"Oh, Ximesk..." The girl tried to sound very disappointed in him, like mothers always did with little children when they came in all muddy. He was dripping. But she really couldn't keep serious for that long, and a giggle escaped her. "Did you fall in the vat again? They're going to think you do it on purpose, just so they'll give you all the milk you've messed up by falling in it." Ximera tsked softly and went to find a towel to wipe off her silly wher with.
When the bluehandler returned, she found a plate of cookies right in front of him. Ximera blinked. "Are those for me?" Yes, of course they were. "Trying to butter me up?" No response. The girl's eyes narrowed and she set to toweling off the milk droplets that Ximesk couldn't reach with his tongue. Silly beast. "All right. What else did you do, that you think giving me cookies is necessary?" Why that was just mean. He liked His, was all.
"Ximesk." The male glanced away then slowly opened his mouth to reveal a very fat yellow ball of mandyr. "Ximesk! Were you going to swallow her?" The blue snorted, affronted. Why would he ever swallow something so nasty tasting. Honestly. No, she was just getting all the cooks upset by being greedy - he relayed this as if he didn't have cooks chasing after him all the time with brooms - and he didn't want her squished. Obviously. His should apologize to him.
The girl squinted at her wher as she pulled Harmony from his mouth. Ew. Saliva strings. At least she still had her towel. Ximera attempted to clean the poor thing. "I'm sorry. He means well. Most of the time." Her nose wrinkled at Ximesk. "If those cookies were a bribe I think you're going to have to do better than that. Couldn't you think of a better way to rescue her?" No. Could she? Ximera sniffed pointedly - which was a nonverbal way of saying she couldn't think of anything, either, given he didn't have opposable thumbs.
"Where's Darmori, anyway? Harmony's almost always with him." Well, he had been in the kitchens too, of course. "Ximesk!"

Harmony gave a very dignified squawk as Ximesk opened his mouth. If you could ever call a squawk dignified that was. Puffing up with a hiss she spoke. Not food. The tone was reproachful and serious as Ximera grabbed her and began toweling the wher slobber off. Finally someone with sense. Sneezing to clear her nostrils of saliva she managed a soft croon at the bluehandler. Thank you. The yellow gold mandyr said politely, extending one over overlarge wing for the girl to towel off next. Shaking her little body from head to tail tip she began rubbing against the towel in a desire to help. Slobber was just disgusting. Harmony got enough with Darmosk trying to lick her let alone some other night beast deciding that mouth brooding was a good idea.
Frilling out her spines Harmony titled her head up towards Ximera. Lovely girl helping her so. Much more lovely than all those fat drudges yelling at and throwing things at her for just taste testing things. It wasn’t her fault that they made bad food. Sufficiently dry, the gold nuzzled against the bluehandler’s arm. Lovely girl thanks much. Dry good. Can have cookie now? Staring up at the girl the large mandyr waited patiently. Of course she could have just taken a cookie but that would be impolite and Ximera wasn’t a fat drudge. She was nice, surely she would share?
“No Harmony you cannot have a cookie.” Came a very tired response from the doorway. Darmori’s short hair was all frazzled and he had a very weary look on his face. Getting chased away by drudges with sharp objects and booms was never fun. Especially when you weren’t the one who did anything. Rubbing the back of his neck he nonetheless gave Ximera a tired smile as his chubby gold gave a upset creel. “Hi Ximera. Sorry if she caused you any trouble. I lost track of her and went to the kitchens looking for her and the drudges where all up in arms about something or another. I think we’re really lucky that we both haven’t been banned from the kitchens at this point.” He gave a pointed glance to Ximesk and Harmony. Really those two where probably now public enemy one and two in the drudges eyes. Next thing you knew there would be wanted posters posted around.
“Uh mind if I come in?” Because lingering in the doorway was actually kind of uncomfortable. Darmosk however seemed to have no such qualms about things such as asking because the large bronze shoved past his handler to amble into the room. An enthusiastic lick to Ximera’s hand was her greeting before he all but charged his smaller brother, draping himself over the blue wher with a happy bark. Darmori just put his hand over his face and gave a tired sigh. Hopefully Ximera didn’t get upset about the sudden intrusion into her space. Peeking out from his fingers he gave the girl a warm smile. “Sorry about him I still haven’t been able to teach him to knock.”

