She had been told to go take a break. Get something to eat, maybe relax for a little bit. Initially Erilena had resisted, she didn’t need a break. But Feyrianth took the opportunity to plead for them to do something, at least for a little while and the greenrider never could deny her dragon anything. The four winged dragon was lonely. Horribly so. Normally she hung out in the dragon side of the infirmary with whatever dragons where present or just fluttered about the weyr seeing if anyone would play with her. But ever since the takeover Erilena had politely asked her bonded to stay home unless she was needed. She didn’t like Fey wandering around by herself anymore. It was just asking for trouble. That had been a mistake clearly because the green hated being cooped up. Feyrianth just wanted so badly to be able to play and she missed the littles so much. They had not been able to see them in forever. (a few sevendays but you would think it was going on months the way the green talked.)
Thus after grabbing a small snack from the main hall Erilena made her way to the creche and stopped in her tracks upon finding it empty, with the exception of a wet nurse feeding one small baby. The kids had been taken outside for some fresh air it seemed. Getting the location from the woman the greenrider retraced her steps and mentally called Feyrianth just as soon as she caught sight of the small grouping of children. It was actually bitter sweet to see them. Some of the little cheerful band where missing and although she knew a few to have been killed, (she could NEVER forgive wasteland for that) some others where simply, missing.
At first sight of her some of them squealed in joy and broke away from the group to race over and cling to her legs. “Eri! Eri!” “Miss Eri!” “I missed you.” “Do you want to see my new toy?” “Ralor hit me yesterday.” “I did not.” “Did you come to play with us?” Those where only a few of the enthusiastic words that met her ears and she smiled brightly, lowering herself to their level so she could give hugs and respond to their enthusiasm properly.
However her time in the spotlight was short lived because another distraction soon announced it’s presence with an enthusiastic squeal and a fluttering of wings. The small herd of creche children immediately broke off with return happy squeals to race towards Feyrianth. In response the green immediately flopped onto her stomach before they could reach her, flattening herself to the ground so the tiny littles could touch as much of her as possible.
A happy croon left the dragon’s throat her eyes whirling in bright blues. Oh Ralorlittle. Be careful not to poke my eye. Kintialittle my head is not for climbing. The happy and caressing words where broadcasted to the whole little group, her tongue darting out to lightly brush against some of the children sending them into squeals of laughter. Erilena watched the interaction from a distance, ready to step in if things got to out of control but for the moment she was content to just drink in the scene. It was comforting and chased away the lingering feelings of sadness the takeover had left. If only for a few precious minutes.
The two creche woman who where watching the group gave her thankful waves and a look of slight relief. The creche had lost a lot of it’s staff, and it looked like they where happy for the small break the green and her rider had provided. Suddenly however Feyrianth raised her head, her tail and neck coming around to circle her loose grouping of children protectively, even as her double set of wings flared outward and lowered slightly over the children, like a mother hen protecting her chicks. Someone approaches. Erilena blinked. Fey you don’t have to get so possessive. No one will hurt them. Someone has before. Or did you forget Savitricath’s hatchling and the ones belonging to Salenth's are no longer with us? The greenrider frowned. She had thought her dragon would have forgotten that by now. Obviously not.

"Don't give me that look," Ba'sun effected a mock scowl back at the wet nurse. In one arm he held Shoal, lightly bouncing him to try and make him stop crying. Yes, there were some things Ba'sun did not miss about being a parent. To be fair, his boys had never been very fussy from the start, but then again, his boys didn't lose a parent. "If I had breasts, like yours, this would be easier."
A roll of the woman's eyes prompted Ba'sun to elaborate. "Well look at you, soon as the baby starts making noise you shove him against your chest and snuff him out. I don't think it's a coincidence that the babe is passed out sleeping when you finally free him." He, every so maturely, stuck out his tongue before resuming his search of the creche's cabinets. He really thought only a few got out with the clothes on their back, but it appeared they had taken half of the supplies with them. Or maybe some of the more unruly riders from Wasteland had helped themselves to the contents. "Where is.. the really diluted jar of numbweed you use for teething..?"
"It should be up there," the woman supplied helpfully.
