Raylin woke early as usual and quietly gathered her daily clothes and items. She took a last sweep of the room making sure everyone was still asleep before she tiptoed out of the girl’s barracks. The candidate was being absurdly careful to avoid making any noise. She wanted no tagalongs.
Once out of the barracks she navigated the stairs, made her way through the common room, and walked out into the quiet dark predawn air. She stretched her cramped muscles and took deep breaths of the fresh air, before walking swiftly to where the boats were moored.
Living in trees had its advantages and disadvantages the dark haired candidate thought to herself as she untied a boat and quietly paddled to the beach where the rider’s dragons frequently sunbathed during the daylight hours. She reveled in the stillness of the predawn sky. The sun had yet to break over the horizon and everyone or most everyone was likely still asleep.
Raylin had started this ritual a few days after coming to Selenitas Weyr and was too used to it to break off now. After all, being part of a farming family, she was used to being up before dawn and old habits die hard. She grounded the boat and gingerly stepped onto the sand wiggling her toes in the fine grains.
She set her daily outfit, which consisted of shirt and plain britches, down on large chunk of driftwood and proceeded to strip off her nightgown. The raven haired girl shivered as the cool morning air caressed her slender body. She trotted down the beach, dropped a small bag of sweetsand onto the pebbles, and without even taking a pause dove into the cold river water. Raylin gasped in a lungful of air as her head broke the surface. The water was deliciously cold after the sweltering heat of the candidate barracks. It felt good to wash the sweat off her skin. She swam for a few minutes and then waded back to the beach. The girl retrieved the sweetsand from where she had dropped it on the beach and grabbed a generous handful. She then returned to waist deep water and began to scrub her hair. She would have to hurry if she wanted to be clean and dressed by the time the sun began to rise.

Coming up from downstream was a large water-sloshing sound. In the predawn darkness it was hard to tell what it was, all that could be told was that it was something big, and it was in the water, headed upstream.
Very shortly, it became apparent what it was, as it stopped moving, and changed shape.
Having been creepy-crawlying up the riverbed, claws sunk into the stony bottom, Aonith had been sneaking along just for kicks. She had had her neck stretched out, head under the water as she traveled, nostrils surfacing at intervals for a breath, only her back and parts of her wings had protruded from the river. And the amount of water she was displacing was making an interesting rushing water sound.
With her head underwater, Aonith had spotted those legs flashing around in the water, and had wondered what it was. After getting nearer, she had stopped, and realized that there was someone ... a human ... walking about in the water. Curious who it was, she lifted her head out of the water, and looked down at the girl before her as water ran off her head and down her neck.
It was this lifting of her head out of the water that informed the girl what she was looking at in the predawn light.
Aonith had no idea who this was ... but they were awake and moving. Unlike hers. So, she decided to explore further. Hello, little one.[/color] She greeted, quietly. Not that anyone else could hear her anyway. It was just a habit she had inherited from hers, for early morning hours.

Raylin was just beginning to wash the sweetsand out of her hair when she noticed the water rippling in odd rather largish waves. She saw something out of the corner of her eye and turned to have a closer look. It was a dark shape moving steadily toward her and it seemed to be the cause of the sudden disruption in the water. Her eyes widened in fear. She had no idea what kind of creature it could be but if it was hungry she defiantly didn’t want to stick around.
That same cold fear kept her rooted in spot as just feet away a huge sparkling green draconic head rose from the water’s surface and regarded her with whirling blue eyes. The fear immediately turned to awe as the candidate realized it was a dragon. The creature most defiantly wasn’t interested in eating her but where was its rider? She hadn’t seen anyone on her way to the beach nor did she see anyone currently on it unless they were located farther down the sandy spite of land.
Raylin’s musings where cut short however, as the dragon in question addressed her in a quiet tone. Her eyes widened in shock. A dragon had actually spoken to her! It wasn’t anything like she had expected it to be. The clear quiet voice had come from inside her mind. She most certainly had not thought that statement herself so the dragon had to have spoken to her.
“Hello there.” She breathed quietly to the beast her voice containing something close to gratitude. She had read that dragons normally did not speak to persons besides their riders and for one to speak to you was sort of like a rare and special occurrence. She took a shuddering breath and continued to watch the green. It was gorgeous completely and utterly perfect.
