He traced the grain of the wood for what seemed to be the hundredth time, sighing hardily out of boredom. He wasn't needed in the Creche, nor were there lessons, so he was stuck doing nothing at all. Burrowing into his furs with a yawn, Nautic closed his eyes, trying to will himself to take a nap. He normally could crawl into anything and go to sleep, but he seemed cursed today. A few minutes passed and not even the faintest pull of sleep threatened to take him over. Whining like a young canine, the Wher Candidate threw his furs off of him and swung his legs over the side of his bunk. Dropping down with a thud, Nautic paced over to the cage in which he kept his Darter, he whined again when he saw that Mouse was asleep. As if to taunt him unintentionally.
Turning to face the other boys who were currently chilling in their beds and had little to do as well, Nautic perched his hands on his hips. "Well I'm going down to the Common Area to see if there are any of the girls milling about. You're all welcome to join me." He paused and walked over to his trunk, withdrawing a bathing towel before crossing back over to the door. With a wink he exited out into the hallway, padding barefoot toward the stairs that led downward to the first level. He had yet to get to know some of the new candidates... a surprising amount of them weren't eyesores either. He grinned deviously as he thought about sharing a room with some of them... he was secretly glad that Mairen hadn't impressed yet. Nautic thought that particular male candidate was quite a nice specimen in particular, despite the fact the man was about nine years older. Of course, he thought many people were pretty enough to warrant extra attention.
Some of the girls weren't half-bad either, that is of what he's seen of them so far. A few of them were incredibly successful of escaping his sight-line, whether intentional or not. Although he was inclined to attribute that to the fact that most of the time he could be distracted by the slightest thing, only to return to the task at hand and find it missing (or in the terms of food, already been eaten).

Anusha is not amused. So could be said for the girl as she climbed the stairs. She had just received the number for her bunk and was on her way to settling in. She'd met no one and was still secretly lamenting that she hadn't been able to say good-bye to her brother before leaving. Curse her father for keeping him at the forge. So determined he was to training Ramen in the ways of the blacksmith that he himself hadn't said more than "good-bye and good luck". At least Gonan had given her something. The recordskeeper had given her a stylus and leather so she could write when she arrived. He was more the father to her than anyone else had been.
Anusha broke out of her reverie just in time to narrowly miss running into someone on the stairs. Until this time she had been looking down. Muttering an apology she shifted her pack and continued up the stairs. Though she couldn't resist the urge to look back and see whom it was she had nearly collided with. One of the boys. He probably hadn't heard her any way. She hoped he wouldn't call after her as she continued to climb the steps.

Merridan blinked. She was sure she had seen another girl vanish up the stairs as she came into the common room. She wasn't sure if it had been someone she knew either. It was hard to keep track with all the new candidates arriving. She considered going after her, but someone else was already coming down the stairs anyway. It was one of the boys who had been her before her. A wher candidate if she remembered right. She really had to work on learning all their names.
"Good day," she smiled and waved. "Who was that running up the stairs? I didn't think I was that scary." Auran raised himself on her head and flared his wings proudly. Obviously he was the scary one. If the girl had fled from his presence, than she wasn't worthy to be near His.

(Remember, everyone can still join. :3 )
Pausing in mid-step, Nautic turned to look at the retreating woman. "Sorry there." She was new. Not only had he never seen her before, she was also carrying packs and bags. "Oh hey... you're new. Feel free to come down to the Common Area when you've settled in. A few of us are meeting down there to chat." Tossing his bangs away from his face with a small shake of his head, the Candidate offered the woman a smile before trotting happily back down the stairs. And they keep coming. The Dragonriders must know something he didn't, especially the Weyrwoman. Selenitas's ranks had been diminished, but there were searchriders going out daily, and it seemed like they were striking a gold mine recently.
Stepping down onto the landing, Nautic had barely taken a few paces before being hailed. He flashed the other Candidate a smile as he raised his hand in greeting, striding forward to meet her half way. "Ahh, Merridan, good day to you as well." He came to a stop, the smile still plastered onto his face, which was not an unusual sight at all. He had a knack for keeping a smile on his face even in the line of anger. "A new Girl. Like, really new. Did you notice her bags?" Nautic tossed a glance over his shoulder at the empty stairwell. "She must have just gotten off the search Dragon or something." Grabbing either end of the white towel that hung around his neck, the young man sighed and inclined his head slightly. "I didn't catch her name, though it looked like she didn't want to be talked to."
His eyes wandered upward to the Blue firelizard on the woman's head, lifting an eyebrow with a chuckle. "Obviously, if anyone scared her off, it was your flitter there. He's quite intimidating. Look at him, his wings all furled and all..." He gave a slight shake of his head. "If I were new, I would totally run away." Now, if somebody really wanted to see scary, all they would do was wake Absinthe up. His Mandyr went wild when someone woke her up with a hangover. In fact, she was pretty scary when-ever she wasn't completely plastered. Biting, scratching and clawing until someone got her a little alcohol. He sometimes wished that the rule against Candidates and Weyrlings impressing Salamandyrs had been put into effect /before/ he impressed Absinthe. Maybe he wouldn't have had to both love and hate her at the same time.