"Little green clay jar, isn't it?" A nod from her affirmed it. Ba'sun in turn shook his head. "Not here."
The wet nursed sighed tiredly. A lot of the kids had been acting out since the attack, and they really didn't have the staff to watch them all. "Ralor is found of climbing up there to rearrange things, or just take and hide them from us." A simple nod of chin gestured in the direction the green rider and the children had went. Later, Ba'sun decided, he was going to go ask the healers to make him a little jar to keep in his weyr.
Shoal was shifted, the bluerider swathing the sling under his rump and situating him onto his back before setting out to track down the children. They could be such an elusive prey the way they tended to scatter in fits of giggles to slip into the smallest cracks and crevices. Luckily for him, the whole lot of them were gathered around a green dragon – a dragon that quickly curled around them as he approached. Great, just great. Ba'sun glanced in the direction of the green's rider, but said nothing, simply continued on toward the children, a mock scowl again forming into place.
"One of you cut purses is going to get beaten black and blue," Ekarth landed on the empty grass behind him, slithering forward his his belly on the ground. Ba'sun set his hands on his hips as he viewed the group of miniature thieves.

Erilena’s gaze fixed itself curiously on the rider approaching. Hmmm. He seemed a little familiar…Then it occurred to her. He had been one of the ones on the beach during that wild firelizard hatching. Ba’sun if she remembered correctly. The one that S’rei had been yelling for. The blonde gave a soft snort. That had been a right mess. The fact that he was still approaching Feyrianth and the children however had her starting in that direction, throwing glances and attempts at reassurance at her green. Who for once was not listening.
Feyrianth curled tighter around the children as Ba’sun approached. Her front talons extended and digging into the ground, creating little trenches as her muzzle started to wrinkle in the barest traces of an actual snarl. Her eyes previously a vibrant and deep blue had bled to orange and red and narrowed upon the man, her wings dropping to completely hide the group of creche children from view. Erilena swallowed and quickened her step. The emotions rolling over from Feyrianth where new and they scared her. Never before had the rider ever seen her dragon snarl. The only times her green had done such where when she had been out of it or unconscious. The bluerider’s words and the addition of another dragon did nothing to calm Feyrianth’s fear and anxiety and in response to Ekarth’s arrival the four winged dragon actually did curl her lip up slightly, barely showing her teeth. To Ba’sun the dragon spoke with a voice that was devoid of it's usual warmth. You will not touch my little ones while I still have the means to prevent it. Where not Savitricath’s and Salenth’s ones enough to sate you?
Thankfully Erilena had made it to the strange grouping by now and she interjected herself between the bluerider and her dragon, arms flung wide to make a pointless physical barrier between the two. Her words came out in a pleading rush. “I’m sorry about her, I am. She’s upset. She views them as hers. Please don’t be mad at her for it. I don’t want her hurt. She’s not trying to create problems.” The greenrider’s worst fear was that these Wastelanders would find a reason to be rid of them. The woman wasn’t stupid, she knew these riders where from benden and benden had a bad reputation as far as mutations where concerned. To Feyrianth she commented softly and caressingly. Darling please stop showing your teeth. You’re probably scaring the kids. I know you don’t mean to and I know you are just trying to protect them but this is the wrong way to go about it.
Worried hazel eyes went back to the man and his dragon. “Whatever one of them took I am sure I can get back to you. There is no need to beat anyone. If you want to hit someone please hit me, not them.” No. I will not.. Fey please just hush. In her current worried state it never occurred to Erilena that the man might be joking. His accent was northern and unfortunately that automatically had her assuming the worst case scenario.
Feyrianth stopped snarling but she did not offer to raise her wings at all. Instead she commented softly to the children beneath them. It is okay my little ones. We play a game of hide and seek. Be quiet and still. Only then did the green catch sight of the baby on Ba’sun’s back, and she slightly titled her head, a curious thread of color tinting her eyes. Still the dragon remained tense and wary for the time being. Just because he had his own little did not mean that he did not seek to take hers.

