Rawign frowned slightly. He should have known Kali wouldn't answer, but it annoyed him a little nonetheless. She owed him no explanations, and he knew that, but some part of him was hoping she'd at least tell him what was bothering her. It was more than just Z'hin, it had to be. He'd never, ever seen her upset before. Oh, it was reasonable enough that Kalierre would be upset at a friend being hurt. (He didn't know how close they were but she seemed to know him when he'd first met Kali.) But... actually displaying anger was... well, it was unusual for Kali from Rawign's experience. He'd been at Selenitas several months, since Aslath's flight, and he hadn't ever seen Kali angry. Not once. Not that he spent much time with her, but she seemed like the kind of person to take that negativity, swallow it, bury it away where no one else could see it, and then turn it to something constructive. That calm composure, he envied her.
He didn't ask for elaboration, though. Instead, he took the jar that Kali offered him and looked it over before nodding. He could handle the infirmary on his own. If anyone else needed someone to leave he'd just send one of the apprentices, there were several really good ones who probably would know how to handle themselves. Some of them were very, very talented. His shift would last a little while longer too. Because of his screw-up, Rawign was actually tempted to suggest he stay on for a second one, but he didn't think Kali would appreciate that all that much.
"All right," he said quietly as he grasped the jar, careful to avoid dropping it or something of that nature. "You should get some sleep. I hope Jessereth is okay. Will you ask Phremath to tell him for me?" He didn't ask if she and Phremath both would be all right. He'd done that already, after all. Handling the infirmary on his own wouldn't be a difficult task unless Z'hin slipped again, but he was sure that he'd be okay. It wasn't just Rawign being naive, either. Kali had handled that admirably, and he intended to watch Z'hin like a hawk the entire time he was waiting for him to wake up, and when the other Journeymen came in, he also intended to badger them so that one of them stayed with Z'hin at all times. If he had to move away from Z'hin's bed to check on another patient, there would be two apprentices nagged incessantly to babysit the brownrider. No more mistakes. No.
"Sleep well." Without waiting for a response to that, Rawign scurried out of the office and back into the infirmary to follow Kali's instructions and add the jar's contents to the saline solution. And when Z'hin woke up, he'd give him an ear full for being neglectful of his health.