Anusha heard muttering behind her as she turned into the girls' room. She guessed that someone had been behind her but she didn't care. She settled herself in, putting her things in the trunk provided. Looking around she didn't see anyone else in the room and decided to go back and find out whom it was she had run in to. They couldn't still be on the stairs could they? It mattered not, she was on a mission now.
The door had been left open by her so Anusha walked through and closed it behind her. After descending the stairs she did find that he were still there. Another woman was talking with him now. Without much grace or poise, Anusha walked right up to them and stood there, ignoring the creature on the womans head. A polite smile was on her face and her whole demeanor had changed, however not much.
"Sorry about running off earlier. I'm Anusha but my brother calls me Annie sometimes." The mention of her brother's nickname for her made her once again wonder where he was and how he was. How had he reacted to coming home and finding out what had happened to her? She pushed that thought to a back burner in her mind. It was something to think about at a later time.

Merridan glanced after the girl and shrugged. "Probably," she agreed. Auran puffed up proudly. Yes, he was intimidating wasn't he? All the better to keep bad and silly people away. Mer rolled her eyes and grinned. "You'll give him airs, talking like that," she accused in amusement. But it didn't look like she had been afraid after all, because here she was coming back down.
"Here you are," Mer smiled and held out a hand to the new girl. "I'm Merridan, but Mer is just fine." In fact it was better. She wasn't overly fond of her full name. It was a bit long.

He offered the Blue Flit a smile. "Well, we all are allowed to have our ego's pumped every once in a while." Letting a hand fall from his towel to his hip, Nautic shrugged slightly. "Faranath knows my ego needs a boost every once in a while. Or boy, tch. I lounge about in my underwear and skip out on my duties." Tossing his bangs, the Wher Candidate rolled his neck. "So Mer, I..." But he was interrupted by a female voice. Turning to look at who had spoken up, he had to look upward slightly. He was short for a young male, standing at about five foot six when he wasn't slouching... which he was right now. Geesh, women were getting tall! What happened to all the short ones where he could actually rival in size? The times were changing he supposed, but could they change a little slower please? Oh well. At least she was good looking. Yes, he was a shameless flirt... especially with men and women slightly older than him.
"Assertive..." Raising a brow, Nautic glanced between the two girls as Merridan introduced herself. He took a step back and bowed with a flourish of his hand, obviously appealing to his dramatic side. "I am Nautic. You can call me Nausi if you're feeling bold." He stepped back into his original position. "It is certainly a pleasure to meet you, Anusha." Crossing his arms he offered her a grin. "I'm a Wher Candidate, Selenitas born and bred. If you have any questions, feel free to bother me anytime." He paused. "Oh and that..." He gestured in the Blue's general direction. "... is Mer's Firelizard. I have a Salamandyr myself, a Green named Absinthe."

Anusha shook Mer's hand. It seemed they all had something other than their own name to be called by. It was nice for people to offer something else. "It's just as much a pleasure to meet you, Nausi." It was a name she wouldn't use often as she wasn't fond of the sound but it seemed fitting right now.
"Not so much Selenitas born or bred, but I am familiar with the weyr," Coming here to help with records had given her the opportunity to explore and get used to how it worked. However, she'd never been in the candidate barracks so this part was new. "I have no pets," she added. There really was no need to mimic them and state what they did but she felt like it. Either way, she was losing her initial stoic demeanor and was warming up to them.
The confines of the staircase was a little unsettling and was frankly making her feel awkward. "Could we sit at a table and talk? Or were you already on your way to do something else?" she said, glancing at Nautic's towel. Unless he was one to randomly carry around a towel as she might, Anusha guessed he had been on his way to the bathing rooms.
