There was a pot on the top shelf of a cabinet in the kitchens. It was completely full of sleeping flitter, all balled up in what had to be a rather uncomfortable fashion. Rose really hadn't planned it this way, she much preferred sleeping out in the sun, especially where her minions could admire her. But she'd been chasing after a tunnelsnake when she'd lost interest and merely curled up to nap.
When she awoke, she was in a tizzy of a mood. First at finding herself so confined in the pot. She couldn't stretch properly like this! She knocked the pot over in her initial flailings, sending it and herself crashing down off the top shelf it had been perched on. Half way to the counter below, Rose erupted from the pot and zoomed in a loud, raucous explosion, winging away from the fallen, clattering pot left in her wake.
Glowing like a second sun, she zipped around kitchen folk, under tables, over counters, through a stand of utensils and down again into a walk way before shooting up overhead to zip around the room toward the first open door she saw; into the main hall.
Screaming indignantly the whole way, Rose was a noise explosion into the busy place on top of a motion explosion, rather pissed off, excited, confused, disoriented, and demanding of attention all at the same time. For where were her males? Where was her entourage? Where were her faithful minions?! Summoning the flitters in the area to her as she continued her crazy flight antics, she reigned with chaos in the busy hall.
Dishes were spilled from hands as she went crashing past - some by accident, some deliberately cause by her talons grasping at the offensive creations blocking her path as she hurtled past anyway. People were tripped as she zigged back and forth at knee level, under chairs, around tables, over tables, back under the tables, and between more chairs and benches, between knees and over heads, through clusters of people and down the length of tables, deliberately crashing any standing dish or mug she could as she zoomed past.
As soon as one pass was done, she was coming around for another, for lack of seeing a way out of the hall. All while screaming at the top of her Golden lungs, demanding all eyes be upon her glowing hide, calling all flitters to her, to be the adoring crowds that she demanded they be. She was Queen, after all! And anyone who didn't agree? Well she was more than willing to take their head off for their heresy!!!

Azaran had... well, no use in lying... been stalking Rose since she'd started glowing. Playing court with her whenever it was possible, and over all spending as much time complimenting her as much as possible. Not that he was obsessed with the Gold, no, it was more that she (in the wake of Ellie's death) had moved up in rank as his preferred Queen. If only because they had mated before, but the Bronze would never admit that to Rose, lest she decide to try and rip his head off. Which, knowing the Queen, he wouldn't put it past her to try. He yawned from his position in the rafters of the Great Hall, shuffling his wings as he woke from his nap. He would have followed his Queen into the kitchen but Azaran had had one to many experiences with wooden spoons to know that he wasn't terribly welcome in there. He was about to settle back down for a probably boring and extended wait when a raucous from the kitchens directed his attention toward the serving area.
Jumping up as Rose started screeching and complaining, Azaran crouched on his beam, ready to drop into the air as soon as the Queen left the kitchens. He knew better than to rush nose first into the fray, more likely than not he'd get knocked out of the air by a stray spoon or something. No thanks, he didn't trust the foodfemales and their flailings. As the Gold erupted out from the kitchens Azaran tracked her progress before tossing himself into the air, calling out to Rose, trying his best to get her to see reason. Aka... calm her down. He'd been able to do it at their previous hatching, and he didn't want her to be agitated during her flight. She should relax and allow herself to be adored! Eyes swirling purple he took a parallel path to her own, switching altitude depending on whether or not it looked like he'd hit into a person.
Hovering as Rose came about for another pass, Azaran chirped encouragingly to her. There was a way out. Look humans come in and out of the door, she just needed to wait for them to open it again. Moving forward he trailed behind Rose at a distance, not wanting to spend all of his energy trying to keep up with her. His Queen! He called out again. Pretty Queen. She should be careful! Knocking into all of those things could hurt her. He wouldn't want her hurt, nor would any of her... ehem, followers.