"Well, of course you're not food, dear," Ximera returned with a shake of her head. Ximesk snorted again. How many times did he have to tell them that he wasn't interested in eating the little ones? Really. His handler ignored him for the moment and worked to get the tiny (though not at all tiny for her species) little pet relatively clean again. "You're welcome, Harmony."
While the girl was still blinking at Harmony's request, Ximesk was holding grudges. The fat little blob just wasn't being properly grateful to her rescuer at all. She was going to get him into trouble with His, too, at the rate she was going. The blue stepped forward to 'guard' his cookies from the unmannerly beastie. No cookies for Harmony. Bad 'mandyr!
The bluehandler was distracted by Darmori's appearance. Oh dear! He looked so terribly disheveled and tired. Crouching, the girl pushed Ximesk back enough to get at the cookies with her free hand. She stood and offered the boy one. "You might as well have one. Ximesk apparently stole them, so we're bound to be in trouble for these whether we eat them or not." A small smile touched her lips. "Mom can't resist the puppy eyes. I can't tell you how many times she's threatened to ban me, though. I'm already banned from cooking in the kitchens."
Her fingers remained half-curled around Harmony, masking the fact that she'd broken off part of the cookie she was now munching on and it was in the same palm as the gold. Super sneaky kitchen infiltrators needed to stick together. Yup yup. She giggled as Darmosk pushed past, then leaned forward to see if she could surprise Darmori when he looked again. Suddenly close faces were scary! "Of course you can!" she chirped, grabbing hold of his arm and tugging him in enthusiastically.
Ximesk's response to Darmosk was enthusiastic, too. He yipped in surprise and collapsed under the bronze's weight. The chubby little blue was still pretty little, despite his chubbyness. This didn't stop him from nipping at any available limbs playfully. Clutchbrooother you're squiiishing me. Ximesk whined softly. (Though this didn't prevent him from continuing his nip war on the bronze's toes.)

If Darmori was surprised at Ximera’s enthusiastic response to his visit he didn’t show it. He did however start a little, taking a step backwards, when he realized just how close she was. Her eyes where large as it was and up close they where a little disorientating. Chuckling as she handed him a cookie he smiled gently at her. “Yeah I suppose to the thieves go the spoils. Would be a shame to let them go to waste now when we obviously can’t give them back without getting scolded for taking them in the first place.” He mused, allowing the energetic blue handler to pull him into the room even as he munched on the offered cookie. Her energy and brightness never ceased to surprise him. For a little thing she was surprisingly strong.
Harmony, being the opportunist that she was, gave a soft affectionate lick to Ximera’s palm before accepting the offered chunk of cookie. Sneaking a quick look at the distracted humans she proceeded to try and cram it down her throat before her Mori realized she had it. didn’t want it taken away. Oh no. That would just be terrible. Privately she brushed against Ximera’s mind, the words sweet and caressing. Thank you muchly. Sweet girl is Ximera. It was a good thing that mandyrs did not need their mouths to talk, because the gold’s was very, very full at the moment. Cookie pretty much successfully stored in her belly the mandyr wound about the girl’s wrist and scrambled up to her shoulder. There she perched using her forepaws to clean any crumbs from her muzzle and chirping brightly to the room at large.
Darmosk almost pitched over his suddenly collapsing blue brother but he managed to turn the near trip into a not so graceful flop. An amused rumble left his throat as Ximesk yipped and then began nipping at any available areas. Giving a happy bark his tail wagged and he wiggled on his brother. Smuuushing him? Was his wonderful blue brother calling him fat? Oh the horror! With a playful wuff he rolled off the toe nipper, returning the favor with brief nips at his brother’s flanks. Nudging up alongside him the bronze hooked a foreleg around his brother’s neck and growled playfully. Wrestling time was now yes?
Darmori for the most part tried to ignore the playful whers hoping against hope that Darmosk didn’t get too overly enthusiastic and break something. That would be terrible. To Ximera he offered a smile. “So puppy eyes huh? You’ll have to teach me how to do em. Or actually better yet try and teach Harmony she’s the one in danger of being smashed.” Making a face the bronzehandler signed at his chubby golden pet. Really he was glad she was healthy and happy enough to be up to her old tricks again but at the same time it was aggravating having to come to her rescue and get broomed for it. She was lucky she was so loved.

