Humans:
Name: J’on (formerly Jarathon)
Age: 25 (born October 2998)
Gender: male
Sexual Orientation: homosexual
Rank: greenrider/searchrider
Physical Appearance: It has to be said that J’on could be considered devastatingly attractive now that he’s grown into himself. He isn’t particularly tall, standing at 5’5’’, and nor is he massively muscled, though thanks to the work involved in caring for his dragon J’on does have some definition to his muscles.
The main attention drawer in J’on’s face is his eyes, which are a soft tawny brown and always seem to convey trust, at least when he’s not in a life of death situation. Most of the devilish handsomeness of this young man is actually conveyed through his expression because considered by themselves his features, though attractive, are not remarkable, it’s the winsome grins, the sidelong looks, and the sunny smiles. J’on worst facial feature, in his opinion, is the light dusting of freckles that covers his nose and spills over onto his cheekbones.
Generally J’on appears slightly untidy, his hair is always flopping in his eyes and looks like it needs a cut even after it’s just had one, and his clothing always seems to be slightly worn no matter how new it is. J’on’s just hard on clothing, and besides, he’d rather wander around nude and show off to everybody, regardless of whether they want to see that much of him or not.
Personality: The first impression of J’on may well be stereotypical male greenrider, light minded, light hearted, and very light in love, but like so many others at Selenitas J’on’s first impression hides something more, which is just as well really.
It’s true that J’on would rather look on the bright side of any situation, if there is one to be seen, a rather odd attitude since it often seems that J’on has lived through more tragedy than happiness. However he hates to dwell on the bad parts of the past and prefers to recall what he had when he had it, rather than the pain of losing it.
It’s also true that in classic greenrider style J’on is a notorious flirt and has developed a reputation for spreading the love around, however it should be noted that this is entirely of his own devices and occurs constantly regardless of Ringath’s cycle. J’on though is very much a gentleman’s man, he gained an antipathy bordering on fear for being intimate with women during his green salamandyr’s first Run, or rather just after it when the woman bonded to Wraith’s mate totally freaked out on his 13 turn old self.
No matter who his human partners are J’on’s first love is always his dragon, there’s very little he won’t do for Rinagth.
History: Just another weyrbrat. Jarathon was the son of a greenrider and, most probably, the result of one of the green’s flights. He was fostered to one of the kitchen workers, a woman who insisted Jarathon pull his weight in chores. Normally chopping vegetables, stirring pots, or some other tedious task much to his disgust; he’d rather have been helping to wash dragons or looking for fire lizard eggs but what boy wouldn’t?
When Jarathon turned twelve he resolved to improve his behaviour in hopes of standing for a clutch and Impressing, this was a particularly hard resolution for Jarathon to keep to and no one, not even he, was sure how long it will last. His efforts did pay off far enough for him to stand for Millieth’s clutch.
Despite not Impressing when he stood for Millieth’s clutch Jararthon didn’t give up, even though one of his closest friends did Impress at that hatching. He returned to the rounds of chores, study, and mischief that made up his life with a vengeance, and was severely embarrassed by the results of his salamandyr’s first Run. Only he could have a pet that preferred other greens.
At the hatching of the second clutch he stood for Jarathon Impressed green Rinagth making him J’on, and as hatchling dragons often do the vain and flighty beast became the centre of his life. Fortunately this was a period of relative peace in Selenitas’s history and J’on was able to get on with adoring his life partner without much interruption from the outside. Even the big events of two hatchings all but fell by the wayside as J’on settled into his new life.
However not long after the hatching of Aslath’s clutch of twelve disaster struck with a vengeance as weyrwoman Shmee, as well as several others, was poisoned by an unknown party. This string of deaths sent the weyr into disarray and panic. Eventually the measures put into place by T’rid won out and things settled down but not before a good portion of the Weyr doubted the man’s competence as Weyrleader.
