He was calm. He was so, so calm.
Tekivisk looked almost frightened as she peered at Vix, the green fluttering her wings in mute apology, unwilling to draw his attention to her in such…stressful…situations. Rook was equally and uncharacteristically silent—quite possibly mute in rage at being ignored despite his best attempts at drawing attention, and possibly also because he was just as shell-shocked as everyone else in the room. For his part, Vix was less shocked and more calm, looking down at the mess of egg shell and weird greeny-bronze firelizard all over his pillow, breathing very steadily as the ungainly hatchling attempted to straighten itself into some semblance of dignity, squeaking and chirruping happily up at Vix, the rainbow flush to its eyes very clearly indicative of just what had happened.
“What. The. Fuck. Tekivisk.”
Oh, he didn’t sound very happy. Tekivisk ducked her head in chagrin, attempting to slide inconspicuously backwards. It was just that she’d seen the egg all alone and she couldn’t just leave it there, what if some tunnelsnake got ahold of it! She hadn’t meant for him to Impress though. She hadn’t. She’d expected they could give the egg away or something and then it would be all okay, and someone would be happy with a brand new pet and it wouldn’t…it wouldn’t have been like this. The green murmured an apologetic croon, practically on her belly by now, immensely grateful that Vix did not seem capable of looking away from the firelizard in order to glare at her.
NOOOOOOooooooooo, Rook wailed abruptly, and bolted from the room, leaving a deafening silence in his absence, during which the fairly confused and very hungry, he told Vix, and very lonely bronze firelizard flapped his wings, the rustle of sticky membrane and displaced air loud as Vix opened his mouth in astonished disapproval, and then slammed it closed again. He snarled in weak frustration as Tekivisk cautiously inched up to the bed, nosing at Vix’s side so she could peer up at the firelizard as it flopped clumsily towards his brand new Bonded, the green offering a reassuring, quiet chirp. At least he was cute…?
Vix made a strangled sound, and then snatched up the firelizard, who squawked in alarm as Vix stomped from the room, a thundercloud full of his very own lightning and rain right above his head. Tekivisk followed him after a moment of stricken alarm, caught up to him just as he made it to Darmori’s door and pounded on it, yelling, “DARMORI THERE IS A THING THAT NEEDS FOOD OUT HERE GET IT AWAY FROM ME.”
He was oh so calm. He was the epitome of calmness. Calmity. Calamity. Crap.

Darmosk was doing something odd. Not that this was unusual. The bronze did odd things all the time. What was he up to this time you ask? Napping. Yes the large male was for once actually napping. This only happened every once in a great while and so Darmori was taking advantage of it. By napping himself of course. Harmony was tucked up under his chin also blissfully in the word of dreams. Which was a good thing because she had been looking a little brighter as of yesterday. The handler didn’t want to even think about what that could mean. The gold could be quite the nasty thing when she was proddy and although Imp was here now. Well….a proddy Mony was just not a good thing. Actually he might have been able to sleep through the pounding. For awhile at any rate. It was the words that woke him.
“DARMORI THERE IS A THING THAT NEEDS FOOD OUT HERE GET IT AWAY FROM ME.”
The yell caused him to start awake, sitting up immediately and earning a shriek of displeasure as Harmony was sent toppling onto the bed. Whoops. Reaching to help her right herself Darmori gave her a couple very sleepy apologies following them with rubs to her ridges. The mandyr accepted this a bit grudgingly, still rather irritated as the pounding had not ceased. Shut up! Came the mental command, the irritation behind the words clear, as Harmony repositioned herself to comfortably sprawl on the bed. Mori coming. No need be so loud. Came the slightly calmer response. Make no mistake the gold was quite put out at the moment. She had been sleeping. As Darmori made his way to the door to open it the large mandyr tried to get a glimpse of the offender. Which wasn’t the easiest from where she was laying. Thus after a moment she gave up. They could come in so she could properly glare.
Darmori opened the door with a rather sleepy smile plastered on his face. Yawning and covering it with his hand he blinked at Vix and his firelizard captive. “Oh. Hi Vix. What where you saying about food?” Glancing down at the little greenish firelizard his eyes widened. Pointing at it he blinked again. “Is that yours?” Oh dear….

