Moving to this new Weyr had been a nightmare. Not only did he have to arrange for travel for dozen of injured people, but he had to get used to a whole knew layout of infirmary! The first part didn't bother him so much anymore. Despite his initial protests, he had to admit that keeping his patients in tents on the ground was hardly a permanent solution. The infirmary though, that really irked him. He'd barely gotten used to the one at Selenitas and now he had to learn the layout of this one and treat dozens of wounded! Really, they were asking a lot from a man so recently hijacked from the North.
Maybe it wouldn't have been so bad if this Burimyu place had been a little better stocked. They'd had supply issues, from what he'd gathered. That would be rectified in time, with proper relief coming from the Holds, but caravan's took time to travel. Grumbling to himself, Kyrstin sorted through the supplies for what he needed to do his rounds. "Sharding earthquakes and sharding idiot riders and their blasted dragons too!"

"Excuse me?" Raebeli piped up as she rounded a corner. The voice was honestly less than intimidating, she much too often tweeted like a little bird - hence E'rro comparing her to one long ago - but regardless she crossed her arms over her chest and tapped her foot with some degree of displeasure. What exactly was all this talk about sharding idiot riders and their dragons? Didn't he know better than to spew off such words around an infirmary full of those riders and furthermore, wasn't he a candidate himself? That alone was deserving of a needling, but the mindhealer herself wasn't all that capable of even being a tiny prick, "Kyrstin!" she began in a young but motherly tone, "You shouldn't talk like that, it's not becoming of you."
Sure she had to look up to chastise him, but she was hardly put off. Then of course it also helped that she had an avian with a wingspan the length of her arm perching upon her shoulder. Cap'n, miraculously made it out of the earthquake, thankfully due to she instinctive animal sense of impending doom, and made it back to his dearest after the fact. Raebeli was ever so thankful since... well the big predator for all his sharp talons and deadly looking beak was like her baby, she always had it as long as she had been in the south, before Quixoth even, and more importantly he did not abide by those who didn't treat her right. The puffing of his chest and the rustling of those golden feathers on the back of his head were a warning - don't test me.
While the mindhealer didn't see such cause for alarm - she moved to gently calm the bird with the brush of her hand down his back - she did find the younger healer to have something of an issue with, well, one of he more important parts of being a healer. Namely, that he lacked anything to make him personable, "You know a smile once and a while goes a long way. There is no reason to be surly and if you just make yourself think a little more upbeat your whole body responds..." I don't think it is something you can tell him dear. You need to show him. Leaves less room for interpretation. Ah, Quixoth was right. Suddenly she grabbed Kyrstin by the wrist and began to drag him off, "We're going to visit some patients methinks and do the rounds." She had to hope though that he didn't resist too much, the girl was after all sore still from her injuries; two fingers for instance bandaged together in a splint.

Kyrstin scowled, though he didn't bother looking at Raebeli. He hadn't realized he'd spoken loud enough for anyone to hear, much less any of the riders in question. Well, it wasn't like he would care if they hated him. Friendship wasn't necessary for his job and frankly he'd never had many of them in the first place. If he did, he was sure it wouldn't include nosy, female mindhealers. "Since you know nothing about me, I don't believe you're in a position to decide what becomes me or not," he returned flatly. Honestly, did women do anything except pry? He supposed it was a mindhealer's business, but he certainly didn't need it!
He collected the rest of his supplies and turned, but found it impossible to leave without meeting her gaze. Rather, the gaze of the rather large avian on her shoulder. He glared at it with a mix of distrust and subtle fear. That creature could not be sanitary! He resisted the urge to roll his eyes at her silly notions. "Smiling will not..." he began. Then Raebeli grabbed his arm. His eyes grew angry and he started to pull away, but two things stopped him. First, the avian might decide it was offense enough to bite of his nose, and two, if he damaged her fingers then he would probably have to fix them again himself and he had enough work to do already.
Kyrstin calmed his fury with a few deep breaths. Anger wasn't helpful either and he didn't normally allow himself to be riled. "Fine. You can do your mothering. Just don't get in my way." He could deal with that. She was a mindhealer, after all, being nice was part of that job. He just didn't see why it had to be part of his. Not even the Masters back at the Hall could convince him that being kind and understanding would magically make people heal faster.

Arguing over the most pedantic little things now wasn't he? Presumptuous too, for one didn't have to know a person on an intimate level to know certain facts about human nature. One of those things was that ill will and harsh words were not good for anybody and therefore unbecoming, even for him. Would she tell him this though? No, isn't she wryly smiled knowing that just letting him make the mistake of opening his mouth time and time again was going to answer a lot more of her questions about him than any forced discourse. A personal victory, as far as she was concerned.
"Smiling will too..." she insisted though, even as he started to squirm out of her grasps. She caught the glint of anger in his eye then, but didn't extinguish her apparent good spirits, instead pointing them out for himself and anyone within earshot, "You're so easily upset..." she tightened her grip around his wrists ever so slightly, before dropping her hold on him, "and your heartrate is up. I think we have a correlation. All this anger is going to wear out your heart," she winked at him before moving on. Cap'n was not amused by this boy and she could feel it with the way the avian's peeved chortles waved through to her shoulder.
Stepping forward she sauntered off to see the first patient on the roster. Luckily, most everyone had been filtering out of the infirmary these days, the only one's left were the unfortunate folks stuck with the broken legs and the like. It was easier to keep them on bed rest sometimes rather then let them attempt to hobble around this maze of a weyr. Leaning over the cot she asked the man in it, "Kyrstin right over there thinks that I'm being a fussy little hen apparently. Thinks I'm getting in the way. What do you think of that?" In her ever chipper voice it surely carried to the journeyman who wasn't far behind. She was going to shame him just a little bit at least.

