Killed In Fort Attack
Name: Uu'n (YOON)
Age: 22
Gender: male
Sexual Orientation: heterosexual
Rank: Bluerider, head of Night Watch
Physical Appearance: Of moderate height, at 5'9", Uu'n is nonetheless something of a commanding figure. His body is defined by muscle, from powerful legs and arms to a solid chest and a slim waist. Odd scars mark his shoulders, the legacy of rope-burns in his youth from hauling firestone up out of the mines. His face is handsome, though thin, and close-cropped blond hair hints at a curly mop he might have borne at one time. His eyes are a curious amber color, a richer chocolate base accenting the brightness of his eyes. Large hands are rough with callus, the nails carefully trimmed but often stained black near the bases, a mark of the work he once did. A similar legacy is his pale skin, a result of spending little time aboveground for years.
When he was Searched, Uu'n no longer had to dress as a miner, and began wearing less harsh clothing. Though he rarely smiles still, he is very expressive, from tenderness to anger and even cruelty. He prefers dark clothing, and especially a long coat, dark-stained leather, which comes to about the back of his knees. As a tribute to his heritage, Uu'n started painting his nails black as the stain grew out, to remind not only himself, but everyone else, that he comes from the dark underground.
Scars: slash on right shoulderblade: knifefight vs. M'rgon
slash across back of neck: knifefight vs. M'rgon
heavy slashes - left shoulder to right collarbone, two across ribs, across stomach: swiped by Benden green weyrling dragon in a knive vs. dragon fight
scars across top of both shoulders: ropeburn from hauling minecarts
split in right eyebrow: fist to the face
small dots in left ear, top: bitten by gold salamandyr Daeluunya
small cut on left cheek: mystery
Personality: Something of a trickster, Uu'n is often blamed for people’s problems, and indeed makes a rather good scapegoat as he usually only fights back verbally, though he is strong enough to do some serious damage if he chose to fight. He is loyal to a fault, and even the deepest of betrayals would not be enough to make him turn his back on one that he loved.
Uu'n seems to have the ability to make people either hate or love him, and is not below lying to get his way. He can be something of a loner, but prefers to have some people to back him up, even if they are more akin to enemies than friends. Fully aware that some people see those who lived in the mines as weird and somewhat creepy, he occasionally refers to himself as a monster, and even he himself is not sure whether or not he means it. He enjoys startling people, and gets a good laugh when people do dumb stuff to each other, but is a hard worker, in his own way. He’ll twist rules and words at his own whim, and is rather decent at verbal fencing and bargaining as a result.
History: Born underground, in a worked-out tunnel, Uuvaenan has been poor his entire life. His parents were from a long line of miners, but poor enough not to even be holders or anysort, with no stake in the mine besides what they were paid. Most of his siblings died in the harsh environment of the mines, but Uuvaenan was one of the few that survived, learning the tunnels and mineshafts better than some of the adult miners who had dug them. As a young boy, his mother died from a cave-in, and he hardly remembers her anymore. Indeed, Uuvaenan was raised more by the older children than by either of his parents, for poor miners tend to die young. By nine he was an orphan, but truly, he’d been an orphan with phantom parents once he’d been weaned and passed to the first available Nursie.
Like the rest of the children born in the mines, Uuvaenan suffered quite a few diseases, but he managed to survive, and even grow strong, taking the advice of some of the older mine-children and eating noxious stews of weeds and dead creatures to build up his strength. It worked, and he lived on, building muscle and power as he worked as a human burdenbeast in the mines, hauling firestone and coal, and moving from mine to mine as veins wore thin. Eventually, at a firestone mine, a Searchrider come to pick up firestone for the Weyr found the young man, and took him along with the firestone. The Masterminer was none too pleased to lose well-trained labor, but it was hard to argue with a very insistent blue dragon, and Uuvaenan found himself at Selenitas for the Hatching, the day before its occurence.
At the Hatching, Uuvaenan found himself in the shadows near the edge, not really wanting to even be on the Sands anymore--he didn't feel as if he belonged. And when Adith Hatched from an unnoticed egg, a photophobe and the first of the visibly odd dragons, it was Uuvaenan he chose, changing the young man's life forever and giving him the name "Uu'n."
