Dorava felt a little self concious. Okay ... more than a little. It'd been ages since she'd worn a dress. Any kind of dress. The last gather at this very hold, to be presice... and that had been a simple, no nonsense dress. But that was not what she was wearing now, oh no.
What had possessed her to buy the thing?? In bright reds and blues, and really well made to fit her, it really was a pretty thing. And she did like it. Though ... she kindof preferred looking at it and trying it on in secret than actually wearing it out where people could see her. It made her feel very ... not her. She couldn't even really describe the feeling!
But here she was, wearing it, and at the gather, no less. Val was along, really liking that her new frilly dress was half his color ... made it easy for him to fit right in! A little more flexible now, he was wrapped firmly around her wrist with frill blown wide open. Blue, yes, he was blue! See? Just like her dress! He looked a lot like a peice of jewelry, like that, especially since he faded out from sapphire to white along his body.
Not really sure what to do with herself, Dorava picked at one of the gathers near one hip, and looked forlornly at the gather around her. What to do??

Sel’n stood a few feet away, nursing his feline wounds. Stupid kitten. At least she was R’wgin’s problem now. Vanity was sleeping happily in his sling, worn out and full to bursting. The little green monster had learned that most holders where happy to feed and stroke her, if she showed herself. After all she was a unknown to them and she had taken full advantage of the benefits. Examining the crowd the rider flicked his gaze here and there before resting it on Dorava. His eyes widened. Faranth she was…well stunning. Kaaoloth’s amusement flowed through their bond as he saw Dorava through Sel’n’s eyes. See Selmine aren’t you happy I told you to wear blue?
Sel’n shook his head as he examined himself. Kaaoloth had pressed him to wear his blue tunic with the white embroidery and black loose fitting slacks. In all honesty he looked good. The shirt was bright and colorful, which was a change from his normally sober wardrobe. You did it on purpose Kaaoloth, so we would match. The mans tone was accusing. The brown wriggled in amusement. Not fair for you to only blame me Selminelove. I had Aonith’s help. How else would I know what hers was planning on wearing. We wanted you to match. Go ahead, show her around she looks lost and you have nothing else to do.
What if she doesn’t want to see me? The fear Sel’n felt at that fact was new, and completely irrational. Kaaoloth snorted then and gave his a hard mental shove. She won’t be. Now go. Don’t make me come down there. But Vanity she’ll… She’s asleep and will likely stay asleep for awhile after stuffing herself like she has. Kaaoloth's quick retort had the rider shifting.
Finally giving into his brown's prodding Sel’n stood and smoothed his shirt in a unconscious display of nervousness. Striding up behind the green rider the Weyrlingmaster cleared his throat. “Dorava? You look stunning. Are you looking for someone?” He let the question hang and braced himself for her reaction. Hoping that it would be favorable. Kaaoloth snorted and eyed Aonith. Eloquent is he not?

Aonith giggled in a very green sort of fashion, eyes whirling quickly in amused colors. Very much, so. I hope mine doesn't have a heart attack! She commented. It was really silly ... every time the place had a gather, it was directly after Aonith herself was grounded. And it really wasn't fair! Unable to fly at all, she'd walked the whole way to get hers to the gather. Especially since Dorava had been so worried about anyong seeing her in that gat up. Well, now it was even better. She was at the hold in that get up. It really was amusing to the green, who was busily sunning in one of the feilds nearby. She wasn't inclined to move much, as her back was stinging from the walk from the Weyr. But it didn't stop her from being highly amused, and watching both with her own eyes, and through hers'.
Dorava fairly came out of her skin for a moement, when Sel'n spoke up. Flailing a little bit, she rebalanced and looked at him with pent up breath and wide eyes. And then her breath came out all in a rush. "Sel'n?" She asked, feeling very self concious now. Shards ... she probably looked like a clown, and was now acting like one!!
Oh, wait ... he'd said ... wait ... stunning. What was that supposed to mean? Was that a good-stunning, or a rediculous-stunning, or ... or ... or ...? "Um ..." She blushed so hard she almost matched the red parts of her dress. "Thanks." she said, barely audibly.
Was she looking for someone? Who would she be looking for? Oh, right ... she had been looking for him, and hoping the whole time not to find him. Really embarrassed, now, she looked all over the place, and then back at him again, before blushing yet again. "Ahhhh ... I was, actually. Unfortunately, he found me first?" she offered, voice terminating in an unsure squeak. ACK! What ever possesed her to do this?? "Hi." She said, trying again.
And only then did she even begin to notice how he was dressed. And her eyes grew a little bit, before she grinned. "Very nice, Sel'n ... very nice. That is a very good color on you!" She praised ... partly out of honesty, and partly out of trying to make the center of attention something other than her.
Val felt a little dizzy, now, after the flailing was finally over with. But he did not fail to see that splash of green ... which could not be anything other than Vanity. With a chirp, he wound his way up Dorava's forearm, crawled up her shoulder, and then considered leaping to Sel'n, to go snuggle up with Vanity. Nevermind she was already claimed, Val was a hopeless sort. He'd had to choose which green to chase that day, and seeing as how it had been Vanity, he wasn't going to forget. Prettylove! He crooned, softly, aware she was sleeping. A whole new term he'd learned, that... and just for Vanity!

