human reeking of dragons and numbweed won’t be at the top of their dinner menu.” She suddenly flinched and looked over her shoulder, put on edge by a deep, rumbling call that rose from somewhere in the jungle and all but silenced the local wildlife. What was that? One of the dragons? Oh shards, please let it be the dragons and not something else that G’tor couldn’t see coming. She turned her attention back toward the faint glimmer at the back of the cave she assumed to mark Pepsi’s location.
“You can’t stay here on your own. It’s just not safe! Please, we need to get back to the dragons before something hungry finds out where we are.”
You’re going to DIE you sharding twit! Apart from the obvious fact that whatever made THAT sound does not sound pleased to meet us, there’s almost no food or water out here, you’ve done yourself an injury and you’re an appetizing prey item! For the love of little green dragons, use your BRAIN and come back to the weyr where it’s at least SAFE!

"Can hide forever, if little lizard not bring everyone!" Pepsi focused his rage on Zesa for a few moments, giving a low snarl as his grip on his knife increased, knuckles going white as he glared at both. His body nearly vibrated with tension, the age-old fight-or-flight instinct rising; and he had nowhere to flee to, so that left only one option... But Saeo was harmless, wasn't she?
"Don't need people! Hate them! I know jungle, have lived in jungle... Predators not get me in trees!" He had made it this far, hadn't he? He was fine! He recieved more injuries in the Weyr than he had out here the past few days! He was going to argue further, but the sudden barrage of images and feelings that weren't his own made him falter. His hands automatically groped for his temples, eyes widening as he tried to figure out what it was he was feeling. No! He didn't want it, he hated it!
He screamed before he even realized his mouth was open, a howl of denial and savage intent. He was out of the cave with every fibre of his body telling to get away from these people. Saeo wasn't much of a barrier against him and he shoved her aside, making for the opposite direction that he had seen Saeo come from. Still, the ground was too unsafe, too easy to track, and he quickly made for a sturdy looking tree, scaling it and scampering along a branch to another tree. They weren't going to take him! He wasn't going back-
A crack soon made him draw away from his thoughts as the branch under him fell away, leaving him plummeting down. He groped blindly around him, grabbing on to a vine; his own momentum sent him crashing in to the side of the tree, but he ignored it, grabbing on to another branch and swinging his body forwards, crossing a gap to another tree. He had to get away!

Zesa curled and uncurled her tail nervously from around Saeo's neck, her eyes gleaming as she watched Pepsi. She had no particular dislike of the boy; he was just that - a boy, a part of the Weyr, and he had not hurt Hers, so he was fine. The words exchanged from girl to Pepsi were not registered by Zesa so much as the tone they were uttered in; she shifted abruptly, her head coming up sharply as a low rumble issued somewhere from outside the cave. Not the right direction for the dragons, and in any case, they wouldn't have made noise...would they? The queen flared her wings slightly in silent distress, getting her wing slightly tangled in Saeo's hair before she dropped the gleaming gold appendages again, only to croon her anxiety as the Pepsi-boy's glare was sent her way.
And then - her wings shot up defensively at the wildling's reaction to the images, the queen instinctively uttering a distressed cry as she sprang into flight, leaving Saeo's shoulder. She wouldn't have, had it been Meira, but Saeo wasn't Hers, much as Zesa liked the girl, and she didn't feel as safe around her as she did the Bluehandler. The tiny queen blinked between as Pepsi charged at Saeo, seeking out G'tor as she had been instructed. She appeared directly over the brownrider's head, with a flurry of images directed at both G'tor and at Leweleth, including the sound of the growl from the underbrush, the feral sound of the boy's shriek. Zesa finished with a keel, imploring his aide, and then shot off through the undergrowth back to the cave just as Pepsi scaled the tree, and she dropped her wings, watching as he climbed swiftly to a branch, and then -
Crack, and down he went, and away, swinging swiftly through the trees. The queen flared her wings again, her eyes flashing in a clear sign of anxiety as she pressed against Leweleth's mind, feeling the brown sharply asking after her. She was okay - she was fine - but the boy, he was foolish! He was going to be killed soon...
~*~*~
Tie him up - ? T'kal winced slightly at the suggestion. He didn't like the idea of violence, but sometimes he supposed it was necessary. "We could try," he acknowledged the possibility warily. "Do you know him at all? - for example, how much human sense he's got as opposed to simple survival tactics - ? I don't know, it just seems...that he hasn't much, I guess, and..." He shrugged. "He just doesn't seem to do very well in the Weyr, does he...?" The brownrider sighed absently, leaning against Leweleth's foreleg and pressing his cheek against the dark brown dragon's hide. T'kal didn't like this - this nonactivity, this helplessness which with he sat, simply awaiting G'tor, Saeo, and Zesa's return, knowing that they might not because of the felines, and yet not being able to do anything lest he accidentally jeopardize the mission.
We do what we must, Leweleth answered didactically, and T'kal smiled wearily at the brown dragon just as Sel'n spoke again. Fire lizard not from the Weyr? "I wouldn't worry about it," he responded, as Leweleth gave an absentminded flick of his tail. "Fire lizards are pretty common - it's only a short distance to the beach, and they're fond of clutching in the jungle, I'd think." He gave a slight shrug. "I'm pretty sure there was a f'lizard clutch found here, by some Weyrfolk, once...and you know, the queens and greens and all seem to like using this place as an obstacle course in their Flights." Another slight shrug, and he cocked his head to glance back at Sel'n. "And our dragons being here might have attracted them. Curious little things..."
He was interrupted as a distinctly undraconic and inhuman roar sounded, a distance away, and Leweleth responded with a low snarl, eyes flashing as his tail lashed violently. Thank you, Ruskeath, and it was with utmost care that he kept the anxiety from his tones as he heard the other brown's report. Abruptly, as he touched Zesa's mind gently, asking the fire lizard for a more detailed report, distress flooded his mind and Leweleth hissed softly, eyes anxious as his head whipped around, speaking quickly and urgently to T'kalHis, Ruskeath, and Kaaoloth. The little sister is frightened. She has heard a growling sound nearby, and the boy does not want to come; he is in the trees. The brown's eyes flicked to Ruskeath. She has gone to Yours, he added absently. Felines...this was not anticipated. He hesitated, and then added tentatively to the Weyrleader's bronze, Corinth, sir? There are felines; we can all sense them and they are probably quite close to the wildling, and he doesn't want to come. What do you suggest...?
~*~*~
The bronze rumbled anxiously as he passed the message to His. It's your call, Weyrleader, he commented softly, anxiety touching his tones as he heard the brown dragon's anxious, faltering message. T'rid paused, scowling slightly at the dragon. "I don't care. Pull out. If he wants to be eaten by felines, that's his call, not ours." He shrugged. "And anyway, his life isn't worth the lives of three Riders and a willing Candidate. Pull out, Corinth." The bronze eyed him anxiously, uttering a soft croon. You are sure? The wildling may have friends who will not be pleased... "Sucks to be them," came the swift, eloquent response, and the young bronzerider's eyebrow arched, his chin rising slightly in defiance. "Pull out."
Leweleth, Ruskeath, Kaaoloth! Pull out. It's over. If he so clearly doesn't want to be in the Weyr, we will not force him; his life isn't worth that of three Riders.