Ximera spared no good cheer in the smile she returned to Darmori, clearly glad that he'd taken her suggestion and was eating that cookie. (Also, that he wasn't fighting her when she tugged him into her room. The bluehandler didn't have any roommates like some of the others and it sometimes left her feeling lonely. Where had that older woman disappeared to, anyway?)
The girl stroked Harmony's back, turning her head and holding a finger before her lips. Shh. Can't let the Darmori know, now could they? Her gaze shifted to the boy in question, and she laughed. "I don't know that salamandyrs can make puppy eyes, Mori. You may have to learn it for her." The girl poked him lightly in the chest. Then she turned toward the small pile of herbs she had stacked on a nearby table. "Would you like tea with your cookies?"
Ximesk made little huffing sounds of mock outrage at the nips of his bronze brother. No! He'd never call Darmosk fat, though he was being a huge bully right now. Picking on smaller blue brothers just wasn't terribly nice, was it? The wher half-jumped at the leg looped around his neck, then turned his shoulder into Darmosk with a playful growl, all dramatics forgotten in favor of trying to pin the larger wher. (Though this is Ximesk we're talking about, so it's not like he tried very hard.)
In fact, as soon as it was clear that he wasn't going to be getting very far, the smaller blue flopped on his side in capitulation, his chubby little tummy expanding and contracting in a fast pant of near-exhaustion. See? Not fair at all, picking on him. But today Ximesk must have been in a mood for being tricksy, because his hind legs came up beneath Darmosk and thrust strongly. Hahah! That ought to get him!
Ximera spared no more than a glance for the two sillies, a fond smile coming to her face before she pushed her hair back and smiled at Darmori. "You'll get more flowers with me, too? Please? The nightflowers are beginning to wilt again." She tried to make sure they were always fresh, and, being nightflowers that returned to hiding in the light, they didn't need much sunlight. But they still had to be replaced fairly often for all that.

Darmori gave a chuckle at Ximera. “Guess that’s true. She could try though.” He stated with a grin before going on. “I don’t know if I can pull off puppy eyes near as good as you even if you did teach me. Your eyes are bigger and more pretty.” The statement could have come across as flirtatious from anyone else but from the bronzehandler it was merely friendly and factual. She did have bigger and prettier eyes so what was the harm in stating it? Smiling as she let go of his hand and poked him in the chest the teen gave a smile. “Sure. I’m always okay with tea. It’s a good drink.” The blue hander was quickly turning his mood back around to happy, and to be honest Darmori never was unhappy for long anyway. He had just been annoyed at the booms hitting him and that the gold had to get herself in trouble again. But it was hard to stay mad and even harder to stay mad at a Harmony. Especially when it brought him into contact with Ximera again.
Her of all people Darmori felt he understood better. Everyone else would give him weird looks on occasion. The little sister of the handler group never seemed to be at a loss around him. He liked that about her. Simple like him. Harmony chirped in acknowledgement as Ximera shushed her and then crooned softly rubbing up affectionately against the girl's neck. Liked her the gold did. The cookies may have had a little bit to do with the fact but the girl really was a very likeable human. Especially since she had food and tea. The large mandyr tilted her head at the herbs and gave a soft croon. Tea for Mony too? She asked hopefully tail winding about the bluehandler’s neck.
Darmosk wuffed in amusement as Ximesk returned his attentions. Oh was he sure? The bronze thought he caught a fatty comment in there somewhere. The teasing tone to his mental communication made it obvious it was all in jest as he rubbed affectionately against his chubby brother. As the blue began to shove back against him Darmosk grinned and let himself lean just a little, encouraging the blue. The bronze was totally fine with humoring his siblings. He loved play in all it’s forms, and he was especially fond of his siblings playing with him when they would. When Ximesk finally gave up and flopped onto his side the bronze gave a mock triumphant bark and titled his head at his brother. Oh no he wasn’t picking on him. Not at alllll. Then he felt the hard shove from beneath and it was an easy thing to purposely go with the momentum and simply topple over. Rolling over on his back, tongue lolling out the side of his mouth, Darmosk gave a goofy grin at his brother and wriggled. Oh nooooo. Now he was in trouble. He had fallen and he couldn’t get uuuuup.
