Lilu walked smartly into the door of the Infirmary, clutching a damp red cloth in her right hand. Her expression was grim, not as much from the pain but from the irritation that had overtaken the embarrassment caused by injuring herself as she had. She had been maintaining her blades as she often did, and the freshly-sharpened blade of her dagger was resting in her palm as she had turned to grab the scabbard. The scabbard had been shifted aside to make room on her desk for a new flightleathers jacket, one that had just been delivered by one of the Weavers while she was in the middle of sharpening the weapon. Unfortunately, the crossguard of the dagger had snagged on the jacket on her desk as she stretched out to retrieve the leather scabbard, and as Lilu kept her blades in top condition, the dagger had been sharp enough to slice her right palm open, deep enough that she knew she would require stitches in order for it to heal properly.
Cursing the fact that she had been so dedicated to returning to where she had left off in her blade maintenance that she had been stupid enough to not immediately hang her new jacket out of the way where it belonged, she had berated herself the entire way to the Infirmary, clutching a now blood-soaked rag, and now her mood was completely spoiled. She simply wanted to get her hand fixed and retreat back to her room as quickly as possible so that no one would question what had happened and reveal her stupid mistake to the Weyr as a whole. Looking around the Infirmary, she tapped the first person she could find on the shoulder, saying, "Excuse me, could I get this stitched up, please?"

He was rather... incredulous at the blue ball perched on the nearby pillow, watching with intense scrutiny his hands as the teen bandaged the patient whose bed the blue currently sat on. Chandil was incredulous because... well. He had a firelizard. By some odd twist of fate, he had dwelled at a flitter hatchling and before he had even really thought about it, when a nearby egg had hatched by him, he had just stuffed food down the hatchling's throat. Which had ended in him Impressing the blue, before he had even noticed hide color and that nausea had filled his stomach. Surprisingly, after he felt the brush of the blue's mind against his, the nausea had faded mostly, though his stomach still squirmed at the sight of blue. The flitter had... become exempt to his hatred of the color.
But that didn't change the fact he was still incredulous to the blue he had dubbed Besyr.
It had taken him a couple tries, in whatever conversation he had got into, to keep his face straight. Because Besyr had a nasty little habit he didn't find out about until he opened his mouth to talk to people. Which tended to end in awkward questions. Or a slap to the face slash punch to the stomach depending on who he was talking to. He.. avoided the girl candidates now unless they came to him. Particularly that Rosa chick. Urgh.
But regardless.
A sharp intact of breath from the patient had him glancing over, realizing his attention had wandered as he studied the blue, and thus his grip had gotten rather too tight for the wounded arm.
"Sorry," he stated gruffly, embarrassment kindling in the pit of his stomach, but failing to reach his face. He had really become quiet good at this. Finishing up the wrap, and giving sharp instructions not to strain the arm and to put the medicine slash re-wrap the arm every day, etc., Chandil called Besyr to him and took the tray back to the storage room as the patient left. Besyr had landed on his shoulder, immediately latching his tail around Chandil's neck in a tight death grip as he radiated curiosity and a brief reminder that it was almost time for his meal.
"You just ate, you glutton," Chandil muttered to him, marveling at the fact that with Besyr there to distract him, he didn't fling insults at himself quiet as often. As Chandil had become an expert at keeping a straight face, Besyr had become an expert in keeping the gaping hole in Chandil's mind at bay alongside most of the nightmares. Hey, firelizards needed sleep too.
Cleaning off infirmary tools, Besyr gave a brief, quiet trill of warning before the teen felt the tap on his shoulder. Another thing the flitter had learned, unless he wanted to get dislodged from his shoulder, he should very well warn His when someone was approaching. He had, had far too many nose dives for his liking.
Pausing Chandil turned as Lilu's words reached his ears, raising a brow before glancing at the hand, "Sure. Let me have a look at it."
Normally, stitching was left to the fully fledged healers, but being one of those who had to run around treating earthquake injuries meant he had made a jump in his status, and there had even been hints that he might be making journeyman soon if he could finalize his education, and they got the okay from the Hall. Whoop-dee-doo.
Notice his enthusiasm.
Leading Lilu to a nearby bed, he sat her down before examining the hand, briefly unwrapping it to take a quick look, before grimacing and re-wrapping it.
"Geez, what did you do that with? You nearly hit the tendon. A knife of some sort?" Chandil muttered, more to himself than Lilu, though his mutterings were never really quiet. Trotting off he headed back to the storage closet, grabbing numbweed among other things to treat the hand. Of course, this entire time the stock still blue flitter had been bombarding Chandil with images, very inappropriate images and all he could say, was at least this time they were of the humorous nature rather than... others.
He still had to fight to keep his face straight.

Lilu let the young man, with his apparently clingy blue firelizard, lead her to the bed, where she sat and let him look at her hand. To his question, a short, terse reply of, "Dagger," was all he got from the annoyed young woman.
As he went off to collect his supplies, Lilu left the hand palm-up where he had released it when examining it, her other hand gripping the edge of the bed as she tapped her fingers on the furs there. Her irritation getting the best of her, she then crossed her legs, her ungrounded foot tapping the air as she sat impatiently waiting for her wound to be stitched and for herself to be released to get back to her self-imposed duties.

