Just for kicks. He had nothing better to do with his marks ... and he really was curious what was in some of those eggs. So E'yan found himself at the stall that was selling some of those dubious eggs. Some of them ... he wondered if they were seriously eggs. He had his doubts about them. Some of them looked more like something one would use with a length of wood, in a ballgame.
But he was feeling extremely frivolous today. And he had marks to burn. So...
He decided to buy. Not one, but two of those mysterious eggs. Just for kicks. And it turned out to be something terribly corny... like a tunnelsnake? He was sure that Rascal would be more than happy to eat it for him.
As it was, Rascal was hopping up and down merrily on his shoulder, chirping at every other flitter he could spy from that vantage point. E'yan had given him rather firm instruction to stay put on his shoulder. No running around amok in the stalls and causing harm. If he so much as twitched off of his shoulder, E'yan would refuse him any further trips to the Caravan.
So ... Rascal was trying really really hard to be good, and stay put. But that didn't stop him from bouncing up and down and being noisy.
E'yan looked around for the vendor, after eyeing those eggs again. Maybe if he changed his mind after buying them, he'd find some candidate somewhere who had no marks to spend to give them to. He was just in that kind of weird mood, today. And that was all there was to it.

The vendor wasn't very far away. The young man quickly excused himself from a game of catch he had been playing with the caravan children nearby and returned to his post.
"Afternoon sir!"
He greeted E'yan breathlessly, bushing tawny hair out of his eyes.
"See anything you like? Out little basket of mystery eggs is emptying rather quickly today."
A high, musical warble announced Lamb's presence as she fluttered down to land opposite Rascal on the rider's shoulder. She nuzzled the man's jaw affectionately, then fluted to her mate. Oh, what a lovely day it was to be outside! They were looking at eggs? Oh, eggs were lovely, weren't they?

Rascal fluted in reply, and broke his orders - but only a little bit. E'yan laughed, and patted on Lamb, with one hand after getting rubbed by the green. "Hello there, little miss." He greeted, as Rascal hopped into a short flight that took him from one shoulder to the other. Landing next to Lamb, in the limited space there, he flapped his wings a few times before gaining his balance. Warbling and cooing, Rascal nuzzled his lovely quite tenderly.
"I was thinking of buying two of those self same mystery eggs, actually." E'yan said, by way of greeting to the vendor. He knew what vendors liked: sell sell sell. And that was the best thing any vendor wanted to hear: interest in thier wares. "I hear some rather fascinating stories coming from this place." He said, with a grin.

The young man's smiled widened noticably as the bluerider mentioned hearing stories about the mystery eggs. It seemed that he was quite pleased that his stall was not only selling to the usual buyers, but drawing in other curious people as well.
"Oh really now? Most of them good I hope?"
Lamb nuzzled her handsome brown with plain affection, a pleasant hum resonating in the back of her throat. She liked the orangey egg, she decided as her eyes flickered over the basket. It seemed interesting. What did her Rascal think?

"Well..." E'yan started, with a slow drawl, eyeing the eggs in the baskets. "I heard one of them was hardboiled." He glanced at the vendor to see what reaction that might bring, before continuing on. "But I also heard one lucky soul ... or unlucky as it might be ... hatched out a gold flitter." The vendor ought to be happy to hear that.
"And... someone else got a chicken." He dropped, just for kicks. He was in a kicky sort of mood, today, apparently.
Rascal thrummed happily, leaning into the carress before returning one of his own. He thought many of them were lovely, and would steal any and all to give to her. And she could hatch out babies, too! Better than any Queen! Which one did she want him to steal for her?? He hopped up and down, glancing between her and the egg baskets. He was ready to dive and steal any one she wanted!! And he could always come back for a second, too!!

A visible lifting of his eyebrows made it obvious that the stallkeep was rather interested to hear that he was selling both hard boiled eggs and queen flitters out of the same basket.
"My, that really is news. "
The young man's voice was thoughtful as he offered E'yan an amiable grin.
"Two of them then? I hope ye'll let me know what hatches out of them. I might just turn this into a real game of chance if Weyrleader T'rid approves."
Lamb warbled nervously, pressing her forehead against her mate's shoulder as if trying to keep him from making a rash decision. Oh...it would be so lovely to have a little egg to take care of, expecially after having lost the babies Rascal had given her to that awful little green salamandyr and her hideous appetite...Oh, but stealing was bad. Oh no, she could never ask him to steal something for her. Hers would be so upset if he ever found out!

"Well ... if you're still here when they hatch ... or don't ... I might drop by and let you know." E'yan remarked, considering the eggs in the basket with a speculative eye. He really didn't want to get a hardboiled one. What a waste of marks that would be.
He reached into the basket, and picked up an egg. He held it for a moment, before changing his mind and putting it back. Selecting another, he held that one for a moment, and then nodded with an approving frown on his face. "This one will do, I think. And..." He considered the basket again.
And then jumped, when Rascal suddenly dived off his shoulder into the basket in a flurry of brown. "Hey!" the bluerider protested.
In the blink of an eye, Rascal swooped down off his pet's shoulder, into the basket, and scooped up the first handy egg that his little paws landed on. His Lamb would have an egg! Tucking the precious object close to his chest, Rascal leapt into the air again, and flew away through the air, up into the treetops and across the Weyr. All the way calling to Lamb to folow. He had an egg for her!!
E'yan stared after his flitter for a moment, and then looked at Lamb. "You put him up to that, didn't you?" He accused, though gently. It was a good thing he had been planning on picking up two. Though, he had been assuming that he'd be the one picking them out. Not Rascal.
Heaving a sigh, he looked at the vendor. "And that one, too, I guess. He ran away with it rather quickly ... I am not even sure which one it was." he remarked, apologetically.