How lucky did a person get in one lifetime? The candidate had almost seen all of the dragon colors now. A blue dragon had searched her, she had been lucky enough to ride bronze Corinth and now she was having a close encounter with a green. Raylin smiled up at Aonith. Even if she was not lucky enough to impress a dragon of her own the things she had experienced since coming to the weyr where more than she ever expected or felt she deserved. She never wanted this experience to end. She tore her eyes reluctantly away from the green and waded to the shore.
Raylin hurriedly dried herself off and dressed. She then straightened up and turned to look at the green again. “I am going to watch the sun rise if you want to come. I would defiantly enjoy the company.” She bowed once to the green and waited for her answer. She desperately wished it would be yes but knew that it would most likely be a negative. Or perhaps the green would decide not to honor her with an answer at all?

((lol, I stalk your posts. xD))
Plop. Ripples spread out from the place where the pebble had left Tr'esn's fingers and fallen into the water, his grays mediatively hovering on the water where the stone had entered, his fingers already caressing the smooth rounded damp pebble that he'd picked up next. Tr'esnmine, look! Oquith exclaimed, rather suddenly, pressing her muzzle into his palm; Tr'esn blinked in shock, dropping his stone as he felt something new push into his palm, cupping his fingers loosely around it and bringing it up to view after rubbing Oquith's muzzle lightly, turning the object to catch the dim light. "It's - it's - wow, Qui, it's beautiful!" And it was, in Tr'esn's highly biased point of view, a glittery stone tied around with a small vine in a clumsy knot, clearly an achievement with Oquith's blunt claws. The boy beamed, shaking his thick tawny curls out of his eyes, soft lips curving upwards into an earnest smile, an almost maternal pride for his Qui rising in him.
I love it, Oquith agreed happily, rubbing her head along his legs with a purr. It's nice out here, isn't it? The green paused, cuddling against Hers. Why doesn't everyone come out here this early? Tr'esn watched the green dragon affectionately. If everyone came, it wouldn't be so nice, he pointed out, shivering slightly as a cool wind blew past his skin, rubbing his pale skin lightly, lips softly parted in his smile. Ohh. I see. Yes. I like it out here. Just us. Oquith crooned excitedly as she pounced in the shallows, Tr'esn sitting up and drawing his legs against his chest, rocking lightly as he locked his hands around his knees, watching the green emerge triumphantly, soggy, from the water, clutching a glittering, wet stone clamped in her maw. Look, another shiny! What'll you do with them all? Tr'esn asked, amused. I'll give them to Qualuth and Wymeth and to you, Tr'esnmine. Silly. You'll drown them in shinies. But you can't drown in shinies!
"Maybe not," Tr'esn acknowledged out loud, the Greenweyrling pressing his chin against his knees in a childish gesture. Can we walk up the stream, Mine? "Not too far," Tr'esn objected automatically. "We have to get back to the Barracks soon, or the Weyrlingmaster - " Reysalth's. " - right. Lauranna. She'll be coming by in another few candlemarks for our morning run." You hate the morning run, Oquith commented sympathically, starting up the river. Tr'esn followed automatically, uncurling himself from his perch and trotting after the green, barefoot, with an oddly smooth gait that covered ground effortlessly. "Right. I know." A sigh as he hopped around a rock. "They can all outrun me." It doesn't matter. When I can fly, we'll outfly all of /them/! The green's encouragement heartened Tr'esn, eliciting a smile from the boy.
Look, Tr'esnmine! A green. Ohh - what's wrong with her wings? Tr'esnmine? The boy had frozen, watching Aonith and the girl uncertainly. He'd never seen Aonith before, slinking around in his Candidacy and reserved as he was; neither was he familiar with the girl. The Greenweyrling sucked in his breath, automatically flicking his head to let his thick curls drop, a concealing curtain, between himself and the girl and the dragon, his large grey eyes flicking tentatively to watch them. You don't talk too much, Oquith noted. Only to Qualuth's and Wymeth's when I ask you to. Can you talk to the girl? Tr'esn shuffled uncomfortably, one hand settling lightly on Oquith's head. I...I don't know... I think you should. If you'll talk to the dragon? Oh. Oh. ...Maybe... For me, Qui? A pause, and then the green crooned in assent. All right. All right. I will.