As Adith grew, Uu'n found himself wishing, just a little, for human companionship. But his odd schedule--going to sleep early in the afternoon and waking once night had set in and dinner nearly passed--prevented most human contact for the young weyrling, and his clingy dragon was always worried that he would be forgotten if Uu'n had too much human companionship. So it was extraordinary luck that found him at a flitter Hatching, where he managed to Impress... something. Certainly not a flitter. Naming the lovely gold creature Daeluunya, after his mother, who he recalled as being beautiful with golden hair, Uu'n retreated once again to the night.
Her first Run came as quite a shock to Uu'n, and shook both the weyrling and his dragon, though both recovered fine from the intense emotions Dael's Run brought to the both of them. She Clutched a fine group of eggs, though they were small, and settled to guarding them as fiercely as any dragon.
All seemed well until a weyrling lesson was called, during Threadfall. Instructed to leave their dragons in the weyrs, the weyrlings innocently walked into a deadly trap laid by Benden. A brownrider named M'rgon and a cadre of riders from Benden attacked and killed many of the weyrlings, mentally and physically torturing them all. Though they called for help, none could come--the fighters in the sky were under attack, as well. The slaughter took many of the weyrlings, including the gold weyrling, before Uu'n and others managed to get free.
With weyrling dragons flying to their aid, the weyrlings attacked back, killing some of the men--but not enough. The distraction of Adith and Phremath's arrival allowed Uu'n to get close enough to tackle M'rgon, engaging the man in a battle to the death. Losing his dirk in the melee, Uu'n received a deep slash across his ribs and a stab that cracked his left shoulderblade, chipping away a piece, and was nearly paralyzed by a knife-strike to the back of the neck, though the blade (luckily) hit vertebrae instead of slipping between two. The fight ended with Uu'n's victory, though it was hard-won, and the blueweyrling nearly had to be carried to the Infirmary, passing out from bloodloss shortly after getting back to the Weyr.
He healed as quickly as could be expected, escaping the clutches of the Healers to return to his own Weyr, spending the convalescene stitching together a four-fold "doorway" of furs for his weyr, the outer layer in a sunburst pattern, copied in reverse on the inside layer. Weights in the bottom of the "curtains" kept them from blowing, and as the four panels to every layer overlapped, little light filtered in to hurt Adith's eyes.
Dael's Clutch soon Hatched. Despite the salamandyr-flitter pairing (though Dael herself came from a flitter Clutch), it Hatched successfully, mostly flitters but with some salamandyrs. Oddly enough, there was little evidence of cross-breeding, except for a general trend in the hatchlings towards smaller size and smaller wings. All seemed healthy enough, and Daeluunya found the new-made "furway" quite to her satisfaction as a home, and moved in, keeping it clean of insects--enough of them roosted in the folds to make feeding Dael almost unnecessary!
Together, Uu'n and Adith increased how much they were training, observing the hunting-birds and those they hunted, firelizards in flight and Flight, and the night-hawks, as well as trained dragons, and adding to the regime. Uu'n slowly built up endurance muscle through running, climbing, and swimming to exhaustion, often dashing to keep pace with Adith's bounding runs. The dragon, too, trained with running and climbing, though he refused to swim, keeping wary guard over His instead. And together--they flew.
With nobody to tell them what was impossible, Adith and Uu'n started picking up some rather dangerous tricks, though they were careful not to push too hard. But when danger came... well, the bluepair was going to be trained for aerial combat and evasion, for though they might never be able to fly in a Thread-fighting Wing, they certainly could--and would--be the nighttime guardians. And perhaps, with whers on the way, there could be a night-trained Wing, with a dragon at the fore.
Dael's second Run was not as hard for the pair, not with Adith mature. To be met by K'lir of green Calistoth was a bit of an unwelcome surprise--as was the soreness which would the mark of her Runs ever after! But Uu'n and K'lir became friends of a sort, even while Uu'n caught himself dreaming about Kalierre, who's green Phremath was the eternal object of Adith's affections, tiny wings and all. And as time went by, Uu'n even found himself warming to K'lir.
Adith's losses in Phremath's Flights were devastating for the dragon. He finally threw himself into another Flight, one late in the day: Toryth, who had Chosed Ciara. All Uu'n remembered of the rider was how much she had screamed during the Weyrling Massacre; she was "The Screaming One." His initial impressions were only reinforced when she woke up after the Flight. He was quite willing to vanish from her life forever... until it was discovered that she was pregnant, having been unable to between due to Toryth's sprained leg.