Was it smart for a wild flit to still get this close to the weyr. Not at all. Did that stop the copper colored wildling? Of course not. Where there was a queen there most certainly was a way and he had the nifty use of between after all. Although he wasn’t all that keen on being this close to so many humans where there was a will there was always a way to tolerate. Besides his human bonded arch rival would be there. How could he pass up a chance to steal the glorious Rose from right under his nose? Answer he couldn’t. So the wild bronze had chosen to use the refuse shoot to enter the kitchens.
Peeking his head out at the bustling drudges and rustling his wings he gave a concerned look around before the pot fell and with a squawk he shot into the air just as the gold herself did. With a trill of concern the copper colored bronze circled the now shouting kitchen workers and, dodging one, followed Rose as she zipped though the open door and into the Main Hall itself. Once in open air he circled upwards to hover along the rafters and get his bearings. He had never been in a place with so many humans before and the desire to flit between and away warred with the stronger desire to mate. In the end Rose’s golden form and the sight of Azaran kept him hovering in place.
Narrowed purple eyes fixed themselves on the other male bronze before the wildling flipped neatly backwards and circled, calling out to Rose. Of course they wouldn’t want her hurt. That would just be terrible. She obviously needed a better more open place to fly. Away from all these humans who could not appreciate her beauty.

Casiloy, Casiloy's brown mandyr had honestly been kinda displeased when he found one of his hidey holes occupied by a sleeping creature. If it had been another salamandyr who had taken refuge in his secret place, he would have given them a nice bite to wake them up, by the brown recognized the golden shape whom was curled up to be Rose, one of the golden flits, so he allowed her to sleep on. He didn't want to displease the pretty after all.
A few minutes later, when Casiloy had sucesfully gorged himself on some scraps that had fallen off the table, snatching them in his mouth before crawling under the table and eating them out of view, he heard Rose's infuriating screech. Prettyqueen fly? he chirped with intrest. Prettyqueen wants Casiloyworship chase yes? Pretty wants to be rapidie raped?Chase pretty shiny Casiloy chase! The brown scuttled across the bench he was now purched on and leaped into the air after Rose.
The lithe salamandyr had been gifted with a set of fully functioning wings, and he loved to use them. Perhaps his ability to fly was the reason that Casiloy refused to participate in 'mandyr runs, perferring to engage solely in fire lizard flights. Casiloy launched himself into the air, following the shiny rose, with intrest, flapping his wings in order to stay aloft. Casiloy viewed his compatition as he zipped after the agitated gold. Two bronzes? But they were firelizards, no match for the allmighty Casiloy! Letting out a bulge that was identical to one a lusty bronze dragon made, he trumpted to Rose. Dragon wins firelizard yes? Then Casiloy wins all! He was the smartestest of the lot afterall.
Worship the pretty Casiloy worships good! Worship Worship Worship. Casiloy trumpeted, changing directions abruptly as Rose shot past him in the other direction. No! Where was she going, she should come back! Casiloyhurried after her, pumping his wings, trying to close the gap. Where were those stupid bronzers? Why weren't they worshipping?WORSHIP THE PRETTY! Casiloy practically shouted at the two unworthies who wanted his pretty gold. Rose was his! Casiloy will Rape you, Casiloy bulged to his pretty.

The choice to chase was not easy for Daniel. He was in the dining hall with his Serissa, gently grooming her golden curls as she ate. Not out of affection, oh no (although he had affection for His in spades); rather, she hadn't wanted to brush her hair today, and when the Brown complained she had said "If you care so much, why don't you do it?" He'd been working on it for the rest of the day.
And.... he wasn't done yet. The almost-black brown was still working when a horrible clatter came from the kitchen, making his elegant head swivel towards the door. Serissa looked up sideways, shooting him a questioning thought, and Daniel repeated it right back, going back to his grooming. Then she appeared.
She was, in short, the most beautiful creature Daniel had ever seen. He rustled his wings as she appeared, dropping Serissa's hair and folding his cloak-like wings around himself with a wave of lust shoved in Serissa's direction. "Hmm?" she asked, eyes tracking the gold right along wih Daniel's... but skipping off gold hide to take in the bronzes, the shouting brown Salamandyr. "Oh." That got a smile from the Bluerider, and she flapped a hand at him. "Go on, chase her. Go on!" But he hadn't finished her hair, he told her, by means of pictures of her head and a feeling of disappointment. He must not leave a task incomplete. "Oh, you can finish that later. Go!"
That was all Daniel needed. Launching off Serissa's shoulder (and whacking her over the head with an oversized wing as he went), the Brown took to the air, silent but for a quiet, understated croon of longing. His overlarge wings hindered him more than helped him even in open spaces; in the confined dining hall, his ponderous flaps were good for little more than circling up near the ceiling. Hopefully Rose would make it outside soon!