Tr'esn curled his toes uncertainly around the stones that pebbled the bank, peeking shyly at the girl through his hair. Definitely older than he, and, as most people were, much taller. Biting his lip, the Greenweyrling took a tentative step forward, raising one hand in greeting. "Umm...hey," he offered, his voice faltering slightly. "Uh, I - I - if it's okay - I was wondering why you were out so early? Not many people are," he explained, his soft, pre-puberty tones cracking in embarrassment as Oquith sidled towards the water's edge, tilting her head to regard Aonith. Can I share the river with you? the green queried shyly, ducking her head with a slight croon as she wrapped her tail around her haunches, flicking it over her forefeet to conceal the conspicious lack of talons on one foreleg and one hindleg, and tucking the edge out of sight as well.

Aonith tilted her head to one side as she watched the girl leave the river, dry off, and dress. Other than her own, she'd never seen another human wit no clothing on before. It was rather ... strange. But it held her curiosity, too.
Watch the sun rise? Neat! While Aonith often watched the sunrise from her weyrledge, it was not nearly as interesting to watch alone. That magical moment right at sunup. Marvelous! That would be wonderful! And at that Aonith wished she could take the girl somewhere high to watch it from ... like the top of the weyr or something. But she still wasn't allowed to fly. The only thing that kept the goldfish-memoried dragon from breaking that was the constant reminder of how much that wing itched under that hide.
Aonith's head swiveled as a very young weyrling and hers walked up to them. She watched quietly as the two appeared to be quite shy. When asked about the river, Aonith almost smiled, in draconic fashion. You may come in. It is cold. Aonith warned, before lifting one wing out slightly, in an inviting fashion, lowering her head slightly. I won't be in here long, though.

“You will watch with me. That’s great!”Raylin exclaimed not even bothering to try to disguise the joy in her voice. She was going to have company this morning and better yet that company was a dragon. Still she wondered who the dragon’s rider was and why she or he wasn’t here. Weren’t riders always with their dragons? Raylin jumped when Tr'esn spoke she had been concentrating on Aonith and had not heard the boys approach. Had she been listening she might have heard the crunch of sand announcing the duo. The candidate tried to gather her voice and still her trembling body, fighting against her own nerves. You are being silly she chided herself. He was only a boy probably around the same age as one of her younger brothers. That thought helped calm her immensely.
She was able to quiet her slight trembling and when she spoke her voice only wavered slightly. “I always get up this early. I find a sense of peace in the quietness. Plus I like to watch the sunrise.” As she spoke her voice became calmer and her trembling stopped. “We were just going to watch the sunrise.” She gestured toward Aonith. “You and your dragon are welcome to join us if you want.” She smiled at Tr’esn it was easy to talk to him now.
He seemed very much near her brother’s age and his small stature made her less uncomfortable. Waiting for his answer she began to come up with many more questions she wanted to ask him. The dark haired girl had noticed the boy’s discomfort however so she bit her tongue. No sense making him even more uncomfortable by plying him with unnecessary queries about himself and his beast.

Oquith's sides puffed out in her soft, nervous croon, the tiny green dragonet slipping into the cool depths and huffing playfully, sending ripples spreading across the once-serene surface of the water. Thank you. Tr'esnmine and I have to go soon too, she added, explanatorily stating, Reysalth's makes all of the Weyrlings go on a run in the mornings, but I don't think Mine likes it very much. Flicking a glance at Oquith, Tr'esn slid his foot uncomfortably on the edge of the river, wriggling his toes through the water and kicking a slight splash on Oquith, who flared out her wings, the kaliedescope of greens flashing, with a playful croon at Hers. That's not a conversation, Qui. Fine. Fine, came the reply, though it wasn't unhappy as the green darted suddenly out of the water, pressing her muzzle briefly into Tr'esn's hand and picking up the object she'd made earlier.
Sliding back into the water, she thrust out her head, offering the glittering stone to Aonith. For you, maybe? I made it for Wymeth, but I can make her a new one, and she's not here right now. Oquith bounced slightly in the water, the slight waves licking at her sides and spilling over her small frame onto her back and lower neck, a slight huff emerging from her maw around the stone when the liquid sloshed higher, wings unfurling again. Mine hasn't seen you before, the green added. So I don't know your name. My name's Oquith, and that's Tr'esn. He's Mine. So stating this, the green flicked a glance at Raylin, and then cocked her head quizzically at the much larger green. Is she Yours?
