They needed to stop changing the Infirmary Rotation. If anything could be seen on E'rro's face it was a healthy dose of annoyance. They not only extended his shift four extra hours (from which he left almost immediately afterward for exhausting wing drills), but now he had to share a shift with Kalierre. That woman had a way of eliciting wariness from him. Perhaps wariness isn't the correct word. No it was more like... apprehensiveness. It probably stemmed from the fact he wanted to make sure he didn't disappoint the Greenrider. After-all she had been the one to approve his Apprenticeship when he was so new to the Weyr and for all intensive purposes had been his "first" real mentor in the world of Dragonhealing. Or maybe its because of the different poisons Ka'rys was asking them to get generally immune to. Whatever the reason, he tried to keep out of her way as much as possible. Stalking over to the pegs on which they hung their gear the Brownrider muttered something inaudible to anyone but himself. After subconsciously locating the peg with his name scrawled above it on a small square of cloth, he removed his shoulder bag and hung it up. Next came his safety belt, goggles and Riding jacket, which he placed on the peg in the order he took them off. With the exception of his goggles, of which he placed in the inner pocket of his jacket. The next things to do were signing in and scrubbing down.
Ermine, if there is no conflict I wish to remain on the landing ledge for a while. Whatever you want to do Isma is fine, you know all the rules already. Just move as far as you can to the side in-case there is an emergency. Yesyes. I know. Shuffling his wings the almost dun colored Dragon yawned, curling up close to one side of the ledge even before His had finished speaking. Ismaroth was feeling a bit lazy tonight and really didn't feel like flying back to his Weyrledge and unlike his human he really didn't mind the schedule change. It gave him more time to sleep before drill practice in the morning.
Wash wash wash your paws. Nuisance's horrible singing voice echoed through E'rro's mind, making the corners of his lips twitch upward in a small smile. Over the years he had grown closer to the little Blue 'Mandyr, he now would even (grudgingly) admit that he cared about him despite the Chasing and the stealing of shinny trinkets. Nuisance had proved to be a good help around the Infirmary and honestly, E'rro would have a hard time living without the little annoyance. All things set aside, the Blue was good at coaxing the good-side out the grumpy Wingsecond. He flicked the remaining droplets of water off of his hands as he responded to Nuisance, his mood slightly better now that the Salamandyr had taken it upon himself to lighten it. Hands dried and time ticking slowly by led E'rro to check the charts of all two of the Ichor based patients. Since neither of them needed an hourly check up nor did either of them have to take medicine until later in the night, the Brownrider was left to his own devices. Which, because he was a dutiful learner, meant he was allowed to continue reading the healing scrolls he had been working through. Because he had chosen to specialize it meant a lot more reading into that particular subject.
Dragging a chair over to the desk where the night attendant sat, he plopped himself down and crossed his legs jumping straight into the scrolls and paying the surprised night attendant no heed. Nuisance on the other hand decided talking to the pretty girl was much more entertaining than trying to get His's attention. Ermine was never much fun when he was reading words from the dead pieces of tree. Never taking his eyes off of the page the Senior Apprentice rolled up his sleeves revealing the black skin tight, light weight material he wore under his clothing. A gift from M'ta who understood most of E'rro's dislike for all things tactile.
Now if only he could simply read until the candles told him it was time to see to the patients...

Staring was a bad habit. So Raebeli countered it by glancing around the room every so often between long looks at the fellow healer. Loopholes seemed to make the world go round, or at least helped out with the mindhealer's cause. Studying she was, not only the hides sitting out in front of her, but the man who had intrigued her for as long as she had known him. Well...not known him per-se, because she wasn't his best friend or anything of the sort, but the woman did work with him enough to know that he had some...neurotic ticks that gave her more than a second glance, but up until now she hadn't dared even approach him about it. The process seemed so...cold.
Instead she picked up all of her supplies and headed over towards the already crowded desk that E'rro had taken up, and while she wasn't as pushy or obvious as to also pile onto the table, she did pull up a chair close to where the candle burned and was already armed with a somewhat plausible excuse for this bout of friendliness, "My glow died...I hope I am not imposing on you..." the corners of her lips perked up at the statement. Oh yes, she was well aware of how to charm the pants off of somebody to get what she wanted. It was a rather rare method for her, she never wanted to think of herself as being conniving, though her particular discipline was one of a few mental tricks...and so the sweetness on her face did not let up, "I know how precious space is in this place, and everyone has their own limits on their little bubble...spatial proximity is such an interesting subject..."
She trailed off and looked at her notes. Oh look at that, just so happened to have something of the before mentioned in her studies. It was certainly then pure coincidence that she had brought it up at all. Raebeli would never go as far as do some diagnosing from afar... Just keep looking down at all of that work Rae, don't go sticking your nose, "How about you E'rro? Not the touchy feely, cuddling close type are you?" Not that there was anything wrong with that, she didn't want to sound like she was accusing the guy, and besides, an enemy in the infirmary was the last thing she wanted to make, or well an enemy anywhere wasn't on her list of things to do.

