Elysia slowly opened her eyes as Dmitri stopped playing. Almost lazily she watched the harper as he removed the picks one by one. A part of her was very disappointed that he had stopped but well it wasn’t like she could spend all night listening. As much as she would have liked to, she had other work to perform and the handler’s lesson wasn’t yet over. His mumbled thanks caused Elysia to raise one perfectly manicured eyebrow slightly but she didn’t offer to remove her hand nor did she speak. There was something odd about his current mood. Something she couldn’t quite put her finger on. It was almost like nervousness but not quite. Almost questioning eyes flicking to Dmitri’s face and locked there for a moment. Until he spoke anyway. The, by now, familiar half smirk crossing his features. Still there was something the harper was trying to hide. What it was she couldn’t yet decipher. Which quite frankly was driving the benden rider crazy.
Still Elysia didn’t prod. Wasn’t worth it probably. If he wanted to remain closed she couldn’t very well protest. She herself was very closed and she was aware of the game. Even if she did prod the likeliness of Dmitri telling her the truth was close to nil. Fighting a sigh instead, the greenrider gave a cocky smile and rose slowly from the ground, her hand slipping further up his thigh and squeezing briefly before she removed it and shifted her stance. “Suppose it does satisfy the bet. Thank you for the amusement.” Dark eyes fixed themselves on his for a brief moment, still almost questioning, before they slipped back to the hand she raised to examine her fingernails. “You're right I’m not satisfied yet. I have to knock you on your ass a bit more. Maybe I can get some more through your thick skull tonight.” The words where given in a light teasing tone. A bit more playfulness creeping into the tone as she turned to face him.
Raising a finger the benden rider stepped backwards and gave Dmitri a come hither gesture, widening her stance as she did so and dropping her whip and dagger to the ground. Raising her hands to display that she had no weapon Elysia took one step back and beckoned to him again. “Come on then handler. Show me what you can do. Feel free to keep your weapons. I don’t need mine to beat you.” Smiling a cocky little grin she gave a short little mock bow. “Anytime you wish darling. I’m waiting.” Onyth rumbled in amusement, the noise carrying from somewhere back in the darkness. You are going to flip him aren’t you? You think you can? He is learning. Yes he is. But I’m not worried lovely. The dark green gave another pulse of amusement before retreating back into Elysia’s mind so as not to distract her unintentionally.
The greenrider in turn raised one eyebrow. “I’m still waiting…” Leg muscles subtly shifted to anchor her better as Elysia watched for subtle changes or movements from her opponent. Her goal was clear. Get the upper hand and simply use his own momentum to flip him onto the ground. Shouldn’t be to hard. Unless he had been paying attention to her. Even then it was a simple matter to trip him up or incapacitate him should she choose. He wanted to be knocked down. She could do that for him.

Dmitri turned his face aside, the hand that had found his pocket clenching slightly. Elysia could think what she wanted to of it...the fact that he hadn't flinched took a good deal of control as it was. He was confident she wouldn't know what to make of it, which was almost as good as not showing anything to begin with. Amusement. Yeah, okay, amusement. He was delighted to...amuse...her. It wasn't his life or anything like that. Just a show for Elysia to clap at. Well, he really shouldn't be surprised or anything. The woman used and discarded people at whim, which showed a fundamental lack of respect or regard for them as people, anyway. All just toys for her to amuse herself with. And she wondered why he tried to get rid of her. He wasn't sure how, though...rejecting her had the opposite effect, and welcoming her certainly wasn't about to get him anywhere. Trapped.
Enough. He'd take advantage of the lessons while she was offering and just continue to hope that one night she'd grow bored and simply not show up anymore. "Rather too thick for that, I'd guess," he murmured, half to himself as he rose from the stool, regarding her with an expression that lacked almost all emotion. His eyes moved over her, taking in the stance and the discarded weapons. His other hand went into his pocket as well, and he strode sedately away from his instrument, having no interest in fighting anywhere near it any more than he'd had the first time. So quickly she forgot.
"One of these days, your cockiness is going to get the better of you. Hopefully not fatally," he stated flatly. Elysia might have reason to be so self-confident with him. In fact, she did. But the woman had already been surprised once tonight, and here she was shedding her weapons? Telling him to attack with his? Well, he didn't intend to. They were more likely to end up in her hands, anyway. He unbuckled his belt, pulling it out and letting it fall to the ground along with the dirk, which he kicked enough out of the way to prevent her from picking it up in a grope, then continued to walk further away to draw her from her own weapons. Never trust a Benden greenrider to fight fairly. Particularly an Elysia.
