Danar laughed at Pasine’s comment. “No I am not implying you are a lesbian.” His eyes sparkled merrily. “As if, you are to girly for that.” He ran a hand through his hair absentmindedly as she continued. “No girl friends well that sucks. Haven’t you tried to talk to any of them? I mean you all sleep in the same quarters.” He paused “As for boys I hang out with there are a couple on occasion, but nah no best bud or anything like that.” He grinned at her. He quite liked this girl. She wasn’t full of herself. That was a nice change of pace.
“So what do you think about the candidate master quitting? Sucks for you hold bred candidates I bet. I don’t mind so much cause my mother was a rider so I know plenty about dragons. If you want I could answer any questions you have.” Danar straightened up and brushed some crumbs off his pants. He wanted to get to know her better and if tutoring her was a way to do it he had no complaints. After all why not help out a fellow candidate?

Well, she did know she was feminine, with outfits like petticoats, dresses and blouses there was no denying that, but girly? She wouldn't exactly call herself innocent or carefree, like how she envisioned girly. Even as a girl she hadn't been girly. The question was if Danar was trying to express himself and failing again, or if he truly thought she was innocent and the like. As she was trying to figure it out again he began talking,
Shards, he just wouldn’t let the hold thing drop, would he? There was a silence as Danar stood and she desperately tried to find a way out of the question without really answering. There probably was a way, but she couldn’t find it, or perhaps wasn’t creative enough to come up with one. She thanked Faranth that her eyes always looked watery, otherwise the melancholy emotions that were swirling in her right now might’ve been painfully obvious. “They snore,” She blurted for lack of a better excuse. JaysshardsofFaranth. Why was she suddenly so awkward? It was so unlike her… Curse Danar, he must be the cause!
“Well, if he quit then he must not have been fit for the job,” she shrugged with a controlled voice, “I would rather have no information than the wrong information. And also the right information over the no information.” Though she disliked having to be lead into the motion, Pasine stood and smoothed out the crinkles in her clothing. “Oh, your mother was a rider?” That explained a lot. “Certianly, I’d be delighted if you would tutor me!”
This time it wasn’t niceties; the idea of finally getting some answers genuinely appealed to her. After flashing the warmest smile she had yet to flash to Danar, she bent over to look for her shoes beneath the bench. Jays, where did they go? She didn’t kick them that hard.

Danar had to laugh at Pasine’s comment about the Candidate master. He couldn’t fault her for automatically assuming the position had been held by a male but having met Kemma on occasion it struck him as funny that she was being pegged as a male. “The Candidate master was Kemma of Green Mellith she was very well informed and a great teacher. She had to quit because of an accident. She fell from a considerable height when her flight straps broke.” He shook his head before continuing in a quieter tone. “There are those who suspect that the straps were cut on purpose but by who no one knows. Kemma was well liked I can’t think of anyone in the weyr that would do such a thing.”
Danar glared out over the grounds. It was true he couldn’t think of anyone who resided in the weyr who disliked Kemma enough to possibly attempt murder. He was pulled out of his thoughts when he realized that Pasine had agreed to his tutoring and he had completely ignored her. Shells he could be dense. “Glad you accept we can start tomorrow after chores. Meet me in the records room about two candle marks from the midday meal.” There was no disguising the happiness in his tone. The candidate smiled back at Pasine and ran his hand through his hair as he waited for her to fetch her shoes. This was going to be great!

“Oh!” Pasine peeped as she straightened with the heavy pair of wher boots in hands, brows raised in surprise. Why she had assumed the previous Candidate Master was male she did not know. Perhaps it was because she expected males to have a lower success rate? Or maybe she was still adjusting to the new, less gender-bound society of the Weyr. Though she strictly hoped it was simply the first, her reasonings were probably a combination of both put together.
But what was she to say? She shouldn’t apologize; wasn’t really sorry. Weren’t riders supposed to check straps before and after every flight? (Well, if they didn’t then it seemed like a good idea to her.) And it didn’t look seem Danar was close to her, anyways. Actually, he seemed to be busy in his own thoughts as well, giving her enough time to scrape together a simple, “Well, mystery aside, I do hope she’s not dead.”
Slipping her feet into the confines of her footwear, Pasine nodded in agreement to the terms eagerly. She would’ve asked him to do it sooner, but as usual had other, somewhat trivial things slated into today’s time-slots. “I look forward to seeing you there,” she replied… then paused. Was he expecting a hug or a handshake? With a woman she would’ve easily hugged, but with a man he’d probably take it as consent for sex or something. Defiling the ‘sacred’ Hatching Grounds was not on her list of things to do today. But she usually only reserved handshakes for those she wanted to keep at a distance, which was usually plenty of people. Even throughout this conversation she hadn’t been completely open.

Danar raised his eyebrows before answering. “Nah she isn’t dead just plenty messed up.” He ran his hand through is hair yet again as Pasine put on her heavy boots. “Yeah I’ll defiantly be there.”The lad said with a smile when Pasine had finished fastening her footwear. No wonder her feet where such a mess you probably couldn’t find less suitable shoes then the ones she was wearing. He declined to comment however they were on good terms and he had no wish to change that in the immediate future.
The candidate slid on his own sandals and then began to start down the stands turning around once to be sure that the girl would follow. “You need a ride back to the other side of the river? I’m awesome at the boating been doing it for years.” He paused and flashed her another wide smile, before continuing in a teasing tone. “Would get ya there faster at any rate. Most of you holders have never piloted a boat in your life I am willing to bet.” The lad whistled a happy tune as he led the way to the boats. This day had turned out all right. Thank Faranth for the Hatching Grounds!

“How much are you willing to bet?” Pasine piped with a serious expression. If it had been anyone else, she would have taken the wager and let them lose due to their own stupidity, but she actually did want that ride back and she doubted he’d provide it for her if she flaunted her preeminence like that. Finally she added, “Well, I certainly did not swim over here.”
Still, Pasine caught up to Danar and escorted him to the boats (where she presumably hitched a ride), clunking around in her awkwardly heavy boots the entire way.
((Sure! ^^ Thread closed! *STAMP*))