Kaaoloth rumbled in amusement. I certainly hope she doesn’t either. That would be most unfortunate. We wouldn’t be able to see them flail at each other. No I much prefer them both alive. It is amusing to see mine act like a young hatchling with his first crush again. The large brown shifted from his position on the hill and laid his head upon the fragrant grass. Closing his lids Kaaoloth watched with his bonded’s eyes. It was easier.
As Dorava flailed Sel’n stepped forward with an outstretched arm to catch her in case she fell. As the woman whirled around and exclaimed his name he gave a nervous smile. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.” He tilted his head as she blushed. Shards she was cute right now. The green rider’s next words though had Sel’n blinking in surprise, but he quickly recovered running a hand through his hair. “Ah well then it’s a good thing I did find you.”
Dorava’s comment on his outfit had him smoothing it nervously again. “It looks good on me does it? You can thank Kaaoloth for that. He obviously has a good eye for fashion, surprising isn’t it? A dragon who’s never worn a stitch is better at picking outfits than I am.” The Weyrlingmaster kept his voice light and teasing to try and diffuse some of the awkwardness he felt between them. He wanted things to be easy not charged. The brown rider offered his arm. “Shall we? What do you want to see first?”
Val’s words had Vanity stirring slightly in her sleep but she didn’t wake completely. PrettylovevanityLustlovelust. The green murmured before curling into a tighter ball. Sel’n winked at Val. “Go ahead chap she won’t bite when she’s sleeping. Curl with her if you want. As long as you keep calling her pretty love you’ll be safe from her waspish ways. Try Beau-ti-ful. She loves that one.”

Resting her chin on the ground, comfortably, Aonith rumbled in amusement. Closing her eyes, she basked in the warmth of the sun while still watching through hers. Interesting, yes! Silly hers was flailing around like a disoriented songbird. Amusing!
Dorava blushed all over again, but smiled brightly at the same time, the expression lighting up her whole face. Readily and easily, she took his arm. "Well ... I have a few marks to spend, yet. We can get kabobs, some pies, or something like that. Maybe listen to some songs, browse a little bit, I don't know. What do you want to do?" She asked, with a shrug. Whatever was good ... just getting out of the Weyr was helping a lot!
Vanity paddled his feet a little bit, and considered jumping across again, but then thought better of it ... again. He wasn't up to that. But then, when the two riders linked arms, his problem was solved. Scampering down Dorava's shoulder and over onto Sel'n's, the little blue quickly made his way down Sel'n's shirt to where Vanity was sleeping. Chirping, he sat down next to her and looked at her, before looking up at Sel'n for a moment. Bu. He attempted.
And then he looked down at Vanity again. Pretty pretty. Prettylove. Bu! Bu prettylove. He commented, before curling up around her possessively ... or as well as his banged up and splinted body would allow. He was a little disheartened at her mention of Lust, but ... the snippy bronze was not around, so, all the better! He could be Lust, for a day, he supposed...

