T’rid was sitting, cross-legged, Corinth’s muzzle planted in his lap, the bronze dragon’s tail flicking lazily, first one way, and then the other, dipped into the river that gurgled and tugged gently on it; the dragon’s entire body was sprawled on the grass, wings gently stirring in the wind. The bronzerider was talking, though he was leaning back against a tree, Conspiracy curled up in a tight ball next to him, dozing, head back against the rough bark. His voice was a low drawl; clearly T’rid wasn’t paying much attention to what he was saying, and by the slow, content whirling of Corinth’s eyes, it was clear the bronze’s priority wasn’t listening to His, either – actually, Corinth was nuzzling the bronzerider’s hand, encouraging the rubbing of his muzzle and eye ridges; his eyes were half-closed in his pleasure and his tongue flicked out every once in a while to lick T’rid’s palm. His entire body was glossy, well-oiled and positively glowing; T’rid was seated between the dragon’s forelegs, which sprawled on either side of him.
“ – believe it’s nearly December? ‘s warm…mm, Cor, I’m petting, I am…” It would be colder up North, I expect. You’re not petting enough. To the right – more – now up – there. Scratch please. I’m itchy. “Just oiled you,” T’rid protested lazily, after scratching obediently and then smoothing the soft hide. It wasn’t a bad itch. It was just…tickly. More seriously, though? Have you convinced Stupid yet? It will be…soon. Very soon. The bronzerider’s hand stilled, his head coming up, eyes opening to meet Corinth’s. Wetting his lips, T’rid tilted his head thoughtfully, and then shrugged. “Convinced him enough that he’ll hesitate, I think,” he allowed slowly, “and I can grab him if that’s necessary – it’ll be okay.”
Was it obvious that Corinth was agitated with Raylin? T’rid thought so – the bronze dragon had never been affectionate of the Weyrlingrider; it was Ebolath that Corinth liked – but by proxy, that meant he had to be relatively careful not to offend Raylin. But now? The rules had been broken, and it hadn’t been by His or by him – and if making sure His wasn’t hurt meant alienating Ebolath, Corinth would do it. The dragon rumbled quietly, nuzzling T’rid in the chest again – and then, as he sensed the bronzerider brooding again, the dragon’s entire body twisted, his teeth closing gently on the fabric of the shirt that T’rid wore – and he literally flung the Rider into the air, back over his shoulder; both wings flattened, fanning out as not to get in the way; T’rid had time for a single shriek before he hit the water – and surfaced spluttering, choking, laughing as he swiped wet hair out of his eyes, blinking and shaking his head at Corinth indulgently as the bronze preened his triumph.
The bronzerider shook his head ferociously, his hair slinging droplets around as he stood waist-deep in the river before he pushed both hands through his hair, slicking it back and drawing his forearm across his face to semi-dry it – but abruptly, Corinth was no longer interested in their game; the dragon’s attention was focused intently away from His, and the slender bronze rose to his feet, deliberately moving closer to the riverbank before he laid down again, his position much akin to that of a Terran Sphinx; his head lowered, neck arched warily; T’rid watched Corinth as intently as he was focused on whatever else it was – the bronzerider dropped his hands from his hair to his sides, eyes narrowing slightly – and then he completely froze at the bronze’s announcement.
Ebolath’s comes.

Raylin took another step forward and literally froze when she heard T’rid shriek. I can’t do this. I can’t. Ebolath Corinth will eat me. He will. Then I will protect you. I am above remember? If Corinth seeks to harm you he must fight me first. Besides you are being silly again. T’rid deserves an explanation Raymineonlylove. I know, I know... I just... You can do it and you will. One step at a time. You wanted him to listen and he will if I have to keep you all there myself. Which I will if I have to. I am coming down now. Angling her wings into a dive the green cut through the air and hit the water with barely a splash before surfacing behind and too the left of T’rid. Hello. She greeted evenly and crooned uncertainty to Corinth as she approached. I do hope you do not mind sharing the river? Flicking an unsure glace at the bronze, Ebolath again turned to the rider. The urge to nuzzle T’rid was strong, but she refrained instead swinging her head around to view the bronze on the bank.
Raylin stepped around a tree as Ebolath popped up from the water. Nervously straightening her shirt, the weyrling shot a terrified glance in Corinth’s direction. She had to address him first. The girl’s voice started at a stammer and then grew stronger at Ebolath‘s reassurance. “Corinth. I know you don’t like me. You have every right to absolutely hate me. I promise I will try not to hurt yours. I never wanted to hurt him in the first place. I don’t feel right making excuses to you. I screwed up. I know that. Please just let me say my piece before you bite my head off?” Turning from the small bronze Raylin took one step closer to T’rid, her heart hammering wildly. Ebolath? I’m here, I’m watching. Go ahead.
The green rider took one deep breath and folded her hands. “T’rid? I know I’m probably the last person you ever wanted to see again. But please would you give me the chance to explain? I owe you and explanation. I owe you an apology and shard it you are really hard to get alone. After I’m done you can rage at me all you want, call me a bitch, hit me, whatever but please, please allow me this one chance to say what I have to say. Will you hear me out?” Raylin’s voice was even without the tremor it had contained when she spoke to Corinth. T’rid was easier to talk to. Possibly because she knew T’rid wouldn’t physically hurt her where as she had no idea whether or not Corinth would. Her eyes met the bronze rider’s, the pleading expression in them hard to miss. It was his decision and only his. She was not going to force him to listen.
