He was just about to use Kaegan’s surprise to conveniently escape into the distance (so that she couldn’t question who he was) when his name sounded from next to him. And R’wign felt his heart drop into the pit of his stomach, do a nice little somersault, and then smack into his diaphragm. Which led to him getting the hiccups quite instantaneously, and his own face melted into a shade of red that would’ve made the fruit proud. His heart thudded in his chest, and R’wign started to back up when Kaegan squirmed up against him – just enough to stagger his thoughts out of logic and into something close to “Ooh” which was somewhat embarrassing. M’ta’s question was ignored as R’wign looked down at Kaegan, his entire body tense from a mixture of embarrassment and annoyance; didn’t he realize they were having a semi-private moment? And why did he have to show up right then? R’wign was nice enough to leave when Meira and M’ta were being all – all weird. Why couldn’t he do the same? And now Kaegan knew it was him and he was ready to hyperventilate, he was so embarrassed.
“I –” Whatever else R’wign was going to say was cut off by a distinct ‘Hic!’ escaping his lips and he blinked twice before attempting to squirm backwards. Unfortunately, M’ta’s grasp kept him from running off as quickly as he felt, and though he knew his face had to be an interesting shade of true scarlet, he wasn’t really sure what he could do to escape. He settled for fidgeting uncomfortably, blurting out, “I said that one day I wanted to run away with you, M’ta, and Kaegan was just about to tell me how to knock you out, hogtie you, and take you as my bride.” When in doubt: Be sarcastic. This was definitely not a conversation he wanted to have with M’ta hovering. Somehow he suspected the other brownrider would make fun of him. “You weren’t supposed to walk up in the middle of – hic!” Sharding hiccups!
Accident chose that moment to make a low squawk that could only be described as snickering. She fluttered off of M’ta’s head (totally ignoring the salamandyr that was cursing at her) to land on R’wign’s, before looking at Kaegan and sniping another ‘insult’ – in Firelizard. Grouch did not relinquish his spot of latching to M’ta’s ear, flapping his wings animatedly. Chewy, this one was. It didn’t really listen either, though this one was smart enough to bring him over… hmm. Grouch’s whirling eyes turned onto R’wign skeptically, and he settled himself before digging his claws into the boy’s shoulder (though not intentionally). What was going on…?
R’wign ignored his firelizards, and though he was tense, he managed to keep from yanking himself and Kaegan free from M’ta’s grasp. Mainly because he didn’t feel comfortable grabbing Kae, even if it was tempting. He made a mental note to strangle his roommate later, or worse: set Roxie loose on him. That would teach him to interrupt a private moment. Sharding little twit. Kaegan probably would hate him, too – he was betting she’d never want to speak to him again and all because M’ta had horrible timing. Internally wilting, R’wign’s face finally paled back to its normal tan shade, and he hiccupped again audibly. As if the situation wasn’t bad enough.
And… was she… pregnant?
Yours might want to run, Checkoth helpfully suggested to Behruth. R’wignmine is plotting evil deeds. His eyes whirled and he flapped his wings, before looking back in Millieth’s direction. Mine did not know that KaeganYours is egg-heavy…? That didn’t bode well, either; he could already feel the confusion and upset from His. If she was eggheavy, that meant she had a mate. Why didn’t Millieth say that anyway? Checkoth crooned nervously to himself and shifted his weight, trying to mentally comfort his mindmate; it was… awkward… to say the least.

M'ta finally managed to get his feet under him and released Kaegan and R'wign. These shoes were so coming off. Runner droppings or no, he'd go through the Gather barefoot before dealing with the shoes a moment longer. Glancing sidelong at R'wign, M'ta couldn't resist a slight smirk. As if he hadn't heard the man. Honestly! It was just...a surprise, to say the least. Ignoring the weight still dangling from his ear and the clawing at his shoulder - at least as best he could - the shorter brownrider stood on tiptoe and planted one on R'wign.