Her little oness? Ekarth eyes shifted to the same shade of blue to blend in his with his hide, making it difficult for humans and dragons to read his reactions. He curved his serpentine shape in a half circle behind his rider, his muzzle coming down to be even with Ba'sun's shoulder. It didn't escape the blue's notice that the green was getting far too riled up for her own good. Pinning the humanlings under a wing; likely to hurt them or smash them in her distress. Sshe iss clearly confussed. Doess sshe really thingss the children are herss?
Sure. Sometimes those that cannot bear children become so mad with the desire to have one they'll claim anything as their child. Like you? Har, har.
Ba'sun's brow rose at the odd girl that felt the need to thrust herself between him and the sneering dragon. "I've decided the south reads their children too many scary stories." Because he didn't understand what her, or her dragon, was getting so upset over. Yes, he was a wastelander, but had he never really done anything to fit into the strange perspective people had on northern riders. Sure he had blood on his hands (who didn't?), but not literally or right at that moment. Hyne, He must of made for a very intimidating figure, hands on his hips like some mother hen with a babbling toddler on his back, not to mention the weyrling master knots over his shoulder.
Then, without saying another word, Ba'sun stepped forward to wrap his arms around Erilena's torso in a hug; one that lifted her off the grass. He pivoted before seting her down, patting her on the back at the same time. "But there you go, you wanted a hug." Oh he knew what she was doing by flinging her arms out to the side like that - being stupid. Not that long ago he had sternly told his weyrlings not to be martyrs, hn. Not to mention her queer words of oh please hit me instead. Weird girl. Okaaay.
"Ralor. Get out here before the green suddenly decides the safest place for you is in her gut."
There was wiggling from under the wing along with a muffled reply. Ba'sun sigh, hands curling into fists at he turned the oh-so-scary scowl onto the dragon. "You both really think I'm going to hurt them. It's called teasing, a foreign concept I see. Now let them go, I need the boy to return something."

Erilena was playing hostage negotiator with Feyrianth while Ba’sun did, whatever the hell he was doing. Fey they will be fine just relax. What if.... Honey there are a lot of what ifs. Believe me about a hundred are going through my mind but you don’t want to hurt them and if you get too upset you might accidentally. That is a reasonable thing to think isn’t it? I’ll be right here. If he tries anything I’ll be right here. I promise I… Mid mental speech the greenrider suddenly found herself in an embrace and she immediately stiffened and pushed against the man in a desire to be free.
The bluerider’s words caused Erilena to blink and she opened her mouth to protest when he turned to address Feyrianth or maybe it was one of the kids. Honestly she wasn’t listening because the baby caught her eye. Erilena’s eyes widened and she quite suddenly forgot what she was even going to say. A name left her lips near breathless in delivery. “Shoal?” Immediately she covered her mouth with both hands and backed up a step. But, but, she had assumed him dead with the twins. Maybe just gone like Miguel and yet this Ba’sun had him. How? Did he even realize?
Feyrianth gave whimper and lowered her head, her eyes whirling in distressed shades as she nevertheless lifted her wings, a soft croon of apology to the children who had been huddled beneath the membrane. They looked confused, but certainly not injured. With a nudge to Kintia she directed her towards the other creche workers mentally prodding the rest to follow. Save one. Ralor was blocked by her tail and then gently nudged towards the northern rider, though every part of the dragon rebelled against it. Softly the green addressed Ba’sun. I would never hurt them nor eat them but I doubt you would ever believe that. Your friends are the ones who bring hurt and sorrow. Who kill those hatchlings belonging to others. Not I. They are my friends not my food. All the children safely away from her the green rose from her stomach and slunk despondently off towards the distant tree line, a final worried look sent in the direction of the blue and his rider.
Erilena swallowed and brushed Feyrianth’s mind with a reassurance she didn’t honestly or totally believe. “I’m sorry. But I can’t blame her for her protectiveness. I’m just trying to temper it better.” Because in all honesty she was sure more than half of these Wastelanders would take her green’s reaction as an excuse to slaughter her. Maybe it was ridiculously biased. But the only interactions the greenrider had ever with northerners thus far hadn’t been exactly pleasant. She’d helped as a holder during the siege, Fort would have killed everyone in that hatching ground that day had they not somehow been repulsed, and now? Now they lived under the constant looming shadow of war. A war they didn’t belong in and that they could no longer hide from, because of Wasteland. All that would happen from now on was more pain and sorrow and what had brought them that? The north. The south had no trouble getting along. So why did the north have to bring it’s baggage down here?