Footsteps and the scrape of a chair was hard not to ignore in the quiet that was the infirmary. When he was addressed E'rro removed his focus from his scrolls long enough to make some space for the mindhealer's materials. He made a noise of absent agreement when she mentioned something about something being an interesting topic of study. The Brownrider honestly had no interest in Raebeli's line of work, he could see the use of Mindhealing yes but he rarely gave it any more thought than that. Uncrossing his legs to cross them in the opposite direction, E'rro rested his cheek on his fingers and shifted into a slightly more comfortable position. And when the woman directed a question at him he resisted the tempting urge to sigh. Why Raebeli couldn't have used one of the other desks? The only reason he came to this one was because he was on good terms with the night attendant, she had yet to do anything that annoyed him and knew that he preferred silence to chatter. But the mindhealer. She was one of those females who liked talking and company, he too had studied all those who he worked around. She had not been an exception.
The Dragonhealer tilted his head up a fraction of an inch so he didn't have to look so far up to affix his gaze on Rae. "No Miss Raebeli." He looked back down. "Not many Riders trained in the North are." There were exceptions of course. Like T'san. That man annoyed E'rro to no end but he put up with it because for a while the other Brownrider had been his Wingsecond. Unrolling the scroll a little more, he inspected the drawing of the muscular structure of a Wher. Stifling a yawn behind his hand, he resettled his head against it afterward. He had already read this particular scroll so the question was; Why was he reading it again? Whers gave him trouble. Especially when it came to their muscles. He'd spent many a long shift or hour working on memorizing the different problems and cures for deep tissue injuries, often coming out of those sessions with ruffled hair and a ragtag appearance. He was on the verge of being able to recite most of the harder wher-specific diagnosis and symptoms, but he still had a way to go.
Crawling over to the new female who sat down Nuisance chirped at her, disappearing each time he passed into the shadow of a scroll. Momentarily lost from sight, the dark Blue reappeared on top of Raebeli's notes and broad casted openly. Hello-lo mindlady! Read time, Study time, like Mine? Sitting back on his hind legs Nuisance flapped his frill once and tilted his head. He looked downward from his vantage point and spied a letter he knew very well. EN! Scurrying over to it, he pawed at it and looked pleased with himself. His had told him that this black squiggle was an EN and that his name started with an EN. EN for Nuisance! From over behind his scroll, E'rro responded to the Blue. "Good-job Nui."

Ok, she'd be a liar if she didn't kind of expect answers like that one, although calling her Miss Raebeli was frankly adorable and she was half tempted to tackled him i a hug right then and there. Thank Faranth she kept herself together for the sake of this deep and intensive investigation of the E'rro psyche. Those pretty blues of hers stayed down on the study material in front of her as she idly chewed on the end of a stylus for a while, pretending to be very deep in thought...which she sort of was.
The young man didn't tell her that she was invading, though she got the distinct feeling that she was. There was no noticeable body gestures or anything of the sort, but he wasn't very welcoming either which was just enough to let her know what was up. Call it vibes if you will. Still, not one to be put off by a few colder tendencies she replied briefly with, "Oh yes, spent quite some time in the Fort infirmaries, though usually the injured were appreciative of the occasional pat on the shoulder..." she sat quietly for another moment to flip a page and chew on her writing utensil for another moment before adding, "Of course everything varies under the circumstances...."
She took a brief look at him again and noticed the black material sticking out from his rolled up sleeve, "An extra layer of skin I take it?" She gestured at him with a smile, before having her attention drawn to the little talking thing. More than happy to talk to the blue mandyr, she glanced around the room to assure herself that Cap'n was roosting and not plotting to make Nuissance into a snack before continuing. Oh the darter would be so jealous, but she couldn't ignore someone or anything, "Study time indeed! You've been studying too then I take it?" An eyebrow raised at him. So clever to be able to pick out letters, though she wasn't exactly sure how common this was for the species.