Tr'esn dropped his head lower still, his thick, unruly tawny curls dropping between his wide gray eyes and the girl, pale cheeks coloring slightly. Had he frightened her? He hadn't meant to. He had been completely soundless in his confidence as he'd slid along the bank, but he'd have thought she'd at least have heard Oquith, as the little green hadn't managed to walk soundlessly yet. Well, maybe not. Her answer drew a brief nod from Tr'esn, who found himself tongue-tied after that. What was there to say? What a miserable conversation-maker he was, the Greenweyrling thought absently, watching the ripples of water created by his Oquith. Aren't you going to say hello? he queried, nudging her towards Raylin, but the green huffed softly. She's human, though. And that's not right. I haven't even talked to Wymeth's or Qualuth's. That wouldn't be right! ...If you say so.
"Thanks," the Greenweyrling offered quietly, making his way to a large rock and pulling himself onto it with a smooth motion, tapping his heels lightly against the rough gray stone. "I'm Tr'esn, by the way," he added belatedly, flicking her a rueful grin. What a blunder. But Tr'esn was unused to introducing himself at all. After all, nobody noticed him. He was merely a background to most people. A Drudge. Nothing. Nada. You matter to me. You're /Mine/, Oquith commented. Not anymore. I mean, before. When those mean people were mean to Mine? Lighttower Hold. Right. Tr'esn gestured slightly at Oquith, in the same motion pushing his curls out of his eyes. "That's Oquith," he added, his voice soft again.

Aonith settled down into the water, laying on the river bed and arching her neck slightly, watching the younglings crowding around her. This was really interesting! She'd not been surrounded by so many younglings since she was a youngling herself. And she found it felt really nice.
Maybe that was why Queens sat on the sands so dilligently when there were eggs there?
Aonith rumbled lightly, happily, eyes swirling merrily as she listened to all the chattering going on between the little ones.
Delighted! I wish I could take you to a neally nice location for you to see it come up. Aonith told Raylin, before turning her head to watch the little green as she appeared to bubble over at her.
Running is good for yours. It makes him stronger. Aonith told Oquith, gently. Aonith watched again, as she moved out of the water, and then back again, with apparently something in her mouth. And then she offered it to Aonith! How sweet! But Aonith was left with a confounding riddle ... how to accept the gift? She thought on it for a long moment, before shifting her weight and lifting one forefoot out of the river, turning it palm-side up in front of the weyrling. Maybe this was would work?
Thank you, Oquith! That is very sweet and kind of you. I am Aonith, and mine is Dorava. She is sleeping at the moment. She told Oquith, her mental tones almost laughing. I don't know this one's name ... and she's too young to be mine. But she seems like a nice person, and we're going to go watch the sunrise together. Do you have enough time to come along and watch, too?[/i] She lowered her wings and spread them a little more, to help slow the flow of the water. Maybe then Oquith would not have as much trouble with it, then. She was so little!
Then a thought magically reappeared out of the deep, dark, abysmal depths of her mind which was where her memories usually went and never came back out of. Her attention focused on the little weyrling again, with interest. What was it like, inside your egg? She asked. Maybe she was small enough that she was young enough that she would maybe remember what it was like inside that tiny egg??

((Sorry I didn’t post yesterday had a emergency at work )) Raylin waited patiently while the boy gathered his voice. It was actually kind of nice not to be the one stammering for once. She knew from experience how hard forming words was when you were nervous so she waited just a bit longer to be sure that was all he had to say. “I’m Raylin, a candidate from Selenitas hold. The green isn’t my dragon she was just curious about me.” She watched the two dragons interact wistfully wishing that the green did belong to her. The candidate turned and smiled at Tr’esn. “Your dragon is beautiful how long ago did she hatch?” As she spoke the dark haired girl pulled herself up on the rough rock next to Tr’esn and flashed him an encouraging smile. Suddenly Aonith’s voice again sounded in her mind. She laughed and turned to the dragon. “It’s ok I know a place not far from the beach where you can see the sun come up over the river. It’s really beautiful, speaking of which the sky is beginning to lighten. If we want to watch it we better hurry.” Raylin turned to Tr’esn and gestured to Aonith, “She asked me a question.” She explained quickly. “If you and Oquith want to watch with us that would be great. We can talk more on the way if you want.” She smiled at him again before sliding down from her perch and taking a few steps forward. The candidate turned and waited for Tr’esn and the dragons a smile still gracing her features. She was quite enjoying her company this morning.

