((I'm hoping to have her start up with a Search thread so I've put in here that she is a Candidate even though she is not one yet. Hope thats okay?))
Humans:
Name: Bevany, nick name: Beva
Age: 16 (June, 2999)
Gender:female
Sexual Orientation:heterosexual
Rank: Candidate
Physical Appearance:
(Face Claim: Emilie de Ravin)
The young woman has her mother's blonde hair that is neither straight nor curly but somewhere in between. Despite her grandma-ma's constant irritation at never brushing the mess of hair that hangs to her mid back; she continues to ignore her hair so it often looks disheveled. Her pallor is pale though her forearms and shoulders tan in the sun, everything else tends to burn, leaving her with many sun spots. In the winter freckles fade while sunspots remain as visible as they were in the summer. As she hates to burn, Bevany wears shirts that come to her elbow and often wears a hat when outside (strange as she may look in it).
Her heart shaped face culminates in a smallish chin. With a slightly squared jaw which she got from her father and her high cheekbones, her face is easily distinguished in a crowd. Her eyes are the blue of a deep sea and often hold a far off look to them. They are large although not too large for her face and in the shape of a walnut. Light brown eyelashes frame her eyes which are long but not thick. Also her well groomed eyebrows (which her grandma-ma forces her to maintain under penalty of being kept indoors forever) are thin and shaped well for her face.
Tall for a woman, she stands around 5'11”. Her build is one of a maiden, having no real bust to speak of and little more than that on her backside. Thin but not frail she is used to having to do heavy labor. Bevany's tall frame and thin body give her a willowy look as if she would fall over if someone were to push her. However there is strength in the frail looking woman. Her father often comments on her beautiful hands, which look as if they were meant for Harper's work. Her fingers are long, thin and quite dexterous though she has calloused them from farming.
Bevany generally wears a white tunic with sleeves that come to her elbows, a pair of her father's working pants generally dark brown and loose. She has working boots and sandals, though she prefers not to wear shoes at all. When working in the mud or in bad weather she will wear boots. Sandals are more for lounging about. She generally ties her hair back in a ponytail though sometimes her grandma-ma will braid it. She wears a brimmed tan colored hat when its sunny, particularly in the summer and a bandanna type cloth around her neck which is a light tan color. (Her family does not pay for expensively dyed clothes even if they can afford it they have no need of such finery)
Personality:
Born at the expense of her mother's life, the only child has been doted upon all her life. Every whim, every desire fulfilled by her father and grandparents. She is not one to linger on the dark things in the world. In fact she is quite naive as to the happenings of Pern. She knows there is a war but it has yet to affect her in any way. Bevany has been kept safe in the small farming community outside of Blossom Hold proper.
She is sweet and kind, though a bit odd. She says things in the middle of conversations that have seemingly nothing to do with the topic of conversation. There is an otherworldly dreaminess to her at times, as if she is far away. Her mind is quicker than a whip though and it is not uncommon for people to later on realize why she seemingly said something off topic. She was simply several steps ahead of them in the conversation. Living a simple life does not make one simple. While she has known the life of a farmer, she has been educated in reading a writing.
Her kindness comes out most when she knows other people are in emotional pain. For some reason she can almost sense other people's emotions simply by being near them. Empathy is not lost on some people and obviously its very strong within her. She has a knack for brightening people's moods when they are at the grimmest. For that, despite her oddness most people try to treat her kindly. (Her peers excluded)
Although she should be inside, helping her grandma-ma cook and clean, she prefers spending time out of doors, helping her father with some of the growing of the vegetables and fruits they grow and then wandering off to do whatever she is in the mood for. Bevany follows her own tune. She acts on her own whims and less on the orders of others. It is not that she has a problem with authority its that she simply doesn't see why what someone else wants her to do should be more important than what she feels is the right thing to do in the moment.
Free spirited, her actions are about as down to earth as a bird in flight. Her worst fear would be to have her freedom stripped from her, to live the life of a caged bird or wild thing. A cage would drive her insane. She is not afraid to think differently than the others of her Hold which cause her peers to ostracize her even more.