Only when she was sufficiently far from the instrument he'd rather not have her break did Dmitri close the distance, but if she expected him to charge her, she had another thing coming. Still far enough out that she couldn't reach him from where she was standing, he made as if to attempt to sweep her feet out from under her, which brought his shoulder nearer her. His hand shot out for her face, palm-open. The intent, however, was not to hit (though if she didn't block it or evade that was really her own fault) but to distract. The arm that followed was aimed low and at her gut, with all his power behind it. And, slender boy or no, his strength wasn't wholly negligible. He was angry enough not to care if it hurt her. Shards, she was the one who thought he offered her absolutely no threat. Her own fault, however it played out.

Elysia followed Dmitri’s movements with her eyes, the cold emotionless gaze he viewed her with was not in the least surprising to the greenrider. To put it bluntly she was a hard person to like. Intentional that was. Whether people realized it or not. Taking a step forward and away from his instrument the benden rider adjusted again. His words drawing a simple shrug from her. “Cocky is one way to put it. I prefer confident. Besides when it’s my time it’s my time.” Elysia absolutely refused to roll over….for anyone. Rolling over got her nothing in the past. She was here, she was alive, she was a female northern rider. It was an accomplishment. The greenrider refused to see it any other way. Dark eyes watched the harper carefully as he to removed his weapons and intentionally drew her away from hers. Smart boy. Couldn’t use what she didn’t have. Oh Elysia wouldn’t have used them anyway but at least he had gotten the basic don’t trust /anyone/ rule down. Dark eyes watched the harper with something akin to feral anticipation. Fighting always got her blood pumping and blood was a pleasurable sight when it wasn’t her own.
Unconcerned the benden rider followed Dmitri’s lead, perfectly content to let him work his mind anyway he wanted. No matter. The handler wouldn’t win. Elysia tensed as he approached, the feinted swipe dealt with as she took a quick back step. Her wrist came up to knock his palm away and to the side as she sidestepped so his arm grazed her hip instead of striking her where intended. Her opposite arm locked his in place against her hip as her foot shoot out in a kick. The move was intended not to hurt but to possibly trip him up. It would be an almost simple matter from there to turn momentum to the greenrider’s advantage. As the harper’s weight started towards the ground she released his arm, backing up to fall back into a guarded stance. Did she expect Dmitri to recover or get right back up and come for her again? Perhaps. The fall wouldn’t hurt him and if he was smart he could and would come back at her.
Weight carefully balanced Elysia half crossed her arms in front of her blocking her more vulnerable area’s from attack as her eyes watched for retaliation. Onyth watching from behind in the darkness dug her claws into the earth and gave a draconic chuckle. You enjoy this far to much. Green eyes whirled peacefully as the dragon arched her neck and gave a bored yawn. I will leave you now my Elysia. I am far more interested in sleep. Do not be to much longer. Drills in the morning. The dark green dragon rose from her position and padded off a distance so as not to disturb the pair with wind from her takeoff.
The leaving of her dragon was noted but not focused on as the greenrider watched her opponent. “Come on now darling don’t tell me you’re done already? We’ve barely gotten started.” The words were offered with a guarded smile as Elysia shifted to step forward towards him. The move intentionally closed distance between them to try and bait him into lashing out or giving her a chance to. Already Dmitri had proven that he could and was learning. So it was not in Elysia’s best interest to take him to lightly. The greenrider had learned the hard way not to give anyone to much of a handicap. Could and did often come back to bite you. Still she couldn't resist playing a little with her prey. A downfall of hers that her father had tried unsuccessfully to break her of many a time.

A shame the third hadn't struck; it was the only one he'd really thought might. Not surprised to find his arm captured, he went with the kick, crumping to the opposite knee. There he didn't move right away. The reasoning was twofold. First, she didn't let go of his arm immediately, and he knew better than to attempt anything when she still had control of a limb. Pressure points were a bitch. In this little spar she wouldn't be breaking anything - maybe - but if it were a real fight? Yeah. Better just to stay passive. The second reason was perhaps the more staying one. He was angry. Enough that he knew he'd tend toward rash decisions and actions. For once, he intended to get the better of her, if only for a moment. A few seconds. Just long enough...to not be...a gnat...
