Nyssk padded softly through the jungle path, purple hued hide blending in perfectly with the lengthening twilight. Unlike some of the domestic whers the young blue could see perfectly well in the waning light. His wild eyes were not as sensitive as those of his domestic brethren. It was extremely easy for him to see where he wanted to go. It was perhaps that same wild blood that made the male so sensitive to the sounds and smells around him. Sensitive to the way the jungle he traipsed in should feel. There was a disturbance now for instance. It was too quiet along the path. The normal night sounds ceasing briefly as whatever was disrupting the normal rhythm of night activity passed. Curious.
A soft brush was given to the mid of Protected number one. Cease and desist loved one. He would make sure it was safe before she should continue. Not giving the woman enough time to book any complaint nor respond Nyssk moved off in a quick and predatory stalk towards the source of this disruption. Protected number one had to be kept safe at all costs. There was a possibility that this was at non threat. But the blue never left anything to chance. Not even a simple stir of silence it seemed. Head lowered the young wher shot for the jungle path, two toed feet finding the best places to hit to make his approach near silent. wouldn’t do to alert the threat before he even got there. Heat signature placed it as human. But what human?
In a sudden explosion of underbrush the purple hued blue wher charged onto the path before Dorava. Whipping around in one sinuous movement his wings flared, lips pulling up in a loud snarl, as he faced the greenrider. Calm whirling eyes narrowed on the woman. Nostrils flaring as he took in her scent. Female meat bag. Possible non threat. Smelled like the weyr. Belonged. Well then. Wings twitched as Nyssk folded them back in position tight to his spine. It seemed to be alright Protected number one. Merely a meat bag out for a evening walk. One eye coldly regarded Dorava. Perhaps.

Dorava hauled up short when there was a vague scent that was quickly getting stronger. What ...? When a vaguely purplish -? It was hard to tell given the failing light what exactly color it was. Anyway, when the wher appeared in front of her all snarly, she sucked in a breath and stepped backward. Even as she was now aware of what she'd been smelling. Oil.
Wait. Oil?
Oil meant a domestic wher. That didn't look like a domestic wher, though. Nor was it acting like on. But just as soon as Dorava realized that, it backed off and covered those massive teeth. Okayyyyy? Mystified, Dorava straightened a little. "Ummm ... hello?" She offered the wher, uncertainly.
Right now she was really wishing Aonith was around. Though the green would be there in a flash if she called for her. Yay for all that riderless between training they had done before the coup had been done. Whers were difficult to trust at the best of times. They weren't like dragons, and even Dragons could bite a person in two these turns. Whers always had. Some of them quite prone to it, too.

Nyssk’s head whipped back around to regard Dorava as he was addressed. The lesser creature was speaking to him? Did she expect an answer? How utterly adorable. Taking a deliberate step towards the greenrider, just to judge her reaction, he rumbled deep in his chest. The sound was not a growl but it was certainly close enough to be mistaken for one. Silly female was going the wrong way. Did she want to be out here in the dark away from the weyr? Didn’t she know it was dangerous? Obviously not. He’d have to protect her then too. Like he protected the rest of these silly humans. Yes. It seemed that the large blue had found his Protected number two for the night. Now where was his interpreter? He couldn’t make this lesser thing understand this without her. Ah speak of the protected one…
Nysania pushed her way out of the undergrowth behind Nyssk and, huffing to catch her breath, smacked him in the rump none to gently. Not that the wild wher responded with much more then an amused look. Oh hello there Protected number one. It had taken her a bit to get here. He forgave her though. She had been trying to shed those excess pounds after all. “You. You. Exasperating creature. How dare you…” The Weyrhealer began when she spotted slight movement, it was only then that Nysania caught sight of Dorava. Her wher had been blocking most of the greenrider from view. You didn’t tell me you found a person. You never asked. Came the simple reply before the large male moved away from Nysania, nostrils flaring as he scented the wind.
With a final glare shot to her mindmate the healer moved to approach Dorava. Hmm she had seen this one in the infirmary before. One of Kalierre’s wing members if she was not mistaken. The woman was trying to make a point to get to know everyone who worked in her infirmary. So perhaps it was a bit fortunate that Nyssk had run into this one. Now if she only could just remember the woman’s name. No matter she’d get it anyway. With a smile Nysania gave Dorava a nod of greeting. “I’m sorry about that hun. Nyssk likes to think he’s the ultimate guardian around these parts. Especially when I am around.” That’s because he was one. Ignoring her wher she continued. “Nysania’s my name. It’s nice to meet you. I believe you might work in the infirmary?”

Dorava had been a dragonrider a very long time. Long enough to be able to discern between a growl and a sound that was not a growl. Whether from a wher or a dragon. When he stepped toward her again, uttering that sound, she smiled slightly and reached out to scritch on his snout a bit. "Hello to you too." she offered in an actual greeting that wasn't laced with uncertainty.
She paused, watching as someone else appeared from the brush. Albeit a lot more noisily. "Good evening." Dorava greeted, recognizing her once she got close enough to actually see. Though her voice was pretty telling toward her identity, too. "Oh, no worries. He's doing a good job!" Dorava praised, patting the wher once more for good measure.
She laughed softly, and nodded. It would only play into predictability. The new Weyrhealer was certainly by far better known than a random apprentice, thus the one recognizing the other, but not the other way around. "I do, but during the day." Dorava answered. "I'm Dorava. Of Aonith. Triage Wing." She supplied easily. "I'm only an apprentice, yet." She explained.
But curiosity niggled at her. "What are you two doing way out here, if I might ask?" She posed, curiosity lacing her tone plainly. "I would have guessed you'd be closer to the Infirmary this time of day." Orrr ... maybe not? Dorava really hadn't memorized everyone's schedules, only aware of her own and those that she worked with. Nevermind her shift never really ended at all. "Maybe I am confused?" She offered.
"It is a very nice night, though." Dorava added, with a nod and smile. "Thus my being out here." She offered as an explanation. She just couldn't resist the urge to get out and walk in the cool sunset, watching the last rays setting the tree tops on fire. But then it had gotten dark, and now she was ... supposedly ... on her way back in. Unless she'd taken a wrong fork in the path somewhere. Which was entirely likely.
Which meant she had no idea where she was anymore. Dark did that to her.