In the silence that proceeded the woman speaking again, E'rro was able to scratch down a third of the muscular structure. The Brownrider had turned sideways in his seat so that he could use the flat surface of the desk to guide his drawing. Because he was prone to mistakes when copying pictures it was being drawn with charcoal instead of ink. Running a finger gently along the original drawing E'rro slowly began to recreate the curving line pausing for a brief moment when Rae spoke again. As she continued so did he, half concentrating on what he was doing and what she was saying. "Aye, but I'm not injured." A pause, he frowned at a particularly intricate part of the drawing. "Nor was I brought up at Fort." Indeed he had not been. Benden was famous for the cruelties suffered there, while Fort was more pristine and militaristic. His back and face could attest to that. In fact most of the scars on his body had come from his years at the Northern Weyr, while only two or three from Selenitas Battles. Long strokes of his hand showed he had reached the back and abdomen section of the Wher, although soon the smooth lines turned into choppy short ones. The Wings were always the hardest part.
"I dislike working in heavy layers. This is flexible and lightweight." He checked his drawing. "Multiple, thinner layers suit my training better and leaves less surface area to grab when sparing." All of what he said was true, even if he left out the main reason for it. E'rro scraped a line out with the side of a nail before itching the side of his face and offering Rae a courtesy glance. She was doing a poor job hiding the fact she wanted something from him. Her posture wasn't entirely relaxed and so far her line of questioning and speech all related to touch. He could only draw the conclusion she was curious about his particular habits. The Brownrider should have guessed a mindhealer was more adept to puzzling things together. More than once his mask had slipped when it came to dealing with human healing, a facial expression here and a hesitation there. He placed the blame on Selenitas's generally calm environment and the lack of needing to show little emotion. With the slips combined with the relatively slow activity they had during the night... it didn't bode well. If she got annoying (more of course than she was right now) he'd figure a way out of the situation. But for now, he'd let her have her fun.
Nuisance nearly basked in the female's praise. Well, at least he'd like to think it was praise. Flicking up his frill he crooned. Hard! But I did good. His frill settled back along his neck, although he poked out his tongue to clean an eyelid. Jumping off of her scroll he glided over to the candle and scuttled over to E'rro, climbing up his arm he took his perch on the tall man's right shoulder. Mine help. He show me EN. E'rro, who was eavesdropping, reached up to itch the Salamandyr under his chin. "It was more along the lines of him wanting to know what 'words' said, so I showed him his name. Nuisance forgot most of it, but he was able to retain the letter N." The Brownrider had leaned in closer to the table to work on the muscular connections located around the talons on each foot. He wasn't an artist in the least, but the pre-drawn outline on the scroll helped him greatly.

She was distracted from her conversation with the salamandyr by the answers from the ownered. Oh. Well she hadn't meant anything by the comment, and she certainly didn't mistake him for a Fortian...the communication mix up probably only worked against her as the two Northern factions still hated each other immensely. She could only imagine how big of a...a no-no she made with the mention of her own origins. What else was there to say other than oops under her breath and look down to hide her slight blush. Candle light in it's warm orange glow at least did a little bit to downplay the red hues. Either way she would rebound however, the girl always had that kind of chutzpah.
"Oh I see, wouldn't want you to get....grappled," and that was it. The mindhealer couldn't find too much to work with from there and for an instant she worried that she might actually have to go back to real studying. Which of course meant she would have to switch books because for the past sevenday she read the sharding things just preparing for this whole conversation. Raebeli was genuinely surprised it wasn't going the way she had planned, and the safer route seemed to be to - only briefly - switch matters back to the salamandyr she had just met.
"You did do good..." she had to consciously stop herself from using a higher pitched baby talk sort of voice, it was such a natural desire when speaking to animals and technically arguable that at times effective in the exchange of affection, but it was not Nuisance she was worried about offending as much as E'rro who she had obviously already taken large strides at annoying, "You are so non-chalant about this..." she mentioned in response to the rider's modest explanation , "Always so humble about everything my dear?" The my dear part was unintentional, but she wasn't exactly remorseful for blurting it either, "Not that there is anything wrong with that... A good trait it is..." she added almost sing songy.