If they were going to play games, he should at least do his part, right? "Oh, R'wign! I had no idea you cared!" M'ta spared hardly a glance for Kaegan. Pregnant goldriders weren't high on his list of interests. (Meira, of course, didn't count as a pregnant goldrider. She was Meira and as such would always have some measure of his affection, even if that affection was, by and large, familial.) It was evil, yes, but R'wign's snipe hadn't exactly been nice. Had M'ta been at all taking him seriously, things would have gotten bad quickly. But he knew R'wign, and even if he didn't, it was pretty obvious the healer was just attempting to cover up his own embarrassment.
M'ta really hadn't meant to interrupt. He'd just wanted to be rid of the leeches. If he'd noticed what was going on earlier, he would have let them be, but it was too late for that now, wasn't it?Waxing serious, M'ta pointed at his earring. "Look, get this pest off me, and I'll get out of everyone's hair." And stop teasing R'wign, besides. Though it was nice to actually have some ammunition when R'wign chose to bring up Fiona again - or Meira. He'd been at a distinct disadvantage for awhile in that department. Honestly though, why Kaegan of all people?
Behruth was faintly amused at Checkoth's warning. He didn't mean to interrupt. The shoes...they're hard to walk in and tripped him up. But he's not at all afraid of Yours, Behruth finished, with perhaps just a touch of apology.

Stepping backward as soon as M'ta released her, Kaegan looked downward, not feeling like she had the ability to look at either of the men. She didn't know what to say, and she certainly didn't know how to act. It had been a very long time since someone had told her that they loved her, but R'wign's proclamation made it feel like the first time. This was not the time, especially in front of the other Brownrider, for her to sift through her feelings. She wasn't a rash person, she couldn't just say that she loved him too, because she wasn't sure if she did. She needed time to think. R'wign would wait... wouldn't he?
/Huh?/ She had been paying attention to her Human, almost missing the Brown's question. /Ah. Yes, Mine is pregnant. She was caught when the little Brown annoyance Ran. He had not Run before, and it was unexpected./ She spread her wings, stretching them out with another yawn. /She called herself, oh what was it... 'a stupid git for not Betweening right away' or something like that./ She swatted her tail against the 'Mandyr's rock pile again. /When she found out she was egg-heavy, she decided to keep it because she couldn't 'do away with it now'. What she meant by that I don't really know./ Rubbing at an itch on her leg with the tip of her nose, Millieth curled her body into a tighter ball. She was getting tired.
Reaching upward the Weyrwoman grabbed a handful of her hair and tugged on it in a nervous manner, only looking upward as one of R'wign's flitters chirped at her. The noise reminding her of her own Firelizard, and in turn, the toy that the Brownrider had just bought her. Looking from side to side, Kaegan first located her Bronze, who had left her shoulder when M'ta had fallen on them. He was now on the edge of the nearest tent. She then found the small canine, crouching down to pick it up off of the ground. She must have dropped it, but when exactly she didn't remember. Holding the stuffed animal close to her chest, Kaegan flinched slightly as Azaran alighted on her shoulder. Closing her eyes as he crooned and rubbed his head against her cheek, the Goldrider began to try and calm herself by taking a deep breath. But she doubted it would free her of the tightness in her chest.

What the –
R’wign blinked. Twice. He actually tensed for a split second in surprise as his mind jolted backwards as though yanked by a slingshot; as far as he knew M’ta hated being touched. Maybe he was becoming a very bad influence. Okay, no ‘maybe’ in that statement: he was clearly having a very bad influence on M’ta. Between wearing skirts, sassing teachers, and apparently kissing men (!!), he was convinced that he’d corrupted the usually-so-antisocial brownrider. Yet part of him was devilishly pleased at the notion – Pern could use more people like him, he was fun to be around! Although that didn’t stop him from wanting to immaturely reply with something akin to ‘Eeew, cooties!’ and run away from M’ta for kissing him. Yuck, M’ta-germs! He was not about to be one-upped by Shorty, though (and he had a tendency to refer to M’ta when he was being more playful as ‘Shorty’ – no doubt run-off from Checkoth). He just wasn’t. That was unacceptable. He was R’wign, the master of antagonizing people! The student would not surpass the master. Not yet, anyway.
