Clover had no intentions of letting Hero escape. The little green creature hopped up onto the limb and flared her frill for all she was worth, hissing up a storm. Firelizards were the bane of her existence and it was her intention to make Hero regret ever breaking shell! It would be one less bronze firelizard menace. Uttering a low sound that was part hiss and part growl, Clover leaped at Hero with every intention of sinking her claws into him.
Down on the ground below, Aryna watched with almost bored air. She was still scratching Olanreth but not with the diligence of before. No, watching Clover make an idiot of herself was more interesting at this exact moment. She couldn’t help but grin at D’nar’s words, though. “That’s fine, maybe a dunking will cool her down.” No sooner had the words escaped her mouth than a green shape came plummeting down out of the tree with an enraged shriek. Using her small wings, Clover managed to slow her descent to more of a rapid float but still ended up plopping into the middle of the river and making a bigger splash than something her size should. Aryna couldn’t help but snicker; she could feel the creature’s rage emanating from her like a warm breeze. Sure enough, as soon as Clover popped up, she uttered a piercing shriek that actually echoed down the river. Something that small shouldn’t be able to make such loud noises.
“Oh shut up; I’d dump you in the river too if you tried to attack me. Little pest.” The brownrider swept a wave of water toward her pet with a casual flick of her foot, but all she accomplished was rapid, heartfelt scolding. Clover was obviously not in the mood to play right now. She was going to get that bronze! One would think that once had been enough, but never for Clover. The green ‘mandyr scuttled up onto the bank, making small angry noises to herself as she ran right over to the tree and scurried right back up. She was determined to give that bronze what for! Aryna was just wondering idly what Clover would do if Hero had happened to move out of Clover’s reach. No doubt she’d sit in the tree and fuss at him for a while.
Shaking her head, the brown rider looked back over at D’nar and raised an eyebrow. “You really thinking about getting one of those?” She jerked her thumb at the tree, which contained the still-vocalizing green. “I’d think about it more, if I were you; if you’re easily embarrassed, I’d suggest sticking to flitters.” Easily embarrassed was something Aryna was most definitely not, but it seemed that Clover had been trying to embarrass her mindmate every since they’d bonded. She remembered C’lryn, though, if only because his little green had been absolutely hilarious… not that he’d thought so most of the time, but Aryna had loved Bite.