The blush did not go unnoticed, but the intensity was unknown. E'rro suppressed the urge to smile. When he finished the head of the Wher the Brownrider rolled the scroll up and put it in a different pile, he would take it home with him later. Done with the original he cleaned that up as well before pulling a small leather bound book from under the first pile and flipped it open, dipping his quill in the inkwell and notating something on a free line. "Yes, grappling is quite unfortunate. Since it usually results in you getting thrown or 'killed'." He said the last word in such a way that made sure he didn't mean the most literal sense. When sparing you scored 'kills' by preforming moves that would, if executed with intent, might have killed your opponent. E'rro inked his quill once more and continued writing for a few moments. Noting the date at the top of the page he blew on it gently until it dried then closed it and set it to the side.
He focused his attention on Raebeli and sat back in his seat, it was obvious he wasn't going to get much studying done. He did set up a scroll in case there was a break in the questioning but for some reason he didn't think there would be. "Is there a reason to be anything but?" That was in response to her comment about his 'nonchalant-ness'. "Humility has little to do with it. If I need to I will exaggerate or I will underplay my abilities. Though I find that the plain and simple truth works better for building respect." Recrossing his legs, the Brownrider returned to the position he had been in before he had begun his drawing, propping his head back against his fingers and his free arm across his lap. His gaze though, was no longer on the scrolls. No, their full intent were on the mind-healer. "So no, I'm not always humble. But sometimes its the most prudent thing to be."
He bobbed the tip of his boot as he offered Raebeli a smile, but it was one that didn't reach his eyes. Polite, nice even but not entirely warm. It was the smile he gave to the worried partners of the creatures he worked on. "Don't concern yourself over the comment about Fort. I am not offended and I have been here at Selenitas far too long to hold the fact you are from there over your head." E'rro made a small gesture with the hand in his lap. "A few of my Wingriders are ex-Fort, so there should be no reason to dislike you." An innocent statement but if she was perceptive she'd get the underlying message, 'unless you make me'. If Raebeli could pick up his nuances when it came to his condition, she should have also noticed he wasn't the most friendly person in the world. Polite yes, concerned about the injured, but rather chilly otherwise. An observer as well. Even he would admit his personality came from his upbringing, though he wouldn't deign to change it. It worked for the everyday, and when he needed to be softer then he let down his barriers. A simple call and response reaction.
A thought passed through his mind, he retrieved a small sheaf of paper from the top of the desk and began folding it in a practiced motion not having to look down all that often. "What about you Miss Raebeli, are you always so... chirpy?" The woman reminded him much of a bird. A meadowlark perhaps...
Nuisance crooned at the woman, he liked her so far. He'd seen her around but never interacted with her, but now he would. Maybe she'd entertain him when he was bored and his was being even more boring. For now though, he'd listen to this conversation the two humans were having. The blue did agree with His on the bird thing though.