His head dipped, relying more on his harper-trained ears and a growing familiarity with Elysia's habits than eyesight. Just the barest glimpse of her from the corner of his eye as her body shifted, her words entirely ignored. No response to the step forward. His head dipped further, torso sagging forward over the hand he'd placed on the ground in front of him. It was a swift hook at the back of her ankle from the leg already extended, even as he pushed upwards with arm and the bent leg still in a crouching position, turning his torso enough to leap forward (she wasn't more than a full stride away, after all) with every attempt to plant his shoulder full into her front. Limbs were too easy to capture and redirect. A direct charge like this had many failpoints, however, it wouldn't be easy to fully evade from a standstill just a pace away. He had more mass than Elysia, and the distraction of the hook kick just might have been enough to make good use of the extra weight and power he had in his body. Either way, he meant to press her tonight.

Elysia watched Dmitri with something akin to interest as he stayed down. The lowering of his head had her wondering. Just what was he up to? Certainly he wasn’t giving up? That would be way to easy. Although it wouldn’t be predictable, and if anything she had quickly learned that the handler liked to be unpredictable. Tilting her head the greenrider watched as he dipped his torso forward, almost leaning on the hand he had placed in front of him. What exactly was he intending to do? It was obvious he was staying down intentionally and refusing to react verbally to her baiting. Much the pity. The benden rider liked it when they mouthed off back. The hook at the back of her ankle was her answer. Yes he was up to something. Instead of fighting against the pull Elysia allowed it. Using the momentum from his ankle swipe she hit the ground and pivoted to her knees just as he lowered his shoulder and came at her. Few options she had so she went with the one that would probably work the best and hurt him the least.
Dipping her own shoulder Elysia ducked his attempted strike at her front, instead thrusting her own weight upwards and attempting to flip Dmitri over her back. Yes he had more weight and power physically but if you where smart enough you could use that strength to your advantage. What was starting to surprise her was the fact that he didn’t seem to be holding back. At all. If he did get off a shot or two it was going to hurt. Best not let that happen. Easier to try and pin him if she did manage to flip the harper. Which was the benden rider’s intention. That way she could figure out just what was pissing him off so bad. Because his movements told her he was irked about something. Why this bothered her she couldn’t exactly pin. However those thoughts aside she was a bit impressed with his progress. Usually he didn’t fight back near as viciously. See he was learning.

Surprised by the fact that she'd gone down - Miss Perfect seemed capable of evading everything he threw at her - Dmitri thrust a foot forward in an attempt to stop himself before he was too far committed. After all, what amounted to a forward charge from the shoulder was hardly going to be as effective when her head didn't even reach that high kneeling. He half-turned as well, to bring the more bony part of his hip and thigh against her (and protect his front because she was at a height that would be very inconvenient for him if she decided to lash out right now). It wasn't a reaction in anticipation of her shoulder-strike, which caught him in the side, though it might have seemed that way. Because at this angle? Her attempt to counter had simply helped him stop...that and pushed some of the air from his lungs.
His hand caught her hair, and he brought his back knee around, the full force of the twist of his hips behind it...before stopping. He didn't want to break her. Not really. With a hiss, he tossed her aside, his hands diving deep into his pockets, eyes returning to the instrument briefly. "Keep disregarding me. I may be weaker...but I'm not weak. Or a toy. Fuck you." He moved away, kicking her weapons back toward her and retrieving his belt. "Don't bother coming tomorrow, either. I won't be here." He didn't once glance back, settling the belt back over his hips. There was a rasp that wasn't entirely anger behind the words. Dmisk had risen and was watching in silence, his eyes slitting slightly as they focused on the greenrider.

It all happened so fast and yet for Elysia so slow. The only thought running through her mind was simple. Damn it. She had fucked up and now she was going to pay for her oversight. Dmitri grabbing her by the hair was not expected and so for a moment she hesitated before attempting a block that simply was not needed. As he flung the benden rider away from him, releasing her hair she openly glared at him. However the harper seemed to be refusing to meet her eyes. For some stupid reason the scene, her on the ground propped near his feet and him towering over, reminded her of her father and a brief flicker of something akin to fear flashed across the greenrider’s features before she could school her expression to stoic. Fortunately the handler wasn’t paying her any mind anyway. Carefully rising to her feet Elysia blinked at the way his words where directed. Dark eyes watched with an unreadable expression as her weapons where kicked back towards her.
For a moment the greenrider worried at her lip and then gave a sigh. Emotions where warring within her and it was sharding hard to figure them all out. Yes originally she had wanted to piss him off. But not this badly. Shifting she bent down to retrieve her weapons and put them in their proper places. “You’re right. You’re not a toy….” The words where offered in a very soft tone. In fact if Dmitri did not pay attention it was highly likely he would miss them altogether. Unbinding her hair Elysia worked at putting it back up.