Kaaoloth rumbled in agreement to Corinth’s statement and passed the message to his bonded. Sel’n nodded and turned to T’kal. “Well you heard our orders. Pull out. I guess at this point it doesn’t matter how much human sense he has. We are not wasting anymore energy on him. The other candidate must be retrieved now before she comes to harm. Kaaoloth and I will take to the air and try to locate the felines if you wish. Perhaps the sight of a dragon will stall them a bit.” The rider looked up at his beast and back to T’kal awaiting spoken orders. He was in charge, was he not?
Kaaoloth hesitantly touched Ruskeath’s mind. You will pull your bonded out now yes? I do not wish any harm to befall… The brown broke off and swung his head around nostril’s flaring. A flash of tawny fur rustled the bushes close by and the large brown moved in front of his bonded snarling viciously. They have arrived here as well. He said to the other two browns eyes taking on a red tinge, tail lashing the air.

Leweleth, Ruskeath, Kaaoloth! Pull out. It's over. If he so clearly doesn't want to be in the Weyr, we will not force him; his life isn't worth that of three Riders.
G'tor started at the sound of crashing underbrush from the direction of the cave. Within moments, Zesa appeared and relayed, with some urgency what had transpired. Shard it all! Did the boy have no sense? G'tor wasted no time in diving into the jungle. <Ruskeath! The boy's run for it! And Zesa thinks the felines are getting closer!> he shouted the warning as he ran, ignoring the branches that tried to hinder his path. He made it to the cave quickly and went first to find Saeo. Zesa would keep an eye on the boy, so finding him again was not the problem. Catching him was a whole other issue.
<Tor!> Ruskeath's cry was almost panicked. G'tor could feel him practically posed to dive headfirst into the jungle. <Corinth orders us to leave now! Quickly before the felines come!> <What about the boy?> G'tor wanted to know. <We leave him,> Ruskeath answered urgently. <It is not worth seeing you or Saeo harmed.>
G'tor didn't like the idea of just leaving Pepsi in the jungle alone, but of the three of them, he clearly had a better idea of how to handle felines than himself or Saeo. "Saeo! Are you alright?" he called as soon as he could see her. At least she looked fine. "We have to go now! The Weyrleader is calling us back to the Weyr!"

The sudden rush of frigid air on her neck was what first reminded Saeo that she was living and not watching the events before her. Hitting the ground wasn’t painful, but that perception might have had something to do with the fact that she had been expecting a knife between the ribs. Good then...he hadn’t tried to kill her...but despite her best efforts it seemed that there would be no getting through to him with reason. Well, they’d have to follow him then. They could wait until he settled down and then try talking to him again...
“Wait, what?”
She murmured, suddenly realizing that G’tor was calling to her. She stared blankly at him as he approached, searching her short term memory to see if any of the words he had just spoken had managed to catch in her mind. Weyrleader...calling back... “No!”
She cried with sudden recognition, scrambling to her feet before he could close the gap between them, touch her or otherwise cut off the route of escape she might have to make for herself.
“No, we can’t leave him! We’re the ones who attracted the sharding beasts in the first place! Surely three great brown dragons can handle a few starving felines? He’ll be killed if we leave him out here!”
She realized that she must look properly hysterical, and so attempted to slow her rapid breathing. What kind of Weyrleader would call off a recuse mission just because it got a little dangerous? She made a mental note to have a good long chat with T’rid the next time she saw him, but right now it was G’tor she had to worry about.