Rubbing her temple briefly and smiling, hopefully in a reassuring way, at the approaching little boy Erilena shrugged. “Anyway she did as you asked and you have my apologies as well. You’ll have to forgive me. My nerves have been… well that’s no concern of yours. I’m sure you have more important things to worry about than silly women.” Why yes she had just now noticed Ba’sun’s knots. Way to be observant. Clasping her slightly trembling hands behind her back the greenrider lingered, just to make sure that the boy would be okay. During the time she sent a few curious glances Shoal’s way and tried to ignore how close she was to Ekarth while making sure Feyrianth stayed put. One of these days she really was going to need some type of stress relief.

Ba'sun's hand twitched, fingers opening and pulling away from his waist. The only reaction, slight and likely to be dismissed in the whole spectrum of reactions occurring. It had been to the use of the babe's name - and that hand had wanted to snap out and close around Erilena's throat to silence her. Instead, Ba'sun ignored her, keeping his gaze firm on the mutated dragon. He snorted audibly at her, "It's called humor, you need some."
As if he really thought she'd eat the children to keep them safe, shards.
He rolled his eyes at the rest of it, in no mood to argue with a dragon when Ekarth was silently vigilant over his shoulder. The blue didn't take threats lightly. It was common for him to eliminate anyone or thing that might threaten their life. Better safe than sorry. Ba'sun lifted his hand, patting his dragon on the snout while mentally telling him they were not going to bother with it at the moment. Not in front of the children. Silly green was getting the thoughts from her rider anyway. Of course the strange martyr girl wouldn't realize that most of Selenitas dragons were from the north even before wasteland took over. She was probably one of those weird people that believed as long as they didn't see something, it didn't exist. Don't acknowledge it and it never happened. Blissful ignorance.
Ba'sun further ignored her in favor of the child, stooping forward to scoop the boy up in his arms, flipping him upside down to have his head hovering just above the grass. "Alright you little thief. You have about ten seconds to leave me to where you stashed the creche jars before I feed you to Ekarth."
Musst I wait sso long? I'm hungry now. The blue tongue snaked out, flicked against the boy's exposed abdomen. A squeal of laughter ensued, but Ba'sun didn't let up on the stern expression. "Right. He's hungry so make it Five – Four – Three." Each count down earned another lick from Ekarth. Before Ba'sun made it to zero, Ralor breathlessly surrendered, promptly being released to roll into a flopped heap on the grass.
His dark eyes turned to Erilena, scrutinizing her expression. With his luck so far, she'd probably think he was torturing the boy. Uptight much? Tch. "Would you stop acting like I'm going to strike you down for daring to breathe around me?"

She indeed did not notice the movement of Ba’sun’s hand. Instead she was focused on the boy. Even had Erilena seen the reaction it was doubtful she would have thought anything of it anyway. Instead her eyes went briefly to Shoal, back to Ralor, and then to the bluerider again. It was mainly the baby who was on her mind. Somewhere in the back of her mind the greenrider realized the mistake she had made in voicing the baby’s name. The man had not reacted so perhaps he had not heard her? Erilena hoped so anyway. The previous Weyrleader’s children where obviously dead, or in Miguel’s case missing. That Shoal was here and alive wasn’t really a safe thing. If S’rei indeed was truly alive couldn’t they use the boy against him similar to how they no doubt did Kaegan and Kai.
Hazel eyes went to Feyrianth. A silent request for the green to go home. I will not leave you with them. Erilena frowned. Fey. It’s fine. Nothing will happen and anyway this is a break remember? I have to go back. This little interaction only made more concrete the fact that, unfortunately, the greenrider could no longer let her dragon flutter around while she was not present. Had Feyrianth pulled that with anyone else from Wasteland she would likely be dead. Thus by proxy they both would be. It was too dangerous and the four winged dragon too friendly, too possessive with that which she considered claimed by her like the children, and Erilena herself. To let the green wander would be like signing her own death certificate wouldn’t it? Although those from Selenitas where well used to Feyrianth, there where others present now who the greenrider was sure would slit her dragon's throat without second thought and probably not a shred of remorse. And that would be it. End game for them both. Careful Erilena was to hide the majority of this from her bonded. No need to upset or frighten her.
