Although the infirmary is well managed and has a great deal of bed space it has been packed full of wounded survivors.
The current death toll to the Weyr's occupants is 63. There are still a few in critical care and many others with moderate to severe injuries. The new tools developed last year have been a determining factor in the survival rate. More work and development is recommended.
Supplies for the infirmary are low but the Dragon Riders keep foraging the raw materiel's we need. I would like to ask for additional medical assistants and supplies.
Bandages are our greatest supply need at this time, although cases of numbweed and redwort are needed as well. Herbs for cramps and dysentery would be helpful.
I will send another status report in two weeks time. Till then, I hope all goes well with you Masterhealer.
Asharra
Master Healer
Selenitas Weyr
Asharra sat back from the small desk and sighed. So many of these people have died. Until she heard the screams of dragons and felt the overpowering thoughts of grief and suicide she had no idea of how close a rider and dragon were. Since her arrival here she had received nothing but respect from her colleges and others of the Weyr. She grieved for their losses now too, for some of those who had died where people she had come to respect.
I never thought I would grieve for the death of dragon riders She had slowly gained a respect for the men and women of this Weyr. She had been suspicious at first...waiting to see the same habits that had disgusted her in years past...but didn't find them. Seeing that these people simply worked, lived, played, hoped... allowed her to slowly begin to change her views on dragonriders. It had given her much the think about.
She stood up and felt her lower back crack. She gently stretched her arms upward...well aware of the bruising on her arms and soreness of her right external oblique*. Between getting pushed over and some rough handling she had acquired the bruises and pulled muscles...yet compared to others, had only mild injuries.
She began to make her rounds, checking patients and fluids and bed pans.
*External Oblique=largest and the most superficial (outermost) of the three flat muscles of the lateral anterior abdomen.