Happily for everyone, probably even T’rid, T’rid was replaced as weyrleader when gold Millieth Flew, making Keagan senior weyrwoman, and K’roi senior weyrleader. J’on was supremely unbothered by having a former Bendenite in charge, but then, he always tried to look for the best in people.
Soon after Benden finally made their reappearance in the middle of the night to attack Selenitas Weyr, targeting the infirmary, wherhandler quarters, and weyrling barracks. The attack was not only a disaster for Selenitas, as much of the weyr was actually destroyed, it was also a disaster for Benden as their weyrleader was killed, as indeed, was their weyrsecond. Many fighters on both sides of the battle were killed and the southern clean up teams were digging mangled corpses out of the rubble for days afterward.
Benden might have been driven off for now but apparently Fort riders saw no reason not to make a brief sortie into the south, and why? Because they were looking for an entire wing they’d somehow lost, a wing that was later found at Benden with the wingleader, J’lorin as Benden’s new weyrleader.
More trouble came in the form of attempted theft of the junior queen Hepaticath’s eggs, a swiftly deployed move by an unknown Weyr, although the High Reaches were eventually deemed the likely suspects, the thieves were quickly dealt with by riders, dragons, and even candidates, but not before K’lir’s green Calistoth was killed in combat.
Because nothing could ever be normal in Selenitas Weyr anymore the hatching of Hepaticath’s eggs was a rather confusing event, with gold Jingth choosing a girl from the stands and K’lir reImpressing, the first reImpression known at Selenitas, to another green.
Not long after gold Hepaticath’s second Flight seven strangers arrived at the main hall, all in bad shape, carrying with them the tale that riders from Fort Weyr had attacked and all but wiped out the supposedly secret High Reaches Weyr. Of course it was less than a candlemark later when the Fortians began arriving at Selenitas, but this time the southern Weyr was prepared for an attack. However it became apparent that their preparations were not as good as they might have liked. Though weyrfolk, wherhandlers, and the weyrlings had been ordered to the protected hatching sands it still ended in near disaster as the stands were set on fire and the sands had to be evacuated.
Another period of relative peace developed after the Fort invasion was repelled, with nothing more interesting than a ‘gift’ of hostages from Selenitas’ new allies in the north. Although on the personal drama front J’on managed to get into a fairly stable relationship with a bluerider named J’ash, a relationship that ended up near shattered after J’ash’s blue was injured in Rinagth’s Flight, not only by a rival male but also by Rinagth herself.
Of course the peace couldn’t last, because at Selenitas these days no peace ever did. The hostage/gift riders turned out to have been spies from a fourth Weyr based somewhere in the south, comprised of former Bendenites who were determined to re take Benden and bring back the old ways, but if they couldn’t have Benden, Senenitas would do for a while.
During the attack J’on and Rinagth were pinned down in their weyr and forced to remain. However J’on had very little spirit for the battle anyway as his salamanyr Wraith had been killed in the attack. The loss of his oldest mindmate left a gaping hole in the greenrider’s life and that, combined with his recent break up with J’ash sent J’on into a withdrawn sort of depression for a while.
However eventually all things come to an end and J’on was dropped onto the road to recovery by Rinagth bringing him literally to J’ash, at the top of the drum tower. However just when it looked like the pair might make it up, J’ash managed to fall off the tower. The bluerider was rescued by a passing wastelander, but the whole experience was enough to give J’on horrible nightmares. Fortunately he could always comfort himself that J’ash was still alive with ease since the two riders did manage to make it up and J’ash could normally be found in the same bed as J’on.
Millieth’s Rising only confirmed the position of the wastelanders as Demotaeth caught the gold. Even the hatching day of that clutch was overshadowed by gloom, as wasteland riders crowded around the sands from the outset. The air of nervousness only intensified when the first hatchling emerged wingless. In fact the clutch was one of the most mutated so far with the wingless blue, a second flightless blue, a blind green, and a tailless one, an extremely small bronze, an albino, and even the queen hatchling wasn’t quite normal.