Finally with a final longing glance back at the children and a nervous one for her rider Feyrianth launched herself skyward and with a few quick strokes of her wing started back towards her own weyr. Only then did Erilena turn her attention back to Ba’sun to watch him interact with Ralor. The whole thing only caused mild anxiety. The boy seemed fine. Perhaps used to the man and Ekarth, so it was entirely possible the bluepair had been around many times before. Which was accepted. The children where not really hers after all and plenty of people visited. Relaxing only slightly the greenrider tugged fingers through her slightly tangled blonde hair and then jumped as she was addressed.
“I….I’m…Okay.” The words ‘I’m sorry’ had jumped to mind but the woman swallowed them. Instead Erilena dropped her hand from her hair and tried very hard not to fidget in anyway. “You got what you came for?” Idly she looked back towards the other children and tried not to sigh. So much for a pick me up for Feyrianth. All she had succeeded in doing was pushing the green further into melancholy. Eyes going back to Ba’sun she attempted a faint smile. Part of her wanted to ask about the baby but the majority of the rider was screaming that that was a very bad idea. Instead she offered. “You have a cute son. Sorry again about the trouble.”
Now what? Probably should get back to the infirmary. Now that the rider got what he wanted, he was likely going to leave anyway. It was obvious that this whole thing had been an exercise in awkwardness and... She really wasn’t even sure what else it could be called. However Erilena was more than just a little sure that both her and Feyrianth had just made a terrible first impression.

Ekarth watched Feyrianth depart, only once she was far enough away did he settle more fully on the ground with his back legs stretch out behind him and the front crossing to serve as a pillow for his head. He might have gone too, but the green's initial reaction to his rider bothered him. The girl might be likely to try and run Ba'sun through with a knife. Couldn't let that happen. Ekarth settled the calm blue eyes on Erilena, certain that if it came down to it, he could knock her pretty little head off her shoulders with a strike from his tail.
"Liar," Ba'sun briefly stuck out his tongue at the girl. "You're down right jumpy, and look on the verge of rattling apart from the shakes." A brow rose, but it was the boy that Ba'sun addressed next. Helping the kid to his feet. Not a second later swooping the boy up and over one arm to again put him in an upside position. "Don't you agree?"
"It's only Ba'sun, Lena."
"Would you say she looks jumpier than a box of frogs?"
"No, that's lame."
"Whaa?" Ba'sun lowered Ralor a bit so his hands could touch against the grass. Ba'sun squinted down at him, thoughtful. "Jumpier than a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs?"
"No.."
"... than a one-legged man at an ass-kicking contest?" Ba'sun tried last, sure enough earning a bought of snickering from the boy. Leave it to youth to prefer the one that included the word ass. Ba'sun released his legs, nudging him with the side of his leg. "Green jar, was in the top cabinet. Go get it." The bluerider watched the kid until he was definitely out of ear shot, only then did his dark eyes shift back over to the girl. "I personally would go with the long tailed cat one. You act like someone's going to be doing something to make you yowl."
Ba'sun kept his expression jovial, ignoring the rudeness in her question. Actually, dismissing it entirely because for the fact that he wasn't going to just go away after sending Ralor off for the thing he came out to fetch. The grin stretched at her comment about his son. Yeah, sorry blonde filly, couldn't play dumb after blurting out Shoal's name. He'd make it simple for her, since the creche folk already knew and didn't think to tell Erilena to keep her mouth shut. "If you like your old weyrleader," and no doubt she did, and even if not him, she was a woman and Shoal was just an innocent child. "Don't ever say that name again, to anyone."
If it was going to be such an issue with Selenitas natives to blurt out Shoal's name, he was going to dye the kid's hair.

Glancing at Ekarth as the blue moved Erilena turned back to Ba’sun. Just in time to catch his proclamation that she was a 'liar' and blink at his outstretched tongue. To be totally honest the greenrider was completely unsure as to what would be the proper way to react to it. Part of her wanted to childishly stick her own tongue out at him in return, part of her wanted to smile and the other part was just downright confused. Eventually she just settled for a unsure half smile and watched the bluerider interact with the boy. At least Ralor seemed happy.