The gold's cries alerted Haru from 'his' nap on a window ledge. A queen! A glorious queen! Only these beauties were worthy of 'his' attention. 'He', who was the most magnificent of bronzes. None could compare to 'his' skill and handsome appearance. True, Ghost had not chosen 'him', but she was a small queen and Haru knew 'he' deserved better. Rose was 'his'! The other males were worthless. Only 'he' was worthy of the beautiful Rose.
Screeching loudly, Haru dove from 'his' ledge and joined in the Chase. Chairs, tables and other obstacles were not match for 'him'. 'He' was far more agile than the other bronzes and could fly far faster than the pathetic worms. Zipping in Rose's wake, 'he' easily dodged the plates and bowls she upset. Fear not, fair beauty, Haru cried. 'He' would see that no stupid humans bothered her ever again!
To everyone but Haru's own twisted mind, it must have seemed a ridiculous picture. How many other greens liked to chase golds?

As upset and pissed off as Rose was, she did not fail to notice that the flitters in the area were finally starting to respond to her demands. Slow pokes, most of them! But she would forgive them this time, at least they were attending to her. The first one that she saw was a handsome Bronze wild flitter. Rose had nothing against wildlings ... they were cut of a different cloth, somehow managing to survive without any slavehumans to cater to their whims. That was respectable ... certainly a source of strong genes! She was happy to have him follow her out of the kitchen and into the hall. Where she found another Bronze awaiting her.
She knew this Bronze, yes. She remembered him. Not just because he'd been like a shadow the last few days, either. No, she remembered Azaran. She remembered that he had been a fine sire of healthy babies. Yes, very good. He, too, she welcomed into her wake. Even if he was trying to steer her in directions that she was not yet ready to go. She was going to go where she was going to go, shells and shards, regardless what some puny male thought! Even if said vocal male wasn't ... exactly ... puny...
Speaking of puny males! What was this?! It sounded like a worm, looked like a worm ... sortof ... but it was flying?! Insulting little snot that he was, Rose hissed a warning at him. On sheer principle of what he was saying. He had better watch his mouth or she'd rip his wings off for him! But she allowed him to persist for the moment if only out of sheer confusion. Was it a worm, or a real flitter? If that was a flitter, it was the ugliest flitter she'd ever laid eyes on! Between being a very ugly flitter and his apparent obsession with rape, his only redeeming feature was he was apparently good at the worship and at rounding up more worshipers for her. So yes ... he could follow too ... for the moment.
Rose dodged to one side to avoid colliding headlong into another male with clumsy looking huge sails for wings. Chirping a warning to watch where he stuck those things, she flew onward, to duck under the next table and arc back up toward the rafters for the first time. Looping up over the wooden beams, she twirled downward again, flicking her golden sails with a precision that drove her forward unwaveringly between obstacles that could break a wing at these speeds.
Thus far, all the followers that had responded had all been male. Which was right in its own way, but she had been summoning forcefully all flitters to adore her! She deserved not only the best, but all there was. She was Queen, they were all hers! When a green rose from the window to join in the games, Rose was finally satisfied. Her word still held significant sway, this was proof! And so agile too! Rose crooned to the agile little green in approval before cutting a hard looping spiral off to one side, changing directions with fluid grace.
Now, there had to be a way out of here. Somewhere she could lead her parade high into the sky for all to see. For all to adore and strike awe into the hearts of the doubtful. There! There was a way out! Rose streaked toward the dot of light, and just as she was preparing to shoot triumphantly into a burst of sunlight with a glittering fanfare followed by her loyalists, she instead bounced off the glass of the window, catapulted back into the room as a whole.
Tumbling haphazardly across a table where she landed, her flailing limbs sent dishes flying in all directions, spilling the hot and cold contents all over the chests and laps (and maybe a few faces too) of the people sitting there. Regaining proper orientation (as in upright), Rose leapt back into the air with a horrifyingly loud raucous call. How dare the sunlight repel her awesomeness?! How dare the sun refuse her?! Hissing and spitting in new fury, Rose tore around the room again, yanking hair on bared heads as she flew past them, knocking over basket of glows in a deliberate fit of destructive anger. She would show them. She would show them who was boss. Who was Queen!
Streaking away again, she charged the window again, determined to get outside this time. But a movement and a larger splash of light distracted her. The door! The door would allow her out. It always had before. It would not refuse her. Shooting out over the head of the startled patron entering the chaotic and noisy hall, Rose erupted finally into the glorious shine of the outdoors with a soft croon of approval for the faithful door.
Glittery wings beating quickly in the bright light, Rose headed for the canopy overhead where she flitted amongst the foliage there, over and under the woven branches, past clumps of lovely green leaves that offset her shimmery beauty so very nicely~
Time for her parade to really kick off!