Lamb peeped in alarm as Rascal shoved his way past her and dove for the basket of mystery eggs. Oh no! No, he must not take the nice man’s eggs without permission! Crooning her anxiety, the little green spread her mottled wings and leapt from E’yan’s shoulder, following after him as he flew away.
“Three eggs then?”
The stallkeeper seemed more amused than upset with the fact that one of his eggs had just been stolen.
“We’ll call it another mystery.”
Her Rascal must wait! Lamb warbled nervously, angling her wings to pull up alongside the sturdy little brown as he skimmed the treeline. Oh it was so very kind of her Rascal to get an egg for her...oh, but they had to give money to the nice man before they could keep it! That was what Hers had told her was the way trading worked. You needed to trade little bits of wood for what you wanted, and if...oh! Perhaps they could find some bits of wood to give the nice man? Then it would not be stealing!

"Three?" E'yan asked. He only had one egg picked out, Rascal had made off with another... whatever it was. And he had only planned on buying two. But ... well ...
The bluerider looked after his flitter, and scowled slightly. The little nuisance was getting too bold for his britches. If E'yan ever managed to catch up with Rascal, he was going to give the flitter a peice of his mind.
"Three." He eventally said, and looked at the bowl. No telling what those silly flitters were going to do with an egg. Eat it, more than likely. If they wanted an egg so badly, why hadn't they just gone to the kitchens?? E'yan selected one more egg out of the basket, and set it next to the first. "What do I owe you?" He asked.
Rascal, meanwhile, was suddenly realizing how much work it was to fly around carrying an egg. It gave him a tad more respect for the greens and golds, who had to fly around with lots of eggs in thier tummies. He peeped in alarm, as he almost dropped the egg, little claws scrabbling on the shell. Securing it once more, Rascal let out a sigh of releif. Whew. Almost dropped it. And from this height, that would be fatal!
He had to land somewhere .... somewhere they could stash thier egg and hatch it. He folded his wings, and angled downward at the first structure he saw. It just happened to be the archives, as he zipped in the door and up to the ceiling again. He circled breifly, before spotting a dandy place for a nest. At least, in his masculine little mind, it served well enough. He didn't know the first thing about nest building.
He dropped onto a sheaf of parchments on the top of a high shelf, and started scrabbling around in them, to wad them up into a shallow nest that would keep the egg from rolling off. Then he carefully and gently laid the egg down in the center of it. There! Nest made, and laid!
Rascal flopped down next to the egg, and stretched a wing over it, and peeped at Lamb, calling her over. They had to keep thier egg warm! He completely ignored all her admonishments about paying for it ... he had won it by conquest! It was thier egg!

“It’s fifteen marks...or whatever ye have. I’d hate to be the one to deny that couple an egg.”
Lamb was getting quite discouraged as she perched on a nearby bookshelf, watching her mate scrunch papers together into a roughly nest shaped wad. She eventually gave up on warbling her concern for the young stallkeeper they had stolen from, but the yellow in her eyes made it clear that she was still uneasy about the situation. Oh, Hers would not like this. He would not like it at all...oh, but she did not want her baby to get cold...
The little green cast a searching eye across the near-empty records room until she spotted what she had been looking for. With a purposeful little cheep, she winged down to gather up a small blue handkerchief someone had left laying on top of one of the desks. This she carried up to the makeshift nest -not without difficulty due to her tiny stature- and tucked in around the little egg to provide what she hoped was the same comfort her pet’s clothing trunk had offered their last clutch. Daintily, she settled herself down next to the egg opposite Rascal, resting her head lovingly against the mottled red shell. Oh it was such a lovely little egg...she had such a nice Rascal. They would take very good care of this one, and no awful salamandyr would hurt it. She only hopes that Theirs would not be very upset with them...oh, she would never want to make Hers upset...

E'yan frowned slightly. "I only have ten." He demonstrated this by emptying his pouch into his hand. "On me, at anyrate." He amended. "Tell you what. I'll buy these two eggs, here. And then I'm going to go find that Rascal of mine, and bring that other egg back here. Shouldn't be too hard ..." He didn't bother to mentiont that the two flitters were probably eating it as of now. "Does that work?" he asked.
Rascal, in the meantime, shifted away from the egg, to allow Lamb to tuch the bedding in around thier egg. And then he settled next to it again, hoping his body heat was sufficient to warm it through, with Lamb helping from the other side. Surely it would hatch! He warbled softly, reaching over the egg to nose Lamb's side tenderly. See? Now she had a nest again. And it was better than the first! Nice, big egg. And a nice high spot. And no mandyrs to be seen!