Their topic of conversation though Erilena would have preferred switched. Of course she was jumpy, the whole situation could have been much worse. Or at least so the greenrider thought. Rubbing at her temple she just smiled lightly at Ralor until he was sent off then her eyes went back to Ba’sun. “I tell them to call me Eri and he insists still on Lena.” She murmured softly and mostly to herself. Like a typical little defiant boy really. That thought brought smile however brief across her face.
Speaking of boys. The woman offered Ba’sun a tentative light smile. Couldn’t be all that bad if the kids liked him that much. “I’m very jumpy. You’re both right. You could make metaphors up all day for it if you wanted to. They’d all be pretty apt descriptions I’m willing to bet.” A soft nearly humorless laugh. “I’m a right nervous mess. I know. I do it to myself more than half the time.” Especially lately. Damn what she wouldn’t give to have someone to pour it out to sometimes. Someone that wasn’t a cat or Feyrianth. T’ke was nice and he definitely meant well, but well he was more jumpy than she was more than half the time. And definitely more pessimistic. Sometimes she just felt bad talking to him about more depressing things. Nope in the end all she really had to rely on was herself. Stand on her own two feet. Damn words where what she clung to often now. Almost like a premonition if she looked back now really. At least in a way.
Hugging herself Erilena’s eyes widened at the next statement Ba’sun chose to voice and she briefly wetted her lips. “I didn’t mean to say it. It surprised me is all. I figured he had been dealt the same fate as the other two..” The greenrider trailed off. “But I won’t. You have my word. May I ask what his name is then?” Honestly curious as to the answer she glanced back at the other distant children and then back to the bluerider. So he did know then. And yet he still was protecting Shoal. Why? Wasn’t he a Wastelander? Didn’t they want S’rei dead? Yet here he was obviously concerned for the baby. No everything wasn’t always black and white. But shards wouldn’t it be easier if it was? Futile wishes. The world was painted in shades of grey especially as of late.

Not really, Ba'sun commented to himself as the girl spoke, deciding the line of conversation didn't hold any promise. If he had to make a comparison, it would be to her resembling a nervous mouse tossed into a room full of starving cats. No, even that wouldn't work because the cats would be justified in killing the mouse. They had to eat or they'd die. This Eri-Lena girl seemed to be anticipating to be hurt for no reason at all. Ba'sun wasn't at all amused by the impression - as if he went around beating children and women because he felt like it. Shards, he didn't really know anyone like that - a few of the younger men from C'leon's reign were a bit touched in the head, but come on, really?
She is talking, you realize. Oh, right.
"Shh," Ba'sun interrupted while bringing a finger up to his lips to emphasis the soft sound. "It's none of your concern. So don't," a pause as he shifted the finger to pin down Erilena's top one. "talk about it. At all. There is no Shoal to discuss, understand?"
His hand fell away as he reached up to pull at the wrap that kept the toddler in place. Ba'sun really moved around too much to carry him with his arms all the time. Besides, he kind of liked the stifled giggles some of the creche woman gave him when he fashioned it out of a pair of sheets. "I don't know. I call him buddy and kiddo, but I guess that's not an appropriate name."
What he wanted to call him was 'Bo', but he knew better than to develop that particular level of fondness to the kid. Ba'sun just couldn't get past that particular fond nickname to pick a proper alias. Thoughtfully he peered at the green rider, a cautious eye taking a quick glance to see if any spying lizards were nearby. Ekarth assure him that no, he didn't sense any minds large or small near to their spot. "You work in the creche a lot?"

Her eyes widened just a touch as his finger touched her lip and Erilena obediently fell silent, nodding slightly instead to say that she understood. Quiet, she could do quiet. She watched a bit curiously as Ba’sun shifted the little carrying wrap he had fashioned. Well Shoal seemed happy and that was all that really mattered right now anyway. That the baby was happy and safe. Not dead like his siblings. She swallowed, her eyes gaining a glassy quality for a moment before she pushed the thoughts away. Crying over them would not bring them back. Nor would it really make anyone feel better about it. The time to mourn had sadly passed weeks ago. Concentration now belonged on keeping oneself alive.