Beside T’rid, Ebolath sat in the water and focused her jewel faceted eyes on Corinth. They where an even green color but speckled with yellow, which was a emotional blip from hers. Ever since that day at the gather Ebolath had absolutely refused to let hers block her and true to Ciceroth’s word it had helped. Very much so. Hers was far from completely fine but she was beginning to make sense again. That was a good sign. Today’s visit was an exercise in trying to fix a broken friendship. For Raylin’s sake Ebolath was not above forcing T’rid to listen if she had to. The green was positive that would not sit well with Corinth however, and she had yet to decide what she would do if push came to shove. To say the atmosphere was tense would be an understatement at least from the green pair’s point of view.

The change was very abrupt; gone was the reckless cheerfulness of play; the bronzerider’s eyes turned cold, and he let his hair drape over his face, bowing his head slightly and interlacing his fingers behind his back. He nearly got out of the river there and then – being found to his waist in water, drenched, was not the ideal way to meet someone that he’d been deliberately avoiding for the past few sevendays – but there was no time before Ebolath hit the water behind him, and the bronzerider turned slowly to stare at the green dragon, tilting his head to one side curiously; what was she doing there? Raylin had made it very, very clear that she didn’t want to see him again, and T’rid was loathe to admit that it hurt; he didn’t want to hurt and it was instinct to stay away from the source of the hurt. Corinth appraised Ebolath evenly for a moment before he crooned quietly, gaze flickering towards T’rid first. I do not own the River, Ebolath, he pointed out mildly, flicking his tail slightly. You are welcome to it. Did that mean he and T’rid were going to stay very long? Probably not.
The bronze’s head lowered slightly as Raylin approached; his expression was unreadable, his eyes blank, and one wing curved over his face, the membrane brushing over his muzzle. Corinth was not an unreasonable creature; it could almost definitely be said that opposites attracted, for T’rid had never had a day go by in which he had not disagreed on some count with the bronze – but he also preferred not to talk to others, and even if he would allow Raylin near his precious Bonded again, that hardly meant she was elevated directly to the bronze’s good books again. Corinth rumbled, glance flicking to Ebolath; T’rid was still standing as if frozen, watching the greenrider intently; his hair was clinging to his face and neck, his gaze cold, and for a moment, the bronze considered refusing – but, though his tail flicked agitatedly, he bespoke the green. Please inform Yours that I have no intention of biting her head off, or hurting her physically in any way.
T’rid bowed his head, eyes still fixed on Raylin, both hands brushing over the front of his shirt, the bronzerider’s gaze flicking from Raylin to Ebolath, and then fixating on the former as she began to speak. Last person he wanted to see? No. Not really. To be completely honest? He was upset with her – he had too much pride to seek her out – but that didn’t mean he hated her. A smile that was not friendly but rather cool, mechanical, flickered across the bronzerider’s face. Hard to get alone, was he? – good; that had been his intention. Whether it had been seeking out his Wingsecond, locking his weyr door and explicitly asking a Drudge to tell people he was not there, or turning towards people he couldn’t care less about – he’d evaded contact. He shrugged one shoulder at her question, one hand coming up to swipe his hair out of his eyes again. A very sardonic, cold, hurt part of him wanted to reject the offer – say he didn’t want to hear it, because apparently he didn’t care anyway – but he bit his tongue for a moment, staring at Raylin.
The moment was very long. His hazel eyes flickered, and he shrugged again as Conspiracy, uncurling from the tree, keeled quietly, inaudibly, one wing extending to flap in vigorous protest to Raylin’s proximity. “There’s hardly anywhere for me to run to,” T’rid pointed out very quietly after a moment. “You’d better go on, then.” Corinth shifted on the bank, though whether or not the bronze meant anything was impossible to be seen; his tail twitched minutely, and after a pause, the bronze rumbled at His. Don’t let her hurt you. I don’t want you hurt. I won’t. I won’t…

T’rid’s change in demeanor was not lost on Raylin and she almost flinched in response. Was he /that/ upset with her? Obviously so. A glance was flickered towards Corinth as Ebolath relayed the message tensely. The green’s body was taunt with expectation and part of her wanted to rescue hers immediately. Corinth was closer than was comfortable and although Ebolath trusted him, he was obviously agitated as was Conspiracy. Their emotions would affect T’rid just as her tenseness would affect her own bonded. The young green snorted and forced herself to relax muscle by muscle. I did not presume to say you did own it Corinth. She returned as evenly as he had. Obviously he was agitated with her as well, and although it hurt she ignored it. Go on mine. He is allowing you to speak. Do so but be cautious as to what you say.
Raylin wrung her hangs and sighed. One chance. That was all she was getting. Might as well make it count. Here goes nothing. “The last thing I wanted to do was make you feel trapped T‘rid. I obviously hurt you that evening. I had no right to do that. I could stammer on and make excuses all day. But their really is no point. The truth is… I was scared. Absolutely petrified. I had never in my life cared for someone in the way I care for you before. I was afraid that you would reject me. Afraid that I wasn’t good enough for you and so when you acted so unfeeling and cold towards me I automatically let myself believe the worst. I was angry at myself for allowing you to get so damn important to me. Everyone I care about leaves me eventually. I was scared you would to. I felt betrayed. I don’t ever know what to say to you T’rid. I’m afraid if I say what’s on my mind it will sound dumb.”
Trailing off she bit her lip. “I know I said you didn’t care, that you cared only for yourself. I really didn’t mean any of it. I got angry and upset. I let my mouth run without thinking and afterwards I felt horrible. I still do. I don’t expect anything from you. At all, but…thank you for giving me the chance to explain. I don‘t even probably deserve that much.” Blinking against the unexpected tears that had started to form, Raylin reached for Ebolath’s mind and allowed the green to caress her lovingly.
