Vega did not even think to question the reason for his mother’s alarm. Her cry made him immediately take flight. He wheeled around the bench and gave a hiss as he witnessed Stupid’s thievery. The frilly had taken his shiny! Bad frilly! The pale flitter’s eyes gained flecks of red, a color that until how had never shown up. Vega circled again and gave an angry shriek as he witnessed Stupid frill. Mine now! Mine now! Ha! Mine now! HA! The creature’s voice echoed in his head only serving to agitate him more. How dare the frilly take the shiny that was by all rights his?
The flitter winged after his mother and watched as she swooped after the frilly driving it under another bench. Was the frilly trapped now? He gave a questioning flute and landed on the floor his small talon’s making a clicking sound as he approached the bench his eyes whirling yellow and red. Vega hissed softly at Stupid, ignoring his irritated cry. NO! MINE NOW! It most certainly did not belong to him. The pale flitter sent a demanding feeling to the mander and hissed. He wanted his Shiny back.

Had Stupid possessed a voice box as capable as that of a human, he would undoubtedly have been howling with laughter by now. Fortunately, he didn't. Unfortunately, that meant he had to settle for telepathic laughter, and that basically meant shrieking ha to the fire lizards, which he did with great enthusiasm. Ha! HA! HA, MINE now, is MINE! HA! Now...he pushed the necklace back in his claws and peeped around the bench - and, yes. The door. It had swung shut, which might have presented a problem had Stupid not been small enough to wriggle through the bottom. These feelings that were being thrown at him, that were not his own, however...Stupid hissed defiantly at the fire lizards, his gaze flushed with anger. Wouldn't they just let him alone? He'd gotten the necklace. He'd won. Game over. Did they not understand? There was no bonus round; there was none of that. He had won!
Zesa was not overly pleased, either, though for a different reason. To put it bluntly, the noise level. Shinies, however pretty, did not concern the queen. They were disposable (and besides, she already had one). But eardrums were not, for obvious reasons, able to be discarded, and the idiotic salamandyr was about as loud as a dragon and twice as irritating, considering the shrillness of his tones. She was tempted to simply between. There were other shinies, less bulky, like her little golden earring, to be easily found; nobody ever spited a fire lizard for taking a small earring here and there; most found it 'cute', didn't they? Well, leave the big bulky thing to the idiotic 'mandyr and get a new one. Simple.
Stupid took that brief hesitation and pressed his advantage, darting for the door, necklace trailing behind him. A duck of his head, and he was through the crack of the door, the necklace slithering after him until - a surprised shriek had Zesa hissing her disapproval as the necklace got stuck, a particularly large bead or shell jammed under the door. The Salamandyr all but writhed, the necklace spasmodically flicking across the ground, but - there was no help for it; it was simply stuck. Another shriek, and Zesa answered with a defiant hiss again, wishing that the thing wasn't quite so loud and his voice wasn't quite so penetrating. She hesitantly drew closer to the necklace, wondering if she could just snag it and then go between, but at that moment, Stupid slithered back through to the bathing rooms again and uttered another warning shriek. Stuck it may be, but it was still his.
Mine! Mine now mine now!

Lamb falt painfully torn, hoverig in the steamy air. Her mother was right of course. Vega's lived with the rest of the young humangreens, and they always had many, many shinies laying about. Finding himself a new one would be quite easy...but oh, wasn't it quite unfair that the brown salamandyr had taken the shiney he had wanted?
She watched with melancholy curiosity as Stupid wormed his way under the bathing room door -well, halfway anyhow, for the necklace got stuck. The shiney was too big! She trilled happily, tucking her dappled wings against her sides sos he could dip towards the floor. She flared them open at the very last moment to ensure a measured and graceful landing. The tiny green tilted her head at the salamandyr who stood several feet away, her whirling yellow-green eyes as beeseeching as they could possibly be.
Oh, surely the brown salamandyr would let her blue brother have the shiney now? He couldn't do anything with it while it was stuck inside the bath house, and it would be so very kind of him and oh please wouldn't he? They could find a different shiney for him where the humangreens slept?