For the moment ignoring Kaegan’s presence, R’wign grabbed M’ta around the waist (light enough to be easily pulled away from; he was determined not to be too awkward) and pulled him into a low, flourishing dip. At that exact moment, he also kissed M’ta back with enough enthusiasm to bring up the question of whether it was faked or not (except M’ta knew R’wign well enough to know better). The kiss, however intimate it might have seemed (if exceptionally dramatic), lasted only a few seconds before he intentionally let go as though to drop M’ta. Graceless as always.
“Oh, but M’ta, if I take him away, how ever am I going to make sure that you’re not having an affair?” he asked, rolling his eye. “You’re on your own, lover boy. Enjoy your snack, Grouch.”
The healer cast a nervous glance in Kaegan’s direction. He didn’t quite know how she’d react to that but – she knew it was him, so it wasn’t entirely unusual behavior, was it? She was being so quiet, which… didn’t bode well either. R’wign took the silence for rejection, which… he’d expected. Of course he’d expected it. But she wasn’t supposed to know that it was him. She was not supposed to realize it was him and if she guessed, she wasn’t supposed to have concrete proof. His insides felt like knots twisting and he was sure that if he stayed still for long enough, he would spontaneously combust. Smoky flames and charred bits of flesh, so awkward. Though, he almost wished it would happen if only because that would keep him from having to face Kaegan and the fact that she didn’t like him back. That was… humiliating. Not that he’d expected anything less.
Turning on his heel, R’wign did the only sensible thing for someone in his position to do: he fled. He had, uh, shopping to do. Right!
R’wignmine is just very upset right now, Checkoth replied, with a touch of nervousness in his voice. He’s convinced Millieth’s hates him, that she’ll never like him especially now. The brown tilted his head and crooned quietly before explaining to Millieth one thing he actually knew about – Human females lose their clutches when they jump between. If they mate and go between, they don’t keep their babies anymore. R’wignmine explained that to me when I was confused about Jingth’s having a baby human. That’s probably what she meant. Congratulations on Yours clutching. R’wignmine didn’t know. His tails twitched, and then he added, gently, I’m sorry he ran off. He’s nervous now… I should go check up on him. Thank you for talking to me, Millieth. And with that, he took to his wings to go make sure that his rider wasn’t causing havoc somewhere. Embarrassed R’wign was a bad thing, yes.

He was unreasonably pleased at actually surprising the other brownrider for once. R'wign tended to be a bit unflappable. In fact, this whole scenario was very amusing to him. At least...it was until the healer apparently recovered himself enough to return the favor. Whereas M'ta had caught him by surprise, it wasn't really all that surprising for R'wign to do such things, which was probably what kept the younger man anchored.
Nevertheless, his heart was galloping, probably fast and strong enough to be noted at the side of his neck. He was all too aware of the fact that he was defenseless at the back of his mind. Consciously that didn't matter. It was R'wign being R'wign - doing something for the shock factor. That was what R'wign did, not unlike the clown he masqueraded as. But it wasn't M'ta's conscious self that had so much trouble with anything smacking of intimacy, and the familiar panic was building. It was his own battle with himself that kept him from pulling away as he should have.
The kiss was a joke. Still, his hands came up, between them, probably adding to the humorous effect. Surely most would take M'ta's shocked, half-frightened look as acting as well. It was very nearly too much, the kiss, too passionate for him, too dominant, his eyes sliding out of focus for a moment. Fortunately, it didn't last quite long enough for M'ta to lose all bearing on where he was. Ruth shored him up, concerned as the brownrider fell, a bit too stunned to catch himself really. Okay, no more kissing. Shards. No more...
His chest heaved, M'ta rising up on one elbow and fighting it...still. Grouch and R'wign's words were ignored. He kept himself together long enough for the healer to disappear, before rolling over onto his hands and retching. Faranth. Ugh. The physical reaction was rather violent, leaving him shaken, and he backed up from the woman who had just gotten the contents of his stomach painted all over her feet. Wincing slightly, he wiped at his mouth with a sleeve, glancing up at her. "Sorry. Umm." Yeah. He was up and moving at a surprisingly quick pace, despite the awkwardness of walking in heels. In the opposite direction of R'wign.
Mine is pretty embarrassed too, if that makes Yours feel any better? Behruth offered weakly, also leaving his perch to go retrieve His. Maybe you should avoid the face-touching next time, Mine. You think?
