Deceased: Died in Selenitas Earthquake Plot
Humans:
Name:Nitsa
Age:15
Gender:Female
Sexual Orientation:Heterosexual
Rank:Candidate
Physical Appearance:
Nitsa’s eyes are hazel and almond-shaped, and her eyebrows are arched and intelligent-looking. Her hair is a cinnamon-y brown color, rather like klah. It is thick and wavy and usually worn loose. When worn that way, it reaches just past her shoulder blades. Nitsa’s build is nothing spectacular. She has healthy curves but is neither athletic nor really overweight. She can be called lean, though. She is of medium height, at around 5’6”, and not that spectacular either. She doesn’t perceive herself as lets-make-the-boys-drool attractive, but probably could be if she actually tried. If she had any jewelry, Nitsa wouldn’t wear it that often. It gets in the way too much . She laughs a lot, but doesn’t genuinely smile often.
Even though she spends a lot of time outside, Nitsa doesn’t tan. Instead, she has pale skin and lots and lots of freckles.. Her face is oval-shaped and strong-jawed, and looks rather androgynous except for her hair. Her most noticeable feature is her eyelids, which are rather heavy and are always partially covering her eyelids. Nitsa has things she likes and things she does not like. She will barely ever waver from the norm and avoid things she dislikes like a plague. Her favorite clothes are loose, airy ones: tunics, skirts, and on the rare occasion nothing at all (the VERY rare occasion. That was just an example.). The quality doesn’t really matter, as long as whatever she is wearing is clean. She insolubly cannot stand tight restrictive clothing like bodices and slacks.
Personality:
Nitsa dislikes lying. It leaves a bad taste in her mouth. Instead, she is frank about opinions and tries to be honest no matter what. Ask for an opinion and that’s exactly what you get. Ask a question and you might get more than you bargained for. She is not easily impressed by glamour or rank, and views everyone just the same. She is good with children, probably because she likes their straightforwardness like her own. Also, children easily take direction from those who are older than her. It appeals Nitsa’s bossy side.
Despite her penchant for directing and bossing children who don’t know any better than to follow her directions, Nitsa doesn’t like following directions herself. She doesn’t really like authority figures on principle. She can learn pretty well from teachers but is envious of those with real authority, leaders and such. She also doesn’t like when things are unfair. She will do whatever she can to intervene. These are the only times when she will actually speak up about opinions without being asked.
Most of Nitsa’s emotions present themselves strongly, but feelings about people like love or hate or disdain or anger will show themselves right away. Her least apparent feeling is guilt. She will rarely feel remorse for something she has done, as she knows that she did it for a reason. If others don’t see that, fine. That is their problem, not hers. She was an independent mindset and will talk herself into doing something before she lets someone else do it for her.
Nitsa is adventurous. She loves the outdoors and doing things that might, maybe be dangerous, just for the thrills. Her favorite passtime is swimming. She also likes doing anything new to her. She is easy to offend because she has a humongous capacity for vanity and narcicism. She is also strong-spirited and fun loving. One of her strengths is her intelligence. She knows her numbers and letters and everything. That intelligence can also be turned towards more destructive things when she is bored.
History:
Nitsa’s mother and father were both small-scale holders at the same cothold. It was small and under Selenitas’s protection, turns before it had resided under Southern. It was nearest Southern Hold. They didn’t really know what was going on at the Weyr unless it directly affected them in some way. They fell in love. Nimarla was a headstrong woman and Tannsyl was perfectly happy to accept that. He wasn’t the strongest-willed of men, and Nimarla complimented that. So the other Holders didn’t approve of such a woman. Tannsyl was in love. Their first three children were boys: Nitan, Arly, and Lassyl were born a year apart, and their baby sister was born three years later.
Nitsa was doted upon by her mother as the only daughter and argued a lot with her brothers until they were strong enough to beat her at every fight they got into. That happened surprisingly late in their life, but then again Arly had always been a wuss. The cothold she lived in was isolated, so she got to know everyone really well and disliked any newness. She was taught to read, write, and do arithmetic by a harper uncle. She can also tack a runner satisfactorily relatively quickly. Her family was not really poor, but there wasn’t much to spend extra Marks on.
There were few incidents in her early life where the Weyr had anything to do with it, and these were vague and really not anything most children of eight would be interested in. There was some talk about “changes” and how the hold would handle them. From what Nitsa could gather, there was a shake-up of Weyr administration and changes in tithing. Her parents never said whether that was a good thing or a bad thing, but Nitsa-the-child ignored it as something that couldn’t affect her or her playtime with her friends.
The most important even in Nitsa’s life happened when she was thirteen, two turns ago. It seemed that some politics deserved attention after all. When the dragonrider landed, nobody thought anything of it. Nitsa was off gathering greens and her mother went out to see who would want to stop at their small settlement. She didn’t like the tone he took with her, and got in an argument. She was killed for her insolence. Her daughter would only find out that the rider was from Fort turns later. The man was there to take a look at the abundant resources that places somewhat removed from the watchful eye of Selenitas, and was offended by the upstart woman’s commanding manner.
It was all cleaned up by the time Nitsa returned, and she was kept in the dark about the circumstances around her mothers death because she was the baby. However, secrets are not really safe in small communities, and eventually she found out. She thinks that she can do something to right this wrong. She just doesn’t know what. Nitsa was close to her mother, and hold life was bound to get boring sometime. It was around the time that major news of the seige arrived when she seriously considered joining Selenitas for the first time. After all, if a Fort rider had come, a Selenitas Searchrider wasn't out of the question either.
