"Do we haaaave to? Daddy, I wanna play. Growed ups just talk. Can we see T'san?"
The brownrider had a child's hand in each of his, one to keep his rambunctious and rebellious little daughter from running off somewhere, and one because Riaren seemed to feel safer touching someone he knew. "T'san's grown up, too, Teri, even if he doesn't often act like it." He stopped outside Ruliana's door and knocked on it. "Your aunts are expecting us tonight. You wouldn't want to disappoint Auntie Ruli and Auntie Jazzy, would you?" Trying the door and finding it unlocked, he pushed it open and took Riaren's hand again before heading inside, wanting to get Terilyn out of the hallway and out of danger of darting away somewhere. She'd been known to run away at times when she didn't get her way and she was very good at hide and seek, especially in these tunnels. If he couldn't take off after her right away, it might take candlemarks to find her. (Sometimes he was all but convinced that Ruth was being a cheat and telling her where M'ta was.)
As soon as they were inside and Riaren caught sight of Ruliana, he tugged lightly on M'ta's hand and the man released him so that the boy could walk up to one of his favorite people and latch onto her skirts. He looked up at her and gave her a shy smile. "Hi."
Teri was caught up in a squeal of laughter as M'ta swept her into his arms and planted a raspberry on her cheek, palming at his face as if to push him away. "That's enough of that, little woman. We're going to have a fun night, now aren't we, Auntie Jazzy?" He directed a wink at his blood sister, though truthfully he didn't make a huge distinction between Jazheera and Ruliana when it came to familial ties. He'd tried to get R'wign to accept his half-sister as well, but that also involved accepting that his mom had cheated on his father and well...it hadn't gone so well.
This little dinner had become a weekly occurence more or less since M'ta got back as long as nothing came up to disrupt it. M'ta liked having his family around him, even if it consisted of a blood sister, the half-sister to his dead weyrmate, R'wign's son by Meira and M'ta's adopted daughter. Yes that was a bit of a loose definition of family, but tell that to M'ta, who put about as much weight on shared blood as shared eye color. It helped that Riaren was very comfortable with both Jazheera and Ruliana. The little guy worried him sometimes. He was just so...withdrawn. Quiet. Not always, just enough to worry an overprotective uncle/father - whatever M'ta was to the kid.
Jazzarazz, Devon announced by way of greeting, half-gliding and half-scampering over to the tiny girl. Anyone who was important to His was important to him and since Ruli was getting love and M'ta was getting love, Jazz clearly needed love, too. The blue scampered up to her shoulder and rubbed against her neck, crooning.