Oh, yes, Oquith was aware that running was good for Tr'esnHers, but he still didn't like it, and, thus, neither did the petite green, though the dislike confused her slightly. Hers could be quite adept at covering ground, but the morning runs demanded shoes and, unfortunately, they always tripped up Hers. Getting up early didn't bother him. Being humiliated didn't bother him. But stumbling after his Weyrling group in ridiculously outsized sandals, struggling to keep up - it bothered him. Oquith didn't pursue the topic, simply shrugging slightly as she dug what claws she possessed more deeply into the mud at the bottom of the river for balance. The river is very strong, Tr'esnmine, she commented. Then come on out. Don't get swept away... Not that strong, Oquith assured him lovingly, crooning in appreciation at Aonith as the larger green's wings stopped the river's current - mostly.
The little Greenweyrling uttered a pleased croon through the glittering, slightly damp stone in her mouth at Aonith's comments, jewel-faceted eyes glowing with delighted blues and greens as she pushed forward through the water and deposited the shiny solemnly on the older dragon's foreclaw. Does Yours often sleep in? asked the green curiously, head tilting. And yes, she did consider this early time 'sleeping in,' as Hers was used to getting up incredibly early - always earlier, at least, than Aberath and His, who shared the Barracks with them, partially because the bronze scared Tr'esn and he prefered to vacate the room before the bronze woke up and threatened to eat anybody. I think I'd like to come, she went on, and then leaned forward, adding confidentially, But Mine does not do so well at socializing. He's friends with K'iel and Vashickolessotelti because I asked him to be, but that's...all. I think it'd be good for him to have more friends other than Qualuth's and Wymeth's. Yes, she had memorized Wymeth's Rider's name, incredibly long though it might be. Wymeth was love and to Wymeth, Vashti was love. Therefore, Oquith loved Vashti as well.
Oquith hesitated, head cocked in thought at Aonith's question. Her egg? Hmm. Funny, but she didn't recall, really. It had been several sevendays since her Hatching and though she remembered the instant of Impression, the unconditional love and the bond and the irreversable linking of mind and soul - she didn't remember previous to that. Not really...a vague impression of darkness and warmth, and of course she remembered Wymeth and Qualuth, but past that...it was merely a blank. I remember.../something/, the green allowed hesitantly. Kind of dark...warm. Comfortable, I suppose. But lonely. No Tr'esnmine. But I knew it was going to be him, and I /felt/ him. So - so - it was nice, I suppose. Warm. As dark as /between/. Not that Oquith had ever been /between/, but she'd heard the stories, naturally, the songs...Black, blacker, blackest... and things like that. I don't know. It was - it was, well, I think it was - /safe/, really. Why?
Tr'esn kept his head lowered, watching Oquith and Aonith through lowered eyelashes, though half of him was concentrating on Raylin. A slight, rather incoherent mumble sounded through his lips at her introduction, something along the lines of 'Nice to meet you', though he was clearly uncomfortable. Greetings had always failed the Greenweyrling, and now was no exception. He tilted his head, the angle and wide, doelike eyes reminiscient of Oquith, studying Raylin briefly. Well, yes, he supposed she was rather young to ride a green when she was clearly scarred so deeply, considering her conspicious lack of apparent scarring. Her name is Aonith, and Hers is Dorava, Oquith supplied. "Aonith? You know her Rider?" he asked curiously, though his voice was still hesitant, the words tentatively formed.
Her question actually drew a smile to the full, formerly sober lips, Tr'esn's large grays gaining a sparkle of remembrance. "A couple of sevendays. Not long. Millieth's clutch. Didn't you Stand?" Most Candidates had, hadn't they? Did that mean she'd failed to Impress? A slight wave of pity washed over Tr'esn as he drew his legs up to his chest, rocking slightly. To be rejected - what would that feel like? His Oquith had Hatched for him the first time Standing for Tr'esn, and truth be told, he didn't think he could bring himself to Stand again had he failed to Impress. Stand again? Why? I'm Yours and you're Mine. You don't /have/ to Stand again, Oquith pointed out matter-of-factly. It's purely hypothetical, Qui. Oh. Okay.
The Greenweyrling almost missed the girl speaking to Aonith, his lashes fluttering as he tried to keep up with her statement. He hesitated, faltering as his hand tightened around his legs almost protectively, flicking a glance at Oquith, who crooned encouragingly. "...all right, I guess. We can come..." Raylin seemed nice enough, after all, and Tr'esn smiled shyly in response, the corners of his lips curling up into a clearly bashful expression, head still inclined slightly as he slid off of the rock, curling his toes under him to keep the rocks from bruising the soles of his feet, sliding after her silently, deftly making his way after Raylin and pausing only as he spun, waiting for Oquith to pull herself out of the water, scampering after Hers and butting her damp head against his leg with an excited croon, and then falling into pace with Hers and Raylin as he pressed his lips together, glancing at Aonith as Oquith reached towards the green, her wings unfurled as she hopped after Hers. Are you coming, 'nith? Do you mind if I call you that?

