What is THAT?! Kindrith demanded, when E'yan turned up on the river with a sleeping Rascal directly after the hatching. He started in open horror at the little heap of brown that was nestled comfortably in the Harper's arms.
"This, my Kindrith, is Rascal." E'yan said, happily, stroking the little brown's back as he took a seat on a log near the river where the blue dragon was lounging.
Kindrith snorted. I hope you're planning on using it as fishbait. He remarked, not at all happy at that little bundle of sleepy brown.
"Not at all. He's my new pet. I just got him from Zessa's clutch." E'yan slid his big hand around the brown's body, and lifted him up out of the nest that was E'yan's arm. The flitter just dangled there a limp little thing, completely out of it he was sleeping so hard. E'yan's face quirked to one side for a moment as he considered the baby.
Kindrith reached over with his head, and gave it a sniff. Drawing away, he sneezed. Are you sure it's not dead? You told me you were going to go to the infirmary, not to get a stinking brown flitter! He protested.
"No, he's not dead! And you mean that trip that you refused to help me with?" E'yan replied, nesting the limp flitter back into the crook of his arm. "The infirmary was where Zessa had her clutch stored away. And the whole reason for going was to get this little guy."
But a brown?! Kindrith protested. Why, of all the little flitters his could have gotten, did he bring back something as wretched as a brown one? Was his trying to be mean?!
"Hey ... I can't control what color he is. And I personally really don't care. I'm happy with him just the way he is!" E'yan said, stroking the baby again and smiling slightly.
Kindrith sighed, and stretched out on the ground again, dropping his head on his wrists. I am not promising not to swallow him.
E'yan glared at the blue dragon. "You will do no such thing!" He ordered, firmly.
