Thora shook her head quietly at Anz's question, and smiled as he turned to ask Pri the same. I didn't think dragons were meant to be dancers . . The green mused quietly back to the blonds. Not expecting an answer, she fidgeted into a comfortable spot and daintily shook her wing free of the wet that had clung to it from Anz. Her whirling blue-green eyes were trained on Hers and the dancing boy.
As Anz pulled her closer, Thora smiled sweetly at him, only her heartbeat betrayed her nervousness. She had never become this close to someone in such a short amount of time; physically and emotionally. She liked Anz. He was so . . sweet! and rather adorable, and he did seem genuine. If he wasn't being himself, this entire act was quite a feat in Thora's eyes. Plus, Pri was so utterly fond of the boy, the feeling was hard to ignore. She glanced to her dragon over Anz's shoulder for a moment, and received a soft rumble and a mental prod to pay attention to her dance instructor.
Hm, he could sing too? Well, it would suit him, she had to admit. Plus, dancing and singing were two things you just couldn't fake. "Oh, yes. A fast one. Those always looked much more fun." She replied with a grin and a nod, her dark eyes sparkling with excitement as she looked at him. Of course, she took a risk picking a fast song. She could make a complete fool of herself trying to keep up with her obviously more experienced partner, and maybe even fall flat on the ground! Hopefully he would catch her if she did.

Anz was not terribly observant, and so he did not notice Thora’s discomfort. If he had, he probably would have felt bad; at the very least, the boy would have done something to try and comfort her. Since he didn’t, he took her hands, lacing his fingers with hers until both of her hands were on his shoulders. Then he moved his hands to her waist, and cocked his head to the side playfully. The expression on his face said it all: yes, he liked being close to her. He wasn’t a good actor (aside from pretending to be oblivious) and he was a wretched liar. Trying to disguise the fondness he felt for Thora and Hypriceth both was about as likely to work as trying to convince her of there being forests in the sky. He was no good at it, and anyway he wasn’t ashamed. Not only was she a pretty girl, but she was nice, too. How often did that happen? Really? Because pretty girls were normally uptight, stuck up, condescending and rude. He had enough experience with them to know that. He appreciated his luck and he liked her. Enough that he was keeping a polite distance - but he was close enough to be a little bit shy. Some part of him was modest. He just buried it very far beneath a very friendly exterior. Tch.
“Fast it is,” the candidate said happily, then adjusted his feet, making quite a show of it in the process. There was a trick, you see, to being able to dance fast. He glanced over at Hypriceth before quirking an eyebrow inquisitively. So pessimistic! That attitude needed to be remedied. As far as Anz was concerned, there was no such thing as ‘can’t’ -- only won’t. No one couldn’t do something. He believed people, dragon and human alike, could do whatever they wanted, so long as they put their mind to it. It wasn’t a physical impossibility. It was only a matter of learning the steps, and he was an expert teacher. “Dragons are not meant to dance? Hogwash. I assure you, you can dance just as well. You’ll see. Let’s get Thora dancing first, then she and I can teach you, and we’ll all dance together, all right?” He could just imagine how the three of them looked to any casual viewer, but -- oh well.
But that led him to another, more severe problem. He didn’t know -- he didn’t know which song to sing. There were plenty of good dancing ballads, but he didn’t know which ones that Thora favored. He remembered how to sing most of them, though. He really could have been a harper, had he put forth the effort. Anzalorin certainly had the personality for it; he liked people, he enjoyed being the center of attention, had absolutely no stage fright, and he had a good voice. His heart was always with the grape, and it didn’t take formal training to enjoy singing. All in all, he thought it worked out well. From what he’d heard from visiting harpers… he would not have enjoyed harper hall at all anyway.
“Well, before we can dance, we must pick a song. You can pick. I’ll improvise on the dancing if I don’t know the steps to dance proper, and well, there’s no one out here but us to know any different. Which would you like to dance to?”

Thora smiled coyly as her hands were directed to Anz's shoulders. She resisted the urge to let them flinch away as they rested on him. It wasn't that he was wet - she hardly noticed that any longer - it was just that she was so nervous. Why was she so nervous? He obviously didn't mind her touch and, if she could read his face correctly, he seemed to welcome it. She had known that dancing with a partner often got very personal, but she had only ever danced with friends, and they usually just held hands and bounced around to the rhythm of the song. With Anz, it would obviously be quite different.
She could feel her cheeks flush as his hands moved to her waist, and a happy little shiver went down her spine. The blonde grinned as she saw Anz obviously enjoying himself, maybe just as much as she was, but probably with less bundled nerves. Thora ran her hands gently over Anz's shoulders, making it seem as if she was finding a comfortable position for them on top of his wet shirt. It was an innocent motion, but it felt good to be able to be that close to him, and not have him mind; or try to molest her in some way for that matter. It would have usually gone either way if she was back home. There was no happy in between with friends and romantic interests it seemed, at least in her group of peers.
Anz's shuffling feet made Thora abort her useless nostalgia and watch how he positioned himself. He was much more important and interesting than anyone in her past she could have been thinking of at the moment. Hypriceth's loud rumble caught Thora' attention next, and she turned her head up to smile at her dragon.Okay. I will wait and see how you do it then. Maybe I will be the very first dragon to learn to properly dance! Now go, go. The green encouraged both Thora and Anz on to continue with the lesson. If Hers could learn it, then so could she.
Thora giggled softly as she looked back up at Anz. Oh, that's right! They needed a song. "Oh okay, uhhm . ." Thora paused for a moment to think, her eyes wandering behind Anz and along the glittering river. She was quiet for a few moments, but truthfully she had already had a song in mind, she was just trying to figure out if Anz would know it or not. "Well there is a song I really like. They sing it all the time on the boats . . although none of the seamen have incredibly pleasant voices . ." Thora chuckled at the recollection of the brassy toned sailors that her father always worked with, but quickly quieted to properly answer his question. "The Eastern Sea Hold song. About the sea . ." Well obviously it was about the sea. Thora felt like smacking herself right in the forehead, but she refrained, and just gave Anz a playful grin. "Do you know it?"