I am proud of you minelove. Do you feel better? Yes but…shard it Ebolath what now? Ebolath crooned softly and allowed the remainder of the yellowish color to exit her gaze. We wait for a reaction. If none comes we leave. I know it will pain you to lose him Raymine, but sometimes there is no helping certain things. Dipping her head she softly touched her muzzle to the top of T’rid’s head. Thank you for letting mine have her say. I have missed you all. I am sorry for the trust that has broken between us. The young green moved past T’rid then, and climbed the bank to stand behind her bonded.
The look Ebolath gave Corinth was carefully guarded. He had once been a friend and she missed him but now was not time for her to mourn. She would do so later, on her own time. Ebolath could not help a final gaze around the area for Stupid. She missed his cheerful presence the most. The last time she had seen him he had been so upset? Was he over Calistoth’s rejection yet? Raylin in turn watched T’rid carefully, keeping one hand on Ebolath’s neck for reassurance. Well the dragon was in his weyr now so to speak.

Contrary to the tension in the greenpair, Corinth outwardly looked to be relaxed; his head lowered, neck arching to rest his chin on the ground, leaving his eyes at roughly head level; the whirling multi-faceted gaze was fixed on Raylin. Blues, a hint of a color that could be best described as gold – it was obvious to T’rid that the bronze wasn’t entirely happy with this, though Corinth was nothing if not reasonable; he’d give them a chance. His fondness for Ebolath had not diminished – it wasn’t Ebolath who had upset him, and he didn’t blame Ebolath, but he wasn’t stupid: The green would protest the fact that he was no longer tolerant of Hers – it wouldn’t be a friendship anymore; it’d be strained, taut…and that wasn’t something that Corinth wanted. The bronze didn’t answer her comment, his tail flicking slightly; he didn’t want to make small talk – His still hadn’t moved, was still watching Raylin through hooded eyes. It did make the bronze want to curl up and hide, though; did they really think that he’d hurt Raylin? Corinth was adamantly not a violent dragon; very rarely did his emotions overrule common sense.
T’rid lifted his head slightly when Raylin began to speak in earnest; his head tilted curiously to one side, a thoughtless habit. So she’d noticed that she’d hurt him: Good. T’rid wasn’t one to befriend everyone who happened to drift by; nor did he express his emotions unless it was anger. Sarcasm was more than a talent – it was a shield. Given the circumstances, he’d thought it was very obvious that he was fond of Raylin: How many people would he honestly risk his life for, given a choice? The bronzerider barely managed to repress flinching upon her comment. The way she cared for him? T’rid’s gaze flicked up to Raylin’s face for a moment, and he bit his tongue to keep from commenting – cold and unfeeling; was that after the Flight? What was he supposed to have done – ? Acting sane – cool – was his first reaction, because he’d expected Raylin to…to freak.
As she finished, the bronzerider bowed his head again, grinding his teeth together; what was he supposed to say – ? He didn’t forgive people as easily as that. He just didn’t; he held grudges and he remembered – he remembered even if he didn’t deliberately mean to. And then there was that one line: I don’t ever know what to say to you. Given that was true – how could she possibly expect anything? If she didn’t say anything – if she didn’t trust him not to make fun of her opinion – then there was nothing, but – she was being so contradictory. He was important to her, but she wasn’t comfortable enough to say what was on her mind – ? It was ridiculous and he didn’t know, and he was automatically leaning towards the easier path: That he was done. His glance flickered towards Corinth and Conspiracy; the bronze dragon’s eyes were unreadable, while the firelizard had stilled, keeling anxiously; what was going on – ?
Ebolath’s touch made the bronzerider flinch, more out of surprise than protest to the touch; that she mentally contacted him was…surprising; he didn’t expect it, and didn’t really want it; it made him feel bad…“What did you expect?” The words were quiet, his gaze focused on Raylin. “What am I supposed to do, now? Pretend it never happened?” The question was genuine; she said she didn’t expect anything, but that couldn’t possibly be true: She wouldn’t have come if she didn’t expect anything. Corinth was silent in his mind – supporting, encouraging, loving, but silent; the bronze offered nothing – no advice or wry comment; the dragon was not quite sure how to react. His was His, and Corinth was downright possessive when it came down to emotional pain.

All this tenseness made Ebolath want to flee. Sweet by nature, any pain made her want to fix the problem. But she couldn’t. She wanted to, but the green had no idea where to begin. Finally she sighed deeply and turned to Corinth. I know you are angry with mine Corinth. You have every right to be. I trust you will not physically hurt her unless she attacks yours. Which I am positive she will never do. Tell me if you want me to pull mine away and I will do so. Bowing her head she turned back to gently push hers forward.
Raylin looked up as T’rid spoke. Obviously this was going to be strained, she expected that. “No. I don’t expect you to pretend it never happened. I hurt you T’rid. I know that. I never wanted to. I still don’t want to hurt you. I certainly didn’t mean to. I really don’t expect anything from you. Really I don’t. It would be selfish of me to.” Trailing off she stepped forward at Ebolath’s insistence, closer to the water, closer to him. “I wanted to apologize. I needed to apologize otherwise I might never forgive myself for hurting you. I like you T’rid, really I do. More than anything. Through my own selfish ways I hurt you and it wasn’t right.” Bowing her head the weyrling allowed a few tears to escape but she just as quickly brushed them away. “It isn’t easy for me to trust. My whole life I’ve kept to myself. Even after I impressed Ebolath. I recently was forced to deal with that fact. I came to realize I can’t just trust myself. I have to let others in. I want to. I don’t want to be alone anymore…it hurts.”