You know a place? Good! I would be delighted to see it. We should get moving soon, yes. Aonith agreed, tilting her head to consider the sky above. They would have to move quite quickly, to make it out of the forest before the sunrise happened. The inky sky overhead was already starting to lighten. Deciding to do something that most dragons never did … Aonith looked at the pair of younglings on the beach, and offered them both at the same time: I can carry you, and Oquith can follow along? She had no aversion what so ever to walking along with the two youngsters astride her shoulders.
And then she addressed Oquith directly. Mine does not so much as sleep in, as she does rise shortly after the sun. There is not much point in her getting up beforehand, so she does not. I do not expect her to get up even that soon, though, as she stayed up late last night, reading something. I am not sure what. It might have been a record. she paused for a moment, and then asked the little green a question. Would you mind if I carried yours out of the forest line? She didn’t want to upset the young dragonet, and the thought that her offering the two younglings might do just that had not occurred to her until just then.
She gave the little dragon a sympathetic look. Mine does not do so well with socializing, either. But I still hold out hope for her. Just … be supportive, and try to help him along. He will improve … even if only slowly sometimes. Oh, golly did Dorava ever have problems interacting! It often seemed as if she was speaking a whole other language, when dealing with other people. And that confused Aonith considerably.
The older green listened with much interest to what Oquith had to say about pre Impression. That was so long ago, that Aonith had no notion of what it had been like. It was all very interesting! She hoped she could remember it long enough to relay the news to Corinth. He would be interested to know, too, she had no doubt. Now that she had remembered that she had been curious on the topic, she also remembered that she had spoken to the Bronze about it. Very interesting! Was that how one remembered things? Build ladders in one’s mind? But instead of wandering off on another strange thought train, she concentrated on remembering the info that Oquith relayed. Like between? Was that where dragons came from? From between? It sort of made some twisted form of sense to Aonith … as that was where dragons went when they died … they went back to between, to never return. Kind of like that saying the humans had … what was it? From dust to dust? Were dragons from between to between? Golly … it was a good thing that dragonets came out of that shell, it must be mighty cold in there!
Aonith stuck her own snout into her claws, and sucked the stone up into her mouth, where she could pin it to the roof of her mouth until such time as she was able to put it down somewhere safe. Hers would know what to do with it! Thank you, little Oquith! Thank you. I will treasure this for many turns to come! And that would be true, too, even if she did forget tomorrow where she had gotten it, and from whom. It already had a special place in her heart. No one, not even hers, had given her a shiny, before!
Once the stone was safe, Aonith stood up out of the river water, and allowed it to rush by underneath her before she strode easily up onto the bank, following Oquith’s happy little form. I am coming! I am coming! And just in case either one of the two younglings wanted to ride, she promptly crouched down on the beach, one foreleg extended. If they didn’t want to, she’d merely follow after them. Morning adventures! How exciting! Aonith chuckled in her mind. I do not mind if you call me that. But you might get a lot of people and dragons confused, by using it. There are many dragons with that ending to their name. She told Oquith.

Raylin shook her head at Tr’esn. “No I didn’t get the chance to stand for Millieth’s clutch. I arrived a few days after the hatching. It was really quite unfortunate but then again I have horrible luck.” She smiled at the young rider, watching him slide off the rock, before continuing. “Your Oquith is really quite beautiful. You are very lucky.” She regarded the green dragons with a longing gaze. As she waited for the two dragons to vacate the river she gathered her belongings from the driftwood where she had placed them and tucked the bundle under her arm.
As Aonith’s voice sounded in her mind the candidate turned to face the larger green. She turned to Tr’esn after the dragon had finished. “You going to accept her offer? It would be faster and we are kind of running out of time.” Instead of waiting for his answer the dark haired girl strode up to Aonith and bowed. “Thank you very much Aonith. I would greatly appreciate a ride.” She flashed the green a smile before stepping up onto the proffered foreleg and swinging herself onto the beast. Aonith was much smaller than Corinth, the bronze she had ridden, and her personality was defiantly more eccentric. Every dragon she had met was as different as their rider. She supposed it made sense. It took all sorts in this world.