Umm. Ummm. Boats? He was from Blossom Hold, which was very much inland. Dolphineers may have known the song, but Anz himself avoided Dolphincrafthall aside from visiting his brother. He was very afraid of water. More specifically, he couldn’t swim, and the prospect of any large body of water - like the sea - was absolutely terrifying. He froze, visibly, and then forced himself to relax. No need to stress himself out. It wasn’t like there was open water around him; she’d just asked if he knew the song. Maybe his phobia of deep water was entirely irrational, but it had a strong impact on him. Strong. Even the mere mention of the ocean made him nervous. Illogical, but true. As a result, Anz made a point not to learn any songs about the ocean, or open water. That aside, he was from Blossom and not a dolphineer, so his experience with sailors was limited. Blossom was inland, and the lake hardly counted as appropriate for sailing, although many took boats out onto it. Most sailor songs he didn’t know at all -- but he knew the basics, like the ballad of Moreta’s Ride and the Question Song. Hnn. And the Firelizard song.
“I tend to… avoid anything ocean related,” Anz admitted with a slight flush. “I can’t swim. At all. I’ve -- I’m afraid of open water. So I don’t know any sailors, or any sailing songs. Nothing like that.” It was probably painfully obvious that he couldn’t swim, given the fact that she’d just seen him take a tumble into the river, but -- Anz wasn’t ashamed of his short comings usually. The swimming thing he was, but only where Zan was concerned. His brother was not allowed to know for sure that he couldn’t swim or Zan would probably drag him headfirst into the river to learn and -- and he was afraid of that. He did not want to become his sibling’s pet project. Or be forced into water higher up than his knees outside of bathing. It was uncomfortable. Frightening. But he didn’t think that Thora would tell anyone his secret. Naïve? A little. “I know the Firelizard song though, if that helps… Or we could just dance to no music. I won’t tell if you don’t.”
Somehow he doubted that Thora would mind all that much. Lack of music didn’t mean dancing was hard. After all, it was just moving to an internal beat. As far as Anzalorin was concerned, the hardest part was finding that beat. But explaining it to Thora wasn’t going to be easy. Eloquence wasn’t his strong point. In fact, far from. Usually Anz was quite prone to babbling. A harper could explain it - that internal song. He… he couldn’t. So he settled for humming the tune of the Fire lizard Song and moving, half-bouncing in the process. He circled around, pulling her with his grasp so that she could move with him in turn, and gestured downward toward their feet.
“Dancing’s simple. You just -- I’m not so eloquent, but you just think of a sound in your mind and then move to it. You can justify most anything so long as you don’t stomp your partner’s feet, or trip into someone. Twirls, dips, you name it. That’s why I don’t believe it’s possible for someone to not be able to dancem” the blond boy said with a slight nod, before bouncing one foot to the other while swaying to the side. It was probably a little odd to watch without music, but it definitely counted as dancing. “I like to make the steps up as I go, I find it more fun than just trying to dance to typical dances. Plus it looks better from afar. Pri can dance too, just the same way. Go on, Pri, try it~”