The movements served two purposes. Once was hiding her face. The other gaining some semblance of control over herself. Shards. Why did it /upset/ her that he didn’t want her around anymore? Oh he had said as much before, but well Dmitri had never really seemed to mean the words. This time it sounded like he did mean them. Hair sufficiently pinned back to where it was supposed to be the greenrider turned her eyes back to the handler. Almost nervously she shifted. “You are not weak. I never professed to say you where. I bait. It’s an attempt to get more out of you. ” Now what?
Problem was…Elysia wasn’t sure. Part of her absolutely balked at walking away. She didn’t walk away. Not from anyone. Not ever. But well Dmitri wasn’t someone she could throw hurtful things at. In fact she couldn’t bring herself to. Damn it all. When did this happen? Dropping her gaze the benden rider took one steadying breath. Okay. “That’s fine. If you are done you are done. I guess we can count you as paid off.” Half turning she stepped forward in the direction of the weyr. “Thank you so much for the lovely song. It was wonderful to hear.” Elysia’s eyes flicked to the harper then back to somewhere near her feet before she lost her nerve and started the baiting she was so used to.
Dmitri had made his view on the subject clear enough. He was done, didn’t want to see her anymore. Yes Elysia was about as stubborn as they came but, well she didn’t want to hurt Dmitri. So rather than risk it….walking away was simpler. Even if she didn’t want to. With a final check to make sure she had everything she turned completely and started the walk back towards her weyr.

His ears were good...out of necessity, really. But he didn't turn back toward her. Dmitri's jaw clenched slightly, the knotted muscles smoothing by force of will more than anything else. Watching her through Dmisk's eyes - as if the harper was likely to actually turn his back on someone that dangerous without keeping tabs on her somehow - the handler saw more than she probably would have liked. Certainly more than she knew.
Her words were building his anger, though in a way that was hard to explain and, in some ways, entirely foreign. Dmitri was used to arrogance and disdain. It was something he had a good amount of himself, and could play up even when it wasn't really there. Part of the language of the world he'd come from. She took it to entirely different levels, though. Like extreme heat or extreme cold, you could learn to deal with it okay after awhile. Develop defense mechanisms. But switching from one to the other was too much for anyone, and perhaps if Dmitri wasn't as good as he was at reading other people he could've dismissed her easily much earlier - but as it was, she was confusing him. Say one thing with words, another with body language, flip flop. Toying with him. He was never going to be someone's fucking toy again. Bad enough to jack himself up, but dancing like a marionette...it was a game he wouldn't play.
Never show anyone anything of importance to you. How quickly he forgot such rules.
A hiss escaped him. He turned on a heel, catching up to her in a couple strides and spinning her by the shoulder. Spinning but not holding on. "Now it's the whipped puppy act? Because I don't want to play your games anymore? Stop acting like you got kicked, woman. You want people to think you're some tough badass? Grow a pair. No one likes you. Not a single person. You make your own damn self feel better by stepping all over the rest of us. I don't need you to bait me. At least tell yourself the truth; it makes you feel better to win, to get a rise out of people, to knock them on their asses or beat them at a game of wits. I don't care about that. But don't try to pretend it's anything else. Don't try to pretend you're pulling any of your bullshit for my sake. That wasn't a song, some little ditty for your amusement, and you have no right to judge it anyway. You don't know anything about it.
"Make up your mind what you want, right here, right now. If you want company you need to stop fucking treating people like they're made for you to step all over. If all you want is some stray to kick around to make you feel big and bad, then don't pretend it's anything else. People may not like you for it, but it's better than the mask you traipse around with. I don't know who dominated you, who scared the shit out of you and controlled you, that you can't let anyone anywhere best you or have any hold on you at all, but take your damn baggage elsewhere. I'm not a toy, I'm not a bandage for your ego, and I'm not your personal entertainer. You interest me, damn you, but not this shell of stupid you like to wear, and I'm getting to the point where cracking through your shell just isn't worth it. I have to open myself to do it, and you keep on stomping on me when I do. It's not worth it. You aren't worth it. I've been stomped on enough without inviting more of it."

Should have heard him coming. That was the first thought Elysia had as Dmitri spun her around. Lucky for the wher handler he released her immediately afterwards because her arm shot up in a defensive movement. Immediately as he released her the rider’s other arm went low to protect in case a blow went for her midsection, legs shifting to put her whole body into an entirely defensive position. Dark eyes flashed for a moment before second by second she started to relax.