The touch of Dorava’s fingers caused Nyssk to regard her coldly. Did he look like some sort of canine to be patted and praised for a job well done? An actual soft growl left his throat as the woman cheerfully said hello to him. What an odd thing she was. Moving his muzzle out of the woman’s range he lifted his head and snorted. Really protected number one? Must she converse with this strange lost female. Could they not just take her back to where she belonged and get on with their night? Before Nysania could give the purple hued male and answer the greenrider was patting him again and Nyssk gave Dorava a patient look before quickly and quietly moving away from her and closer to the underbrush. Enough touching.
Nysania watched her wher move to range himself behind them and then gave another smile to Dorava. “Good guardian or not he’s an annoyance at times believe me.” Her voice was friendly and light as she straightened out her shirt and then gave a nod. “Well met then Dorava of Aonith.” A dismissive gesture was given the comment about being the woman being only an apprentice. “Everyone has to start somewhere. The important part is your work ethic not what title you have currently. I’ve meet some apprentices that take their jobs ten times more seriously then Journeymen.” With that said the Weyrhealer gave a short laugh. “Oh I could ask you the same question. I don’t start my shift in the infirmary till the second morning candlemark. So the early evenings and nights are spent doing handler duties. I guess you could say in a way that I have two jobs. Although in this one Nyssk does the majority of the work.” A smile was given the blue behind her who was quietly reading the signals the night was giving him.
Looking back at Dorava Nysania nodded. A nice night indeed. “Good night for a walk. Nyssk sensed you heading back into the jungle though. Was that your intention?” She questioned head titling to regard the other woman. “This close to the weyr it should be okay but well you never know a stray feline or two has been know to try the feeding pens from time to time.”

Dorava curled her fingers back into her own hand at the growl she got out of the wher. Okayyyy ... little wher was not a friendly sort. Note taken. Dorava smiled at Nysania while she stuffed her hands into her pockets. She supposed she was entirely too used to the draconids around her being more or less friendly. Aonith, Love (sometimes), and in the past Mandyr and Valiant. Wow, her world was rather limited, she realized. In the future she would think twice before offering to be friendly to a draconid she didn't know.
"Indeed we do." Dorava answered. "And I suppose you're right. That applies to all fields, though. But I think ... I think that if someone is going to do something, they might as well give it all they've got." Of course, 'all they've got' varied from person to person. That sort of paradigm sometimes got her labeled as a perfectionist, but there was a distinct difference between doing the best one could, and perfectionism in her mind. If it was the best you could do, then it was good. If not ... keep trying until that medium was reached. "Oh, I didn't realize, I'm sorry." Dorava apologized. "I admit I don't know the shifts as well as I probably should. But, as you said, my own is not this time of day either. I work more through the middle of the day, between drills and other duties." She chuckled, and shrugged. "Most of us have two jobs I think. I do admit I prefer being busy rather than idle. It keeps me out of trouble." Most of the time.
Dorava's mouth opened, then shut again. She pointed the way she was going with a questioning look, before looking back the way she had come. "Uh." She started, before giving Nysania a sheepish smile. "Oh. I am glad you caught me then. I thought I was headed home. How do you keep from getting turned around in the dark? I most certainly don't want to run afoul of a feline." Or worse. But she didn't say that part - mostly because it might be construed in ways not meant by any given Wherhandler. It wasn't the whers she was afraid of so much as other two-legged nasties.

Nysania waved of Dorava’s apology and gave the woman a smile. “Oh don’t be silly dear you have nothing to apologize for. I don’t expect any of my healers to memorize the schedule obviously. Would be quite a bit silly if I did.” Quite silly indeed. As long as her workers showed up and on time she was happy. And if they wanted to play hooky they had better damn well find a suitable replacement. And or trade shifts. The older woman didn’t tolerate laziness nor tardiness very well at all. With a glance toward Nyssk the Weyrhealer nodded. “I suppose that is a true statement. Most people here in the weyr do not seem the idle sort at all. The place is always busy with something or other going on. I do admit it’s nice but I wonder if any of you ever do take a break.” With a chuckle she nudged against her wher’s mind. If there is nothing out there love we should get to walking this one back yes?
The purple hued male turned to his handler and gave her a mild look before moving to slip into the underbrush. Yes. Time to walk this new Protected number two back. With a flick of his tail the large blue disappeared completely into the forest. Do not dawdle Protected number one. There was still much to do this night. With a roll of her eyes Nysania moved to Dorava’s side and smiled warmly. “Oh you get used to it after you’ve been roaming these woods night after night. Learn your directions well and how to recognize things in the landscape. You have to. Plus Nyssk’s senses are quite amazing. He’d keep me on track even if I did happen to get a little turned around.” Pointing in the right direction the chubby woman gently nudged her new companion.
“Now then hun, step lively. Nyssk and I will walk you back. Don’t worry about any felines or the like he’ll keep them away. Scary beast that he is. You might not see or hear him but I assure you he is here.” Falling into step beside the dragonrider Nysania remarked cheerfully. “Now why don’t you tell me a little bit about yourself Dorava? Your accent doesn’t sound completely southern. Are you from the north?” While they walked she might as well get to know the woman a little. It was a fair distance back to the weyr after all.