Darmori grinned at the antics of the two whers shaking his head briefly at the pure silliness his bronze was displaying before his attention was brought back to Ximera. Flowers? Oh yes. Grinning he gave a enthusiastic nod. “Of course. I’d be glad to accompany you.” Picking flowers was one of his all time favorite things ever. Along with chasing moths and playing pretend in the moonlight.

The big, pretty eyes were focused on Darmori with surprise for a moment, then she smiled a happy smile, her face crinkling up. What a sweet thing to say! "Well, I'm a girl," she stated, as if that in itself explained everything. "But you're cute. Shouldn't have any trouble." Darmori was, too. It probably was because he was young - young things were almost always cute - but the reason didn't matter that much when it was the truth.
Ximera bounced happily toward her collection of herbs and set about putting the water to a boil. She giggled at Harmony. "Well, of course. What kind of tea are you both in the mood for? Flower tea? Mint? I've got a few fruit ones, too." Everything collected from the nearby jungles, of course. "Lemongrass is good, if you'd like to try it."
While his handler was listing off the teas, Ximesk had an all too playful Darmosk to contend with. At least he knew that the bronze was playing. For the most part. Though the tricksy brother did confuse him for the space of a few moments when he toppled over and wriggled around like an insect trapped in molasses. Oh no! Darmosk wasn't hurt forevers and evers now, was he?
The blue was on his feet and nosing Darmosk with undisguised anxiety when he realized that his brother was much too amused to be permanently confined to his back. Mean! Huffing softly, the smaller blue pounced his wicked brother and began washing his face with his tongue as punishment. Not allowed, not allowed, not allowed.
The bluehandler did nothing to disguise her excited expression, even going so far as to clap her hands in a brief expression of delight. She loved Darmori! Other people would go with her too, of course, but they often made it seem like they were humoring her. Doing her a favor. Darmori actually enjoyed coming with her. "We should find some pretty ones for you. Not the nightflowers, something special." She nodded to herself.

Darmori simply smiled at his friend. Shouldn’t have any trouble. Well he hoped so. The would have to practice later however it seemed because Ximera was already quite industrially working on her tea. Watching bustle about the bronze handler smiled and stood next to a seat at the small table in the room. He Didn’t know if the bluehandler would mind him sitting. He didn’t know why she would but she also hadn’t invited him to sit yet and he didn’t want to be rude. Cocking his head the teen debated her question. Hmm. Who knew there where so many versions of tea? He supposed it was like fruit. There where so many types of fruit too and he did like fruit. Perhaps a fruit tea? But then the other teas where good too. Darmori had just about decided to ask Ximera’s opinion when she mentioned the lemongrass. Well if she thought it was good….
“Lemongrass sounds good. I’ll try that.” He remarked brightly tapping his fingers against the back of the chair he was standing next to. Harmony gave a curious little trill and tilted her head at the pile of dried things. They sure didn’t look edible. Shame. The girls voice bringing her attention back from the herbs the gold crooned softly. What did she want? Mint was good but so where fruits at time. The chubby mandyr was especially fond of the sweater fruits. Chirping she rubbed her head against the young girl’s jaw in a display of affection. Ximera pick. Mony trust be good. She stated, settling herself more comfortably on the girl’s shoulder. Yes she quite liked her perch. Plus this way perhaps she could sneak a bit more cookie when they finally got around to it.
Darmosk grinned wider as Ximesk finally got around to checking him. Trying to keep a straight face when your silly brother was prodding at you like that was hard though. The bronze ended up giving a few wuffs of amusement. Until his chubby brother completely pounced him anyway. Then the wuffs evolved into full blown happy laughing yips. The large male tried desperately to move his head out of tongue range, wiggling against his brother. Oh no face washing of doooooom. Someone help him. Heeeeeelp.
Darmori’s face lit up at Ximera’s display of excitement. He always loved making her happy. Making anyone happy really but the way the girl’s eyes lit up made it all better. Especially when what made her happy also made him happy. Flower gathering. Giving a bright grin he nodded in agreement. “Oh yeah we can try and find some nice flowers for my room certainly. Nightflowers for you and Ximesk and heck why stop there? Lets try and find some nice flowers for everyone. Some of the people here are just to grumpy. They could use some cheer for their rooms too don’t you think?”