Raylin turned to Tr’esn and flashed him an encouraging smile as she made herself comfortable on Aonith’s back. She rather hoped the weyrling would accept the ride. It would make it easier to talk. She liked Tr’esn he was soft-spoken and kind. Not overbearing and rude as most other men she had met where. Although to be fair she had not met many men. She turned her head and surveyed her surroundings. The sky was beginning to lighten even more. They had better hurry or they would miss the sunrise.
The candidate patted Aonith’s neck and pointed at a small path through the trees that lined the bank. “If you travel along that path a ways you will come to a hill. From that hill you can see the sun rise over the river. It’s really beautiful most mornings.” She explained to the dragon before settling herself on the dragon’s back.

((I love how everyone knows Corinth. xD <3))
Oquith's head was tilted as she digested the information Aonith was offering her. No reason to get up before the sun? Oh - but - there was so much to do. And it was so peaceful, so calm, out before the Weyr had risen from its slumber. Nice and cool, too, unlike the dry heat of the day...well, each to his - or her - own. The young green gave a soft huff, though she didn't press the point. At Aonith's query as to Hers, her head tilted even more as she regarded Tr'esn. I don't mind. A slight bounce entered her step and she flared her wings exuberantly, flapping them as if to fly. Soon I'll be big, and /I'll/ be able to fly! she added, pressing her muzzle lightly against Tr'esn's palm again, neck stretched up to watch Hers adoringly. Mine said so yesterday, she confided to Aonith solemnly. He'd promised her, and Hers never lied to her.
With a slight croon, the green nuzzled Hers again enthusiastically, nearly causing him to loose his balance. Mine is just shy. He's from Lighttower Hold and he used to have to obey everything that people told him, and if he didn't, he'd get punished. Only then he came here and I found Mine. So now we're together, and now he doesn't ever have to be alone. We share Barracks with Aberath and His, she went on, her tone dropping to something that bordered on wariness. He is /very/ big, but I don't think he's very friendly and Mine says he's afraid that he'll eat us. Yes, the conversation that Oquith offered had taken a rather roundabout, wild path, but it made perfect sense to the greenweyrling. And it wasn't like it all wasn't true! Aberath did frighten her and Tr'esnHers was afraid of being eaten by the bronze. Never mind that, past the Hatching, he had yet to eat/sit on/maul anyone. He was still frightening. His wasn't as frightening, but then Tr'esn had never pushed him. Or really spoken to him at all.
That the older dragon liked her gift pleased Oquith to no end. A high warble emerged from the young green's throat, her eyes whirling joyfully, and she absently scraped her left foreleg, the one without the talons, in the sand, her wings drooping idly to the sand as well. I would like to call you 'nith, she commented shyly. I don't have a nickname for anybody. Not even Wymeth's, and /her/ name is /long/. The latter was uttered in a tone of playful suffering. No, she was pleased that her clutchsister had Impressed to Vashti, even if her name was obscenely long and a mouthful for both Hers and herself. If they get confused, I'll explain, she added after a pause, though the thought of talking to that many dragons.../was/ frightening. So many!
Oh, so she hadn't Stood. Tr'esn nodded in understanding, a faintly sympathetic smile touching his lips. A stab of cold fear slipped into his midriff, though, the small Greenweyrling frowning, brow furrowing in thought as he glanced down at Oquith. Did she recall? No. She hadn't been Hatched then. That green... A visible shudder ran through the boy's body, his train of thought cut off immediately, as he gaped at Aonith. Had she just - spoken to him?! Dragons didn't do that. Much less offer you rides when Theirs wasn't around. Right? ...well, apparently not. "I - I - " No, it most definitely was not his Qui. He recognized her mental tones anywhere, soft and slightly breathless, a high sweet treble. He swallowed, glancing at Raylin in time to catch her compliment to Oquith; it made the green croon happily. Do you think I'm pretty, Tr'esnmine? You're uncomparably gorgeous, Tr'esn reassured the green lovingly.
"I...guess I will," the Greenweyrling answered after a slow pause, blinking as he watched Raylin mount. Graceful. Assured. There was no way he could do that. Littler than some of the Weyr's dragons Aonith might be, but that still made her quite large in comparison to Tr'esn's nearly miniscule frame. Good thing Oquith seemed to be small, or he'd be unable to mount his own dragon when the time came, and that would be horribly humiliating. You can do it. I'll catch you if you fall! Oquith encouraged him, as Tr'esn smiled faintly at the little green, bursting into a slight run to gain momentum as he planned his movements. One hand pressing lightly against one of Aonith's neck ridges, he vaulted from her proffered foreleg, twisting with slight awkwardness to avoid crashing into Raylin, and nearly fell off the other side. Only tightening his legs around the green's neck and grabbing her neck ridge kept him from slipping right off the other side.