Having Harmony talk to him at any other time would’ve been cause for an affectionate, if melodramatic, eye roll—Vix still claimed on a fairly regular basis that he did not forgive her for Rook. Or for spoiling Rook. Or for loving Rook. (Because that was his job, thanks a lot.) Now all it elicited was a near-hiss, Vix positively glaring down at the greeny-bronze worm crooning pleasantly around his fingers, doing its wormy, wiggly best to wrap its body around his wrist. Its sticky tail trailed against the underside of his wrist as Tekivisk whined her quiet, embarrassed apology to Harmony through the door. And actually to anybody else within hearing distance, because VixHers was not being very quiet, although he had stopped rapping on Darmori’s door, and she was so very sorry if any of them had been disturbed because of him. So sorry.
The door opening and Darmori’s sleep-befuddled, generally content appearance actually made Vix pause a minute, an instant of chagrin dropping his eyes to the floor, because crap. He hadn’t meant to wake Darmori up. He’d just kind of figured that Darmori was always awake; therefore, Darmori could not be asleep in his Time of Need. Fortunately, Darmori had never seemed as inclined towards grumpiness as Vix was, and there was no verbal reaming. “Food,” he echoed blankly, momentarily stunned by Darmori’s composure in the face of such stress. Or maybe he was still mentally asleep. Also a possibility. Whatever. Then he looked down at the thing that had managed to curl all the way around his wrist in the meantime, and made a small noise halfway between a snarl and a sob.
Darmori’s second question reminded him that oh yeah, he was angry. What had happened to that? (Tekivisk had happened to it, was what; the green was not above stealthily attempting to calm Vix while he was otherwise distracted. She didn’t want him to make Darmori think he was insane. That would be bad. And possibly intrude on her playdates with Darmosk.) Vix’s jaw set, determined to be appropriately horrified at the intrusion upon his mind, and he actually shook his wrist in an attempt to get the bronze off of him. It clung. It actually wrapped its body around his hand and nuzzled his fingers, chirruping happily. “No,” Vix said mutinously, trying not to look completely like a sulking child, “It is most certainly not mine.”
Except for the little detail that it kind of was, Tekivisk added apologetically to Darmori, easing past Vix to lick Darmori’s hand. Oops?
“It wants food,” Vix continued, still busy ignoring Tekivisk frantically. “Do you have food?” Then, because it came out on autopilot, “Do you want it?” It was tempting to just try to scrape the firelizard off of his hand onto the door or something and flee and hide under a pile of blankets because Rook was abusive and overly-energetic enough for three firelizards and he did not want a tumor permanently attached to his shoulder, wrist, neck, or wherever else firelizards typically clung. He made a small noise, slumped disconsolately as Tekivisk nosed against his ankle, indulgently affectionate. “This is not really my life.”

Darmori’s gaze focused on the bronze firelizard for a few moments and then his eyes returned to Vix and he gave a bright smile. “Yep food. I think you said something about food?” The bronzehandler seemed completely unperturbed by current events. Despite the rather sudden awakening his good cheer persisted. He didn’t really understand exactly what his friend needed but he was willing to help if he could. The weird sound his fellow handler made had Darmori’s smile faltering just a bit. Oh dear. Why was Vix so upset? His eyes again went to the firelizard bracelet and piece by piece it started to slowly come together. Was the firelizard upsetting him? If so why? It seemed really rather friendly. (Darmori liked firelizards. Not that he would ever admit that around Harmony)
Blinking at Vix in a slightly bewildered manner Darmori looked from the bronze back to his friend. “You sure it isn’t yours? He seems like he’s really attached to you. Did someone sic him on you or something?” He questioned watching as the green handler actually tried to shake the creature off, only to get licked and nuzzled for his trouble. As Tekivisk spoke up the bronzehandler blinked and then smiled as she licked his hand. Returning her gesture of affection, with a quick but brisk rub to the green’s head, he raised his other hand to rub the back of his own neck. So then the bronze was Vix’s and he was just obviously still surprised that it was? Okay. Well then that made a little more sense.
With a grin he gave a nod. “Well he just hatched of course he’s hungry.” The teen responded brightly. “I’m sure I have something around here.” Turning to look back into the room Darmori almost balked. There was a very large golden problem in the way of sharing food though. Oh dear. Swallowing he turned back to Vix blinking in slight bewilderment at the other handler’s offer. “Oh…I couldn’t possibly. He seems attached to you already and well.” His voice dropped to a whisper. “Harmony hates firelizards. She’d eat one if she could I think. She’s outright attacked them before.” Giving a glance back into the room he bit his lip.
“She’s glowy too. So I think I better not.” Smiling he clapped his friend on the shoulder. “Hey cheer up. We’ll get him fed and then it will all look better. But maybe you should wait in the hallway?” As the bronzehandler slipped back into his weyr, to fetch his left over meat rolls, he shot over his shoulder. “Well gee Vix. I don’t know who else’s life it could be?” His friend said the weirdest things sometimes.
Harmony watched Darmori with slight suspicion but didn’t voice anything quite yet. With a disgruntled noise she leapt into the air and winged to the top of the bedpost. Sitting upon it the large gold looked down upon her kingdom. There was some type of disturbance. She just wasn’t sure what it was yet. Eyes focused on the half closed door she narrowed them, completely disregarding the loudly snoring bronze sleeping on the floor at the foot of the bed.