"Flowers for everyone?" Ximera thought about that. The nightflowers were really the best because they hated sunlight (or at least needed very very little). With no windows other flowers probably wouldn't last long. But then, someone said they started dying as soon as they were cut so maybe the whole sunlight thing didn't matter after all. She was quickly warming to the idea. Besides, even if they didn't last very long, they'd definitely live for at least one night. "We should get everyone different kinds. And only we would know why. Doesn't that sound like fun?"
The bluehandler was in the process of setting aside the different teas - she'd picked a fruity one for Mony because chubby people liked sweet, and Mony was chubby and liked cookies - when the girl noticed that her visitor was still standing. Well, that certainly wouldn't do! She giggled. "Are you waiting for the water to boil or something, silly? Sit down! It'll take a little time." After figuring the portions for the tea and leaving them on the table to add to the water once it came to a boil, the girl bustled about finding teacups and saucers from various nooks and crannies around the room.
She set it all down on the table...two teacups and a smaller cup meant to hold butter for Mony. "Puppy eyes!" Yes, she really did jump topics that quickly. "You have to stand or sit like you don't want to be seen. All polite, you know?" She demonstrated by slightly hunching her shoulders and clasping her hands in front of her, down below her waist. "Loose face, wide eyes. And if your lip trembles a little it's perfect!" Ximera had to stop giggling long enough to show him, but when she did it was clear she'd had lots of practice.
Laughing at his concern, was Darmosk? Well, more licks for him then! The blue really attacked face and neck for a couple minutes until he was suitably satisfied that Darmosk had learned his lesson (which was to say until Ximesk started getting tired and didn't want to put any more energy into it.) He flopped down right on top of his brother bronze and refused to move. Not that he was so large or heavy a wher - extra padding or no - that Darmosk couldn't easily roll him off if he wanted to.
Ximesk yawned widely, then. Did brother Darmosk happen to have any milk? His was all out of milk, which was why he'd gone to the kitchens. But the people there had chased him off before he'd gotten his daily dosage. If he didn't get his full ration of milk for the day, he'd die of hunger! Surely Darmosk would help him in this. Please? The blue even attempted a Xi-His puppy look, believing that it was pure magic. No one could resist puppy looks! (Provided he'd gotten it right, of course.)

“Oh that sounds great!” Darmori agreed enthusiastically with a grin. Ximera’s idea was met with much excitement. They could try and find flowers to match all the handlers. It would be hard maybe, but so much fun. Besides with the two of them working on it he was confident they would find the best matching flowers ever. Then maybe everyone would be happy and friendly for at least one night. The bronzehandler would prefer it if they all got along smashingly. Oh that couldn’t always happen he knew but the teen liked unity. Like Darmosk he believed it certainly was better when everyone could get along. They were supposed to be family anyway right? Kind of? Well he thought so anyway.
Darmori blinked from his standing position when Ximera giggled and urged him to sit. Sheepishly he smiled. He had actually been waiting for her to allow him to sit, not waiting for the water to boil. It was a small and silly thing to comment on however so he merely pulled the chair back and sat. For a few moments he watched with interest as the bluehandler bustled about setting everything up. Moving around in a flurry like that she reminded him of his old days as a drudge. Always moving, never stopping, helping with this and that. It had been a good time. Now he had Darmosk and things had changed. He missed the simple days sometimes, but he was glad and proud to be a hander too. When Ximera sat down in front of him and said something about puppy eyes Darmori adopted a rather serious expression. Oh lesson time. This was important!
With slight awe he watched her as she explained and demonstrated for him. “Wow! You are really awesome at them.” He complimented brightly and then cleared his throat. “Okay my turn. Tell me how I do.” With that the teen tried his best to imitate the other handler. Although he was positive he wasn’t getting the lip quiver right. It was harder than it looked. Harmony watched her bonded for a moment before she grew bored. What kind of face was he trying to make? Silly Mori. Giving a little sneeze and scampering down from Ximera’s shoulder the gold made her way to her little cup. Winding about it she peered in the direction of the cookies, as if she could wish them over to herself. Hmm. Where were her slaves when she needed them?
Sprawled out in bliss on the floor apparently. Darmosk suffered the lick attack with no complaint and no small amount of glee. As Ximesk flopped fully onto him he have a huff and adjusted himself so he could be more comfortable. He made no move to jostle or remove his blue brother. Instead he nuzzled him affectionately, tail winding about whatever on the other male it could reach. Happy bronze was happy. Uttering a contented noise the large male listened carefully to his brother.