Good thing, he mused randomly, he hadn't been wearing any shoes, or they'd've gone flying. Tr'esn paused to catch his breath, leaning down to press his cheek lightly against Aonith's hide. It smelled different from his Qui's, but then...Qui hadn't ever been near firestone yet, which probably explained for part of the scent. "Thank you, A - Aonith," he said, stuttering over her name slightly; Oquith had injected, not the dragon's full name, but simply 'nith into his mind as her name. That didn't really seem - respectful, though. It seemed better, for time being, to go with her full name. He lapsed into silence as Oquith sat down at Aonith's side, eyes fixed on Hers, waiting for Aonith to lead, as Raylin gave instructions - and then his thoughts returned. That little silvery green. Millieth's clutch. Supposing - supposing that had been Raylin's dragon? And she hadn't Impressed, had gone between - because she hadn't been there? Oh. Oh, Faranth.
None of which he said aloud to Raylin, of course. Surely there were some dragons who simply - had nobody on Pern? Surely it couldn't have been Raylin's. Such a coincidence, such a near miss - it was simply too cruel to have happened.

Aonith happily got to her feet after both younglings were situated on her neck. And we're off! Come along, little one. She called, speaking to them all. She moved forward at a goodly pace. If she had been a runner, it might have been considered a trot. But the green's movements were far more fluid than that, and didn't jostle the youngsters on her back nearly as much. She knew she had a pair of inexperienced riders on her, and she wasn't about to let them fall off. Aonith moved quickly down the indicated path, head held high in a rather jovial mood. She was making friends! Maybe the youngsters would be hers' friends, too.
She followed the snaking path through the trees, glancing back to make sure that Oquith was keeping up. She didn't want to leave the dragonet behind at all, and would adjust her speed accordingly if she couldn't keep up. Oquith was the whole reason Aonith wasn't going any faster. The little green didn't have legs nearly as long as Aonith did.
You will fly, soon, yes. Keep up your practices, and your wings will be strong enough when they get big enough.[/i] Aonith offered, by way of a kernel of advice to the youngster. Aonith had been making sure to take those exercises, herself, while waiting on her wing to heal. She often stood on top of a large rock or outcropping, and slowly - oh so slowly - pumped her wings up and down. Not hard or fast enough to actually take off. But enough to keep her muscles toned. She didn't want to finally heal, and then suddenly discover that she was too atrophied to fly. Nope nope nope. Not Aonith. You can call me 'nith. I don't mind. Aonith rumbled pleasantly, deep in her body. If Aberath or his give you trouble... you let me know. Okay? I'll put some sense into their heads. She assured the youngling that trotted alongside her.
The trees fell away from the path, as Aonith moved up to the top of the hill. She topped at the very top, and looked around. Very nice! She approved, flaring her green wings briefly as she turned in place. She was willing to let them sit on her for the show, if they wanted. They could probably see better from atop her, anyway, as it made the trees appear shorter. The horizon really was awesome, as the very first sliver of Rukbat became visible.

Raylin smiled at the greens exuberance. She really was quite a character. Tr’esn had become quite and thoughtful, which was okay, she didn’t want to intrude on his thoughts. The candidate half-turned to watch Oquith trot behind them, Aonith had slowed just a bit to allow for the young green to keep up. The green scenery passed by them and Raylin watched it with a peaceful expression on her face. The weyr really was a beautiful place much better than the long pastures of her home.
The girl jerked forward as the dragon stopped, she had zoned out a bit and the stop startled her. She griped the ridge in front of her while she corrected her balance and looked out over the green’s shoulder. Just a sliver of Rukbat was visible and the sky was afire with the reds, and oranges of the sunrise. It was truly a magnificent sight. The water was colored a purple orange and the tropical birds were just starting to warble. This was the moment she loved best about the morning, when the day was born anew.
Raylin smiled and turned to look t Tr’esn. “It’s worth it isn’t it? I do this almost every morning. It is so peaceful and beautiful. For a moment you can just forget everything.” Why she had told him that she couldn’t quite recall but she decided she honestly liked the green weyrling. Perhaps they could be friends. Yes she would like that very much. She stroked the side of Aonith’s neck. Soon if fate permitted she might have a dragon of her own. Then they too could share this moment together.
