Deceased: Southern Fever Epidemic
Name: Fae
Age: 10
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Undecided
Rank: Holdbrat
Physical Appearance: With long, unruly dirty-blonde hair, it is amazingly clear that her father is not Quentian. She practically never puts it back, preferring it tucked behind her ears, with a few locks of it swept over her shoulders…at least, when she can do anything with it at all!!
Fae has lovely, sparkling blue eyes, framed by some nicely-sized lashes. They aren’t very thick, and fairly light, but still noticeable enough, much like her eyebrows. This girl has small features – ears, nose, mouth – and ruddy-colored skin, and yet manages to look lovely. And no doubt, seeing as how she is only ten, Fae will become even prettier.
A fairly small build, Fae is slender, and isn’t quite at the age where she can be lightly muscled. She’s still got the slightest bit of baby-fat, over in her thighs, but that’ll be burned off with only a turn or two more of her running about. She’s about 4’5”, a little short for her age, but not by much. By the look of it, she’ll be hitting a small growth spurt soon, but it’s obvious even now that she will never be tall.
Her skin is a ruddy-hued, a trait that she gained from her father. Fae’s, however, is a couple shades darker – mainly because of the time she’s spent out in the sun. It’s tanned, evenly, and gives her a slightly older complexion, although the over-all looks makes it obvious how young the holdbrat actually is. Despite being almost constantly outside since she was five, Fae’s hair seems to have darkened, a bit, as well.
Personality: The most obvious trait Fae holds is her cunning, outgoing nature. She isn’t likely to be stumped by…well, anything, really, and she hates being restrained. It’s likely that this girl would do practically anything…within her morals, at least.
Another terribly obvious quality that Fae holds is her dislike of any fatherly figure. She wants to be free, and she flaunts the freedom that she has. The 10-turn-old doesn’t want that freedom contstricted, not by her father, Fabian, nor her ‘adoptive father’, Quentian. This being said, she tends to avoid both, clinging more to her mother.
Fae has always had the secret dream of becoming a dragonrider, and she intends to be searched the very day she becomes of age. She doesn’t know (or doesn’t care) what dragon she gets, dreaming only of the love and adventure she’d experience. It isn’t that she dislikes being at the hold, but at the Weyr she believes that she’d have no boundaries. The only problem with this dream is that she’d be forced to leave Jinny, although this fear is slowly evaporating as Fae grows older.
She has also had a fair liking to the whers that mined at the hold, although never near as much as she likes dragons. Fae thinks the creatures mysterious, however ugly, and although she has been told before that they are vicious creatures, the girl seems to know that they’re not.
Having always had secret, imaginary adventures, and played her little games alone, Fae was always very proud of her favorite, best game and secret. She could hear the dragons that flew over the Hold, and the watchdragon up in the tower! Although they didn’t always say the nicest things, Fae would constantly pretend to converse with them, and play like they were actually friends. Of course, the girl never actually did speak to them, except for once, and that dragon will never tell. Fae doesn’t want anyone to know – not yet, at least. It was her little secret, one that was specially guarded. Not even Jinny got to hear of it.
History: Born of a romance between Jinny and Fabian, Fae never really was part of the ‘pack’. She never really had her spot…and that suited her just fine. At an extremely early age, she was off on her own, toddling about as soon as she could stand on her legs.
It was about this time when she started to become indifferent towards Quentian, despite Jinny’s attempts. ‘A girl needs a father…’ but apparently this didn’t apply to little Fae. She had her little secret games, she had her mommy, and she was beginning to have siblings – that was all she needed in life. Fathers – useless, although caring, figures, who wanted to protect you too much. Why would she need someone in her life who acted as such? Little Fae did not know, and never wanted to know, so she began distancing herself from Quentian, bit by bit.
During this time, Fae began to hear voices in her head – rumbling voices, although not human, they were familiar. Thinking herself unnatural, maybe a demon, the little five-turn-old never told Jinny, or her siblings. She wasn’t willing to risk being sent away, after all, and if there was something wrong with her…well, the girl wasn’t leaving Mother, nor her siblings. And that was that.
This attitude is continuously sustained…or, at least, the attitude that she wouldn’t tell Jinny or anyone else. However, at the age of eight, Fae finally, tentatively, experimented with answering the voices that talked. And the rumbling voice that she had first heard actually answered.
Remarking that she was not his rider, and that she could actually hear him, and speak to him, it was obvious that he was absolutely flabbergasted. When the creature finally made a comment about Fae coming to the Weyr as a candidate as soon as she became of age, however, the girl understood.
Of course! It was a dragon! She had heard tales of those people that could hear them…and she was one of them? However, the words that this dragon proved to be terribly problematic, and Fae put the fact that she was a HAD aside, at least for the moment. For it had always been a dream of Fae’s to Stand, but…that would mean parting with Jinny and her siblings! Which was her reason for not telling her Mother in the first place. So, after a long pleading with the dragon (who happened to be the watchdragon), it was agreed that he would never speak of this, and would make no contact with her unless absolutely necessary.
He also stated that if Fae was ever in need of anything, to simply think very loudly, or call out, for help, and a dragon was bound to answer.
The next Turn, however, Fae heard the watchdragon go between. It was, by far, the most horrendous moment that she had ever had in her short life, and the girl never wished to relive it…although it was only completely and totally obvious that she would, someday…maybe even soon.
Fae was fairly distraught, for a seemingly unknown reason, and she gradually got over Iikith’s death.
Another Turn has passed, and now Fae is ten. She has grown completely apart from Quentian, and – after a recent visit to Fabian – has decided that she was completely and totally right in her early assumptions that it was better not to have a father. She hasn’t let herself get to know her biological father very well, and is still terribly rambunctious. Now, however, Fae is more focused…focused on becoming a dragon rider.
((Still fairly sucky, but...I’ll add on to it later. Promise.))