Thora noticed Anz's strange, frozen expression, and suddenly regretted her choice. Of course, she didn't know why she was regretting it exactly, but it seemed to make him uncomfortable, and that was the very last thing she wanted to do. She wilted slightly and gnawed at her lip with a mildly anxious expression. As he began to explain to her the reason for his sudden flux in demeanor, Thora wanted to smack herself for not putting it together. He was from Blossom Hold, he had told her that, and he was obviously floundering around in the water before because he couldn't swim. Something about that combination hadn't quite clicked in Thora's mind until it was mentioned to her, and she scolded herself for it. As silly as she felt, the blonde was quite baffled still. How could anyone be afraid of the sea? Of course there were storms to fear, but otherwise . . wasn't it glorious? Did not everyone think of the sea as beautiful? Apparently not. Growing up in a Hold full of sailors probably made her biased from the start but, truly, she could not fathom how someone could be so deathly frightened of water that even the mention of it sent chills up their spine. It was strange to think about, but Thora was decidedly not put off by Anz's fear. After all, maybe one day she could help him overcome it.
"Oh. Yes, the Firelizard song is just fine!" Thora said, maybe a little too enthusiastically, as she nodded her head and smiled. Of course! Everyone knew the flitter song, why couldn't she have just suggested that, instead of being horribly specific? She took a deep breath and exhaled it slowly. She was getting so flustered! She hated being flustered, and it was certainly not the best of times to do so. Anz was being kind enough to show her how to dance and she was silently freaking out about a song choice. No more of that nonesense! Pushing the whole thing out of her mind, she refocused on her lovely instructor as he began to move around.
Thora followed him closely, watching his feet like a hawk and trying to mimic them with her own. Her movements were jerky and unsure at first, but as he began talking again her eyes were directed to his face, and not the ground. Not watching her feet did help and she quickly remembered the time when one of the dancers at a Gather had tried to teach her little brother to dance. She had said to him that he should never watch his feet when they dance, because they would get nervous and trip over themselves for sure. It was a silly little thing to say as it was meant to instruct a child, but it seemed to prove very true. She grinned as she listened to Anz talk, and she could feel her movements becoming less and less thought over and more spontaneous. His humming did help to get her started since it reminded her so vividly of the song as if it was actually being played. However, even as he talked she still seemed to remember the rhythm and could dance to it of her own accord.
"Yeah, I can remember the song now. It seems much easier without all those steps to memorize." She said playfully as she danced in circles with him, obviously enjoying herself. Hypriceth rumbled amusedly at the pair of blonds. They were moving very quick, but Hers had gotten the hang of it now. They were so pretty, they were. A big blur of white and orange and yellow and red! The green fluted musically at the dancers and suddenly got up on her feet. Yes, yes! She could try it! It didn't look hard . . Watching the two humans for a few more moments, Pri looked to her feet, and then back, and began to turn. Really she was just going in a circle, and it began to make her dizzy, so she added some backwards and forwards steps into the mix every now and then. She was doing it yes? She looked pretty like them? She sent her queries to the other two with an excited warble. If she was doing it right, then this dancing was fun! Fluttering her wings as she twirled, the green held her head high, bright blue eyes spinning rapidly with her delight.

[ OMG I AM SO SORRY. ]
Okay. So he’d over-reacted by, um, a lot. Humiliatingly so. And there was no doubt in his mind that Thora thought him quite the fool - a fact he couldn’t even properly blame her for. He was being ridiculous, reacting so strongly, but… his birth father was a dolphineer. So was his brother, and both his mother and his aunt had ties to the Dolphin Hall. He was the only one who didn’t. While it was true that the ocean was more dangerous than the lake (and by proxy much more frightening to behold), the amount of fear he felt was probably quite disproportionate… and therefore bizarre by proxy. It wasn’t as though he’d ever seen the ocean, not really. Closest thing was rivers and lakes. If he Impressed, he’d probably get to, but -- his fears were stemming more from lack of experience than anything else. The very idea of going up onto a beach for anything made him afraid. What if the waters turned and engulfed him? What if the sea rose and swallowed holds nearby whole? It was a constant fear he harbored, paranoid though the thought was. What if.
Fortunately, fire lizards were a more pleasant thought. He wanted one, he did, deep down. It would probably be awhile before he had a chance to even attend a fire lizard hatching, but he did want one. They seemed like such cheerful little pets.
“Alright. The Firelizard Song it is.”
Hopefully focusing on that would keep her from realizing how odd he was behaving. She seemed tense. The last thing Anzalorin wanted was to make Thora feel bad. He liked her, he did. She was nice. More than that, he wanted to be… her friend. Maybe once they danced, the tension would vanish. He found dancing relaxing, at least. Far more than standing around. Anz didn’t like to hold still, though. Given a choice he was always in motion - always.
Back and forth, Anz moved, keeping his feet in tune with the internal beat of the fire lizard song. He bounced back a step to put some distance between himself and Thora before taking her hands in his. His arms spread out to the sides and he quirked his eyebrows up before offering her a playful, baiting smile. It was meant to be reassuring and he hoped that she took it as such. She seemed to be getting the hang of things just fine - humming was good, but singing better for beginners. In the back of his mind he wondered if there was anyone near enough to hear him if he burst out in song, before deciding that it really didn’t matter one way or the other. After all, he thought he sang quite well… for someone not properly trained, at least. He’d never gotten complaints before.
Half-bouncing, Anz circled Thora, moving to the beginning notes of the Fire Lizard song. “Do you know the lyrics? You can sing with me,” he said as he started to hum again, from the very start. Hypriceth’s movements drew his attention and he turned enough that he could see over Thora’s shoulder before laughing. Hard not to. Dragons dancing - what a sight. He could just imagine what the older riders would have thought if they happened upon the trio, but - eh. Who cared. “That’s right - see, you’ve got it. Just like that. If you wave your tail you’ll probably stay balanced better too, and then you’ll be absolutely flawless. The best dragon dancer ever hatched on Pern, you’ll see!” he encouraged, calling to the green. If she got it, maybe Thora did too - she seemed to, at least. “Now we just have to teach you to sing, and you’ll be on your way to being a harper, Pri~”