Despite the special emphasis on the term kill, she still quirked an eyebrow at the word for a moment despite not having a particular reason why. Death was something she was used to and accustomed to after being in the healing arts for so long. Often the girl was confused for someone that was sensitive and prone to fits over the concept, but her sunny disposition was hardly even rained on by the sometimes cruel lifestyles of the northern riders. It was their business she supposed, and she treated the aftermath with a somber but unshaken veneer. Not that she was beyond shedding a few good tears when she returned to her room, but like she said before...it was all circumstantial.
"Well there is no reason for you to personally be boastful, but the watching audience sometimes enjoys a good laugh when they see a braggart fail..." Rae at least had that much to offer. Did she prefer the more reserved? Yes, yes she did. But the more bold in tongue always had a way of keeping life that much more interesting, and she appreciated their failures just as much as their successes. Mindhealer she may be, but she was not above watching a trainwreck in progress.
Not that E'rro was a trainwreck at all. Actually he was doing something she had been hoping for this whole time: he looked right at her, he gave her his undivided attention. When she had to work for it like she did it made her feel just a tad honored and a little bit proud of herself. There was always something a little more rewarding after succeeding with a challenge, though the brief moment of victory was broken by her own utter surprise. He had apparently caught on to her embarrassment, which in turn didn't do much to stifle it, but the issue simply couldn't be ignored, "Oh...thank you..." She mentioned back to the man with as little inflection as she could muster. Raebeli wasn't quite sure that thankfulness was the right response considering his comment read oddly differently than mere forgiveness, but it is all she had to offer before he called her....
Chirpy. Chirpy? What in the? She didn't even...chirpy? She could hardly be offended when she was plainly just more confused than anything; made very obvious by the rare furrowing of her brow and a curious bite of her stylus. The utensil was likely to be littered with her teeth marks at the rate that this was all going, "I um..." She considered her own darter. He kind of chirped? Maybe he thought she sounded like Cap'n? Or maybe it was just a reference to all of her pep? Well no matter what it meant, it was apparently his term for how she acted all the time, and while she knew of her own personal mood swings she didn't expect everyone else to detect the nuances and replied, "Yeah I suppose so...are you.....comparing me to a bird?" She was not without her vanities and subconsciously felt around her nose. Hopefully it wasn't very beak like.

"I suppose." He didn't often get much enjoyment out of watching a boastful person fail, yes he would smirk or on occasion grin and shake his head, but it wasn't really funny per say. It was more of a disgusted amusement. E'rro hated people who were like that and never learned from their mistakes. Never learned from falling face first into the dirt or getting set on their ass. It was appropriate punishment, but still it wasn't laughter inducing. To each his own. The Brownrider had a more dark sense of humor, often light airy jokes were lost on him. He got the silly, nonsense jests but just didn't find them funny.
As he put the final folds in the paper the Dragonhealer bounced his foot again. "Yes, a bird. Not in looks mind you." Pulling the paper taunt in certain places, E'rro inspected it before leaning forward and placing the paper Crane in front of Raebeli without explanation. He sat back and continued. "A meadowlark actually. Have you seen one? They are a very old breed of avian, their origins are said to date back before Dragons existed. They are small, only about this big -" Using his middle finger and thumb the Brownrider stretched them apart to the approximate height of the bird. "- and are brown, white and vivid yellow. They have a beautiful song and sing often." The rhythmic tapping of his shoe stopped. "But its not what they look like, its how they act. Unlike other larks, these are social creatures and from what I've seen, interact with other avian species well. Cheerful, gentle. Meadowlarks often perch on fences to watch humans as they pass by and they aren't easily startled by us either." What he knew about the birds came from years of Junior Apprentice work, collecting herbs and other medicinal plants that only grew in the summer or spring. When these particular birds were the most active.
Nuisance decided he obviously needed to help, so he took the image from His human's mind and projected it at Rae. Birdylark. See, see? E'rro sighed and quickly distracted the Salamandyr with itching under his chin. Silly thing. Nui had been such a good sport lately, what with all the shifts he had to cover and having to get up in the middle of the night- or day, since that was when he slept the most, honestly he thinks he should be an honorary member of the Night Sentinel - the little Blue was still happy as ever. Although he did get a little moody when he heard Kalierre's Bronze was going to share the Infirmary on one of "his" times. Suddenly remembering the third person of their little study group, the Wingsecond leaned closer to her. "Have you made rounds since the shift change?" The girl shook her head. "Would you, please?" Although getting up to check on all of their Human patients would have taken him away from Raebeli, he didn't feel like dealing with the sickies at the moment. Watching the girl as she got up to do rounds, E'rro turned back to Rae when the attendant was out of sight.