Clenching her hands into fists Raylin froze until Ebolath gently nudged her forward. “I truly don’t want to lose you. I don’t. You saved my life T’rid. I will be forever grateful for that. I don’t know if I could ever make it up to you. But right now I am going to say something a bit selfish. Please don’t push me away because of my stupidity. I’m sorry really I am. I know I’ve said that a lot to you but I’ve always meant it. The pain I caused wasn‘t intentional, don’t you realize I would never want you to hurt? I’m not good at this. I know that. But I need to try. Please let me try to make it up to you. Give me one more chance.” Taking a deep breath she outstretched her hand towards him. No giving up. She was through running. Dragon riders didn’t run right? Well look Ka’rys she wasn’t running.
Ebolath watched with an unreadable expression. A soft rumbled escaped her and she turned her head towards the sky as a blue fire lizard descended to scold hers. Flaring his wings Arrogance hissed. How dare she try to lock him up! He would show her! He would. And what did she think she was doing? He folded his wings into a dive and landed on Raylin’s head. Shrieking in anger he grabbed a mouthful of her hair and tugged hard. How dare she! Wincing Raylin kept her hand outstretched, although she longed to rip the little monster from her head and fling him. “Meet Arrogance. Please ignore him. The more attention you give him the more he acts out.”

Corinth’s attention was focused primarily upon T’ridHis and Raylin; the bronze’s eyes were whirling rapidly; his nostrils flared, tongue flicking out in an almost reptilian manner. Ebolath’s words, contrary to making him jump, made the bronze freeze – Corinth’s version of freezing was not tensing, but rather simply ceasing motion; for a moment, he was utterly motionless; his tail twitched and he rumbled low in his chest, the sound vaguely reminiscent of thunder. I would not hurt Yours, Ebolath, unless I had no other choice. He would have thought, too, that the green would know that; it stung that she thought he would attack without provocation – and anyway, it wasn’t like it would be any good; it’d only upset His in any case. Have faith, Ebolath. Do you really think I would want to hurt Yours? I /don’t/, if only because she’s Yours. He was very fond of Ebolath, was the bronze; his favorite daughter, the green was – not that he had many, since two of the greens’ deaths.
T’rid was very much aware of what Ebolath was saying; the bronze dragon’s mental link with him was, at the moment, open – he could close Corinth out, but lately, it had been too much effort and they’d become…ridiculously close, considering the number of arguments they hosted on a daily basis. He mentally settled closer to Corinth, almost seeking protection, even as Raylin spoke again. She never wanted to say those things? T’rid wasn’t stupid, nor yet oblivious; that he was arrogant, cold, sarcastic, and very unapproachable was deliberate – had he come across as such to Raylin? Probably at some point; he very often did. Selfish – letting people in – what? She wanted to let people in now? His head tilted at an angle, undeniably curious; his fingers brushed over his abdomen absently. What? He only very rarely “let people in”; Raylin was one of those people – and how well had that worked out?
Apologize. She was apologizing. It seemed she did that a lot; of all the times Raylin had, this was the only one that T’rid actually deemed an apology necessary – and he didn’t know, still. His fingers twitched thoughtlessly; the bronzerider stared at the greenrider for another moment – before she was dive-bombed by a blue firelizard who began to shriek – and T’rid’s gaze slid to the firelizard, a glint that was very much amusement flickering in his gaze. Annoying, yes; as a general rule, he didn’t like firelizards. He made an exception for Conspiracy, because ‘spiracy was his and the brown adored him, but…loud firelizards were not typically ones that T’rid was tolerant of in the least. It did amuse him that Raylin had Impressed the blue, though; sucked to be her, didn’t it – ? His nose crinkled, and the bronzerider finally moved; the water licked around his waist, gradually lowering until, with a rather undignified scramble, he made it to the bank.
For the moment, he ignored Raylin entirely; his gaze was focused on the blue she’d introduced as Arrogance, and one eyebrow rose at the firelizard before, deliberately going against her advice, he inclined his head with mock politeness towards the blue. “Unh-huh, I completely agree; she was mean to you, she was – I think you should go find Stupid and bring him here; she hates him – it can be her punishment for being so mean. I bet he’s in my weyr – you’d get your revenge on Raylin…uh, doing whatever she did. I’d send Conspiracy for you, but he’s crippled.” He didn’t usually talk to firelizards, except for his own Conspiracy, but he’d make an exception if it got the blue away – he didn’t know if it’d even work; just how intelligent was the blue…?

Arrogance whirled on the bronzer with a hiss. Was he daring to speak to him? Couldn’t he see he was busy? Very, very, busy yes. His pet needed to be punished. She had tried to lock him up. Of all the things she had tried, this was unforgivable you see. The blue squawked and flared his wings before digging his talons into hispets hair. Suddenly the blue stopped and flicked his tail. Why would he go get this Stupid? He could punish her himself, he could. Raylin dropped her hand and sighed. “Please don’t encourage him.” The weyrling almost pleaded.
Arrogance shrieked in protest. Silence pet! Dropping to Raylin’s shoulder he bit her ear and tugged. Silence! Ebolath rumbled a short warning and Arrogance spared her a glance before releasing the girl’s ear and hissing at Ebolath. Bad green! Bad! Sizing up T’rid he snorted. This is what his bonded was so upset about? Silly. Tilting his head, he bit her hard enough to draw blood and launched from her shoulder before she could retaliate. Fluting, Arrogance perched on a nearby branch and preened. Raylin had a dead tunnel snake in her bed she did. He would look forward to her scream. “I should just stop feeding him. Except I tried that already. It doesn’t work.” Scowling at her pet Raylin turned back to the soaked bronzer. Now what? What else could she say?
