Deceased: Died in Selenitas Earthquake Plot
Humans:
Name:Auryn
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Hetero
Rank: Beastcrafter Journeyman
Physical Appearance:She has shoulder blade length reddish blond hair that is somewhat wavy and can become very curly if she lets it dry before putting it up into a hair tie. her bangs are actually cut to her chin so they have a habit of coming out of the tie and can sometimes fall around her face. Her eyes are a grayish blue and are typically shaped. Auryn has a fairly small nose that sometimes adds to make her look younger.
She has only just filled into a womans figured body with just a bit of curve around her hips and stomach and has B-ish sized breasts. Her legs are fairly thick from many years of climbing around the mountains where she lived.
Auryn is almost always dressed in a cotton shirt and a wool vest or pullover that has a nice deep hood on it. Her skirts are a gray cotton skirt with blue embelishments and a gray and blue patterned skirt with goats on the bottom of it that her mother made for her when she was 18. It is one of her most prized posessions. She has shell earings that she bargained a wool scarf for with a trader from the south and a blue glass necklace that is always on a leather thong around her neck.
Personality: She grew up in the mountains and trees of the north and knows what it is like to wake up with no heat. Or to go out in the fields and realize that half of the life stock you had to feed you over the winter is dead. Living through such things has made Auryn a hearty contender for survival. Ever since she was a young girl she has stuck close to her fathers side and learned much about what it is like to run a large family of people and keep everyone at least placated if not happy all the time. She realizes the hard work that goes into everything that has to be done from cooking a meal to getting all the little ones in and ready for bed at night.
She respects the responsibilities that come in every day tasks and does not think badly of any job that has to be done great or small. Because with out any one of those jobs things might not run as smoothly as intended. She has learned how to keep her temper even when she is very displeased. Fighting never gets anyone anywhere and at best will get you a black eye. Something she learned time and time again from growing up around her cousins and watching them fight over petty things. The ways of the word and the thought are strong with in her and she would much rather speak her way out of a bind then ever have to engage in hand to hand combat.
On the whole and in every day interaction one could find Auryn's personality to be pleasant. she is generally in a very good mood, especially if everything is running smoothly which her and her father always tried very hard to make sure of. A simple thing such as a blooming flower or a bleet from a young goat will make her smile as she is very greatful for the smallest of things in life and takes nothing for granted. She revels in the thoughts and the feelings of Winter and the cold. She knows that it will bring Spring and new births and beginnings and always holds onto that feeling of hope and renewal.
Auryn always tries to keep an open mind about everything and will listen to many sides of a story before making her own opinion or thoughts on a matter known. She does not go into things making rash decisions and always wants to know more about things so that she can find better and more efficient ways of running a job or setting people to a task. She is wonderful at delegating work and does not allow herself to be bogged down.
History: Auryn grew up in a family of four. Mother, father, and a younger sister. Her and her sister were never very close until they were much older, but there was always the bond and trust of sisters between them. Auryns younger sister wanted to be just like her until Auryn started going off and working more with her father. Even her mother was not particularly thrilled with it. "tending goats is a man's job" Her mother would say. But Auryn would always find a way to get out of the watchful eyes of her mother and aunts and sneak off to the fields in the morning with her father and uncles. She loved being out in the wilds and being able to be out in the open sky when there was no thread to fear.
They had one flitt amongst all of them that belonged to her father and would always pop between to the Weyr in order to see when Thread was likely to show up. Their cot hold was after all beholden to Fort Hold, and they paid their proper tithe each year, but other than that they kept very much to themselves. Auryn would spend days and days outside watching the goats, noticing the small differences that made each goat different from the next one and learning how very much they were like people. They all needed some one to lead them and look after them. The ram they had was a good and sturdy creature and took very well to Auryn being around his females. So that was the deciding point that her father used in order to have her start training under him. Her father had trained for years under the beast crafting hall and was soon to go up for his Masters knots and could properly teach the young girl by himself with out sending her away to the beast craft hall.
He also taught her how to write and read and made sure that she was properly educated in other matters than the beast craft. As she grew Auryn's father how he ran the very small hold and how he kept everything livable and happy for his family. It was not easy, Auryn learned, to keep all those people as happy as they were. Luckily the small hold was built into the side of a mountain that one of the old Weyrs had all but given up on. Her father had dug deep enough to get water that ran through the hold and then out into the beast proper. They added hot stones heated from the fire to keep the water warm, or at least temperate through out the winter.
Auryn learned all of his tricks by the time she was 16 and her father started looking for a proper suitor for his daughter. Though the choice was always up to her. He would not have his daughter just married off to anyone. Especially knowing that she was smart and could take hold if the man fell ill. Many suitors came around at the request of her father but all were turned down by his strong and self assured daughter. He told her time and time again that she did not need a lover and that she was quite happy living and staying there with him and the rest of the family. This pleased her mother to no end as she did not want to see her oldest go just yet.
When a blue dragon appeared in the skies a while later the thoughts of marriage for Auryn had been all but banished from everyones minds. Auryn was out tending the goats and was very unpleased that her goats had been scattered and scared by the "idiotic large beast!" After a great deal of laughter from the man he finally calmed Auryn down enough to make her realize that they could not go far from their shepherd. Auryn still was not at all pleased by it until she heard why the big "dumb beast" had even landed in the first place. After blushing and crossing her arms the girls face finally softened and she finally began to listen. The rider did not come from Fort or Benden, but from another Weyr that was very far away from here and all the cold that it seemed to have. It took the blue rider nearly three hours to even make her consider the thought of becoming a dragon rider and that at Selenitas Weyr they did not pit dragon against dragon and did not want anything to do with the wars of the North. Auryn was pleased enough by these facts that she asked the blue rider back to the hold where everyone was able to fawn over the dragon rider which was more then an honorable guest in their house. The dragon rider spoke of a place of warmth and of friendly dragons that did not fight and everyone in the hold became almost more excited than Auryn. Her father highly approved and even tried to coerce the blue rider in being a possible suitor for his daughter. "That will be her dragons choice should she Impress Sir." The poor blue rider replied not really knowing what else to do or say. Especially since he did not know how the father would take the sometimes more promiscuously ways of Weyr life.
The next morning the pair were packed with enough clothing to last Auryn three winters and numerous small gifts for the blue rider to bring to Selenitas wonderful Weyrwoman and Weyrleader, along with a specially signed letter that thanked both of them for the chance for their daughter to stand on the sands....