Oh no! He did not have any milk sadly. But they certainly did not need his brother dieing of starvation. That would just be terrible! Now most people would figure that Darmosk was just humoring the blue and perhaps in a way he was. But the bronze was also serious. It would be terrible if his blue brother died from lack of proper milk supply. This had to be fixed yes. Tail thwacking on the floor as an idea came to him the bronze gave a sloppy lick to Ximesk in response to the odd look his brother was giving him. Not to worry brother dear. He would be tricky and distract the drudges so that his wonderful brother could get his milk. This was obviously the best plan ever! Did he approve?

Ximera covered her mouth with her hand, but it did little to stifle the giggles. Oh, dear! She knew she was being ever so rude - Laddie grumped as much from his place in her apron pocket - but, really, how could anyone look at that face and not laugh. Once she recovered herself she offered kindly, "Well, maybe we should wait on the lip pout for a little bit." Ximera swallowed another bout of giggles that rose up from the thought of it.
The small girl bounced over to Darmori and laid her fingers on his face. "You're trying a little too hard." She set his face with light pressure of her fingers, holding it steady for a moment. "See? Try to...oh!" The kettle was screaming its readiness from across the room, and Ximera forgot what she was doing in a flash, turning away from the other wherhandler and scampering over to the kettle. She used the end of her apron to protect her hand from the handle, pouring the water and adding the tea to the cups on the table. The kettle was put down toward the center of the table.
A moment later she returned with the cookies, then sat down. "Eat, eat. How is the lemongrass tea?" And if she just happened to have put the plate a bit closer to Harmony than the rest it was clearly just an oversight. Clearly. That was, of course, when Ximesk decided to barrel past and plunge out the door. Ximera blinked at him for a long moment, uncomprehending. "Where are they-?"
Ximesk didn't at all expect Darmosk to take him quite so seriously as the bronze obviously was, but you certainly wouldn't hear him complaining about a willing partner in...unsolicited acquisition. (The blue was no thief, you see. Such a terrible word. He was merely making sure that the excess milk didn't go to waste. Yes.) As such, the blue agreed whole-heartedly to Darmosk's suggestion, nuzzling the bronze and leaping up to dash for the door.
For such a rotund creature, he could move pretty fast when he had reason to, hurtling along low to the ground and using his claws to make his turns all the sharper. Ximesk plunged into the dustiest of the old passages where people hadn't yet expanded into. Best to be sneaky. Sneaky whers on a mission. If he paused at all, it was only to make sure that Darmosk wasn't getting left behind.
Of course, all the weyrs were occupied closer to the kitchens, and Ximesk hunkered down low around the corner from his goal. He swiveled his head toward Darmosk. Now, maybe? It seemed as good a time as any to begin operation don't let poor Ximesk starve. (Because his plump little body showed all the signs of emaciation, most definitely.)

Darmori’s had a hard time trying to keep the puppy dog look when Ximera started giggling. Her giggles made him want to smile. A giggling friend was the best thing ever. The blue handler’s giggles were also very contagious. Which was a good and a bad thing really. Bad because it made his attempt at a puppy dog look even more silly good because laughter was good for you. Or so someone had said. When the girl bounced towards him the teen leaned back and allowed her to more or less manipulate his face. She was only trying to help after all. “Trying to hard?” Darmori managed to mumble as she held his face steady his eyes watching her with interest. Hmm Ximera was the expert. The whistling of the teapot had her fleeing to the water and the bronzehandler rubbed his face to wipe away any traces of the expression as he waited for his friend to return.
Harmony watched with clear interest as the tea was poured. The hot liquid was given a sniff before she turned away from it. Far too hot for her currently. Instead the chubby gold focused on the approaching plate of cookies. A sideways glance was given to Darmori to see if he was paying attention. Apparently not. With an thankful croon to the girl the yellow queen reached out with forepaws and snatched a cookie waddling back she nibbled on the edge of the sweet her tail curling around it possessively. Darmori too reached out and grabbed a cookie. “Thanks Ximera.” A glance was given his mandyr but it was apparently by the look she shot him that if he attempted to take the cookie from her she would throw a royal fit. Not wanting to subject either himself or Ximera to it the handler let her have her way. Which really was a very common occurrence. Harmony was very much the ruler she claimed to be. The gold rarely ever didn’t get her way. For better or worse.