Relaxed until his words started pouring out at least. The greenrider had to literally fight against the urge to go immediately back at him. What? What! It was perhaps a miracle that kept Elysia from immediately reacting. A miracle or Onyth, who had entered her mind at the first flash of irrational anger, the dragon’s calmness acting like a bucket of cold water and dosing the first instinctual rise of anger. Easy Elysia my love. Still the harper’s words caused the greenrider to tense and she bit her tongue. This is what she got for trying to be nice and leave him alone? Damn Faranth to the depths of hell.
When Dmitri finished Elysia stepped forward hands shoving roughly against this chest with enough force to hopefully make him stumble backwards. He wanted her to be honest? Not to hide anything? Well fine. She’d give the brat what he wanted. “Fuck you Dmitri. What do you know about anything!?” The words where practically hissed at the beginning, as the green rider again stepped forward towards him, this time hands clenched and held at her sides to stop her from physically lashing out again. “I’m not acting like I was kicked. If I was I’d be a hell of a lot more upset than I am currently. Am I upset? Yes I am. Why? Because damn it no matter what I seem to do I never can do anything right by you. I try to be nice and what does it get me? Yelled at and insulted. Yes you’re right. Nobody likes me. You know what? I don’t give a shit. I’m used to being disliked damn it. I prefer it in fact. I’m from Benden. I was sent here partially against my will. I don’t expect people from Selenitas to like me at all. My homeland murdered their friends and family. Why would they accept or even like me? You’re right I do walk all over people. I do like to win. I thrive on it. But do I want to hurt you? Do I want to win something from you? No. So don’t stand there and act like you know me.”
Unclenching her hands, one came up to massage briefly at her temple trying to soothe the discomfort building there before Elysia went on. “I liked your fucking music okay? I was being honest. I had no intention of offending you in any way. How do you expect me to understand it Dmitri when I’ve never heard anything like it before? I wasn’t being judgmental damn it. I was trying to fucking compliment you but obviously that was a mistake.” Against her better judgment the greenrider was quickly losing control of herself and it was causing quite the rollercoaster. Especially when Onyth withdrew and she felt the dragon leave her ledge to angle in their direction. Worried Onyth did not often become and it only made Elysia feel worse. Comments on dominance, fear and control caused her to wince at each word. Dark eyes lifted to lock onto Dmitri’s, for once, Elysia doing nothing to hide the glimmer of moisture present in them. Right now she wanted to hurt him. Badly. But nothing good would come of it. Instead her nails bit into her palms.
“What do you know of it? You know nothing. Shut up. Just shut up. Stop talking as if you know me and what goes on in my head. You have no idea. No idea how I’ve lived, what I’ve been through. So don’t you /dare/ stand there and patronize me. Don’t stand here and psychoanalyze and pretend you know all about it. You don’t even have an inkling. How dare you stand there and think you can analyze me and put me into this neat little package. You talk of masks? Well people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. You are just as guilty.” Her hand came up in a sharp gesture. “You’re right. At the beginning maybe I did view you as a toy, But not anymore damn it. Now it’s different. But fine. I’ll take my baggage and my ego and my problems,” the word was spat with distaste, “elsewhere. As you said /I’m/ not worth it.” The final words where punctuated by a quiet mental growl from above as Onyth circled. Elysia holding her green at bay with one mental command. Stay. “So fuck you and damn me for thinking maybe I could have one friend in this damn horrible backwards place. Screw you. You wanted out. I’m leaving. This is what you wanted isn’t it?” By this time a few tears had trickled downwards and Elysia angrily rubbed them away. Damn it. He wanted open he got it. Now lets watch him stomp away.
He won’t get far. Leave him Onyth. The green brushed her mind with Elysia’s in an attempt to comfort, but obeyed and stayed at a decent height above. No sense in making anything worse, no matter how badly she wanted to punish the man for daring to upset hers. It had been quite awhile since anyone had done such and the green had to wonder just what made Dmitri so special. Elysia in turn just fell silent.

Elysia was not a weak woman. Her push did in fact force him a step back, but if she'd meant it to be more forceful than that...well, Dmitri wasn't so easy to push around as he liked to have people think. And he was too angry to play the game to maintain her delusions. Oh, he had no doubt that she'd tear him apart if she wanted but she wouldn't get away as unscathed as she thought.