The air of foreboding turned out to be entirely justified as shortly after the last dragons Impressed all hell broke loose on the sands. Wasteland riders had attacked the four hatchlings with the most obvious mutations and killed them almost before anyone could really comprehend what was happening. Although Millieth eventually restored both the Wasteland and the native dragons to order (much to Rinagth’s disgust) the relations between the Selenitas folk and the wastelanders were definitely on the rise again.
Not long after that hatching a salamandyr hatching in the main hall landed J’on with a second salamandyr, the sadistic little blue was nothing like a replacement for J’on’s beloved Wraith, but keeping him out of trouble did at least give J’on something to occupy his mind. As did the increase in patrols resulting from tithe thefts by Selenitas exiles.
Shortly after wasteland had occupied Selenitas for a turn Ja’kin stepped down as Weyrleader, and H’nes took over. An almost pointless change since only a month or two later H’nes’s Quarth won gold Millieth’s Flight.
Not long after that J’on had the misfortune to be on a sweep wing that encountered exiled riders stealing tithes. Although he and Rinagth had no choice in fighting, J’on took it upon himself to direct Rinagth as if she were less experienced in combat than she truly was, as the two of them were assigned to threadfall wings this behaviour didn’t seem out of place, and the greenpair were able to get through the battle without giving or receiving more than a few scratches. Others did not fare so well.
As if pitched battles over the tithe trains wasn’t enough Selenitas had its biggest crisis of J’on’s lifetime in the form of a massive earthquake which struck in the middle of the night, leaving J’on trapped in a small area surrounding his weyr to wait to be dug out by the wher teams.
Only two days after the earthquake, riders from the exile Weyr, for it seemed they had found one to occupy themselves, arrived and offered their assistance, and the merge of the two Weyrs, certainly a good exchange, if one tainted with ill feeling as Millieth was due to clutch and the Selenitas hatching grounds were destroyed and the exiles had lost their only queen.
New Selenitas, as it came to be called was a fine subterranean Weyr quite obviously created in ancient times when men had the tools to work stone with ease, but it was somewhat tense for the first month or so until everyone was sure they weren’t going to be murdered in their bed by someone with an old score to settle.
The queens seemed to be determined to make up the population again quickly as both Millieth’s clutch and the wher Eikask’s contained the strange anomaly of twins, Browns Oth and ?Uth for the dragons and blue Sensk and green Sesk for the whers. In addition to this the firelizard and salamandyr queens were busy producing their own clutches, though J’on avoided those, one Feline and one salamandyr was quite enough for him.
However in the midst of all these hatchings came death in the form of disease. A plague ran through the firelizard and salamandyr populations like wildfire. When Flash became ill J’on decided to take the blue for experimental treatments during the early stages of the diease. His salamandyr survived with the only lingering after effect being his strangely reversed speech.
In the early part of 3018 a dangerous beast attacked the whers of New Selenitas, killing two pairs before the pack was driven off. The beast that was brought back for autopsy was of a species never identified before, though the former exiles were of the opinion that it was the same species that had invaded the Weyr’s records room in the time the Weyrs were separated.
Nitrath’s rising and the hatching of her sixteen eggs provided a welcome piece of news for a change, and much of the year continued peacefully thereafter.
The council decided it was futile to try and remain hidden from the northern Weyrs forever, and chose Benden Weyr as their allies against the greater evil of Fort Weyr. In 3019 J’on and Rinagth found themselves fighting other dragons again in one of the biggest battles of what would later be called The Dragon War. Rinagth was swift and fierce enough to collect nothing more than light wounds before the Fortian weyrleader was killed and the enemy was routed, however she would always fret over the scars on her tail.
For the greenpair the next turn or so was spent both hunting escaped fort riders and searching out new candidates. Hard work, but never tedious.
