Humans:
Name: Kahrelir (kah RELL eer)
Age: 2 ½ turns
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: -
Rank: Weyrbrat
Physical Appearance: Even for a toddler, Kahrelir is absolutely tiny; it’s the most noticeable feature he has. He’s very small, and his face is much thinner than the average baby’s, though not so much as to appear unhealthy. He has a small, sloping nose that will doubtlessly shape into a straight one in adulthood, and if his baby face is anything to indicate, when he grows up he will have large eyes. His legs are abnormally long, perhaps indication that in adulthood he will be on the tall side - a stark contrast to both his mother and his father. He also has abnormally long fingers for a child of his age, allowing him to grip and grasp things that most babies would drop continually - like a salamandyr or a fire lizard. Over-all, he is extremely healthy; far from neglected, despite the thinning face, and as he grows into his limbs, he’ll rapidly become a beanpole.
Jet black hair splays around his face, a vivid contrast to his naturally very pale skin. The strands are ironing board straight and would remain so even if they were given some length. Unlike his father’s messy mop, Kahrelir has perfectly behaved hair that is cut to stay out of his eyes, but for a baby of his age, it might be best described as ‘long.’ The strands have natural dark highlights, but his hair would never be mistaken for anything but ebony. The eyes, however, are all his father’s - wide, with thick lashes, his iris is a shade of amber so remarkable that ‘yellow’ might be a more accurate color description. Light touches of brown like flecks spread out from the pupil, giving him an almost cat-like gaze that can be penetrating, particularly in a child as young as he is.
Personality: Ridiculously quiet is Kahrelir - so much so that it’s very easy to overlook his presence entirely. In fact, the word ‘mute’ would be an accurate way to describe the child. Though he is capable of making noises, like crying and fussing, he typically does not do so. The only noise he makes with any regularity is laughter, and even then he only does this around people he trusts the most - like his father, or frequent visitors. He’s simply not a loud child, and caring for him takes extra attention, because he’ll never squall like most kids his age; he doesn’t beg, cry, fuss or creel for attention, food, or anything of the sort. The lack of these behaviors can make him seem like an exceptionally well-behaved child and - well, he is. Kahrelir doesn’t do very many things that could be considered ‘misbehaving’ even by the most judgmental adult. He is, simply put, very pleasant to be around.
His major defining flaw is his shyness. Kahrelir can’t stand to be held by strangers, and it takes him a very long time to adjust to people he hasn’t been conditioned to be around. The only person he trusts without hesitation is his father, and when he is away from K’lir, he can be a very squirmy child. Body language is his method of communicating and his version of crying is squirming and making faces; sometimes he’ll go so far as to cry silent tears, but never the loud, obnoxious bawling that many toddlers favor. He outright will not make a peep if K’lir is not present, and he finds strangers - particularly adults - terrifying; he’s more likely to bury his face in someone’s chest than ever allow them to hold him. There are rare exceptions to this, but most of the time, the little boy just is not a people person. And he is most definitely a daddy’s boy.
Despite not speaking, Kahrelir could never be mistaken for unintelligent. He is very good at problem solving and at two he is fully capable of wandering around on his own two feet. He is also capable of climbing onto things his father may or may not want him on and he knows exactly how to open trunks, cabinets, and drawers. He also is smart enough to close them if he’s not supposed to get into them. He’s a very mobile child, most emphasized when he’s alone with K’lir, and he’s extremely fond of salamandyrs. Much of that stems from being around his father’s pet so often, but there has never been a salamandyr he did not think the world of. It isn’t uncommon to see Kahrelir carrying Showoff around, and he’s gentle enough to avoid hurting the little bronze - something most children his age are incapable of. In private, it becomes very obvious that Kahrelir is a mostly-normal boy. He just doesn’t have anything to say.
History: Sometimes, two unexpected people end up coming together among the strangest of circumstances. Beka of Blue Thoth and K’lir of Green Calistoth were two such individuals. Something of friends prior to their Impression, the pair ended up becoming close throughout Weyrling training due to their dragons liking one another. Both weyrlingriders had an antisocial demeanor that many would deem unpleasant - but the two of them struck up a very good friendship… and their dragons became ridiculously close. It should have been a warning to them both that destiny had more in store for them, considering that Calistoth absolutely did not get along with anyone very well - but just how much more would not be seen until the pair was close to graduating from Weyrling Lessons entirely, and Calistoth reached physical maturity. She Rose in the middle of the afternoon, only a few days before her dam Rose a second time, and the green was caught by Beka’s Thoth.
Kahrelir was conceived that day - and to his father, he was a miracle child; despite his mother going between for weyrling lessons, Kahrelir was born a healthy, even happy baby. The relationship between his parents was one of friendship, and the early weeks of his life were comical - neither of them knew how to raise a child, and neither was entirely ready. Nevertheless, despite having two barely-seventeen-turn-old parents, he managed to survive, even flourish. When he was old enough to turn over on his own, he went to live with his father, while his mother came to visit him regularly, and he was never neglected by any stretch of the imagination. Because he didn’t cry or fuss the way most babies would, his father ended up becoming more observant to understand his needs - and in the process, the little boy developed a very strong bond with him.
It was, perhaps, fortunate for Kahrelir that he did develop such a heavy connection to his father, for his mother was killed in the Siege of Selenitas - leaving him with only one parent. Too young to understand, he spent the two months after Beka’s death walking over toward Calistoth and make clapping noises - his signal for Thoth’s arrival. Slowly, the clapping died off - and he came to accept that Thoth was never coming back, and neither was his mama.