Ebolath turned to Corinth and crooned, the sound low. I know you wouldn’t Corinth. It’s just I miss you all. This tenseness is bothersome. I want this to go well but I don’t want either of ours hurt. Taking a step towards the bronze she paused. The green wanted to comfort him. She did. Still the young dragon held back, if only because things where tense. She didn’t want to do something to upset the fragile balance. She means it Corinth. Raymine is sorry. Extremely so. You know she can’t lie to me. Just as yours can’t lie to you.
Raylin flicked a glance toward Ebolath and then turned her attention back to T’rid. Staring up at him the weyrling blinked back fresh tears. She cried often, but lately it was getting ridiculous. To much emotional bouncing. Didn’t he have anything to say? Discussions only worked when two people participated. She couldn’t try and fix anything when she didn’t know what else was bothering him.

Arrogance’s hissing at T’rid was received with a raised eyebrow – but Conspiracy did not take it so lightly; the brown firelizard hissed loudly in response, rolling to his feet and running towards the pair; both wings flared – one of them fully extending and the other only half-extending awkwardly. He was older and better than the mean blue, and he wouldn’t stand for His to be hissed at in that way; couldn’t he see he was trying to make a polite suggestion? Bad – bad – Conspiracy skidded to a stop directly on top one of the bronzerider’s feet; he sat up on his hind legs, one wing splayed back against T’rid’s leg for balance, and hissed again in defiance. T’rid tilted his head up and to one side at Raylin’s comment, and then shrugged, stooping down to pick up Conspiracy absently; the brown squirmed in his hands until he’d managed to focus on Arrogance; the blue’s departure had Conspiracy trilling loudly, triumphantly, after him, utterly convinced that it was because of him; mean blue deserved what he got; someday someone would whap him out of the air with a rolled-up scroll and then where would he be?
Crinkling his nose slightly, the bronzerider stroked Conspiracy’s wings down absently with one hand, and then shrugged dismissively at Arrogance. The blue was annoying, to be sure – he hadn’t liked Vega in particular, but at least he wasn’t – annoying. And…Mir had liked Vega. His own blue’s loss made his stomach drop; the bronzerider swallowed, gaze flicking up to meet Raylin’s gaze as she voiced her plan. Stop feeding the firelizard? They weren’t stupid – Conspiracy could even get his own food, crippled and all – of course it wouldn’t work. He was tempted to point that out, but T’rid bit his tongue, and then very nearly took a step back away from Raylin again; he was tempted to – to turn away from her just to see her reaction – but that there were fresh tears in her eyes stopped him.
He’d thought it was clear enough that he’d decided to forgive her; if T’rid hadn’t, he would have just turned and swam to the other side of the River – or followed its path downwards – he wouldn’t have gotten out. Sometimes silence was more effective than any sarcastic statement, after all. But obviously she was still worried. His right hand rose after a moment of hesitation – T’rid didn’t want to hurt; self-preservation demanded that he close out everyone else; isolate himself; he’d never had a problem with it before – and forefinger and thumb cupped her chin as Conspiracy clung to the front of his shirt, looking back at Raylin curiously. The bronzerider’s gesture was more to make sure she was looking at him – he was serious about this – than affection, but his voice was soft, each word emphatic.
“One. More. Chance.”
It might have been the ideal time for a kiss, but T’rid didn’t want to. Not then. The decision had been…very on-the-moment; he wasn’t even quite sure if he approved of it yet. His hand dropped, and the bronzerider stepped back, shaking his head slightly and running his hand through the mess again as he raised his head towards Corinth, who had been watching in silence; his tail twitched minutely before he finally responded to Ebolath; there was no physical affection. He would have very much liked to nuzzle the green then, but something had been broken. A splint was in place, perhaps – but it had not healed. Not entirely, and it might never. We trust you, Ebolath, he commented. Trust…is not easily mended, the bronze added soberly, eyes whirling rapidly as he glanced towards Arrogance in slight amusement; he’d have to ask about the little blue – but not now.
T’rid’s glance fell back on Raylin again, and, with more sympathy, a thawing of the coldness, he moved back to the greenrider, hand moving Conspiracy up to his shoulder before he touched her cheek with the tip of his forefinger. “Are you crying…? Why’re you crying…?”

Arrogance was not put off by Conspiracy. Not at all. In fact he was amused. The crippled brown was hardly a threat. He couldn’t even fly. Chattering in amusement, the blue wrapped his tail around his branch and watched the two humans with a disinterested gaze. The had better things to do. Perhaps he should go steal things from the bathing rooms? But then he couldn’t watch his. Still stealing clothes, well, that always got a reaction. Maybe later. Giving a flute Arrogance swooped down to circle his big green. Landing on Ebolath he crooned affectionately and rubbed once against her nearest ridge. Such a big shiny bronze that one was. Did she know him? Ebolath snorted and pressed gently against Arrogance’s mind. Yes I do. Please little cousin leave ours be for now. The blue flipped his wings open. He was done with her for now. He was. Unless she angered him again. Did she see his newest sock? Saeo had chased him for it she had. But she had tripped and he had gotten away. Ebolath huffed in amusement.
Raylin watched Arrogance with a blank expression on her face. What was she going to do about him? Suddenly her eyes widened and she allowed T’rid to turn her to face him. His words made her heart beat faster and the tears she’d been holding back started to roll down her face. “One. More. Chance.” Honestly? She was ecstatic. Things where far from perfect but, she was going to take this chance and run with it. No more screwing up. Raylin was determined to make it up to him. To win his trust back. No matter what it took. As T’rid dropped his hand to run it through his hair, she dropped her head and hastily wiped at her eyes. No more tears for one... If she could get them to stop.