Sel’n smiled as she took his arm. “Food sounds lovely. We’ll figure something out after that I suppose.” Looking into the gather crowd he smiled gently. “Perhaps we could go dancing this evening? You look light on your feet and we could show off your pretty dress.” Winking he moved forward, gently tugging her after. “So what exactly are you hungry for?”
Vanity merely twitched once as Val curled around her and kept to her nap. She needed her beauty sleep she did. Sel’n chuckled. “Val doesn’t have much of a vocabulary does he? Sometimes I wish Vanity was more like that.” Peering at the mandyr pair he shook his head. “It’s a good thing she’s to stuffed and sleepy to move. I won’t have to chase her down again. I don‘t know how I ever got attached to such a horrid creature. You got lucky with Val. I would rather have a shy one.”
Stepping into the food area Sel’n stopped and looked around the tables. R’wign had vacated the place. That was interesting. Hopefully he had found someone else to terrorize. Several of the other weyrling where in attendance however and he politely inclined his head to them before finding a suitable table.

Dorava smiled brightly. "I'd love to try dancing. I haven't done that ... in ... gosh. A long time! That would be wonderful!" And then she blushed all over again. Show off her dress? She felt rediculous in it, but apparently it was actually quite nice, despite her reservations. Well ... show it off they'd do, then! "Umm ... I don't know, really. So much smells so good. I guess ... whatever we happen upon, then!" She said, brightly.
"Val? Yes, he does have a limited vocabulary. He's not just shy, he's a slow learner. It takes him forever to pick up on a new word. It was months before he could say anything besides 'Val' and 'keep'. During a run, he picked up the words 'pretty' and 'love'. Somewhere he learned 'no'. Other than that ... I am not sure he'll be able to really learn the word beautiful, but we'll see! He likes to hide ... he's a little selfconcious." And now she knew just how that felt, too!
Val crooned happily, resting his head on Vanity's side, peeking past her at the world as it came visible. He was quite happy, now. He was with his pet, and yet still getting to cuddle with Vanity. He thought life was quite good, and couldn't get better! Pretty. Pretty. Val keep. Val keep pretty.
Dorava laughed. "He is starting to make a little sense with his words, though!" she said, before sliding into a seat at a table. "Oh, my. There are so many people around. And most of them I have no idea who they are ... it's been a long time since I attended a gather for anything other than shopping." She admitted, shyly.

“Good then dancing it is.” He smiled gently as he pulled a chair out for her. “Val learns words slowly? Shards you are lucky. If only Vanity was slow. Unfortunately she is terribly clever. “Shall I go get us something to eat? Your positive you have no preference at all?”
Vanity just curled tighter and didn’t move. If her cuddle buddy didn’t stop speaking she would give him a talking to she would. She was trying to sleep. Hissing under her breath she flicked her frill once before flattening it again.
Sel’n smiled down at Dorava. “That’s a shame you should get out more often. I’ll be right back with our food. Do you want Val to stay here? Many of the holders get nervous around mandyrs and for good reason I believe. Your pets aren’t exactly the most desirable creature on Pern. Vanity will stay asleep but I wouldn‘t want Val‘s words making people wonder.” He winked to her and kissed the top of her head gently. “I’ll be right back.”

Dorava beamed at Sel'n, and blushed slightly when he kissed the top of her head. "Alright. I'll keep him." She reached up and plucked the blue lightly from Sel'n's arm, out from around Vanity. Val dangled limply from her hand, looking quite dejected at having been removed from his snugglebuddy. She set him into the crook of her own arm, and stroked him once, before he clambered right back up her shoulder and perched there, staring after Sel'n retreating form.
No! Nonononono! Val keep! Keep Val! He practically wailed, before curling up right there and moping.
"She'll be back, Val. Don't worry. Now cheer up ... I'll give you some of my food if you do?" Dorava offered, hoping it would work. The little blue ignored her though, pointedly. She'd been the one to remove him, after all. His tail twitched in irritation, frill quivering as he tried to decide what to do. He wasn't quite capable of running off on his own, and he didn't want to be anywhere where he could get stepped on again. That was an event he wasn't liable to ever forget! Ultimately, Valiant just sat there and sulked, staring after Sel'n and Vanity.
Dorava, though, was quite happy. She had a friend to go out and about with, a promise of some dancing, and an outdoor lunch! How much nicer could the world get, at the moment? She folded her hands in her lap, and waited expectantly, eager to see what it was he was going to bring her. Suprises!!