The copper colored wildling strove to keep track of Rose even as he looped and winged out the rafters and Azaran. The movement had two purposes. One keep the gold’s attention and two if he kept moving the less likely he’d be marked as a wild one by the humans below and get impaled. Twisting around a beam the wild bronze gave a curious chirp to Casiloy as the little creature winged onto the scene making odd comments. Not understanding half of it the copper colored bronze trilled a question and watched as two more chasers joined. A darkly colored brown and then….was that a green? Why yes it was. The same confused little one who had joined him in Ghost’s flight not long before.
The copper flit’s attention was stolen by these new chasers for the briefest second before a call from Rose drew him back and he gave a brassy bugle. Then the queen of his heart was rising up towards the rafters and the wild bronze sang to her glory before he to looped the beam in a pattern directly opposite from her. Metallic wings flicked open and closed as the male angled around Azaran and gave him a dry hiss of challenge. Wings shut as he fell and twisted back closer to Rose and the humans. Only to give a squawk of concern as the golden one bounced off one of those strange clear barriers the humans were capable off. A chatter of concern met Rose as she raged at the window. Such anger she had and well deserved. Make them pay. With that he circled around the Hall watching Rose cause her destruction. He really wanted out of here. As if in response to that thought the magnificent Queen finally caught sight of the door and with impressive speed shot out of it.
With another loud call the copper bronze shot out after the Queen and her blazing light, dipping low to buzz the startled rider as well. As they exploded out into the sunlight and open air the wildling gave another glorious and loud call in honor of his queen. Smart beauty. Copper wings flashed in the bright sun as he briefly twirled in his exuberance and then dove into the foliage after Rose. This was where he would shine. Knew the jungles around this place like the back of his wing. Dipping under a branch violet eyes marked the blazing path she took against the greenery. Stunning.