Raebeli was almost distracted from his explanation with the appearance of the paper crane. Neat, she thought, and picked up the origami to lightly prod at it here and there. Ever curious she was, and every fold was examined as if she was preparing to some day replicate the design herself. As he spoke the imagery imprinted itself onto the paper sculpture and the mindhealer could easily begin to conceive the creature he was speaking of, though she - from memory alone - could not think of a time that she had ever ran into a meadowlark. Avians had not ever been an expertise of hers, or at least not before she inherited Cap'n, but the big predatory darter wasn't exactly a lot like the rest of their brethren.
So this was all a compliment right? She assumed that it must be since nothing that the man described seemed objectively negative. A small creature with vivid yellow coloring and a beautiful song? They are social and gentle and watch people without getting startled? Hmmm well she always thought she was the type to be easily surprised so she wasn't quite sure that the last characteristic really made for a great parallel but the rest seemed to be a very apt comparison...which of course pleased the girl. It was evident on her face as she subtly perked up; eyebrows curled up a bit and hid behind the fringe of her short bangs. Gone was the former befuddled expression.
The mindhealer returned the paper crane to its home with a light and ginger hand, just incase the brownrider might wish to reclaim his handiwork, "Talented," she commented first before making any other assessments. Admittedly should he leave the hand made bird in his wake, the thing would become hers and added to her ever growing knick knack collection. Another souvenir from Selenitas Weyr it would be (she was convinced that good things could not last, and that this posting down south was only one of many). Propping up her head and cradling it in her recently freed hands, she carried on in her birdy ways, "Thank you. I'm taking it as a compliment. I'll let you know when I come up with a special term for you..." She trailed off as the attendant took off to do the rounds. Curious it was that he wasn't retreating to do it himself.
"When'd you learn so much bout song birds? Can't imagine, or rather I was always told, that a pretty thing like that couldn't thrive in Benden..."

He watched silently as the Mindhealer inspected the little bird, she seemed so intensely curious about it. In fact he half expected her to pull it apart so that she could see how it had been created. E'rro wouldn't have minded if she had, it was a trivial thing that he could always remake later if he wished to. If Raebeli didn't want the Crane it would go into the trashbin, he didn't need another one. The only reason he kept the one he had was that the paper he had made it out of had a pattern that looked like feathers. It now resided on the mantel of his fireplace. "Not really. I have seen children fold other, more complex animals from paper, I only know how to make this crane." He almost itched his left shoulder, only to remember that Nuisance was still there. The Blue had been quiet for a while now so he had probably fallen asleep. The salamandyr had one thing he was really good at. Sneaking. Sneaking and hiding, his particular coloration helped in that manner. Dark blue, almost black he could blend into the shadows and he was stunningly silent. Even for a salamandyr. It was as if Nuisance had the abilities of a Master thief, but only liked retrieving shiny baubles.
He raised an eyebrow at what she said but made no verbal addition. Special name? He had never said he would call her Meadowlark, simply stated he was reminded of one. He doubted he could dissuade her from coming up with one, he had a feeling she'd agree only to find one and use it as her own personal name for him. What a bother. "They can't. The climate around Benden is too harsh. The southern most coasts maybe. But not where it snows." He shifted his position to one that was more comfortable. "I have lived here at Selenitas for five Turns, ever since the Benden Dominance Display." He shrugged. "I know meadow larks so well only because I saw them often in the summer. When you are a Junior Apprentice here one of your duties is to go out and restock the medicinal herbs that can be found close by. That is when I was able to observe them."

"That one crane is more than I can make E'rro..." she said to him with a touch of humor. The look in her eyes were a window to turning gears in the brain. He was still just E'rro for now, but any time now a new designation could be bestowed upon him. More importantly she was taking note again of his modesty and filing away the little personality tid bit into her mental case study of the brownrider. Oh yes she'd be checking in on him again and again. It was the only way, she reasoned, that she could get to him since he seemed to only permit so little of himself at a time. Not that she should be so surprised; being adverse to touch also went hand in hand with keeping other aspects of your life to yourself as well. Usually.
"The Benden Dominance Display?" she quirked an eyebrow. Such a unique and formal sounding way of putting it. It didn't take her long to figure out that he had meant the siege, but she still was taken back if only because this was the first time she had heard it referred to as anything but "the siege". She hardly could be too offended, since after all she wasn't here for that one, "Ohhhh that. Yes, I've only been here a couple of Turns myself. Took me a moment to catch up..." she paused before turning her attention back to darters, "but I see yes, I guess those folks told me correctly then. The weather I would say must be one of the best things about living down here..."
And then she laughed with the thoughts of the most ironic comment she could make, "Even if the people are a bit touchy..."