Ebolath’s attention was taken from Arrogance back to the Corinth, as the bronze spoke. A soft rumble escaped her throat. I understand. Bowing her head the green swung it around to glance out over the water. Maybe one day everything would be nice again. Until then. Well...she would remain patient. She was good at that she was. Patience was obviously her strong suit. Moving away from the bronze Ebolath flopped down in the grass, causing Arrogance to take wing again. The blue didn’t scold for once, instead he took to chasing a small darter. Watching him for a moment, the green twitched her tail tip, deep in thought. Things would have to be played carefully it seemed.
Again a slight touch. Raylin raised her head again to look at T’rid. His question surprised her, but she answered without a second thought. If the bronze rider was ever going to trust her again she had to remain open. “I was afraid you’d go and not accept my apology. I didn’t want you to go.” She said softly. Wiping the remainder of the moisture from her eyes. “I couldn’t bare it if you left forever.” The weyrling flung her arms around him then. “Thank you for giving me another chance. I promise you won’t regret it.” Tightening her grip slightly Raylin pulled back and softly smiled at him. “I’ve been a wreck lately. I probably look half dead. Saeo certainly thinks so anyway.”

Conspiracy flapped both wings as hard as he could – not very hard, admittedly – and positively writhed, his tail anchoring himself to His. He hated this blue for being so mean – he didn’t know how, but he’d get revenge for it, he would – watch and see, silly young blue. T’ridHis was the best human on the face of Pern and the stupid didn’t know that – even the Salamandyr named Stupid knew that – stupid blue. The feline-patterned brown hissed once more, defiantly watching as Arrogance landed on Ebolath. Not his property, that; the silly blue could have him – he didn’t want the green; he had His and that was the best. Folding his wings and huffing defiantly at Arrogance again, Conspiracy leaned against T’rid’s neck and face, head rubbing against the bronzerider’s jaw-line and nuzzling him affectionately – this was how you were supposed to treat your Bonded, especially when Yours was as amazing as His was – was that silly stupid blue watching? He’d better be – he’d better be; if he ever treated His badly again, Conspiracy would – he’d – well, he didn’t really know, but he’d do something. So there.
Plucking Conspiracy off of his shoulder, T’rid clicked his tongue at the brown firelizard: The look on his face was distinctly more affectionate than it was when he looked at anyone else. Corinth was the one T’rid was closest to, naturally, but Conspiracy was the one that T’rid was fondest of – the brown hero-worshipped the bronzerider, never argued with him, and backed him up no matter what: Corinth and Stupid, on the other hand…they argued. Corinth and Conspiracy were exclusive to that adoration; Stupid was not, and neither, it could be noted, was Raylin. However, as she spoke, he tilted his head, the look on his face undeniably curious as to her words. He couldn’t honestly blame her for being frightened he’d reject her: T’rid did hold grudges – and had it been anyone but Raylin, they would have been rejected. Probably very painfully, too; sarcasm was a talent, it was.
Her arms around him was unexpected, and for a moment, the bronzerider stiffened before he relaxed again, arms circling the Weyrling’s shoulders loosely, leaving Conspiracy to cling to his forearm, chirruping curiously at Raylin; the firelizard was more or less the one who expressed T’rid’s moods the most accurately; Corinth often had his own opinions on things, but Conspiracy took T’rid’s feelings and made them very, very obvious to the world at large; right now, the brown was simply curious, no longer antagonistic – because that was how T’rid felt. “By ‘half dead’ do you mean you look like you haven’t slept for a few days?” said bronzerider questioned frankly. “If not, I’d suggest you tell your Saeo she should keep her opinions to herself.” And then, even though he knew that it was probably broaching a rather sensitive idea, he added, “I don’t see where I’d go to, anyway…” And even if he did go, how long could he stay away? Very, very few people, did T’rid allow to become close to him, and when they did, they didn’t just leave…
The little blue annoyance has gone, Corinth interrupted his thoughts. The bronze had nodded at Ebolath soberly, but he hadn’t said anything more – the splint had been made; whether or not it would work was not to be seen through talking. It was up to Raylin and to His – and he knew at least one of the pair was still nervous. Not that T’rid would ever admit it, but…I suppose he’s from the golden cousin’s clutch – the one that looks to the firelizard man? he added to Ebolath, curiously, realizing that she might find silence to be oppressive or awkward. The mental image of Arrogance that accompanied the question made it clear who Corinth was talking about. Silly blue annoyance, that; he’d managed to agitate Conspiracy horribly, and Stupid would probably hate him on the spot, too – though that more because he got to be close to Ebolath all the time and he, Stupid, didn’t. Hmm.

Raylin sighed as she felt T’rid relax. His question however made her frown slightly. “It’s that obvious? I have had trouble sleeping lately. I chalk it up to emotional stress, nightmares and such. I think that’s what she meant. It better be anyway.” Turning her head up to look at Conspiracy she reached toward the brown fire lizard. “Why can’t Arrogance be more like you huh?” Taking a breath Raylin blinked away the remainder of her tears.
Everything would be fine wouldn’t it? Right now it wasn’t exactly perfectly fine. That was to be expected. But things where better. Better than before. That, at least, she was sure of. Still the weyrling had T’rid’s question to answer. Raylin thought a moment before carefully answering. “I don’t know where exactly you would go. I just know you can do a good job of disappearing when you want to. If I hadn’t asked Ebolath to scout for you I would have probably never found you. Every time I went to your weyr intending to speak to you, someone or another said you weren‘t around. I knew you where avoiding me. I could have had Ebolath bespeak Corinth but she insisted your bronze was angry with her. So I had to get inventive.” Tightening her grip on him she sighed softly. “I really never wanted to hurt you. I still feel horrible about it. How have you been anyway?”