After the summit of 3020 J’on found himself transferred away from his home (as well as J’ash, with whom he still kept company) to the newly formed northern Weyr of Inverness. Although the war was over tension still ran high in the Weyr at times and J’on didn’t envy the newly appointed weyrleader his job of trying to keep it all together.
Dragon:
Name: Rinagth
Color: Green #00c957
Age: 13 (hatched 3010)
Physical Appearance: A brilliant, vivid chlorophyll green, the small dragon immediately catches the eye. Gold filaments seem to be caught within the life of her hide, occasionally gathering at one point or another in a burst of yellow. This makes her shimmer and glisten with each movement, even if it’s just the tiniest twitch of a muscle. She is dainty and well-proportioned. Her wings, however, are at least ten percent longer than normal for a dragon her size, and she’s been known to flare them whenever something upsets her or she just wants to make a statement.
Along with the vitality of her coloring, Rinagth is a distinctly vital green all on her own. Energy seems to flood through her at a constant rate. She can’t seem to sit still. Her stance is typically rigid, her chest expanded to the largest size she can manage, and she walks with the clear intent to attract as much attention – particularly male – as she can possibly get. This femme does not bow to anyone, and always maintains a dominant stance. Her frame itself is rather streamlined and given to quick, lithe movements, all of which contributes to the air of aggressiveness that always surrounds her.
Personality: Dear little Rinagth is starved for attention. She wants all eyes on her, all the time, and can get quite grumpy if someone else steals her spotlight, especially a queen. Perhaps due to constantly developing new and interesting ways to gain the attention she so craves, the green has become quite a clever little beast. Though she’s not intelligent in the normal sense, she’s very good at getting her way. If Rinagth does anything at all, she does it big. And there’s absolutely no doubt that she has an eye for beauty. Attracted to the more shapely males, envious of the daintier greens, and thoroughly enraptured by anything that glistens (except those stupid queens), appearance goes a long way with her.
Anything new and exciting will immediately catch her interest. Her desires and thoughts jump around constantly, responding to each new pull on her attention. Curiosity may very well be the death of her. Time and time again, she is drawn to things she doesn’t understand and compelled to try new and dangerous stunts just for the experience of it. Rinagth communicates her excitement with these new wonders quite eloquently. In fact, she has something of a gift with words – even if they do tend to illuminate the flightiness inherent in her personality rather blatantly.
This green contains within herself a stark inability to focus her attention on anything for very long. It makes teaching her a terrible chore, and it is doubtful that she will ever fully grow out of this, such that, in formations, she’ll likely be the wingleader’s biggest headache. Repetition and drilling are just so boring. In truth, she’s probably one of those who need it most, but you’ll never catch Rinagth admitting to that. Of course, this attitude carries over into her relation with male dragons. The green flirts with anything that moves. And her tastes change with the changing of the wind.
Pets:[/u]
Name: Flash
Species: salamandyr
Age: 7 (Hatched 3016)
Color: Blue Base B0E0E6 Stripes E6E8FA
Physical Appearance: Medium in size for a blue he is not the biggest mandyr in the clutch but nor is he the smallest. Overall he could be best described streamlined. Lithe and long he gives off a slightly serpentine appearance in fact. Nothing about him is thick but nor could he be described as skeletal he’s by no means bony. Yes serpentine fits him well as an overall descriptive word. This legs are short and easily curled up underneath his body and although he is no longer than your average mandyr he certainly gives off the appearance that he is. Such short legs however make him a bit slower than most mandyrs on the ground. Not that he cares. He’s most often clinging anyway. His tail is of normal length for a mandyr but a bit thicker than average. Short broad wings set upon his back are of little use for much flying or gliding but they make excellent appendages for his favorite activity. Swimming. Like the rest of the clutch he also lacks a frill. Instead sporting bony tines in a ring around his head. Unlike some of his sibling’s his frill spines are actually a tad longer than average and the tips of them are barbed.
