It was a lovely day. Blue skies, a few wispy clouds and a gently breeze made the jungle a pleasant place to be for once. The river giggled playful in its banks as it tumbled over rocks. It was a good day for a walk or just to relax and enjoy the scenery. Unfortunately for three young weyrlings, there was work to be done.
Farryl didn't really mind the chore, though. Gathering food was important for the Weyr's survival right now. It was also a great excuse to wander around in the jungle without all that bother of asking permission. This way, they were practically ordered outside. It was perfect! It did mean time away from Peppeth, who was finally growing large enough to be clumsy among the trees, but they would be back before long anyway.
Farryl glanced at her companions. Two boys from her class, Ke'rin and A'fyr. She knew Ke'rin fairly well, but hadn't really gotten to know A'fyr yet. Today would be a good opportunity. Farryl carried a large basket, partly full of fruit and a long, hunting knife. Hopefully she wouldn't need that for anything more than tricky plants. Hobbs was curled around her next, snoozing, while Tille danced through branches to see what she could explore.
Farryl quickly tired of working in silence and decided to strike up a conversation. "How are Jaymith and Rudolth doing? They are getting pretty big now, aren't they?" Dragons was usually a safe topic. She hadn't meant a rider yet who didn't have something to say about their partner, good or bad.

((lol, Rudolth's name still has a TH on the end. xP))
A'fyr rather enjoyed gathering, especially on a nice day like this. In his opinion, it was one of the easier chores, as long as one didn't mind trekking through the jungle. A'fyr had also found some nice fallen branches to use for his carving. This time he was venturing out with two weyrlings from his class. He knew them a little, but nothing past friendly acquaintance.
Nononono! Beauty chattered nonsensically, not happy about having to be around people she didn't know. The flitters didn't bother her, but she worried that the humans would try to pet her. A'fyr hushed her, petting her. "Come on, no one will try and touch you," he promised. Nono stupidhumans! She dashed down his arm and jumped to the ground, darting off and becoming invisible among the greenery. Maybe he should have called her Camo.
"Rudolth is doing good," A'fyr said, the topic of his dragon bringing a smile to his face as usual. "He's getting big, and he's filling out. He still doesn't have much confidence, though." He shook his head ruefully. A'fyr couldn't understand why Rudolth couldn't believe in himself.

"Jaymith is getting so big I don't know what to do with him." Ke'rin chuckled lightly, looking over a small shrub for any sign that it might bare fruit in the near future. Unfortunately it was still far to early in the season for blueberries, and not even a flower was visible against the greenery. "He has size and confidence to spare, so if Peppeth and Rudolth ever wanted to borrow some I'm sure the big silly wouldn't notice at all."
Gathering had never been one of the boy's favoured passtimes, but even menial labour spent in the company of relative strangers beat kitchen duty six way to sundown. Of course, Farryl wasn't really so much of a stranger anymore. A'fyr on the other hand, was someone he had hardly spoken to at all outside of weyrling classes. He had aimed to change that of course, but the appropriate time and place hadn't really appeared before now.
"Beauty seems a little on edge." Kei mentioned lightly, his pale eyes snatching a breif glimpse of the green as she darted off into the foliage. "It's not because of us I hope?" In all honesty, he couldn't say that he felt bad about the salamandyr's departure. Ever since Saeo's monstrous little green had eaten Lamb's clutch, his opinion of the creatures had fallen from disintrest straight into contempt. He had yet to see anything more promising from the latest clutch.