Ebolath turned her head to look at Corinth as he spoke. Yes he is gone. Arro is in fact from the lizard man’s gold. I hear a lot of them have interesting personalities. They hatched in the dinning hall. Raymine didn’t want one and he practically forced himself on her. We are stuck with him. He does naughty things all the time and as of yet we can’t seem to control him. Threats don’t work and neither do treats. Mine is at a loss. The green flicked her tail in agitation. I find him amusing sometimes. However, I do not find it amusing when he hurts mine. Other times he can be silly and not so bad. Mine can’t hate Arro. He is her mindmate and so she is incapable of it. But he does try her patience. Sometimes he makes her want to scream. I suppose we will get used to the annoyance. After all he can hardly be more horrible then Hepaticath’s green cousin. I met her once and she shrieked in my face, simply for speaking to her. Suddenly Ebolath snorted and her eyes whirled anxiously. Oops. I suppose I am rambling to you aren’t I. The green ducked her head slightly embarrassed. She had not had an actual conversation in awhile and it hadn’t occurred to her until now that Corinth might not appreciate her ramblings. Oh Arro has caught the darter. He intends to put in in someone's bed.

Was it that obvious? T’rid smirked slightly; he couldn’t help it. Why, yes: It was rather obvious – well, perhaps not to someone who didn’t know Raylin, but he did. Better than he’d admit. The greenweyrling looked tired and she really did probably need to sleep. Hmm. Maybe he’d drug her to sleep if she kept wandering around like a zombie. The bronzerider was betting that nobody would mind as long as he explained to Ebolath exactly what and why he was doing; Corinth would doubtlessly panic if someone tried to sedate him, after all. “Hmm. Well,” was his comment, though there was a decidedly thoughtful glint in his eye. “Try a little harder.” Was that all he had to say on the subject? No. Not at all. But if she knew he’d quite literally give her something to knock her out for a half day or something, she’d fight it and then it wouldn’t work. Not as well as he’d hoped, anyway. She’d thank him after she’d taken her…involuntary nap, as it were. Hopefully, it wouldn’t have to get to that.
Conspiracy, not in the least oblivious to His plotting, twittered pleasantly at Raylin. His was okay with her now – at least, okay enough to get protective – and therefore, he must distract the greenweyrling so she didn’t notice His plotting. His face was deadpan enough, but the fact that he wasn’t lecturing her had to set off some bells, didn’t it? He’d fix that, he would. The brown firelizard flapped one wing at the mention of Arrogance, and then fluted, determined to set a good example. Did she see? If he stayed around enough, maybe Arrogance would figure out what a good firelizard and a good pet was supposed to be like, and he’d be nicer and T’ridHis wouldn’t have to put up with the little nasty every time she, Raylin, came by – wouldn’t that be nice? Or he could just make Corinth scare him off – but that’d be mean, wouldn’t it…? And sort of…cowardly, making Corinth fight for him. Hmm, hmm…
T’rid bowed his head slightly, crinkling his nose. He didn’t like avoiding people; it made him feel…ridiculous, to be quite honest. It was, to fit nicely with Conspiracy’s thoughts, cowardly, and he knew that, but he didn’t want to face Raylin because she’d actually hurt him; she’d been one of the only people in the Weyr who could – actually, he couldn’t think of anyone else who could, save for Corinth, Conspiracy, and Stupid, and they wouldn’t. But it had worked, and that…made him feel even worse. “Sorry. I’ve been busy,” he commented evasively. Which was pretty true; since the Junior Weyrleader post was unfilled since N’tia had died, the responsibilities had come to rest on all of the bronzeriders – especially the Wingleaders. He hadn’t been that busy, but…still. “And…Corinth was never upset with Ebolath. He…didn’t think it was fair to talk to her, though. Not when we weren’t.” He tilted his head slightly to one side, and then shrugged at her question. “Busy,” he answered, deliberately evasive again, before he smirked, playfully, though his next word was completely serious: “Lonely.”
The bronze dragon lowered his head to the ground again, listening to Ebolath as she spoke. He’d missed the little green, had Corinth; it was nice to talk to her again, even about something as simple as firelizards. Have you tried telling him that he wouldn’t get oiled? Conspiracy likes to be oiled, and he’s still growing, so it’s essential that he /is/, but…as a threat? The bronze rumbled, and then leaned forward to nudge Ebolath’s shoulder lightly, eyes whirling rapidly in amusement. I don’t know if you’re rambling or not, but I like listening to you. I’ve missed you… He crooned slightly, and then added seriously, He doesn’t know where Mine lives, does he? Oh – oh well. I expect Stupid will think it’s a meal for him, if he /does/ get it into our weyr…

Raylin raised an eyebrow at T'rid's statement. “I have been trying to sleep. I just have too much in my head. I can’t help but think about things at night. It’s the only time of the day I’m not doing something. I lay there and think, and before you know it Rukbat has risen. I’m lucky if I average a couple candle marks lately. Or if I do fall asleep I have nightmares.” Worrying her lower lip she sighed. It was true sleep just didn‘t come easy. Although with this particular problem on the mend maybe it would come a bit easier. “I’ve been snuggling with Ebolath some nights because it gets so bad.” Looking up at the bronze rider the weyrling searched his face curiously. His silence spoke volumes as it where. He had nothing to say? No lecture? That was...a bit odd. She was under the impression that he liked to correct her.
Further thoughts where distracted however by Conspiracy, and Raylin smiled openly at the little brown. Reaching up to rub his eye ridges. “Yes you are a very nice flitter. Arrogance could learn a lot from you. Although I doubt the pain will listen. He is hard headed he is.” The weyrling practically cooed as she spoke to the flit. She couldn’t help it. He was so adorable. The girl dropped her hand from the fire lizard to rest it against T’rid’s chest as he spoke. Busy? With so few bronze riders she didn’t doubt it. But, he had been avoiding her nonetheless. She knew that, no matter what excuse he made to the contrary or how he tried to avoid the fact. A small prick of guilt sat in Raylin’s chest. She had made him hide from her.