His hide is a soft powder blue color. Not a bright or flashy shade by any means. The color is basically uniform all over except when you get to his wing membranes were it lightens to almost transparency. Although his base color sure isn’t really much to look at his accents are. Small silver flecks are present throughout this mandyrs hide. The flecking is near unnoticeable until he steps into the light where it actually gives off a flash when he moves. Eventually he will grow adept at moving to create these flashes of light whenever he wants. Either to attract something closer or possibly distract it for his own escape. The only place the silver can be seen well is on his tail where the same banding his siblings sport is also present on his own hide. Thick silver bands run the length of his tail from base to tip. Making his tail an excellent distraction tool when such is needed.
Personality: This mandyr seems to be making up for all the relatively sweet mandyrs out there. Because to be honest he is downright nasty. Prone to biting he doesn’t much show restraint when it comes to claws and teeth. He is often displeased and rather than broadcast it verbally he makes it known with hard and vicious bites to the most sensitive areas he can find. Being rather small it makes it all that much easier to invade clothing to dish out pain. This blue is not a very talkative sort. Not at all. Oh he’ll spit out some words on occasion and he has the capacity for speech. In fact he will pick up quite a few words rather easily. But none of them will be nice and his favorite words to use will be those that illustrate his frustration with near about anything. So basically curses. He’s terribly easy to set off and seems to have been born with the personality of a very unstable and neurotic canine. He’s very unpredictable. To the point of being perfectly sedate one minute and trying to gnaw your arm off the next. This blue’s not stupid in his attacks however. He doesn’t bite and hold on like some of his species. No. Instead he bites, tears, and moves on to try and create the most damage possible over a wide area before fleeing as soon as he’s sure you learned your lesson. Don’t irritate him.
For all his nastiness he still has his moments of perhaps light tolerance. These always come about when he is able to perform his favorite activity. Swimming. He absolutely adores the water and is an extremely good swimmer. His wings making excellent appendages for swimming and his serpentine shape allowing him to cut through the water with ease. When in the water he’s as happy as he gets and will even be prone to rare bouts of affection to his. Simply to make sure he’s allowed to swim again. Perhaps related to his love of water this little guys food preferences are rather different. He will only eat fish. That’s it. All other food is ignored. Except for perhaps the occasional egg. If his will not provide him with an adequate supply of fresh fish he will simply take to trying to catch his own. He absolutely hates small children with a passion. Noisy, dirty, grabby things. He’s not afraid to bite them and drive them away when they get close. He avoids most other mandyrs like the plague as well, especially females. He simply has no love for them or their noisy problems. Can’t they see he has enough of his own with all the idiots running around? Firelizards are tolerated and even on the occasion bizarrely liked. In fact in matters of mating he will never chase one of his own species but on the rare occasion he may go after a flit.
Name: Yu
Species: Feline
Age: 10 (born 3013)
Sex: Male
Appearance: A light cream color makes up his base coat. Dark orange tabby markings are scattered haphazardly across his body the greatest concentration of markings are clustered on his legs giving him the appearance of wearing stripped leggings. His coat is sort and silky and shedding will be minimal. He will be a small and dainty tom cat. Never getting very big and maxing out at about 11 pounds. His ears are comically large and give him a cute appearance when combined with his large greenish eyes.
Personality: This male is a lover and he will be happiest sprawled out on his bonded soaking up sun and attention. His love of his bonded is only topped by his love of high places. This is where the problem comes in. The tom will climb as high as he possibly can…and then freeze in fear and yowl pitifully until his human gets him down. This problem will continue all of his life and even heights as short as a dresser top will terrify him. No one understands his desire to climb in the first place since he is terrified of heights. Nevertheless he will continue to climb and then complain. Other than that he can be counted as the perfect cat. He hunts, loves, plays, and lazes around.
When company comes over he is the perfect gentleman and will introduce himself and then sprawl on an offered lap and purr away. He very much adores soft things and will frequently crawl under blankets to sleep. Only but high places scare him and he will even hiss and spit at a dragon if the beast displeases him. He could be called fearless if only heights did not bother him so.