Despite being a little off, her family loves her to distraction. She is well adjusted to the world and no one has ever blamed her for her mother's death. Her grandma-ma is the person with whom she is closest and often the person she turns to for advice. Wisdom is not a gift many people have but her grandma-ma has more than any person should. Whenever Bevany feels lonely she runs off into the green countryside and loses herself to the beauty of the world and the animals within it.
History:
The trials and tribulations of a woman who has a hard time becoming pregnant was uncommon in one so young. Married at the age of 22 and 19 perspectively, Berten and Davany were troubled with a barren life. They tried for Turns to no avail and had finally accepted that life for them would be childless when Davany announced she was pregnant at the age of 32. They spent months preparing for their new life and Davany's mother and father came to live with them to help take care of things whilst Davany was made to rest. On a beautiful summer morning, Bevany was brought into the world. It was the best day of her parent's lives and the most tragic. Her mother was not well during the pregnancy and while lucky to produce a baby, probably never should have. She lost her life to have the baby she always wanted.
Her grandma-ma brought her to Blossom Hold proper to find a milk mother. They could afford one and in fact her father would have paid anything to keep Bevany alive. Able to find one and on short notice they took the underprivileged and hold less woman into their home with her two children, the baby girl and two turn old boy. While she was with them she was part of the family and in fact when she was no longer needed they helped her find someone to join with and work a farm with. A happy ending for her at least.
Bevany's father would never rejoin with anyone. He felt joy only in the existence of his daughter. As such she was spoiled in the ways single children often are. Her wants as a young girl were all fulfilled. If her father asked her to stay inside and she wanted out, he gave in. Luckily, her temperament never seemed to be one that was hurtful or bossy. She simply wanted what she wanted, when she wanted it! As she grew older these demands lessened. She was always an independent child and even at the young age of five would try to wander from the farm. Her father was always quite stern about her wandering away but he could not keep her locked away in their farming cot-hold forever.
He knew more of what was happening in the world than he wanted to admit to her. There were horrible things out there, things he wanted to protect her from. She of course was a naive girl and no amount of persuasion would keep her home if she wanted to explore. Expeditions of her own imagining had her roaming the countryside with some of the nearby holder children. Unfortunately her lack of social skills and the fact that she was always quite distant from everyone soon had her being the butt of their jokes. So it was that she stopped joining them in their games. She began to seek out her grandma-ma for advice and conversation soon after.
Her life was spent in the rural area where her father's cot-hold lay. To her the place was perfect and she could think of no better place to be. Her father's protective nature did not drive her away as much as it probably could have because she understood where he was coming from although she highly doubted there was much to fear in Blossom Hold. Her perfect little world was untouched by the troubles of the Weyrs. The war was not real to her as she had not been affected by it though her father did bring it up at times to make her stay closer to home.
Of course when Blossom Hold had to send aid to the Weyr when it was attacked by Benden and then by Fort, she became a little more aware of the dangers of the world. Still she figured she was of no value to those people. All they cared about was dominion over the things around them. She'd not get in their way and they wouldn't get in hers.
The only way she would truly believe that such dark things were occurring would be to see them herself. She knows that the Weyrleadership has been changing quite frequently though only because her father informs her of events she really doesn't know are important. Bevany probably needs a wake up call from her somewhat privileged, free lifestyle. Thread and war seem to mean nothing to her other than the fact they are nuisances to the dragonriders. However, as she recalls, dragonriders are sworn to protect Pern and hence they are doing their job. She would continue to do hers, helping her father so that they could properly tithe first to their Lord Holder who would then tithe to the Weyr.
Despite trying to be a good daughter Bevany finds herself wandering a little farther from home and a little closer to the main Hold of Blossom every day. An adventure would be wonderful, or so she thinks. The world to her is fair, kind and just she has no idea that her world is about to change...whether for the worse or for the better.