Her flood of words were analyzed by the harper from something of a cold distance. What he heard there was anger, upset, and right or not he was definitely pushing buttons. Her filters were down completely, and he wasn't apologetic about it. Wasn't apologetic about any of it. Why? Because Elysia was a control freak. And she was playing games with him. No matter how much she tried to deny it - even if it was a matter of subconsciously following patterns of behavior developed long ago - the greenrider was pulling at strings and pushing at buttons to see how he'd dance. And to manipulate him once she thought she had an idea. No matter what she said. Dmitri would recognize that anywhere. Why? Well, because he did the same thing. Even trying not to, even when he didn't think about it, even when it disgusted him because it was that ability that had been used time and again by a man that made Dmitri's stomach turn...even so he played his puppet games.
As he did even now. Takes one to know one.
Her protests didn't negate the flinching or the tears. He was right. To what extent...impossible to tell...but he'd found part of it just a moment ago. His eyes slid up toward the circling shadow, a firm command for Dmisk not to react keeping the blue apart.
The harper searched her eyes for a lingering moment, ignoring the prickling of hairs on his neck and the desire to find cover. Hated, hated dragons. Vicious beasts. Even Onyth, who he'd grown a touch more comfortable with, showed her true colors with so little provocation. He could almost feel her desire to tear him apart from here.
"Stupid," he muttered. "Don't you know how to treat friends? I get not wanting to let people in, but...damn it, Elysia, if you want to have friends, acting like they're beneath you isn't going to get you very far." He took a step closer to her. "You haven't been listening. You're confusing me, woman, with all this. I can't tell if you want to play, if you want to break me, or if you're just bored and I'm better than nothing when it comes to filling the time. You. Are. Inconsistent." His hand found her chin, and he kissed her gently.
"Hopeless. I'll help you: should be asking why I'm this upset at all, hm?" He stepped back before she decided to break his face or his arm for his insolence, eyes narrowing as his head tilted up toward Onyth. "Going to let her eat me, or what?"

Elysia watched with something akin to cold fury or possibly just numbness as Dmitri’s eyes slid upwards towards her circling dragon. He did not know that Onyth was under firm command to stay put in the sky and she was not going to offer him that fact either. Even under the Benden rider’s command however the dark green was reluctant to leave. Especially when hers was actually upset. Her bonded being actually upset was a rare enough occurrence that when it happened it bothered Onyth beyond normal means. Still she physically reacted to another prod from Elysia giving a hiss of displeasure even as she ascended higher and continued her circling at a higher altitude. Giving the green a pleased mental brush the benden woman returned her gaze to the harper in front of her. The fact that he had made neither move nor comment bothered her. Why was he not walking away?
As Dmitri’s eyes found her own Elysia gazed unflinchingly back. No longer bothering to try and hide her displeasure, unease, and upset with this whole sharding situation. Not worth it when the greenrider had basically exploded on him just moments before. Damn him. Damn him for finding a way past the icy wall she had built around herself. Tears where something that hadn’t actually come in turns and wouldn’t you know it now that they where there they where fighting to stay. To bad that Elysia considered herself stronger than such hysterics. Blinking the last of them away she had just about decided to turn on heal and leave when the harper started speaking again.
Almost automatically her attention when completely to Dmitri. Expecting more anger and denial and excuses. Brief confusion flashed across her expression when the greenrider realized that it wasn’t anger. This she wasn’t equipped to deal with. Anger had always begot more anger in return, and then violence and pain. This wasn’t anything like that and part of Elysia was actually confused as to the proper way to react. This above all else was what saved Dmitri as his hand found her chin.
Briefly dark eyes locked with his, the confusion in them very apparent until his lips found hers and they closed almost automatically. The kiss also was different, soft, gentle and not at all like anything she’d experienced or expected. Softness was just not something Elysia often had met up with in life. Gentleness was not needed for survival. As Dmitri’s lips left her own almost automatically her hand flew up to touch where they had been but a moment before. The harper had said that she was confusing him well damn it /he/ was being just as confusing.
Dropping the hand at her lips as Dmitri took a step back the greenrider fought to find her tongue. The words that came out where not voiced in the usual playful tone. Instead they where soft, almost uncertain. “So then tell me. Why are you so upset?” Dark eyes traveled upwards to her dragon. “and no. I won’t let Onyth eat you. She wouldn’t eat you anyway. She just doesn’t like me being actually upset.” Elysia’s gaze fell back to Dmitri as Onyth obediently banked and winged back to an unoccupied ledge not to far away. Mantling her wings the green settled herself to wait, curious as to how this would play out.

