” Ow, ow, ow, ow.” The plaintive cries came from a thin blonde girl as she was being helped into the infirmary by two boys. “ Shard it! Watch it! I might be dying here!” She shot out at one of the boys, narrowing her blue eyes at him. The boy muttered something under his breath and the pair of them all but shoved the injured girl onto one of the cots, causing her to issue an indignant wail and to flash them another piercing glare. How DARE they treat her like this! She was wounded. Fine, let them leave if they want. The drama queen scrambled up onto the bed, glaring at the boys’ backs as they exited the infirmary. Ani shoved herself up against the head of the bed, rubbing her swollen ankle.
She still didn’t think that it was her fault that she got hurt. Sure, she could have been focusing more on her chores, and sure, she didn’t have to turn around so quickly when she saw that adorable weyrling come her way. In pain and all alone at the moment, Vellani’s mind was clearing slowly…much too slowly. She still blamed the boy for her injury. WHY did he have to have been coming her way right when he had? Why did he have to be so good looking, with cute hair and cute eyes…and that smile! Or shards that smile.
” Ugh…” She winced as she rubbed her ankle. Ani had turned around so quickly when the boy had looked at her that she had tripped on her own foot, twisting her ankle soundly. She was certain she had hear a cracking sound and that her ankle was broken, but the boy who had examined it had assured her ( not without much pain to Ani ) that she was fine and that her ankle wasn’t broken after all.
It felt as bad as if it had broken.
Ani hated that he affected her in that way. Usually she could keep her cool around cute boys…well, that was a lie, but at least she was able to keep from making a complete and utter fool of herself, until today. In all reality, he probably hadn’t even noticed her little spill, and if he had, he probably didn’t think that she had made a fool of herself, but Vellani didn’t care. Her cheeks were still burning as she pulled her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms around her legs, wincing and rubbing her swollen ankle. Now she wouldn’t be able to walk for weeks! At least she might be able to get out of chores for a little while. Maybe it would even give him a chance to forget about how unbelievably clumsy she was.
” Worst. Day. Ever.” She grumbled to herself as she sat there, waiting for someone to come in and look at her. Maybe they’d confirm her suspicions that her ankle was broken, even though she knew in her gut that that boy had been right.
Stupid boys.