Shifting her stance Erilena gave soft shake of her head. “They make decent interim nicknames yes. He really needs a name though. Just in case someone asks so you are not left scrambling for one. Maybe fashion a name out of a few deceased riders? Or maybe from someone of the kitchens or something?” Her words where soft barely above a whisper. Probably was better that the boy was given some type of call by name. He couldn’t go by buddy or kiddo for the rest of his life.
Well technically the greenrider supposed he could but a real name would be better. To his question she gave a slight smile. “I try to stop by a little bit each day. As far as actually working here though, no. I work in the infirmary as an apprentice. This.” Erilena gestured towards the distant grouping of children. “Is more a desire to be around the kids and a way to bring some cheer into things. They’ve all gotten used to me though considering I have been popping in and out for over a turn now. So although I don’t actually work here I volunteer and they all know me by name.”
Looking back up at Ba’sun the greenrider gave a half smile. “Guess I must pop I at different times than you do. I’ve never seen you around before.” Because obviously he had to have been there at least multiple times before, Ralor knew the bluerider by name after all. Not that that was unusual, the kid seemed to have a habit of picking up on everything.

There she went, ambling down the right line of conversation and all he had to do was give a slight prod. The only people that would be able to argue the existence of child of some past dead riders would be the creche folk. They knew each of the children and Ba'sun knew they wouldn't be fooled. The idea of naming it after any weyrfolk was out because, dragon riders aside, the weyrfolk were the foundation of any weyr. The gossip vines were long and tangling among those folk. He knew better than to claim a child belonged to any of them.
"I was never good at combining names. Always let the mother do it," Otherwise he sons would all be suns - which would only lead to confusion when they got dragons of their own and all their honorifics sounded like each others. It would have been funny, he thought, to be some trio of 'Suns. Then they could have their own boys with sun names. The idea of flooding the ranks of Benden with the suffix would have amused him.
A slight wave of hand at the additional information, "You name me a rider no one really got to know, and can't really know anymore, and I'll pick a quiet drudge that went ignored and is no long here. He'll be a secret love child." Because the tale alone would make a whirlwind of gossip if it ever got out - and of course just amuse him to no end. Did you know that they were seeing each other and she even had a child? She never said a word! Then, as gossip naturally flourished, they would fill in the holes for him so in the end it would all make sense. Yes I did notice she gained weight that year, couldn't really tell under those loose dresses. Child must have been born underweight. Oh he even has his father's ears..
"I don't often linger with the kids. I just stop by long enough to rile them up to annoyed the creche workers, then I skip off on my merry way~"

Erilena fell silent again and let Ba’sun speak. She was getting the distinct impression that she was becoming a bit annoying to the bluerider. Gaze shifting to her feet the greenrider nibbled her bottom lip. Name. He wanted a name. It really was a shame she didn’t know many riders personally. But Erilena had examined the records of the dead in a, perhaps morbid, desire to make sure none of those she knew where dead. Unfortunately quite a few she knew had had their names on the list. Including an old classmate. A rider name though, the greenrider could pull one up. How about that High reaches bluerider that had died during the takeover? He wasn’t well known at all. Avoided more than likely probably. “How about V’kir? His dragon’s name was Ephrenth.” Not that Ba’sun probably needed that information. But one never knew. “You’ll have to let me know what you decide to call him. If you want to anyway.” Erilena offered softly before glancing once more at Shoal.
A soft amused snort was given at the bluerider’s last statement. “Oh. Well I’m sure they love you for that. Then again I’m not one with any room to talk. I basically do the same thing. All the fun with none of the work. Except I do try to help a bit more when I can.” Stepping back the greenrider gave Ba’sun a curious look. Now what? She probably should just go back to the infirmary and stop pushing her company on him. Erilena got the impression that he didn’t really seem to enjoy it that much. Not that she could blame the bluerider for that. The way they had met hadn’t exactly been that pleasant. No one actually liked tension and once it was there it was hard to banish. At least for her.
