Ur'h regarded her rather blankly. Well, why would she say something when she wasn't really sure what it meant? How...odd. Thinking that perhaps it would be better if he gave her reciprocal information, he offered, "I'm forty-six." Then he thought about that for a moment. A bit...old...wasn't it? Oh well.
He hmm'd thoughtfully to himself for a moment, chewing slowly. "You won't be doing Threadfall or Searches anymore. Too advanced for Threadfall. Ja'kin has divided the wings up into two main fighting wings, and four smaller half-wings that will solve problems a bit more...creatively. You're on one of the half-wings. Let me see if I can remember correctly. C'zan, F'lix and...T'lor? will be your other wingmembers. F'lix won't be around much, though."
The man folded his hands in front of him, meeting her eyes squarely. "Once we enter the fight completely, Farryl, Selenitas will be in the war until it ends. Whether you rid yourselves of us or not. The northern weyrs are unlikely to simply stop bothering you once we are gone. Selenitas was never completely out of the war, really. Humored, harried whenever some bronzerider got it into his head to do so... None of this can be changed. It's in my interests to prepare you and Peppeth so you survive this war, and it's in yours to learn as much as you can as well as you can. You don't have to like me. I don't expect you to. But can we at least agree to work together?" He paused for a second. "Tell me what you have learned about self-defense."
Ykkith let the topic go. Peppeth would learn it for herself, after all. Or she wouldn't. And if she couldn't understand what he was talking about after experiencing - really experiencing - it for herself, then no amount of explaining would get her to understand. Besides, her enthusiasm was preferred. Garaeth? Some blue, as he recalled. Though he didn't remember anything more about him. Too many Selenitas dragons to keep track of all the ones he wasn't responsible for. Mm. We are not familiar with these little dragons. This is the first time we've seen them, really. How does one go about acquiring them for Yours?

Farryl raised an eyebrow with interest. The idea that she was too advanced for Threadfall was flattering, but she wasn't sure she liked where that would likely put her. Peppeth was fast, but she was hardly suited for battle with her personality. It was why she'd volunteered for Searches in the first place. She nodded, chewing absently on a fruit. She knew the others on her wing, even if not personally. Creativity was something she could manage. "I realize that," she admitted, meeting his eyes. "To be honest, it's amazing we've held out as long as we have." She'd still hoped that peace would come before this happened, but it was too late now.
She crossed her arms. "So I'll work with you, but I won't say I'll like it." It wasn't like she had a choice and these guys did know a thing or two about fighting. Whether she hated them or not, at least this one hadn't done anything to her personally. "I can fight with knives and I have a bow," she answered simply. She wasn't the best and she knew it. Survival and hunting was more her style.
Peppeth bobbed her head. Garaeth is very nice. His is a little odd though. She missed her other siblings terribly, but at least Garaeth and Frosstyth were still here. The smaller dragons were fun too. The subject of little flyers brightened her up considerably. The little queens lay eggs and call when they hatch! Then you just have to get Yours to go see the eggs. The little ones might not always come to Yours, but they are full of surprises! Maybe Ykkith would trick Ur'h into getting one, that would be fun!

Despite the girl's moodiness, it looked like this wasn't going to be nearly so difficult as he'd originally thought. It seemed like she was being difficult just to be difficult. Which he supposed was natural enough, even if he hadn't reacted the same way when Fort decided to kill whomever they pleased and take over Benden, expecting people like Ur'h to welcome them as some sort of savior. The brownrider wasn't the type to be insolent just to appease his own pride so that he could tell himself later that he had 'opposed' the invaders. Of course he hadn't. Ur'h had a healthy sense of self-preservation. These Selenitas children were really rather fortunate that it was Ja'kin who led the faction who'd fled to Wasteland - and that most of those who had occupied the southern weyr were the old fighters and not the bloodthirsty little ticks who would take any excuse to kill. An excuse like Farryl's attitude right now.
Ur'h frowned a little. "You can fight with knives. You can fight what with knives? And how accurate are you with a bow? I don't mean to offend, but a southerner saying they can fight with knives..." He shrugged. "Nevermind. I'll just have you show me later. That's probably what we'll do for the next sevenday or so...see what the wing's got to work with." He didn't think he'd have any trouble convincing the southerners whose skills he didn't know to fight him so he could see where they were. Of course they weren't an actual threat. If Ur'h had been easy to kill, he'd already be dead.
That really didn't help him any with figuring out just who Garaeth was, but Ykkith let that topic go, too. The other one was decidedly more interesting. (Ykkith wasn't much of a socializer, in truth, preferring to play his games and observe. He made an occasional exception with greens. What male didn't? But a blue he only had a name for was not of a tremendous amount of interest.) This seems a great way to get Mine one of the flyers, but I thought the goal was to get another for Yours? Mine would hardly know what to do with one. He's really very helpless sometimes, you know.

Farryl's eyes narrowed briefly. She wasn't entirely sure if Ur'h was trying to insult her, Southerner's in general, or just being his odd self. He was certainly a lot different from any Northerner she'd ever met before. Even some of the nice ones who came peacefully like Sel'n. Well, she would admit she probably couldn't match most Northerner's in skill, but hadn't she helped defend her friends from Benden? The memory brought to light all the friends she hadn't been able to save. Then Tille and the nightmare.
Farryl's eyes grew pained again, but she shook away the tears. Cursing her own weakness, she collected her remaining food so she could take it back with her. Slowly she stood up, offering a nod, more out of politeness than anything. "I'll see you there, Wingleader," she agreed. The more she could learn to defend her home the better, no matter who it was from. "Sorry, but I think I should have some proper sleep before then." She turned to go, Hobbs chirping sadly at Ur'h from her shoulder. He was sorry to leave the funny man behind. Maybe they would see him again soon.
I will convince Farryl-mine to go, Peppeth said with determination. Little brother Hobbs will help. He is lonely with out his friends. Farryl used to be happier. I want her to be happy again. Would Ykkith's be happier if he were not lonely? Maybe Ur'h aught to get one as well. She would even help! The little green cocked her head. Mine is coming back, she said sadly. She'd hoped they would talk more. Talking was good, in her opinion. Peppeth nuzzled Ykkith briefly then fluttered back to her ledge. I hope we talk more!