Uu'n threw himself into starting the Night Watch, but gained a tropical disease after being bitten by one of the night-flying pests. He spent four months gravely ill, slowly recovering and beginning to retrain his muscles. The Night Watch was on standstill without him pushing it along, and he fought to regain his strength from the legacy of the disease. Then, of course, Ciara gave birth: a lovely baby girl, who Toryth named Caevaniara. Uu'n was impressed the dragon had remembered his full name, as he had expected some monstrosity of a name like Cuunira (the poor child).

Dragon Name: Adith
Nicknames (by Uu'n): Di, Addy, Silverwings
Color: blue (violet hue)
Age: 4
Appearance: Adith is very graceful. His long wings are finely boned, with a shallow foresail and narrow tips, which can give him something of the look of a Terran falcon. His talons are mostly the normal dark black, but a few have marbled ivory tones, and his hindtalons on the left hindlimb are all a pale butter-ivory color. His limbs are well-proportioned, with a narrow tail and a delicately formed face. Adith's backridge is more visible than many other dragons', and angled closer to the horizontal in notches, rather than the vertical.
His hide is a lovely blue-violet, with a blaze of darker blue running up the center of his face and spilling down across his right eye. A few pale speckles mark his chest, and a few more on his rump, but his left hindfoot is a periwinkle color, with a few intruding spots the color of his hide. His wingsails are a shade paler on the bottom, with almost a silvery sheen, but it is difficult to see unless hit with light, which for this dragon is rare.
For he is incredibly photosensitive. Unlike whers, who are heat-sensitive, even the light of glows sends him cringing, and in the daytime, if he must venture outside, he must be carefully blindfolded. As a result, he tends to be nocturnal, a habit his rider doesn't exactly mind. Recently, Uu'n and the glasscrafters who make riding-goggles devised a pair of dragon-goggles out of shiny black bubbles of glass. The let him see in daylight, though direct light still requires the blindfold, but unfortunately make him look like an overgrown bluefly.
Personality: Adith is something of a clingy dragon. Ignored by his mother even as an eggling, he is fiercly attached to Uu'n, and in no way will let anyone hurt him or try to steal him away, something with will get tricky if Uu'n ever wants more than casual friends. However, he is playful, as many blues tend to be, and very poetic. He loves to hear His sing, though the rider professes to have no skill, and loves hearing Harpers whenever possible, to the point where as a small dragon he will bully Uu'n into taking him to Feasts whenever possible, though he must be blindfolded.
With a decent memory for a blue, Adith likes to learn song and make up songs of his own, humming to himself quite a bit. At first rather terrible and tuneless, with practice he might actually become good. Though not afraid of relationships, Adith feels that Uu'n is the only friend he needs--ever--and tends not to be the most sociable of blues. He hates being taunted, and unlike Uu'n, who makes words his weapons, Adith is not above being physically violent, even to other dragons, and is unabashed about it. He loves the twilight, which is about as bright as he can stand, and tends to say curious things, usually in dragonlogic so odd even Uu'n has trouble arguing.
For some reason, Adith absolutely hates water. While he loves being scrubbed, getting in water is ceratinly not one of his favored activities, and he will put up quite a fight whenever Uu'n tries to bathe him, convinced the river is going to carry him off. He even distrusts still water, as even the still-looking pools of the river have mighty under-currents.
Name: Visk
Species: Slasher
Gender: Male
Age: would be 8
Name: Daeluunya, nickname Dael (DAY-uh-LOO-nyuh; DAY-uhl)
Species: Salamandyr
Age: 3
Color: gold
Appearance: This creature is small, about the size of a green flitter hatchling, so she is expected to grow to the size of an adult green flitter. Her long tail has soft, flexible ribs along it, and she seems to like them stroked. She is a deep golden color, with darker tones at her joints to give her an aged appeal even though she is young. The frill on her neck, when open, has almost bronzy marking in what could be considered an intricate tribal pattern. Her extraordinarily long tail, too, has similar markings, but more spaced out than that on her frill.
Personality: She is a queen, and nobody better dare cross her. Even those disgusting flitters better leave her alone, because she is the true queen. The only draconic thing she will ever obey is a queen or bronze dragon, and grudgingly at that. They are the only things on the planet to instill fear in her. Not even people from Benden or Fort will scare this little beauty. Instead, she would sooner attack them than let them scare her bonded!
Sheer devotion is what she gives Uu’n. She won’t even let Adith get in the way of her relationship with her humanthing, and may wander off and steal things just for him. It will take a long time for her to like Adith, but she may bond with him in the future, and possibly could truly like him someday.
