Kemma HATED being idle. But Mellith had to eat sometime, and the Green had bullied her Rider into coming down to the feeding grounds with her, claiming that Kemma had been so busy lately that they hadn't gotten to spend any time together. It was true, too- that was what had gotten to Kemma in the end. She'd been spending so much time planning lessons and doing the enormous amount of paper work that went along with the constant turnover of candidates (not to mention the mess of papers the last Candidatemaster had left behind) that she'd been spending most of her time behind a desk, and Mellith had been stuck on her ledge, bored out of her mind.
So here she was, sitting idle, watching her Green dip and soar, stretching her wings and being unnecessarily picky about her dinner. Midnight was asleep in her lap; the darkly colored Blue had grown quite quickly, but he wasn't full sized yet, and still spent most of his time sleeping. Although he really was adorable, and Kemma knew it was probably good for her to relax and just do nothing every once in a while, she still resented his position a little- it meant she couldn't get up and pace without disturbing him, which she didn't want to do. Sweet, obnoxious little beast.
If only she had someone besides Mellith to talk to, she might feel like the time was slightly less wasted. Mell, of course, wanted to talk at any time, but today her prattle had begun to annoy Kemma so much that she'd pretty much blocked it out. The green was, at the moment, narrating her choices of dinner and detailing the reasons why she didn't select a heardbeast yet. Not, really, the most interesting of conversations, especially when you had to listen to Well, that one looks good, but I don't think it would be crunchy enough. See it? The one with the cute little puffy tail? It just looks... weak. Not really Kemma's cup of tea, to tell the truth.

I'm hungry. Cyanth commented randomly as he looked in the direction of the Feeding Grounds. The Bronze glanced at his rider to see his reaction and quickly defended himself. Well I am. P'nor snet another withering glare at his dragon as he slumped slightly in his chair. You ate-- Let me fix that. You /gorged/ yesterday, Cy. Why in the world would you want more food? You could get away from them Cyanth urged his rider as her heaved himself to his feet. Without a second thought, P'nor was out of his seat and quickly on the Bronze's back and the pair were in the sky and gone, but when the two emerged over the feeding grounds, P'nor felt his mood go sour. Cyanth! What? The Bronze asked innocently as he landed so that the man could dismount.
P'nor glared viciously at the Bronze before he glanced at the present Green's female rider. Talk to her if you know what's good for you, Mine. Cyanth warned sharply as he launched himself into the air. As the Bronze swooped over the panicking herd of beasts, he called out a greeting to Mellith. Hello, Mellith. How are you today? His voice was polite as the Bronze singled it out a herdbeast and droped like a stone. He landed heavily as he downed the large beast. Cyanth happily began to eat the best parts while he kept an "ear" open for what his rider was doing.
Meanwhile, P'nor had forced himself to approach the sitting Greenrider while silently cursing his Brozne for being such a sneak. He honestly hated these situations where he had to interact with women. "Hello, there, CandidateMistress Kemma. How are you?" Must you be so formal? Yes, you great lumox.

Mellith noticed the incoming Bronze long before Kemma did. Kemma did, however, notice that Mellith inexplicably turned off the internal monologue and started showing off, pulling unnecessary tricks in the air and glancing back over her shoulder every chance she got. Finally the Greenrider craned her neck around, tracing Mellith's backwards glance to- oh of course, a Bronze. Kemma's Green wasn't as bad as some when it came to males, but Mellith certainly had her preferances among the males of the Weyr, and what Green would deny the attentions of a Bronze?
As Kemma's head turned, though, her hair blew in front of her face- she hadn't even realized the day was windy until that moment!- and she couldn't see the Rider until he'd been dropped off to her left. By then she had managed to wrestle her hair back over her shoulder, and twisted it in a futile hope of keeping it out of her face. As he got closer, she identified him- P'nor, of course, her absent once-Wingleader. Many other riders she wouldn't have gotten up for, but... well, it seemed like she owed P'nor some respect, even if she was serving under S'rei now. Shards, after the way S'rei had treated her at their last Wing Drills, it gave her an odd, vindictive pleasure to greet P'nor formally.
So she stood before he got to her, smiling as she heard Mellith's energetic response to Cyanth- Hello, Cyanth! I am doing quite well, now that I've got someone to talk to other than Mine, followed by a steep dive to take down the biggest Herdbeast Mellith could spot, much bigger than really necessary. As she broke it's neck and began to chomp it down, she asked, And how are you, and Yours?
Kemma wasn't nearly so smooth when it came to P'nor. She was still smiling at Mellith's antics when he greeted her, but Midnight immediately flew in her face, chittering and squawking. Apparently the Blue wasn't done with his nap, and the usually easy-going Flit was not happy to be awake. Kemma attempted to beat him away and he dissapeared between, presumably to Kemma's quarters. "Hello, P'nor," she said, not even noticing that she'd forgotten a title in her exasperation, as she attempted to tame her hair once again. "I'm sorry about that display... he's not fully grown yet, and I'm still working on the training. Anyway..." the Candidatemaster gestured at the ground where she'd been sitting. "Care for a seat? Mellith will be out here for a while now, now that she's got someone to torment."
