Deceased: Died in Selenitas Earthquake Plot
Humans:
Name: Talien
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Hetero
Rank: Wher Candidate
Physical Appearance: Tal stands at 5'11", a decent height and pretty much done his growing. He prides himself on keeping physically fit for his age, and spends enough time to make sure he stays that way. He has hair that is so dark brown it appears black most of the time. Only when he's in the sun for prolonged periods of time is it notable that it's actually dark, dark brown. His eyes are brown as well, a warm brown with darker outsides and lighter brown insides, not a plain brown like some. His skin is almost always tanned from being outdoors, even if he is in the woods a lot of the time.
Tal wears whatever is prudent for what he's doing at the time, and isn't particular about colors but brighter ones like purple or the like one won't catch him in. He prefers earthy colors like brown and green, and sometimes, though rarely, he'll wear white and often black.
Personality: Talien is wiser than his sixteen turns, and it does show when he talks. He's very easy to talk to, very honest and open and a 'what you see is what you get' sort. He's no flirt, and treats women just like he does men, unless he's interested and then he will flirt lightly and become more a 'best friend' first. He is quick to forgive and forget and yet if one offends him too horribly and doesn't apologize he can hold a grudge.
Tal likes being outdoors, and working out. He isn't the reading and writing sort, but he does like music although he never sings or has gotten into it seriously. Still, he does like it. He enjoys things like looking at the stars, being social and listening to his friends. He's more a social person who just enjoys life to the fullest. Even though he's a hunter, he still has a good respect for life. He just knows that it's the way of the world to eat and be eaten, and it doesn't bother him to get food for people.
He's a really good guy to have at your back, and a great friend. He tends to be a little quick to take action, and sometimes he's downright obnoxious, but he has a good sense of humor and is really just laid back for the most part. He doesn't like leadership, but he finds that when given it, he does really well with it. People look up to him a lot because he's a decent, genuine feeling person and they know he can be trusted. If he was with a girl he liked and she was taken, he would respect that. If a person left him with a room full of precious belongings, they'd all be there upon their return. That's just what kind of person Tal is: reliable and honest, an all around good person with good morals.
History: Tal grew up in Selenitas, a really decent sort of kid from the get go. His parents were a brownrider and greenrider, and so he was a Weyrbrat but never minded that. No, he was too busy being social and having a good time. He liked art and music but really never had the knack for either, so he ended up being realistic and looking at what he could do. Since he was in shape and the Weyr always needed fresh meat, he decided he could best be used as a hunter. He didn't fancy being a drudge or a kitchenworker, after all.
In Selenitas, things were constantly happening. Not always good things, either, and Tal simply tried to keep a cool head about it all. First off was Shmee, someone not in the line of Selenitas, impressing the gold instead of Sera's daughter. Of course, being a non-candidate or rider, it wasn't really so important. But everyone made such a huge deal over it, and he tried not to comment. Who cared, so long as the Weyr had another healthy gold?
Still, Fath ended up with egg again, and so he figured maybe Sera's daughter would impress then. However, that didn't happen, and the mutated clutch was absolutely a mess. He had been relatively disturbed since he was at that hatching, and to make matters worse, Fath had gone between, and now Shmee was the new Senior Weyrwoman. The Weyr was in an uproar, and Tal couldn't stand uncomfortable situations. Still, life went on and the queen was healthy enough and impressed. The culprit was caught and that was that...or so most thought.
When Keagan arrived, Tal was proud to have Shmee as the Weyr's Sr. Weyrwoman. He was all for taking her in--what Benden and Fort were at was horrible. He figured had he been in Shmee's shoes he wouldn't have hesitated to hide Kaegan either. However, it had horrible results...
Shmee was poisoned, and Tal was as upset as anyone else. That someone would poison her once was bad enough. She lost her baby and nearly died herself. And then, she did die by a poisoning and he mourned her in his own way. She'd been not such a good Weyrwoman at first. She was rumored to be an insufferable flirt, amongst other things. Still, she brought the Weyr together, went to Benden and came back a stronger, better Weyrwoman after seeing that. With her death, things were once again uncertain, and in a state of disrepair.
Benden attacked and killed Weyrlings, it was a massacre. There was nothing Tal could do, and though he was angry at Benden's actions, he just did his best to continue bringing in food for the people of his Weyr. He and his friends talked about what they'd do if they saw anyone from Benden within a thousand feet of the Weyr, but it was all talk--no one could do a thing save the dragonriders. It was at that point Tal would have liked to be a rider, just to take action and protect the people of the Weyr.
When flitters got sick and started dropping like flies, for a while Tal wondered if their kin, the dragons, would be affected. Many people were relieved when they were not, but Tal felt bad for those who'd lost their firelizards to what was then called 'The Firelizard Plague'. It passed, fortunately, but still those with flitts worried that it might come back, and Tal was glad he hadn't had one.
Hepaticath was the next gold to hatch and impress, much to everyone's delight. Even Tal was glad when that hatching and impression occured--Selenitas had yet another gold pairing, which meant more clutches and dragons for their Weyr. The more dragonriders, the better they might be able to defend themselves against Benden or other attacking Weyrs...like Benden and then Fort.
The Siege of Selenitas resulted in tons of deaths, and even Tal tried to help with bow and arrow to fend off Benden's people. It was an absolutely horrible massacre, one no one would soon forget--certainly not Tal. The stench of death and the horrors of it all made him sick to his stomach. It was just so wrong, so unnecessary. Would justice ever prevail?
Fort took over the main Hall, and Tal was rather infuriated by the injustice of it all. Selenitas had done nothing wrong, and they were suffering still. Yet, amongst all the bad things, Hepaticath flew and now there was going to be a clutch. Tal couldn't help but hope he might be Searched this time, yet hasn't been--not for a dragon.
Tal was always surrounded by friends, always a social butterfly who without realizing it had the ability to draw people together and to him, just because he had plenty of good charisma and was known for being a really good sort of guy. So he's led a nice life up to date, always showing respect to others and taking responsibility when he needed to. When he was asked to become a wher candidate, he replied favorably, but he still hunts for the Weyr even though he's now residing in the barracks and might one day bond.