((FAIL))
Vega hopped and glided until he was feet from Stupid. He little flitter hissed again. Flaring his wings to make himself appear bigger and more threatening. His eyes whirled an orange and deep red color. HIS SHINY? NO IT BELONGED TO HIM! The pale flit stalked toward the mander still hissing. If the frilly ran under the door again perhaps he could grab the shiny by the stuck part?
So absorbed was he in acquiring the shiny he failed to notice his sister and mother were still present, at least until his scared sister landed close beside him. He gave her a questioning chirp before turning his head back to the frilly and the object it had so wrongly stolen. Yes scared sister was right give him back his shiny.

Stupid did not like fire lizards. Especially greens ones. They looked far too much like tiny, wannabe dragons for the brown 'mandyr's liking, and that such a tiny, feeble thing could claim any relation to the real queens of the Weyr, the green dragons, frankly insulted him. Lamb couldn't help what color she was, or indeed what she looked like, but that didn't stop the 'mandyr from hating her on sight. A few feet away she landed, but she was too close to him by half the length of the Weyr. She needed to go away until she learned that she wasn't a green dragon! Her gaze, her mental pressure, drew only a hiss, so sibilant it was nearly inaudible, from the 'mandyr, his eyes flushed with anger as he flared his frill, the dark, honey-sheened chocolate brown, delicate folded hide stiffening as his hiss faded into a shriek of rage, the brown darting a foot or so forward at her, and then hopped back, tail lashing in his irritation as another sibilant hiss emerged from his throat.
The blue fire lizard that landed and threatened at him recieved nothing more than another hiss, his sides puffing as he flattened his frill and then bared his teeth, the sharp needlepoints gleaming in the light of the bathing room as he deliberately put himself directly in the path of the fire lizard and the necklace. It was his; what was it with these numb-skulled creatures that they could not understand?! The instant a human needed a bath and opened this door, it'd be his and they'd never have him or it. Wings they might have, but Stupid had teeth and a nosy recklessness that came from many near shaves at death and escape from all of them, and biting them? Not a problem. If he had nothing against attacking a nosy human, he definitely had no restraint attacking a silly, stupid creature who wanted to take something rightfully his.
He crouched warily, ready, against the stone floor, and at the questioning chirp by the blue, and the arrival of the gold, who landed silently and closed her wings, cocking her head, bright jeweled eyes examining him, he hissed, frilling and baring his teeth again. Mine! Is mine, mine, mine! Stupids, is mine, go 'way, mine, is mine! Why wouldn't they just get the point? He would not let them have it. No matter if they flamed at him or splashed water on him or even got the ridiculous broody goldidiot after him; they would not get it. And if they tried to? He'd make sure he gave them something to remember him by - a few scars along their throat or belly would do for a start, no? He was sure he'd left a mark on the Candidate, so why not leave one on these little things? They looked to Candidates; they'd said as much themselves, so there'd be no furious dragon after him unless their humanpets Impressed. And that could be awhile yet.
Zesa was silent, her tailtip flicking ocassionally as her brilliant jeweled eyes studied the brown 'mandyr, instinctively answering his hisses with one of her own, though she didn't make the sound audible to any but herself. It was just a shiny necklace, and an obscenely large, difficult-to-transport one at that. Leave it to the 'mandyr, she thought, and find a new one. They'd find one a lot faster than he could get it unstuck, anyway, and probably a nicer one too; a little silver earring, or, if she found a nice golden earring to match the one she had, that; a slimmer chain with a less bulky pendant, or - well, something. Weyrlings, Candidates, Riders of the female gender; they always had some sort of jewelry, be it costume jewelry or the real thing, and - well, it'd be a lot less trouble to get one of those than to wrest this one away from the determined brown 'mandyr.

Vega returned Stupid’s hisses but did not react further. As his mother landed he gave a questioning chirp and catching the train of her thoughts gave a reluctant croon of agreement. Perhaps it was best to let the mean frilly have the shiny. They would not get it back anyway it seemed. The pale lizard hoped the frilly choked on the sliver chain.
The blue flitter gave a short thrill and launched into the air sending Lamb and Zesa an image of the warm sand at the riverbank. Would they like to join him in sunning? Then perhaps scared sister could help him locate his own shiny. Why he would even share with her. He hummed at the pleasant thought of warm sand under his hide. Giving a final hiss at the frilly he jumped between hoping his family would follow in short order.