Daniel took Rose's chiding chirp with a measure of grace, something that distinctly surprised Serissa, who was tracking the chaotic flight of the firelizards. The Brown wasn't usually one for any sort of grace - in fact, outside of Flight he absolutely would have drawn himself up and stalked off in a huff. But his eyes whirled a slow, muted lavender, and he answered Rose's croon with a quiet, apologetic one of his own. From a beauty such as this, any attention was good attention. So Daniel pulled up, staying carefully out of Rose's way. If he got in the way of some of the otehr chasers... well. That was to be expected, with so many males (and a green?) in the air.
He really couldn't do much inside, and Daniel wasn't much of one for pretty songs or fancy loops. Instead, he circled like a bird of prey, waiting for his chance. When she headed for the window, he pulled his wings in as much as he could, angling down towards the queen, and freedom.... but no! She had been repelled! It was only the Brown's quick reaction time that kept him from following Rose right into the glass. Instead, he barely managed to pull up, rolling away to return to the rafters. Wrong answer, poorly considered. He would be more cautious next time.
Rose's temper tantrum was greeted with a little calming hum from the Brown. She could throw a fit if she wanted; she was the Queen, he would forgive her anything. Yes, pull the hair, break the bowls. Just not Serissa's hair, she - ah, she was gone already. Ducked out the door while Rose tried the window, he supposed. Well, that was good, he wouldn't want her to be in danger. Now, to win the flight and get it over with...
Wait. Where was Rose? He'd lost her in the chaos! A lucky flash of gold near the door drew his attention, and the Brown dipped out the door at the back of the pack, happily stretching his wings now that he was in open air. They were still big, and his flight was still somewhat awkward, but he no longer looked like he'd run into things with every flap. With a few strokes he caught the pack again, following Rose off over the forest.

Oh look, right on cue. Azaran growled to himself as the copper Bronze decided to show his ugly face again. Stupid wilding, stupid Nemesis, he should stick to chasing Ghost. He was tempted to chitter angrily at the other male but in a last moment decision, decided not to. Everything he wanted to chide the Copper with had already been said, and the Wilding knew he disliked him and disliked him in return. He hoped copper wasn't stupid enough to forget that. He might be King of the jungle, but Azaran was King of the Weyr. The Bronze spared the male a scant few more of his precious attention before refocusing his attention on Rose. None of the other chasers deserved his attention, not even the Green who'd risen to the challenge. He knew of Haru and had already chased with her before, the Green posed no threat to him. Daniel might, but he would wait and see.
Azaran wheeled around to follow Rose, choosing not to fly as low as she was, he'd rather not chance clipping a wing or smashing into something. He wanted to chase and becoming injured would not be favored upon by the Queen. Copper swung past him with a hiss and Azaran returned it with one of his own. Bring it on. Right, speaking of Rose! He tracked Rose with curiosity when she headed for the window, what was she... oh! Wait his Queen! He trilled. Its not... Scrunching his face as the Gold bounced off of the glass forcefully enough to get repelled back onto a table, Azaran chirped. Was his Queen of beauty okay? Obviously she was, for she proceeded to cause even more havoc. The Bronze nearly squawked with warning as she started to charge the window again, tilting his wingsails to the left he glided around in a circle. He wasn't about to hit the window himself if he could help it.
Thankfully his Queen realized the door had been opened and shot toward it, the Bronze pumped his wings to follow, managing to slide in behind Daniel. The red curls of the Human elicited an immediate "duck!" response, His was the one who opened the door. Watching as the line of flitters zoomed over the head of a crouching His, he chirped a hello as he too passed over her. He got a wave in return. Pumping his wings harder now that they all had room, he sailed over the Brown he'd been following and angled toward the flitting shine of the Queen as she flew. Oh great, the canopy. What was with Queens and the canopy? If this had been any other time out side of a chase he would have sighed, but for now, he strengthened his resolve and plunged into the leaves after Rose. Looping here or wheeling there to avoid the branches. It wasn't fair, she was giving Copper an advantage. But alas! He would rise to the challenge as he always tried to do.