There was a flicker of sadness that passed behind his eyes at just how startled the greenrider looked, before he shrugged it off as he did most other things. Dmitri gave her a moment to compose herself, his eyes following Onyth's retreat. The blue wher apparently decided he was tired of watching from a distance and padded up close to His, winding very obviously around the harper in what was clearly a possesive posture. He made no sound, and his eyes were the same calm blue as they always were, but the way he didn't take his eyes off the dragonrider spoke volumes as to just how much he wasn't comfortable with the situation. He sprawled, entangled up in the legs of His, and let his head fall to his crossed forelimbs.
Dmitri's hand rubbed along Dmisk's head, even as a certain gold salamandyr took out her frustrations on Yoalla's green. He wasn't sure if her shrieks could be heard this far or if it was just his bond with her that made it impossible to ignore...but Dmitri was getting a nice headache by this point. "If I didn't need to upset you to get you to stop playing games..." he murmured, the words loud enough to be heard, but soft enough to be easily ignored or missed if she wasn't paying attention. Had he been angry? Yes. Did that really mean anything? No. Dmitri couldn't always keep his emotions from his eyes or movements, not completely, but he wasn't the type of person who lost control of himself. At least, not without a mindmate involved.
Would've been possible, of course, to simply do what he always did and keep his anger sheathed, but that wasn't doing him any good. She just continued with the same old things. He was beginning to think she liked angering him. "I'm still angry at you," he added, eyeing her very frankly. "I don't mind being your amusement to pass the time, but my music is something else. If you like it just say it. We all have our...defenses...but you can't make music - real music - while hiding. And it makes me want to break your face when you treat it like it's something cheap. I can play your games, but I'm not cheap and I'm not worthless, and you treating me like I am when I'm letting you..." He tsked softly. His anger was building again just by saying it. The point was likely made, anyway. He let it drop.
"Whether you intend it that way or not, treat someone like they're worthless and beneath you long enough - even if it's only word games - and they start believing that's really how it is. I can handle just about anything you throw at me, Ely, but not the back and forth shit. Not when my guard's down." Twisting a stylus through his fingers, his hands still in his pockets, he flicked an almost awkward glance at her. "I'm sorry, but the only way I can even be sure of what you really feel about something is pissing you off so much you can't hide behind your masks. For the record, making a woman cry is awkward." He made a face, the expression very young.
His voice lowered almost to a whisper. "I don't know why it matters, but I don't want to be...nothing to you. Or a game. Probably silly to even think it could be anything else, but, eh. We all can have our delusions, right? If that's what it is, yeah, I don't think I can do this." A hand came out of his pocket, fingers flicking through the air vaguely. "Want to not give a shit, but that's another thing I can't really choose. Not a masochist, babe." Dmitri's eyes dropped to Dmisk, half-wishing the male hadn't entangled him because it meant he couldn't really retreat very easily right now.

Elysia’s eyes flicked to Dmisk as the wher moved. Automatically she shifted backwards the required paces by instinct. Enough space to give her time to dodge should the beast attack and for Onyth to descend and rip it apart before it could do the same to her. The appearance of the wher in fact had put her dragon on high alert, a rumbling growl sounding through the air. Whirling orange eyes where the only thing that marked the green’s position by sight. Still however the dragon bared her teeth and mantled her wings in a clear warning. The humans may not be able to see her but the wher could. Let there be no mistake in her intentions if it came to a fight. Most of Onyth wished to be down with hers where she could touch and be of use faster but Elysia rejected that with a firm no. Her dragon was to stay where she was.
Dark eyes shifted to the harper as he began to speak. Only half her attention however was on Dmitri, the majority of it was on the threat the wher presented. The benden woman heard his comment and processed it but had no return comment. Her eyes merely stayed steady in contact between him and the wher. Not much she could say. Games where now she interacted. How Elysia had interacted for turns. Not very many people got to see beneath them. In fact only her mindmates knew that much about her, and that was just because they where connected to her core thoughts. Nothing was hidden from Onyth. Nothing ever had been. Her firelizards she was more careful with, but even they knew more than any living human. In fact even know her firelizards where kept at bay. They knew she was upset and it made them both want to immediately find her. Not willing to risk them the greenrider forced them by mental will to stay put, although she could feel their distress at such a thing.
Thoroughly composed by this point Elysia struggled not to put the aloof mask she often wore in place just yet. Instead she let Dmitri go on. Part of her bristled at his view of things. She had liked the music. Perhaps she had come off as amused or whatever but that had been purely unintentional. Not that he was likely to believe that. Still angry with her. Hmm well the feeling was mutual. He wanted to break her face for thinking his music was cheap (when she thought no such thing) and she wanted to break his face for upsetting her like this.