“I know Corinth wasn’t mad at Ebolath. He was angry at me. I tried to tell her that, but I’ve been so messed up, so upset. She didn‘t want to make it worse. I think she understands now.” She half turned to look at her green and smiled when she saw Corinth touch her dragon’s shoulder. “Regardless of all that, you may want to warn Corinth before Ebolath smothers him in affection.” Raylin turned and smiled at T’rid before lifting an eyebrow at his comment and playful smirk. “Lonely?” The weyrling smiled as she repeated the word and raised her hand to lay it alongside his face. “Well you won’t have to be anymore.” The urge to kiss him then was nearly unbearable and she only hesitated for a second before standing on her tip toes to kiss him gently.
Ebolath tilted her head at the bronze’s words. No we haven’t tried that. I actually think that might work! He loves to be oiled as well, and the more handsome he appears the better. The loves attention. Immensely so. Crooning softly as he touched her shoulder she shamelessly rubbed her head against his neck. I have missed you to. Very much so. The happiness in her tone was unmistakable as well as the flare of blue that now dominated her gaze. I missed you all, but you especially. Rumbling, she flicked her tail. I am not sure if he does. But I bet the darter will be dropped in someone else’s weyr. Probably someone who randomly angered him. He is a vengeful thing he is. Speaking of Stupid will you send him my regards? I miss him as well. Is he over Calistoth yet?

She had tried, then, had she? The greenweyrling was probably not aware of the fact that she was more or less setting herself up to be slipped a sedative someday. T’rid crinkled his nose at her, head tilting slightly to one side. It was worse if she’d actually been trying – insomnia, much? And nightmares. Well then. He bit his tongue, yearning to tell her that sedatives didn’t leave nightmares. And – there was curiosity, too; even with Ebolath, she had nightmares – ? T’rid had all but completely stopped having nightmares, simply for the fact that he couldn’t imagine life without Corinth – and therefore, Corinth was always in his dreams, his presence in his mind if not physically there, and he could never be purely terrified when Corinth was there; he couldn’t imagine things bad enough. Corinth was always safe. Clearly…it was not the case with Ebolath. “Do you,” he answered thoughtfully, head tipping the other way as he appraised her for another moment. “Mm. We’ll have to fix that now, won’t we.” How? She could think about it herself – see what she figured out.
Conspiracy, meanwhile, was positively preening at Raylin’s attention; he hoped that the nasty little blue was watching, he did – he’d see how a real pet behaved, he would. In his opinion, the mean would do very well indeed to be locked inside a trunk like the Stupid was when he thought about being naughty – but oh; he could between out, couldn’t he? Hmm. They’d have to figure something out, they would. The brown twittered pleasantly at the greenrider; it was okay, it was – he’d think of something and then the blue wouldn’t have any choice but to be nice. How, exactly, he’d accomplish this, Conspiracy had absolutely no idea; but he would find out! T’rid smirked slightly at the brown firelizard, raising one finger to pat him on the tip of his nose, stroking the brown’s hide with a fingertip and tracing one of the rosettes on his hide. It amused him very much, how violently the brown had rejected Arrogance.
His smirk faded at Raylin’s words. She knew, did she – ? He wouldn’t apologize to her for it; to him, Corinth had every right to be upset. Ebolath, however, being upset because of it – was understandable, he supposed, but if the green dragon had actually been hurt – T’rid ground his teeth together before he shook his head once. “I’m glad. He’s missed her, and Stupid has, too.” Speaking of the brown Salamandyr…T’rid reached for the Salamandyr’s mind and found him sprawled flat in a puddle of sunlight, dead asleep. He rolled his eyes slightly, adding, “I’m sure he’d tell Ebolath himself, but…uh, yeah, he could be dead right now and I wouldn’t know the difference. Can’t believe he sleeps in the middle of the day…” No wonder he was so active at night – which wasn’t even right for a Salamandyr; weren’t they diurnal? He was convinced Stupid just liked to discomfit him completely, because T’rid did not take kindly to having a Salamandyr crawling on his chest at night complaining because he was hungry.
The kiss surprised him – but it wasn’t a bad thing, he supposed; almost without thinking did the bronzerider return the kiss. Admittedly, T’rid hadn’t expected anything of the sort – not so soon after Calistoth’s Flight; he’d very much expected Raylin to be…very, very stiff. Not because of the argument necessarily – but she wasn’t, and he was hardly complaining. His head tilted as Conspiracy cooed softly, and after a moment, the bronzerider quirked one eyebrow, and then smirked before he took a step back and then flopped down on the edge of the river, Conspiracy squeaking in alarm. “Very enthusiastic with this one chance of yours, aren’t you?” he commented; the statement was distinctly teasing; he really didn’t mean offense – but it did amuse him.
That the green returned the physical affection was…greatly relieving; Corinth had been prepared for rejection. But Ebolath hadn’t; the bronze crooned softly, his head running along the green’s neck and coming to a rest against her back affectionately. Best wishes for success, then. He seems very…irritable indeed. The dragon flicked his tail thoughtfully, the tip drawing a splash of water from the river, at the mention of Stupid; he crooned again. Mine says he is dead asleep right now; he won’t wake if I yell at him – otherwise I’m sure he’d love to come here. I will pass your regards to him, and yes; he’s very much over Calistoth – or at least, her rejection. As far as /she/ goes… The bronze rumbled doubtfully. I’m not quite sure he’s not going to Chase her next time around too. But he’s no longer upset about it. Which was, really, an achievement.