Sipping carefully at his tea Darmori raised an eyebrow. “Oh. That’s really very good! I didn’t know that grass could…” At that moment the cups on the table rattled as Darmosk shot off after his smaller brother. Turning to look at the retreating whers the bronzehandler turned back to Ximera with a puzzled look. “You know. I’m not sure? They look like they’re on a mission though don’t they?” Which could be a good or a bad thing.
Darmosk was excited about this mission. Very excited. It was a game you see. Distract the drudges to get the prize. Yes it was like caravan and bandit that his often played for pretend. They were almost always the good people. This time they were playing the sneaky people. Loping after his chubby brother the bronze did well enough keeping up, his heat sense making sure that he didn’t get lost. Tongue lolling out he slowed when his brother did and slipped into a very exaggerated sneak stride. His body as low to the ground as he could get it the large male sneaked his large head around the corner to get a look at their objective. With a soft wuff he licked the blue’s face and slipped around the corner.
Putting an exaggerated swagger into his step Darmosk waltzed right into the kitchen and gave a happy bark. Who wanted to play tag? Charging one of the drudges with playful intent he barked happily when she squealed and dropped the dough she was working on. Moments later he had her gently pinned and he was washing her face as the kitchen erupted into a flurry of activity. As the first broom was shoved at him the bronze danced away from his ‘victim’ and lowered his front half in a play bow, barking happily. Tag they were it. Couldn’t touch him!

It was a little belated, granted, but Ximera's attention was still on the sudden exit of their two rather crazy whers. The girl blinked and tucked her feet up under her, smoothing her skirt so that not even the tip of a toe was showing. "They most certainly do," she agreed, her face more serious than was normal. Then she smiled, though. "Oh well. I'm practically banished anyway." What could a bunch of kitchen drudges do to a pair of full-grown whers, after all?
"Lemongrass isn't really grass, you know," Ximera added, wrinkling her nose. She didn't giggle. Her eyes did all the laughing for her. There was nothing cruel about it, though. The bluehandler merely found the thought of giving Darmori actual grass to drink exceedingly amusing. She wouldn't be a very good host at all if she did that, now would she? The girl picked a cookie up off the plate, savoring it. Must be one of Doxie's.
Ximera was ever-so-content to eat her cookie and drink her tea, feeling the warmth spread through her. "So. About the flowers. Maybe we should start thinking now about what to get everyone so that we can find them more quickly. It's not terribly long before nightfall." Her eyes settled on Darmori's face. "Why don't we start with Eikane and Nautic? They should be easy!"
It seemed that Darmosk was having no trouble keeping up. Well, good then! Ximesk was not a competitive creature by nature, after all, and Darmosk had to do his part first, anyway. The blue watched his bronze brother with some amusement. Darmosk seemed to be having almost too much fun, discharging his role as distraction. Not that the blue minded that at all, either.
Ximesk waited for all eyes to be on his bronzebrother, stealing as gracefully as possible - and he could be graceful if he wasn't forced to hurry - into the kitchens. The blue slunk around the counter. Ah yessss, there was the barrel he loved so much. Ximesk nosed at the cork for a moment to make sure it was in place, then tipped it against the wall, slowly backing up to allow it to slide down.
As soon as the barrel was prone, he began rolling it toward the exit, being careful not to draw attention by moving too fast or making too much noise. But it seemed someone had seen him anyway. A broom clipped his tail and the male suddenly bolted, pushing the barrel along in front of him at a truly dangerous pace. Hopefully no one was coming out of the weyrs at this time!

Darmori watched the door the whers had escaped though for perhaps a few more moments. Oh yes they were definitely up to something. Probably nothing good either. As Ximera piped up he gave a smile. “Yeah. Me too. But mostly on account of Harmony causing issues. Not so much Darmosk.” Yeah he was really going to get a talking to later if that was indeed where the whers were off to. The handler had a sneaking suspicion that he was right. Ah well no helping it now really. He just hoped that the bronze didn’t cause too much trouble. Hopefully nothing that couldn’t be fixed with a heartfelt apology at any rate.