More importantly she wanted to punish herself for allowing the handler to upset her. That would come later, right now the greenrider had to figure out what to do with this situation. All without previous knowledge on how to fix it. It was like groping around in the dark. Something Elysia had never really done before. Always the right way to act seemed to present itself. Here there was no help because never before had she had these feelings involved. It was beyond annoying, almost infuriating in sense.
Quietly the greenrider allowed Dmitri to finish. “Crying woman are meant to make males feel awkward. It’s a defense mechanism for females who are to weak to fight back. Make you pity them and perhaps you will spare their lives.” The words where factual in nature, no disgust and nothing else present in the tone. It was simply an explanation. “My father taught me that.” Elysia didn’t often cry, which in a way proved her father’s point. He made her strong according to him. “You don’t need to apologize. There is nothing to apologize for on your end it seems.” The woman trialed off then so as to better catch the handler’s whispered words.
What she did hear made the woman blink in slight surprise. He wanted to be more than a game to her? But…he already was more than a game. What exactly he was Elysia still wasn’t sure. However he had long since stopped being a toy or game for her to amuse herself. She had come to truly care about how he felt in ways and it mildly confused her. The greenrider didn’t love or not in the sense most people seemed to. She didn’t form connections as deeply or quickly as others but that didn’t mean she was heartless or incapable of such. Momentarily she was at a bit of a loss, warring with herself on just what she /could/ do. Finally the woman gave a small sigh and intentionally took a few steps closer, closing the distance despite Onyth’s unease and the threat of Dmisk.
Reaching upwards Elysia gently took Dmitri’s chin and gently turned his face towards her own. “You are one silly man you know that? If you where /just/ a game to me I’d be past bored and have left you by now. Yet I still keep coming back. It’s not because I want to break you Dmitri. It’s because I care about you damn it. I’m not doing this out of some misguided attempt to terrorize you. It’s because I like being around you. I don’t understand it half the time either but making you upset like this is not something I wanted to do.” Trailing off she gave a light smile. “I don’t think you are delusional either.” Hopefully that answered at least some of his questions. Lightly she pressed her lips to his before drawing back. The decision was still the handler’s in the end. If he wanted out of whatever this was becoming this was likely Dmitri’s last chance to run.

"I see." His face had fallen into the usual cold neutrals. "More games." Dmisk's tail curled tighter around his legs. "Too weak, or it suits their purposes better at the moment?" Possible she was playing him. Again. Crying on command where her intimidation or seduction wasn't working. More likely she just didn't care to admit that she wasn't fully in control. Either way, he had no use for masks. If that's what she wanted, though, she could look at his however often she pleased. It was all she'd be getting.
The blue wher stood as Elysia drew closer, wedging himself between handler and rider and preventing her from touching His. There was nothing aggressive about the movement as Dmitri regarded her stonily. Nothing aggressive, but, just the same, she wasn't getting close enough to touch His. Dmisk...didn't trust her. More to the point, the harper didn't. "Don't feed me any bullshit, Ely. I'm getting sick of it. You're stubborn. Pretending anything else...insults my intelligence." Turning his back to her definitively, Dmitri moved back up the hill, Dmisk waiting a few moments before following. "I'm holding you to your word, if it's any good; no touching me tomorrow."

His immediate coldness and stoic expression hurt more than Elysia was willing to admit.. In response she closed down completely out of instinct, dark eyes viewing the wher with something like disinterest as Onyth uncoiled and leapt into the air to descend with a warning growl. To close to hers. Still the greenrider didn’t move. “As you wish.” Was her only soft reply. He had given his answer. No more touching him. She’d leave him alone. It’s what he wanted after all. One kindness perhaps she could do for him. After all she wasn’t worth it. She was never worth it. To anyone. The minute the thoughts entered into her head Onyth violently rejected them. No. Do not ever think that again.
The dark dragon landed beside hers as the handler pair drew away. Maw parted and showing teeth Onyth snarled, head whipping as she growled in the retreating handler’s direction. Have you had enough finally? The dragon asked softly, head ducking down so she could nuzzle hers in an attempt to reassure. /He/ is not worth your tears or your upset. No more than Radalth's was. This you should know. Upset like this hers had not been, for a long time. Not since Radalth’s had changed her bonded, crafted her into what he wanted.
But Radalth’s was gone and damn it if Onyth was going to allow anyone to hurt hers again. Coiling swiftly around her Elysia the green crooned as the rider flung her arms around her head. Enough tears my love. You are worth it. To me, and in the end that is all that matters. Forget him. No more favors. It ends tonight. “Apparently so.” Was the quiet response the dragon got. “Let’s go home.”