Lamb let out a tiny, frightened chirrup as the brown 'mandyr frilled at her, her eyes flashing a brilliant shade of yellow at the unexpected display of aggression. She stumbled backward a place, then made herself airborne with a series of hurried wingbeats. Oh! Oh scary! Oh very scary! A weak, whimpering sound hummed in the back of the little green's throat as she skimmed as near to the ceiling as was possible, watching Vega and Zesa intently.
They would leave now, yes? The large brown Salamandyr was being quite unkind and she was frightened...oh, oh yes, the riverbank! She chirruped her agreement to Vega's proposed activity. Oh, the riverbank was nice, so long as they didn't get too close to the water...oh, and of course she would help him find a shiney! There had to be many of them near the water and -oh!
Suddenly he was gone. Lamb knew that he had jumped of course so the act wasn't so very startling, but she keened unhappily at the thought of having to make the jump herself. She didn't like the cold and dark of Between...and it was such a very nice day and...oh, would her mother like to fly there with her instead? Blue Vega would understand, and maybe he would even join them when he found they weren't directly behind him. This was a good idea, yes? They could get out through one of the high windows and leave the unkind salamandyr with the shiney.

Zesa crooned softly, pleased with Vega's decision - the right decision, the queen thought; it simply wasn't worth it to argue with the Salamandyr - and then nodded, agreeing, with his comment. The river was a place she often went, usually alone; it was usually devoid of irritating 'mandyrs. There weren't, though, any shinies there, except for the possibility of a few small, glittery stones, but - well, they could do that later. She directed a soft hiss at Stupid, who frilled in response, still crouched in a defiant, protective position, straddling the necklace as Zesa started to leap between after Vega - at least, until Lamb's query touched her mind. She twisted mid-air, wings flaring to keep herself up, and chirruped, surprised.
Between was a necessary refuge for a fire lizard - from dragons, from Weyrbrats, from 'mandyrs, from any felines or aggressions; it was always there and a natural instinct was possessed by all fire lizards - right? She'd always gone between, thought nothing of it, after all...but then, the 'mandyr's aggression had sent Lamb all the way to the ceiling in fright - as if Zesa would let the irritating little worm hurt her! - perhaps she was merely frightened. She gave a soft croon as she hovered, her gaze landing on the upper window, and then she cocked her head at it with a chirrup, spiraling upwards and then winging for the window. Her daughter would, surely, understand? It was only a short glide to the given spot on the river, after all, and if Lamb got tired, they could jump between from the river; perhaps that would make her feel better.
Perching momentarily on the windowsill, teetering as she blinked to let her eyes adjust to the brilliance of outside, Zesa glanced back encouragingly at Lamb before she leapt into flight, instinctively seeking a cool wind to follow as it looped playfully around and in the same direction as the river flowed. The river itself snaked, silver and gleaming, below her as the queen drew level to it and skimmed across the surface, her wingtips sending up a glittering spurt of water every time her wings were pushed down, forelegs uncurling from their customary position, pressed against her stomach, to draw one golden claw across the water and send up a cool spray of water as she glanced back at Lamb, her forward speed matching that of the stream. She veered on one wing, the appendage dipping into the water and checking her speed, to veer around a rock in the water, using the next rock to launch herself into the air, beating her wings to regain altitude and head in the direction of the image Vega had provided.
...which left Stupid alone, cautiously triumphant, and with a stuck shiny. The brown 'mandyr puzzled at it for some time after the fire lizards had departed, every movement drawing a hiss from the 'mandyr if he thought that there was any chance that the idiots would return and try to reclaim his prize. No? They weren't coming? He had won, yes. He'd - ah, 'found' the necklace and it was his now, and - someone opened the door and Stupid took his chance, grabbing the necklace and sliding through the crack just as the door closed, into the hallway, slightly damp, triumphant, and with his shiny free. Ah, now...who to give this to? Mulling over his choices, the brown 'mandyr skittered across the ground....