"What were you doing with a dagger?" Chandil asked, genuinely curious for once. To cut yourself on a knife was one thing, you could assume they had an accident in the kitchen, but cutting yourself on a dagger? Really now. Rolling his eyes, he grabbed the needle and set it on his tray, trotting back over to Lilu grabbing a stool as he sat in front of her. But he wasn't quiet, muttering away to the blue on his shoulder, poking his nose into every inch of the tray and demanding to know what each thing was for, and then demanded to see it in action.
"Here," Chandil stated suddenly, grabbing Lilu's wrist and squeezing, "Hold here, cut of the blood flow so we don't risk too much blood lose. Your little dagger accident cut seriously deep, if you hadn't noticed already. There's a reason people don't play with those things." Letting go of her wrist once she had grabbed the spot he indicated, he unwrapped the hand, quickly dabbing numbweed around the skin, waiting a moment he let it sink in enough that her hand was slightly numb, cleaning the wound before putting disinfectant on it. All the while he muttered what he was doing, not in his head, but via his mouth to explain everything to the pesky blue who was leaning down his shoulder, crooning to Lilu. He was hardly distracting the teen now, he was all business, his amusing images kept to himself until Lilu was all stitched up.
"I hope this has taught you to be more careful," Chandil muttered, this one directed to Lilu as he began to stitch, beginning at the bottom of the cut, before he began sowing the larger blood vessels together, quickly, but deftly and carefully. "As you should already know, don't strain this hand. These stitches dissolve once the wound is healed, but before it's healed, don't strain it. You'll be bleeding under the skin." A chirp quickly enforced this statement, Chandil having just dealt with a case the day before of a young boy breaking his stitches, and having to get the wound reopened just to fix the ones on his blood vessels. Way to fall down the stairs, again, kid.

"I was sharpening and oiling it," replied Lilu to the boy's question, watching him fetch the tools to repair her cut. At least the boy seemed competent, she thought to herself, even if that firelizard on his shoulder seems strangely curious about the proceedings.
Lilu squeezed her wrist as indicated, though she tersely responded, "If it had not cut this deeply, I would not have come here and simply taken care of it myself. This is far from the first cut I've received, though one of the first self-inflicted ones." Scowling a bit at his implication, she added, "As I said, I was sharpening and oiling my blade, as any proper weapon owner should. I was not 'playing' with it." She also mumbled something about it being a waste of time when he applied the numbweed, but by the time he had said what it was, he had already applied it, so she decided to not press the matter and let the boy finish his work so she could get back to her duties as quickly as possible.
As the boy finished his work, Lilu quickly stood, nodding in a "get on with it" manner as he spoke of the care instructions, having heard it all before. Turning to leave, she asked, "Is there anything morel, or are we done here? I have things that need to be done... things that will take even longer to complete with only one fully capable hand, so if there's nothing more, I'd like to get back to it."

"What makes you think you're going to need a weapon?" Chandil questioned, raising a brow briefly as Besyr took it upon himself to gather the bandages and hopped onto Lilu's arm once the stitches were done, and began bandaging it himself, receiving a irritated click of the tongue from Chandil for his trouble as he was corrected here and there with tiny nudges. "Why would you want to feel pain during a stitching? Masochism much?
"Yea, don't strain your hand, make sure to change the bandages regularly and as it heals be sure to stretch it so you don't lose any movement," Chandil replied, both brows raised though a delicate scowl decorated his face, his arms crossed even as Besyr nosed the supplies Lilu would need for later in her direction. A small jar of numbweed included, "And whether you think numbweed is needed or not, I would suggest using it. If the stitches tear instead of dissolve as they should, be sure to come see a Healer, whether it's me or someone else I don't really care. Take the numbweed."
Because he totally had a feeling that Lilu would refuse if he didn't push it on her.

Lilu looked at Chandil as if he were mad, replying incredulously, "I'm a dragonrider... why wouldn't I need a weapon?" Then, as the firelizard began bandaging her hand, she looked on with even more confusion, and distractedly replied, "I don't enjoy pain, no. I simply do not see it necessary to take extra time to apply numbweed when I have work to get back to, and I could easily muscle through such pain."
Lilu folded her arms and rolled her eyes as Chandil spouted out additional care instructions, taking the numbweed with a sneer that showed she was only doing it to shut him up. Taking up the remainder of the bandages and other materials he set aside for her, she turned and headed towards the exit to the Infirmary, glad to finally be getting back to her work... slowed as it may be due to her injured hand.

"Pfft. Because dragonriders used to not be at each others throats..." Chandil muttered, rolling his eyes at her claim to muscle through pain. Sure, anyone can muscle through it, but it's not that much of a fun experience. Thus, why there was numbweed. And of course, he returned her expression, curling his lips at her as she walked out of the infirmary. Though he was sure it was ruined by Besyr's timely interruption of an image of Lilu in the most ridiculous outfit he had ever seen... well, mentally. Bah.
"Will you stop that?" the teen muttered as the firelizard went back to his shoulder, strangling his neck and pleasantly reminding him that he was hungry so they should go get food. And that Chandil's logic was flawed. "No it's not, we're supposed to be out of the way anyway, so quiet you."
Still flawed. THE END
