She had woken up at the third candle mark, her dreams and their content pulling her into reality with a jerk. Her water had broken. The Weyrwoman had a feeling that the baby would come this month, but she truthfully hadn't been expecting it so early in the progression of days. Although it had been a short ride over to the infirmary, Kaegan had begun her contractions before crossing the threshold. Never having had a child before, and never having been around a birth, it was easy to say the Weyrwoman underestimated how much it would hurt. Four hours of labor was no easy task, but afterward, she was glad that it didn't take any longer than that. After feeding the newborn, Kaegan had passed the baby to the safe hands of one of her healers. Needing some rest before she could meet the day, the process of birth having drained her energy.
When she woke, it was time to feed again. Still tired, she looked past her own fatigue to really look at her baby for the first time. They had told her it was a boy, and that he was healthy, but she for some reason hadn't believed them until she saw him with her own eyes. On the slightly larger side, Kaegan couldn't help but wonder what she had eaten to make him that big. Of course, she had a feeling that her diet had in no way effected it, but a little one sided humor was what she needed at the moment. Pink and soft, despite having the wrinkly skin that newborns seemed to always have, the baby- her baby, couldn't be more perfect in her mind. His head was covered with a thin, almost invisible layer of blond hair and his large doe like eyes were a soft blue. Although they were bound to change, her family having a history of hazel eyes and his father having had brown.
/You only had one hatchling./ You make it sound like you're disappointed. /No, I was just expecting at least one more. Though, I suppose I should have taken Jingth's rider as an example. She only had one as well./ Huh. Kaegan chuckled slightly as she moved her baby to her shoulder, patting him gently on the back. /So what have you decided to name the little squawler?/ Kai.