Sipping at his tea Darmori tilted his head and nibbled on the edge of his cookie. “Really? I guess cause it was called Lemongrass I just figured it was what it was called.” Giving her a rather amused smile he took another sip of tea. “Well even if it really isn’t grass it’s still good.” The handler gave a brief glance to his gold mandyr who was busy sipping daintily at her tea. Well at least she was behaving politely. Which honestly wasn’t unusually, Harmony was remarkably well behaved when she wasn’t having a fit at a firelizard or being denied something. Looking back up at Ximera as the subject went back to flowers he smiled at his friend.
“Good idea. No need to waste time that way. We can just go out and look for what we need.” Hmm flowers for Nautic and Eikane. “I think something bright and cheerful. Nautic likes bright and Eikane looks like he could use some cheering up lately.” He decided with a nod. “Hmm you know I have no idea what kind of flowers to get some of them. Like Dmitri for instance. It’s good thing I have you to help.” The bronze handler gave the girl another winning smile. “You’re the expert on flower matching I think. I’m just good at finding them.” Winking at her he took another sip of tea and devoured another cookie. He was suddenly glad that Harmony had gotten wher napped by Ximesk.
Darmosk cavorted around the boom wielding drudges like a happy pony. Only in this case it was more like a happy draft horse. Snapping playfully at the boom he wagged his overlong tail from side to side knocking all manners of things off the cabinets and making a right mess. Not that he noticed. Two toed feet picked their way through the debris with ease. Every so often he’d flick his gaze to Ximesk to check on his brother’s progress. Almost there…oh dear. The large bronze gave wuff of alarm as one of the drudges finally caught sight of the blue but the broom clipped his chubby brothers tail anyway. As his clutch brother sped away from the scene, pushing his barrel, Darmosk suddenly found himself alone facing the wrath of the angry kitchen workers. Oh dear.
Rushing them with a loud bark he was able to slip past despite getting whacked about the head and flanks with various objects. No matter it, hardly hurt and mission accomplished. Sliding into the hallway he powered after his brother head lowered and legs working double time as he strove to catch up. Almost plowing into a very startled looking rider he barked an apology and brushed against Ximesk’s mind. Waiiiiit up!

"Especially because it isn't really grass," Ximera interjected with another giggle. "I don't think grass tastes good at all. Ximesk agrees." Some cats ate grass when they were feeling sick. (Ximera didn't think this was a good point in favor of grass being yummy, though. Medicines often tasted very icky.) She cast a glance at Harmony, but the gold seemed to be enjoying herself well enough. Ximera couldn't help the broadening grin; she loved playing hostess!
The girl quickly found herself blushing at the bronzehandler's compliments. He really was just too nice sometimes. (It would never occur to her that he might be saying these things to either get out of picking the flowers, or to get on her good side for later. Ximera was not a naturally suspicious creature.) "Oh, I don't know, I'm sure you'd be just as good at it as me. Bright flowers..."
The girl pondered that for a long moment. "What about daisies? They're pretty and happy. I'd say sunflowers, but those are too yellow. It has to be for both Nautic and Eikane." Ximera then scrunched up her nose. "I have no clue about Dmitri. He scares me," she admitted. The scarred harper was very tall and had that nasty look. Not to mention he could be so mean. What really scared her, though, was Dmisk. That wher was a killer. And what sort of person was it who had such a wher as a mindmate?
It wasn't that Ximesk had forgotten Darmosk. Truly he hadn't! The blue simply was afraid. He didn't want to be caught. (Who did, after all?) And...well...those brooms hurt. The surprisingly fast chubby blue couldn't help but feel a little bad though when he heard Darmosk's barking and his clutchbrother pleaded for him to slow down. Nevertheless, all he could do was tell Darmosk that he couldn't right now.
You see, Ximesk had a small problem in the form of a runaway milk barrel. He'd gotten it going at such a pace that now he practically had to sprint just to keep up! There was no way he was letting his precious milk out of his sight. But, oh no, the end of the hall was coming up. The male added as much speed to his run as he could and jumped clear over the barrel.
Even if his feet caught just a little and the landing was anything but smooth - not to mention the barrel almost traveled up him before deciding to come to a full stop - Ximesk still managed to land it without faceplanting. He was almost afraid to look back to see where Darmosk was. Please don't squash me clutchbrother! he impressed into the bronze's mind, half-hunching in anticipation of the inevitable.