He flicked his hand and gave a shrug of his shoulder. "Yes but its easy to learn. If you like it and be come interested in the folding, you very well might progress onto other animals. Therefore, becoming more talented than I. Sometimes it only takes a little push to get a hobby started." A thought struck him and silently eyed the woman sitting across the way. The Brownrider had not talked this much and so freely to anyone in a long time. There were few people who could chide him into talking so much, and most of them were on his wing. This woman had been able to break past barriers with him not even noticing. Their talk was trivial, yet it was still a talk one that could even be considered pleasant between two relatively new acquaintances. E'rro resisted the urge to smirk at himself instead using the need and turning it into crossing his legs in the opposite direction. He had been underestimating Raebeli's abilities which he should not have been doing from the start. She was a Journeyman Mindhealer, not some apprentice. He didn't mind talking to her like this but he realized he needed to formulate his words with more caution when it came to certain things.
"Ah yes, that is what Benden called it. 'The Dominance Display.' I do not believe Selenitas ever gave it a name. This attack happened two turns before The Siege in 3012." He paused. Had he really been here that long? Honestly it hadn't felt at all like it. Maybe it was because the Turns blended together for him, having started out on life so much younger than needed. Either way he'd been down here for a good portion of his teenage life. "The weather here was something to get used to. But this last summer and this winter are... strange. I've lived here five turns and have never seen anything as hot or as cold as it has been. I do hope that this climate shift is not permanent, otherwise we could be in a sticky situation. Already I can see damage in the herbs and roots we need for healing." The young Dragonhealer rested against the back of his chair tapping his fingers together with an idle grace. "Indeed, the weather is pleasant when its playing nice and not throwing tantrums."
"One adapts. Like the weather, people down here are much warmer than those in the North." And by adapts, he meant meets T'san. Either that man simply liked touching or he did it merely to annoy E'rro into threats. The other Brownrider was... interesting. Hyper maybe. Despite being so, as Raebeli put it 'touchy', T'san was one of the few who were the closest things to friends that the Wingsecond had. They might as well be friends, but E'rro refused to call them such or acknowledge them as such if only to save him some pain if one of these people were killed in an attack. It was selfish, but it was something that he allotted himself. "Do you like it here Raebeli? Or does the Healer Hall hold more fascinating people than us Southern folk?"

Raebeli was Selenitas history disabled. She figured everything that Benden did was a dominance display, some kind of weird obsession with their own machismo perhaps ultimately making up or compensating for some sort of emasculating failure in turns long past. This was partially a Fortian bias, but then again some things from the Healer Hall ran true and she couldn't help but put obvious facts together, however shaky they may be. However, she wasn't in the place to be putting together theories and cause and effect models of Benden agression. This was about listening to E'rro and she was determined to do a good job of it.
After all, he was increasingly willing to just open his mouth and talk to her. The mindhealer's devious plans were working all too well. Good thing she wasn't an evil mad scientist, E'rro and half the weyr would be sooooo screwed.
"I had no idea..." Raebeli admitted to the brownrider, slightly embarassed about her ignorance. It really couldn't be helped though, and so she was quick to shrug it off and carry on with the conversation and the pedestrian topic of weather and Southern comforts among other things, "Tantrums indeed, I never knew that it could get cold down here," she said getting slightly more animated with a bit of a quirk to her eyebrows, "I was told that this was the tropics, that there were jungles, and that it was warm all the time, and really how could one refuse such an assignment?" He giggled a bit, they also told her some not so great things. Warnings one could say, and her arrival to the south was then tainted by those mixed opinions, "Of course, they also told me that it was backwater, that everyone lived in trees, the native people were toothless and slow, and that there were weird animals with frills that talked real loud. I know now that only part of that was true..." she smiled. There was no doubt that when she arrived the people did live in trees and that there were salamandyrs a plenty.
"All in all though, I really do like....love...the people here. So you can say I do like it. Makes the Healer Hall drab in comparison," but Raebeli contemplated her future though quite often, and she couldn't say either way if she ever planned on staying in the South forever. There was a world to see, and she hoped to get a little sight of everything some day. It was in this way that being a journeyman did appeal to her, "I do hope. Sort of. That maybe I can go North again some time? I don't know, just a sort of fleeting thought. I guess it probably wouldn't be too good of a place still with the war and all. Not that anyone is really escaping it down here."