Still before Erilena actually did go.. She wondered... “I...Would you mind if I held him? Just for a minute? Please?" Yeah why did she just ask that? Maybe one of these days she’d learn to just….keep her mouth shut, and leave when it was obvious she should. Trying not to look too hopeful she attempted a soft smile. "I just miss them all and it would be nice to hold him again." Even just once.

He was tempted to pull the lip out from between her teeth, and Ba'sun face slowly scrunched as he repressed the urge. As far as he knew he wasn't giving her any reason to be nervous. Sort of had been trying to make her relax by being immature. It worked with most people. Oh well, he supposed, couldn't win over them all. Absently he scratched at the back of his head. "V'kir huh - guess I'll go with the ending since you probably don't know his full name." The hand traveled, running along his jaw; the dusting of coarse hair scratched audibly against his fingers. He drummed his fingers on his chin. "kir, kir, kir."
He started rattling through the drudges he had come across during his lazy time spent at Selenitas. The bluerider tended to prefer the company of the weyrfolk over other riders. "The ones I know are gone.. Dylena, Mehande, Gvene and uh.. Amarisa. So," the thoughtful gaze went up to the sky. Meshing names together was little different than picking shapes out of the clouds. Right. Sure. "Dykir.. Amarkir.. " Nose scrunching, Ba'sun shook his head to both attempts. "Mehkir. Uh.. Gvenir.. " The concept had been so simple, why did coming up with a name have to be so hard. "Vylen. Vene. Vris."
Ekarth snorted, openly sharing his next words. At thiss rate, 'buddy' is a good name.
Ba'sun shook his head, loosening the wrap as he bantered back at his dragon – handing Shoal over at the same time. "Hey, if we do Vene, could claim the honorific is V'e, you'd like that. Ve-ve. "Yeah, something like that." The blue dragon rolled over onto his back, appraising Erilena and the child from the new perspective. Pitiful, issn't it - have mercy. Make it end before the child hass to ssuffer ssuch a name.

Erilena gave a slight shake of her head. “No I’m sorry I don’t know his full name. Even if it was written on the death record I have forgotten it. However I doubt it was on there.” Which really wasn’t that surprising as most riders stopped going by their full names upon impression. Really now that the greenrider thought about it, out of all the riders she knew, she only knew maybe four full names and that was only because she had gone to candidate lessons with them. Absently the woman nodded as the bluerider went on to name the drudges he knew. Dylena, Mehande, Gvene and Amarisa. Hmm. No, he had not really asked for help in picking out a name but well Erilena wanted to help out. It was mostly for Shoal after all.
Shifting her weight she started running through names in her head just as Ba’sun started verbally making them up. A slightly amused smile was directed at the bluerider before Ekarth spoke. Though at first a little shocked to hear the blue’s voice, (despite living in a weyr hearing a dragon besides Feyrianth wasn’t that common for her), the greenrider ended up giggling. “He’s actually kind of right. Buddy is sounding a bit better right now. Though to be honest it’s not really your fault. The names are hard to combine. I should have picked a better male name.” Nodding decisively Erilena’s eyes then went to Shoal as he was handed over, the greenrider taking the baby gently and immediately shifting him to straddle her hip arms winding about him.
The woman’s attention then shifted to the baby solely for a few moments. “You’ve gotten so big! Eating well I hope.” Bouncing him lightly she placed a kiss on his forehead and closed her eyes for a moment. “I’ve missed you little guy. Thought you had gone to. I’m torn on whether to be glad or not that you’re still here.” Letting Shoal have a strand of her hair to play with Erilena sheepishly turned part of her attention back to Ba’sun. “Lets see. Dylenir, Amarir, Gveir, Vkirande, Mehir, Mehanir?… Not much better than yours really.” Half turning back to Ekarth as the blue again spoke the greenrider playfully stuck her tongue out at him.
“Yeah I know we kind of stink at names. How about you come up with a name then smarty-pants?” Adjusting her hold on the baby she gave an amused smile to the upside down dragon. It was becoming a bit easier to interact with them now that Feyrianth had gone. Well the baby helped too. No one who would willingly take the child of the former and missing Weyrleader could be that bad. No matter where he was from. Right?