Kyrstin ignored Raebeli as best he could. He didn't much care for the opinions of a woman, even one with healing training. His health was his own business and he did not get upset too easily, except when women insisted on pestering him so much. He followed her wordlessly, bu only because they were going in the same direction for the moment. Their first patients was a brownrider who's gotten himself nearly squashed trying to rescue one of his pets. Honestly, Kysrtin thought dryly. What was it with Southerners and the useless heroics?
G'tor was chuckling and winking when he arrived, obviously amused by Raebeli's words. "Oh, I don't know," the man leaned back casually. "I think a lady's smile brightens up the place, don't you Kyrstin?" He smiled warmly. Kyrstin resisted the urge to roll his eyes. "Roll up your shirt," he ordered. G'tor pouted, looking crestfallen. "He's a tough one," he whispered to Raebeli, even as he pulled up his shirt so the healer's could see his bruises and cuts.
Kyrstin ignored them, leaning down to see how the ribs and stitches were healing. Until G'tor spoke up again, loudly. "Why Kyrstin, I heard you didn't like women, but I had no idea you were so eager to see me shirtless!" Caught by surprise, Kyrstin blanched at him, unable to answer the storm of victorious chuckles.

Really now, with the patients in such high spirits Rae couldn't help but think that the healers themselves should be reciprocating. After all, Kyrstin didn't look to be afflicted with anything other than a case of never ending melancholy... nothing that couldn't be fixed as far as the mindhealer was concerned, "I tend to agree G'tor...." she pointed at her own lips, "if it wasn't already obvious," the woman's smile faded slightly as her partner ordered the brownrider's shirt up, only to be lit back up by the whisper directed her way. As the other healer made his assessments she leaned in for another exchange, "Posturing I think... we are all gooey flesh and blood on the inside after all."
Standing back up at full height - which really wasn't that impressive considering Kyrstin's long and lanky figure - she was forced to cast her eyes upward as she set a hand on her hip, "So what'cha thinking Kyrstin... are we sending the good man to the solitude of his own weyr anytime soon?" Snorting at the stray comment from G'tor and the resulting look of distress on a certain grump's face, her face softened into obvious amusement. Well apparently someone had managed to touch on a rather sensitive subject. While Raebeli was far from the type to poke and prod at someone's insecurities (that would be quite unbecoming of a mindhealer of all people) she wasn't going to all out ignore the odd behavior, and she turned to man lying in his cot, "Well, regardless, I think the Journeyman here might discharge you just to escape the embarrassment if you keep on finding all of his buttons...."
Her jab was said in her good sweet mannered way as she patted G'tor on the hand before delivering him with some news that he would be sure to appreciate, "I think you're healing up just fine, and I see no reason why you and you Ruskeath," the name had been supplied to her by Quixoth thankfully, "won't be back in business real soon... Kyrstin on the other hand looks like he is working up a heart attack..."

Kyrstin resisted the urge to sigh impatiently at the other two and returned his face to stony impassive. His personal affiliations or otherwise really weren't up for discussion in his opinion. He had too much work to do, and it wasn't like he'd really found anyone around here all that attractive so far. He just didn't have the time for such frivolous relationships, especially with riders. "I think it is about time you were out of my hair, Rider G'tor," he announced, wrinkling his nose at Raebeli. He could hardly believe he'd just agreed with a woman, but it would be worth it to get this man out of the infirmary at last.
G'tor looked crestfallen, though he was clearly just taking all the reactions in stride. "You wound me, Kyrstin," he pouted. "And here I thought we were getting to be such good friends." Returning to cheerfulness, the brownrider was nevertheless, excited to be free of confinement. He smiled at Raebeli, nodding a little since he could bow. "I probably shouldn't have been so rude in the presence of a lady," he confessed, winking at her. He had seen the younger man's discomfort and was more than willing to change the subject. He stretched. "It will be good to be see this new weyr they've assigned me."

Ah! She nearly celebrated. This Kyrstin was apparently at least willing to go along with her, at least this one time, in the decision to let G'tor go home. Before the other healer could change his mind, Raebeli began bouncing just a little bit on the brownrider's behalf and clasped her hands together, "Oh good! We'll have to find someone to help you on your way to a weyr..." Turning to catch a glance from the grumpy young man, she saw his twisted expression and very nearly stuck her tongue out at him. If only she were a few turns younger, it would have been a very viable option then, but not for someone who was trusted to direct other healers... no bad role models for the apprentices were allowed in her opinion.
Hovering around the bed now like some helpful little fairy, the mindhealer pondered for a moment on where to begin. There had to be some clothes to send the brownrider off with and a light prescription for pain. Not to mention the hidework. There was always hidework involved. Thinking these things through she hummed a bit before replying to G'tor, "Oh not at all my dear. I didn't think you a bit rude, it was all in good humor, its Kyrstin here that needs a bit of lightening up. Speaking of...." she drifted over to the other healer, "Would you like to fill out the hides discharging him... and leave him off with a salve or something for the cuts so they don't scar up? We want him to stay dashing after all...." if he thought of rebelling against her request then she already had counter in mind, "Or you can get his clothes and belongings together and fetch him a drudge and some crutches... I just figure you'd like the medicine-y stuff better."
With that she winked at Kyrstin and G'tor both before adding, "Can't keep you two alone together after all."