Haru swelled with pride. The other males might not be quivering in awe at 'his' presence, but Rose certainly appreciated 'him'. In the end, it hardly matter if the others realized their folly or not, so long as the queen could see that 'he' was the best. How could it not be true? 'He' was the fastest, strongest, and handsomest bronze on all of Pern, was 'he' not? Trilling loudly in both love for Rose's attention and challenge for the other males, Haru pushing 'himself' to 'his' limits.
Quick turns and graceful flight paths were easy for 'him' to follow. As Rose turned, Haru became a shadow in her wake. The window proved a problem though. Foolish window! How dare it block the way of the queen! Haru hissed furiously at the window and gave it a good slaw for good measure before bouncing off after Rose again. 'He' skidding down the length of the table, enjoying once more the game of dodging plates and food the queen upset on her way past. Could any other bronze match 'his' brilliance in this feat?
Freedom and the wide sky finally awaited them outside the door. Here Haru was more at a disadvantage, since the wide spaces meant a longer flight. Not that 'he' would notice or care in the slightest. If Rose wanted outside, than so did Haru. At least that door knew how to bow to the queen! Ducking under the arm of the hapless human, Haru charged outside with a high pitched roar of excitement. Among the branches and trees, 'his' body was almost invisible, but today 'he' wanted to be seen. Let the other males grow jealous of 'his' obviously superior skill!

Rose had not missed the animosity going on between her Bronzes ... and for a split second they might have thought that such infighting would incite her rage anew upon the males for not paying attention to her. But instead she ignored it ... for the moment. Her little mind was cranking along stowing that information away for later use.
All of her males successfully followed her out of the doorway and into the canopy ... well ... almost. She'd lost one. The loud one with the strange notion of nice things to say. The worm-notworm one. Oh well ... she only deserved the best after all! If he was not good enough to keep up, that was his loss and certainly not hers.
She hadn't lost nearly as many as she had initially thought, either. Her handsome, big-winged Brown had turned up again after all. Apparently he'd needed a different route to fit his well endowed pinions through? Silly boy, he wasn't any broader than she was, he just had a smaller frame to go between them. He was sweet though, and she crooned encouragement to him.
But now it was time to really turn on the challenges for her lovely parade. Rose looped through the foliage and branches, up, down, back and forth, round and round, closing her wings to twirl through smaller openings, all in general throwing every obstacle she could find at them to see how well they measured up ... all while having fun! One handled the branches better than all the rest, that little Green lady. Who was somehow pulling out all the stops just to keep up with the longer enduring flitters. Rose crooned approval to her little sister of the air, flattered that she would be working so very hard to honor her all without trying even once to steal her males from her. How sweet! Twirling to the side, she flittered about the little green, dancing with her through the foliage and giving the others a rather difficult time keeping up.
But that wildling seemed to have the tree well in hand ... that was no good. The obstacles needed to try all, not just some. Deviously, Rose changed up what she was doing again. With an almost morbid glee she worked the field through the blinding leaves until she managed to get the two bronzes together, and finally tried to cram them both into the same airspace. Just to see what would happen. To see what kind of sparks would fly, who would win? Clearly she intended to make a spectacle of the two who had it out for each other. All while gleefully looking on.
But no, this was not the only test she had for her faithful followers! Twirling about her sister-green and encouraging her to fly with her and make her look even more lovely, Rose headed upward again. Erupting from the canopy, she headed skyward. Clear air, height. She needed the sky, to be higher. To place herself as Queen of the stars as was her due right. Though this was going to be more of an endurance run than an agility and temperament test.

The copper wilding was most certainly in his element out here. No humans to cause him anxiety and plenty of chances to show what he could do. Twisting and looping over and through branches he took the time to flavor his flight with a couple of tricks and close calls here and there. Solely to show off his vast superiority to these human bonded ones. Now who was the best? He trilled back to Azaran as his copper wings flashed in the sunlight that broke through the jungle canopy. Twisting around another branch he trilled to Rose and powered after her with one thing on his mind. Being the one she chose.
When the gold burst through the actual foliage of the tree he followed her in kind. Wings beat double time as he exploded though the greenery, tearing leaves off the steams as he burst from one patch to another, always tailing her but never getting too close. If he noticed her careful manipulation of his direction the wildling gave no notice. Until suddenly he noticed a metallic shine to his left and hissed in displeasure at Azaran. Close his enemy was. Talons extended in warning but the wilding made no move to close on his adversary. Despite participating in may of the same flights neither bronze had ever struck at the other and the trend held true even today. The wilding considered Azaran his greatest rival and though he did by no means loved the other male he held grudging respect for him. That didn’t mean he was going to give ground though. Not at all.
Finally they exploded into open air again and the bronze wilding gave a bugle of challenge to his rival before putting his all into one final race for the glorious golden Rose. Up, up, up they headed and there was no way he was giving up on her now. No because he was the best and he was here to prove it to her.