Deceased pets:[/u]
Name: Wraith
Species: Salamandyr
Colour: green #397D02
Age: Adult
Physical Appearance: A delicate creature, this green is likely to catch all sorts of sniffles. She seems to be sneezing all the time, even from moments out of her egg, and will never grow to be very large. Her dark hide, a particularly rich shade of forest green, contrasts to her delicacy, and the tiny little wings on her back are almost entirely useless, except to flutter attractively every time she sneezes. Though her hide bears dark markings, little more than squiggles, really, they are very difficult to see. However, on her frill is where the real surprise is! Lacy markings in a pale yellow-orange color decorate her frill, denser near her neck, and thinning to a few tendrils of green-yellow that wrap around the very edge of her frill.
Personality: Incredibly friendly, especially for a green, this girl is quite willing to fraternize with most creatures—though she still bears the odd dislike of fire-lizards that all salamandyrs seem to have. However, she gets along well with just about any other creature, and has some sort of obsession with dragons, though she tends to call them “bugs,” which is likely to infuriate any dragon who manages to overhear her chatting with her humanpet or other salamandyrs. She is even likely to attempt to converse with dragons, though they may quickly tire of attempting to figure out what she’s trying to say, as she has only the barest grasp on the concept of language.
Interestingly enough, this green is one of the ones which prefers other greens to males. Though not flirty, she does tend to spend far more time around other female creatures, and loves to be touched and petted, going so far as to be willing to groom others if they will only pet her. Though this can sometimes get annoying—like when she begs for attention in the middle of the night—usually the combing of her talons through hair, or the careful grooming of the tiny hairs at the back of her minething’s neck, becomes very soothing.
(Wraith was killed during the wasteland invasion)
Name: Bane
Species: Firelizard
Color: Blue
Age Adult
Appearance: Large is this blue, for his size rivals that of a smaller brown, as does his wingspan, which is surprisingly long, but wide as well, seeming to overwhelm the flitter. As thus, his size is usually overlooked in favor of his impressive wings. Nevertheless, he is undoubtedly large, and his musculature is noticeable, too, taking away the agility usually acredited to a blue f'lizard. Instead of a slender, whippy build, this blue's body is leaning more towards bulky. Though nowhere near the bulk that a bronze might have, neither does he lack anything, for muscle ripples beneath his hide when he moves, clear. His hide, too, is rather surprising. The most accurate description would be a silvery blue - as if a medium, unimpressive powdery blue shade had been laid over with an almost metallic shade of whitish silver, the silver shades fading where limbs join his body and then darkening as one moves outwards, though always, the blue is dominant. Surprisingly, the color on his wings looks mismatched, with his left membrane a slightly darker shade of blue than the right, and a brilliant silver streak on the right.
Personality: Most people would describe this describe this blue as quiet, but that would be inaccurate, though only His will possibly ever know exactly what goes through his f'lizard's head. Many people will also describe him as always being there, on the scene of anything at all conscpicious - and it's true. He likes to know things, and while he'll never actually spy to find out "things," he'll often pop between to the scene of whatever it is he wants to see without warning. So silent is he - for he rarely makes much noise, only offering an ocassional chirrup or croon - that nobody usually notices his existence and his desire to "know" is usually sated. Never has this blue been a gossip, and never will he be one; the security of knowing things that another fire lizard doesn't is all he needs, and the satisfaction that some find in being the bearer of news has never tainted this blue. His independent streak is a mile wide, for rare it is that he bothers to stick around his Bonded, only doing so when there's something going on around there. However, he does have a sense of possessiveness for His, and it shows in a sulky jealousness towards anybody who he has to share his mindmate with, be it another fire lizard or a lover. Inactive is another good description of this blue, for he rarely enjoys anything that requires agility or movement in general, preferring to be a silent onlooker, simply perching and watching.

(Bane died during the flitter plague of 3010)