Chirping as he used his momentum to shoot through a particularly small opening between two branches, Azaran caught himself with his wings as soon as he was through. Rose was certainly not making this easy for them in the least, not that he expected her to, but he'd been involved with tamer flights than this. Using his legs to bounce off of a tree and change direction, the Bronze did his best to follow a parallel path to Rose, not necessarily following directly behind her but not charging ahead of her either. Of course, with her crazy flight path, it was hard to keep a consistent distance from her. He often fell short, needing to double his speed to catch up with the Queen, or even Copper. Pinning his left wing to his side, he barrel rolled to avoid one of the other chasers, though he didn't notice which one it was, for they disappeared among the foliage soon after.
Another change in direction brought his rival almost a little too close for comfort. The flash of talons was returned with a display of his own and a show of teeth. The Bronze wasn't one for fighting unless it was necessary, either in protection or dominance, but he certainly wouldn't stoop so low as to initiate a fight in a flight. Now if Copper attacked him, he would retaliate, but despite his dislike for the other male... he felt they had come to a compromise long ago. A look but no touch accord. They could toss their aggression and displays of power back and forth, but never act on it. He assumed the Copper knew he could rally both Selenitas flitters and humans when they were at the Weyr, just like he knew the Copper could call on the aid of his fellow wildlings when they were outside the Weyrs.
Veering away from the other male, Azaran swung his weight upward, pumping his wings harder as they began to climb. As the leaves whipped past his face, the Bronze narrowed his eyes, reducing the chance of one or another actually making contact. He also knew that when he left the canopy the sunlight would blind him otherwise. Trilling as he broke free, Azaran adjusted his eyes before making his wings move double time. He had to catch up with Rose and surpass Copper, he wouldn't let that Bronze catch his Queen. He called out to Rose, his voice more smooth than the Wilding's rougher bugle. He had proven himself her knight already, would she not deign to again?

An encouraging croon! The brown returned it with a triumphant one of his own, although his quiet voice was still a whisper compared to the trumpeting and posturing of the Bronzes. It wasn't like Daniel needed it either, really; he would follow Rose until his wings fell off if he had to, although he'd rather not if it wasn't necessary. Still, it felt good to be acknowledged and supported, and not shunned. Some part of the brown had expected to be shunned, but no, Rose liked him. To be fair, she was letting the Green chase too, but, well, that was that.
Pretty soon, Daniel had to stop thinking and start paying attention to the trees as Rose led them along an increasingly challenging path. Her wingspan was wider even than his, true, but a proportionate body did wonders for the stability of flight. Wobbling around wasn't a good idea in the middle of a forest, not if you wanted to avoid catching a wingtip that was. He managed to keep up, but just barely; no displaying or posturing here, it was all he could do to keep from faceplanting into a tree. He almost did, once or twice. He did snag a wingtip here and there, and nearly took out Azaran, but quick thinking on both of their parts kept him from doing any lasting damage.
It ended up working in his favor, though; otherwise, he likely would have been caught in the small space with two Bronzes. As it was, he gave up when they started flashing teeth and talons, climbing above the canopy to burst through only seconds before Rose herself. Yes, of course he'd meant to do that, he totally knew where she was going. Looping back towards the gold, he found himself behind the Bronzes again (he had lost track of the little Green), but now his wings were finally helpful. Yes, they were still too big, they still got in the way, but they caught air. All he needed to do was catch a thermal, and his sails billowed out like parachutes, pulling him up into the air after the beautiful gold with far less effort on his part than flits with smaller wings would need. Excellent.
